We took our son here to cut his hair before his 5th grade graduation. It was last minute (3 days before graduation) and it was Memorial Day. I took my kupuna mom for a wash 'n blow-dry at SCs in Nuuanu, every week for several years. Our regular stylist, Jasmine, is an excellent stylist. . she is fast and always did a beautiful job with mom's gray, thinning hair. ~ About two(?) years ago, SC was bought by another company. It raised the prices across the board. We tried another salon but went back to Nuuanu SC because of Jasmine. ~ The parent company raised prices again about three weeks ago, making this an unreasonable expense for our family. It also changed the online appointments method, adding inconvenience. As a result, we have moved on to another salon. ~ The parent company does not understand or appreciate what a neighborhood gem the Nuuanu SC was before all the changes. This place is good with great staff. Only down side is that there is no receptionist to answer the phones, which means the stylist would need to stop cutting and answer the phone to schedule appointments and answer any question. I'm not making any complaints with any stylist but i do see that frustration they go through when they have to stop mid cut. Sometimes they have to stop 2 to 3 times while attending to one person and when they get back, they have to figure out where they left off. Suggestions to management, maybe hiring a receptionist will help with production and quality in the shop. read more

Stopped by to get a haircut for my boyfriend's son who needed a trim. I signed in and Levi was able to get his haircut in the spot! He didn't want a haircut but his Dad told him his hair was getting too long. He sat in "the chair" with a sad face. However when his stylist was done and we saw him, he looked great! Came in yesterday for a haircut. I wasn't sure what to expect because I had received such terrible service from the one in Hawaii Kai while trying to make an appointment there. Long story short, I'm so glad they didn't want to take me in HK and I got to go to this one!! I have very long, thick hair and I get it cut about twice a year since I'm away in college most of the time (yes, I know I should be cutting my hair more often). My hair is also very damaged because I straighten it everyday. So, I rolled up to this Supercuts and I was greeted and put on a waiting list right away with only one person ahead of me. The Hawaii Kai one said I couldn't be on the waiting list because others were signed up (????) yet no one was in the store waiting except for the 2 people getting their hair cut (also ????). ANYWAY lol Shantelle cut my hair and it is the BEST cut I've ever gotten. She relayered my hair nicely, got rid of my dead ends, AND preserved my length as best as she could. Usually, I don't like cutting my hair unless I have to because the stylists cut it WAY too short. But Shantelle did everything I asked for and she's also super friendly! It was like I was talking to a big sister. She was also super knowledgable about hair care products. Plus, everyone there was super nice I highly recommend going to this place! read more

This is the worst haircut experience I have ever had. I had Britney (girl with black shoulder length hair with dark makeup). I asked for a mid back length haircut with lots of wispy layers and in a V shape. That's not what I got. She cut it to my upper back and flat across and said it was in a U shape. My boys (7 and 10 y/o) and I love Larissa! I was so happy to find her at this location. I first met her at the Kahala location (now closed) when I used to go in for the boys haircuts. She is highly skilled and her work shows it: confident, calm, relaxed and fluid in the way that she cuts. I also appreciate that she actually listens to what you want and not do something completely opposite of what is asked; but is also very transparent if it will take a lot of work on your part to achieve that look. UPDATE: Went back hoping to get the same stylist as before.Was very disappointed to hear she moved on to another salon on base. This haircut was so-so. PREVIOUS REVIEW: Walked in with my son on Tuesday afternoon to get his hair cut. Only 2 stylists were on duty, and we only had to wait about 5 minutes. I didn't get the stylist's name (she was on the left, towards the back), but she gave my son an excellent haircut. Did exactly as requested. My regular stylist was on vacation, but I was dying to do something to my hair. I think the ladies can relate. Sometimes you just want a quick change, so I decided I wanted ombre dyed hair. I made a last minute appointment with Brianne S. She's just the cutest thing! She was sweet and took the time to chat with me and showed me color samples to choose from. I decided to do a subtle ombre and highlights on my bangs. I didn't get a haircut 'cause then it would be full on cheating on my regular stylist. I was just looking for a quick affair. Haha! Any way, my hair turned out amazing! My hair is dark, so she gave me caramel and light brown tones of color from the bottom up. Come back tomorrow". Really? Not sorry, not caring that we drove over for an appointment. She said they had too many walk-ins to do it. She gave me the number for the Kapahulu store which had no interest in helping--I'm speechless. read more

