I'm beginning to discover that there is such a diversity of food at Chatham Square! Anyway, I've been here a couple times now and I've tried the Tri-Pepper Chicken (when so many Yelpers recommend something, you HAVE to try it!) and...something else, I can't quite remember. I have to tell you guys, I LOVE spicy food! In fact, food will usually start to taste bitter first before ever really giving me that burning sensation. The Tri-Pepper Chicken was tasty, but it seemed like there was more breading than chicken. Then there were WAY more peppers than chicken, in the end I was digging through trying to look for more protein! The spice level was okay, I felt the heat, but it wasn't enough to be enjoyable (for me). The fact that I can't even remember what my husband got is kinda sad....but it didn't leave an impression at all. The service, well it's kinda what you'd expect at your average Chinese restaurant. You tell them your order, then you hear them shout it in Chinese to the kitchen *shrug* I can't really complain about that since that's what I'm used to. My food was ready in about 10 minutes and off I went. Overall, this place is all right. Food is tasty but nothing awe-inspiring. Small-ish Chinese restaurant near the corner of Maynard and Chatham St. in Cary. Been there many times and the food is decent for the area. Prices and taste are comparable to Taipei 101 and nearby competition. They have a pretty large selection, including both authentic dishes and more westernized fare. The lunch bento at $6.95 is a good deal, and sometimes the restaurant does fill up during lunch time. read more

Well I'm not an expert as to Sichuan style Chinese food or any subcategory of Chinese food. But I know good food when I taste it and Super Wok has several dishes that are very tasty! I first went there earlier this year and have been back several times since. Anyway, here are a list of my favorites: Fried Spare Ribs with Salt and Pepper, Mongolian Beef, Fried Eggplant Stuffed with Pork and Chive in Garlic Sauce, Dan Dan Noodles, Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil. Now I have only been to this restaurant 4 or 5 times, so I haven't sampled a large part of their menu. But the dishes that I listed are not just good or okay, but excellent. read more

Not the fanciest place, but it's authentic and the flavor is always on point. Food is always fresh and consistent. The lady owner is always friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Alright, fellow yelpers, I admit: Sometimes I get super lazy and want some Chinese delivered to my door. That's when I pull out my takeout menu and call up Super Wok. I also have to admit, it's not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it makes up for it in the fact that they deliver. My routine order: General Tso's, Kung Pow (or Sweet and Sour), Dumplings and about thirty egg rolls. This puts me in a food coma for the rest of the night. I find most Chinese food in the Triangle to be subpar. I'm a big fan of Red Pepper in Raleigh for their authenticity and inclusion of a non-Americanized menu. Tonight we visited Super Wok for the first time and this is where authentic Chinese in the Triangle is at. The twice cooked pork, which I don't think I've found outside of San Francisco, was sublime. The tri pepper chicken was great and the Orange Beef, which took a little more time to cook, was amazing - a perfect light crispness on the outside, juicy on the inside. I got takeout here last week and the food was absolutely delicious!! I'd seen this place pop up on my searches for Asian food in the Cary area before but was very skeptical because it sounded like it was just another Americanized chinese place. But seeing that they had a separate Chinese menu, I got the Tri-Pepper Chicken (since it was highly recommended in the reviews below) and the Dan Dan Noodles. The flavors on these dishes were intense and authentic and I couldn't recommend these more. The chicken was a little hard on the outside so I was afraid they were dry and overcooked but this was not the case - the meat itself was still tender. And the Dan Dan Noodles here is the most authentic I've tasted in America and were very similar to the ones I had at an authentic Sichuan restaurant in China. The spiciness level here was also just right for me - even though the Tri-Pepper Chicken was supposed to be really spicy (2 peppers on the menu) I thought it was only about medium spicy, which is the way I like it anyways. The only downside that the Dan Dan Noodles were definitely on the small side portion wise - I really wish they offered this as an entree. I got the lunch special of the Three Pepper Chicken, which came with an egg roll, salad, and two slices of orange. I'd advice to just skip this "special" next time and get the entree size for a little more meat - this would be far more satisfying. The takeout was super fast - my order was ready in 10 minutes. One almost certain way to warm the cockles of my heart is to serve me tongue-numbingly spicy Chinese food swimming in red chili oil. You can keep your Cantonese, your lo mein, your General Tso's, your moo goo boo hoo. While I would never throw that off the table, if I have the option, I'm going for Szechuan every time. Super Wok joins 35 Restaurant and C&T Wok as viable options for such that are within shouting distance of my apartment. That the best Chinese comes from strip malls is a truth so ancient and universal it may as well be written in the Talmud. The location is small enough, at a strip near the corner of Chatham and Maynard, that I've actually parked in the wrong shopping center twice because I thought I'd missed the restaurant. The interior is pretty basic and is at least a little larger than a postage stamp, lacking for the stereotypical wall of Chinese food pictures that tends to separate the men from the oys. On a representative evening, spent with Lauryn C and Kuanyu the Bottomless Pit after a Yelp event, we shared tri-pepper chicken, mapo tofu and lamb with cumin. Mapo is one of my go-to dishes, the chili-oil drowned dish referred to above. Pile some of that over steamed rice and give me a spoon (this is really not a dish for chopsticks), and I'll melt into a sweaty pile of Szechuan-spiced jelly until it's all gone. The tri-pepper chicken is the type of dish that gets one's salivary juices flowing just from the look of the endless pile of peppers in amongst your chicken pieces. SW's is one of the better renditions you'd find. The lamb with cumin dish isn't one I'd necessarily have thought to order, but it had a great delicate flavor that reminds us that not all Szechuan has to be fireball hot. C&T Wok is ahead in my local rankings, but the current 3.5 star rating is lower than this place deserves. C&T is also twenty minutes from home versus the hop/skip/etc. it takes for me to get to Super Wok from Jones Franklin Rd, which gives this place a definite convenience edge. Join me anytime you want to get your sweat on. read more

Quick update after three more visits. Went a little more hardcore tonight with Lamb in Spicy Szechuan Sauce, and Spicy Pepper Intestines. Some good heat in these dishes, and they certainly produced. But behind the heat was some superb flavouring. A mix of smoky Szechuan goodness on the Intestines (a rare dish for me), with some crispiness too boot. Whilst the lamb was beautifully tender. When you're ready to venture outside of the recommendations from other viewers and want spice, you can do no wrong here. read more

Bento box at a chinese place is a good idea (your #4 or whatever, rice, mini egg roll, salad, fruit). This place was recommended to me by my foodie boss. It has been proven, he has good taste. Super Wok has an American menu and a Chinese menu. We ordered the squid in chili oil, the Mongolian beef with eggplant (extra $1 for the eggplant) and the mango & green peppers with chicken. The food was delicious. The squid in chili oil was a cold appetizer. The squid wasn't over-seasoned and the chili oil just added that needed spicy peppery aroma to it. We ordered carry out, so the squid was immersed in the red chili oil. SECRET: Chili Oil: hot vegetable oil in chili flakes. The mongolian beef with eggplant was well stir-fried. It was well seasoned, the beef was very tender. The mango and green pepper with chicken was from the american menu. It wasn't pieces of sliced chicken like you'd expect. It was two pieces of fried chicken breast, cut in pieces. The mango was under-ripe but worked well with the dish. The sauce was a type of sweet soy sauce, which was delicious. The only thing I wasn't feeling too awesome about, was the fact that it was a little too oily. I think next time I'd ask for less oil. read more

Although the food here is good, and you can't beat the amount of food you get for their lunch special at the price they charge, but am fed up with their poor customer service skills (and I just do take-out!) Although I'm local, I haven't been here often, but each time I've gone I've been amazed at the lack of people skills of whoever they have covering their register/taking to-go orders, etc. The last time I went (which will be the last time I give them my business), the gal covering the register had her young son behind her doing some school work or something, and although clearly saw me standing there, totally ignored me. When she finally decided to take my order, I found out the price for their lunch special is not what is advertised on their menu (it's gone up.) She made some comment about how the price on their menu is old (even though that's the menu they currently have out for customers to use/take) - like that's my fault? If they're not going to bother to update their menu that they offer their customers with the correct price, they should honor the price that's on it. For whatever it's worth, I didn't even bring that up - I was so turned off by her behavior (like I was bothering her from what she was doing with her son), I just commented on how bad her customer service skills were, and tore up the menu on my way out. From what I hear, some of this is a cultural thing, but if you're going to be in a business that involves/revolves around your customer base, you should at least learn how to crack a smile once in awhile (even if you don't mean it, LOL.) read more

I can't tell you how happy I am to have a Chinese delivery place near my house. And a good one at that? Oh Cary, you're the gift that keeps on giving, baby! I love Super Wok's menu. I love that they have an American menu and a Chinese menu. My husband ordered off the Chinese menu, he got lotus root with pork belly. It was really good, the sauce was tasty, the pork was tender, and the lotus root was an interesting new experience for both of us. I'd liken it to water chestnuts. I got chicken pad thai. It was spiiiiiccyyyyyyy! But it was really good and the portion was insane. I ate it for the next two meals. We got pork dumplings in chili oil for the appetizer. O. M.G. I can't tell you how delicious that chili oil is. The menu says it's spicy but it wasn't. It had the greatest savory flavor ever. I could eat stuff with that chili oil all day. It's also insanely cheap. It was $23 for our food. Considering the portions we got, that's not bad at all. This is definitely our new go-to delivery place. Yay! :) read more

I'm not a self-appointed expert, but I've spent several days in Chengdu, China, effectively the capital of Szechuan cuisine, and I eat it frequently in Flushing, Queens where the authentic spots in New York can be found. Super Wok may not quite reach the heights of the very best of the homeland, but I would easily believe it's the best in the Triangle. The fish fillets with soft tofu and the lamb in spicy Szechuan sauce were both well-spiced with plenty of ma la. The Dan Dan noodles weren't bad, though compared to the other two dishes I would say they were the weak link -- the noodles were obviously packaged angel hair rather than toothier hand-pulled, and I'd have liked a bit more kick to them. Still, a minor quibble when you consider that the area isn't exactly teeming with authentic Chinese cuisine, and here, you've found it. I would go back any time I am in the Triangle. read more

I just moved to the area and after reading the reviews of pretty much every chinese restaurant in the triangle, i didn't have great expectations. I went to the Super Wok for lunch, mostly because i craved chinese and this is the closest place to my office and well... i like it. Let me start by saying that this was certainly the best Chinese food I've had since moving to the Triangle last year. That may come across as "faint praise" but the food was genuinely good, as was the service. My only complaint was that, for Szechuan food, it wasn't spicy enough. The waitress asked us numerous times if we liked spicy food, and we answered in the affirmative, but the dishes we got were "medium hot" at best, IMO. I've had Shredded Beef with Peppers in Boston and New York that turned my face numb, but this just made my tongue tingle a little bit. Still, a fine meal overall, and I'll be back. Next time, I guess I'll ask for it "really, REALLY spicy". 8-) read more

We have tried countless Chinese Places since moving to NC a couple of years ago. Quite frankly SuperWok is about as authentic as I have had here and in FLA. The Black Pepper Beef is great, and if you like it spicy (and I mean SPICY) try the Tri-Pepper Chicken. Wow!!! Definitely our favorite Chinese restuarant around the RTP area so far. read more

We order delivery from here about once a month. The food comes quick, hot, and is yum, yum, yummy! I have ordered general Taos, house special low mein, and stir fried rice with pork. It is always great and a huge serving. My favorite entree from here is the dragon and Phoenix. The shrimp is delicious and I love the flavors combinations in this dish. The only thing I haven't been a fan of is there spring rolls. They seem bland yet overloaded with pepper. I love there crab rangoons! They come with a nice sauce and are filled with cream cheese and crab. They don't have hard wonton edges that I have got at many other places. For a delievery Chinese food this is my favorite! I will continue to be a regular and hope to stop by and check out the inside and have a sit down dinner soon. read more

Super Wok is one of my favorite places to go for lunch near my office. My usual dish is the tri-pepper chicken -- very spicy and flavorful! On a cold winter's day, it will warm you up for sure! I am of Chinese decent, and the folks there always greet me in Chinese. I'm not fluent, but I can fake my way through lunch. :) I have tried other dishes -- ho-fun (which is actually called something else on the menu-- maybe Pad Thai on their chinese menu), mongolian beef, pork in garlic sauce, house fried rice -- all very good. Tucked away in a rather downscale strip center on the outskirts of Cary, this nondescript looking eatery has some of the best Chinese food in the Triangle. Don't be put off by the over-bright lighting and red vinyl tablecloths. Every dish we tried here was outstanding. The Fried Eggplant appetizer was light and crispy perfection. the steamed dumplings in chili sauce were likewise feather-light and filled with peppers of the perfect heat-value (a nice little slow-burn that stopped short of clearing the sinuses). Crispy duck was tender and crispy (and plentiful -- as were all of the entrees). Twice cooked pork was freshly made and delicious. Service was very friendly and prices are a real bargain. Good food, so-so service. I went with Yelper recommendations, and I was a little let down. At 9:30pm we visited Super Wok hoping for a change from eating American food all week at Vail, CO. They were supposed to be open till 10:30pm, as posted on Yelp, their website, and their door. Instead, they decided to 'close' at 9:30 instead of let us eat. We ordered to-go anyway. The food loved by my fellow Yelpers were are main picks. Twice cooked pork, eggplant with chili sauce, and pea shoots with garlic sauce (yum). Decent food, but definitely not the best and most authentic, being from the Central Coast/San Francisco Bay Area. I'm not gonna lie, it satiated my appetite. Would I come back? Nah. WE LOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS PLACE! The staff here make it to where you're family. Their smiles are genuine and they are so polite. The food is to die for. The dishes are huge and the prices aren't bad. They have tables and booths along with circle family styled tables. They also offer delivery, which I have done once. The food is fresh fresh fresh! read more

Been eating here since they first opened. The space has been through a couple restaurants, so am glad to see that they've found a good mix that keeps business going. From the time a lady ran a car through the restaurant to now, the food has been consistently good. Very rarely will we get a dish that isn't up to par. The most lacking dish today was the Peking Duck which wasn't as well chopped and the pancakes were dry. All 5 of the other dishes were well made. The best and more authentic way to enjoy this restaurant is family style. Ask the owner, a very nice lady you usually see upfront, for a fresh vegetables dish. They usually just do a quick wok fry with garlic. Our vegetables dish today was crisp, yet not chewy. It had a nice sheen but not oily. Also ask for fresh fish that they can do a quick fry on. We had generous portion of almost two large whole flounders, both with roe. If you are looking for a quick and good value, their lunch boxes are the way to go. I ordered hibachi chicken from their lunch bento. They need to take lessons on what hibachi chicken is from Asian Garden. What I got was basically chicken teriyaki which they claim is their hibachi chicken because it was served over a bed of over-drenched cooked onions. Oh and because it's their lunch menu, they don't put any other vegetables in it. Something they failed to state on their menu.