It was kind of nice inside. I expect generic salon from a supercuts but it had some wood accents and things to give it a nice comfortable feel. I get my haircut once or twice a year so I'm never sure how to explain what I want, I just want it shorter so it can grow out again. So I kind of explained I just needed a cut and she did well. You'd think it would be easy to give a generic professional cut, but some places really mess it up. But she gave me a good short generic cut. Didn't say two things to me the whole time, but I'm not a conversationalist so it wasn't a big deal to me. I noticed none of the ladies really talking to their clients almost at all. So if you like to talk to the person cutting your hair you'll have to do the conversation starting. It was cheap, about $18, so I'll be back in six months to a year. All I expect out of a cheap haircut is that it's not messed up and she exceeded that. Its a pretty nice haircut actually. They also found time to get me in quickly even though I was a walkin. I am usually very scared about getting my hair cut as I've had some bad experiences in the past. For years, I was going to another FOB lady who didn't speak a word of English but decided to switch for my own personal reasons. I was afraid but Malia (the manager and stylist) made me feel very comfortable. She asked how much I wanted taken off and the style I wanted.. and I got exactly as I asked, nothing more and nothing less. Just how I like it. I have no complaints. The location has a lot of parking. (It does say it costs to park there but I believe Supercuts customers don't have to). I am looking forward to cutting my hair now, and I am not afraid. I have gone to this location for a while due to its proximity to home and the employees are nice, but I believe I will discontinue service at the Waialae location. I typically ask for 1 on the back and sides, fade to 2 on top leaving a little in the front for styling purposes. But the past three times I have gone, I have had to ask to have them fade more aggressively. In previous visits, they have been amicable, make the adjustments I asked for. However, this last time the stylist I had failed to fade it at all despite me asking three times. This has left me with bands of varying length on the sides. Additionally, they shaved my sideburns without asking first. I have given this location the benefit of the doubt, but I think I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

Since I've lived in Hawaii I've had difficulty finding a good salon to get my somewhat temperamental hair done at, and have had some down right awful experiences for some somewhat pricy places. So I figured that if I'm not going to be satisfied with my results, might as well pay less for it. I visited a Super Cuts years ago on the mainland and was not thrilled with my experience- it was a basic cheap hair cut. However, I have been to this Supercuts off Waialae near First Ave twice now, and I am decently satisfied. This time Tiffany cut my hair. She did a good and thorough job, and was quite friendly as well. I had a time constraint that she adhered to, and she gave some suggestion on product, but wasn't pushy on selling it. She used it on my hair, and I liked it, and may go back and buy it later anyway. All and all I was happy with her. Supercuts in general lacks a little pizzazz, although it's obvious that they are trying to pump that up with their decor and products. It is nice that one can just walk in at anytime to these type of places and most likely get fit in for a cut (I was taken right away). However, it's still Supercuts, no matter how you look at it, but $30 for a cut and style (no shampoo, total time there was 1 hour) isn't too bad I guess in this day and age (could be knocked down about $5 in my opinion). Either way, it's consistent, and I'll be back next time I need a cut. read more

I just got my hair cut here and LOVE the new style. The staff were very friendly and talkative. It was a comfortable environment for a haircut and they listen to what you want in your haircut. The first thing that was said to me "was that there three people in front of me and we close at 8pm. I wasn't even really greeted. I know i was going to get a hair cut in the late evening but that's why I did the app. They should make some changes to that stores profile on the app. If they don't like make appointments that late. I could have done better with my eyes close and with some pruning shears! went to the one in Kaimuki and JJ a old lady cut it they were busy and when they are I guess the hack away at your head! my sideburns are different lengths I wanted the top short and be able to style it its all different lengths! can't style it looks like crap! and its not even textured its just long on top and different lengths. I'm a good looking guy and my hair don't go right with my looks! don't go there all they care about is doing it quick and getting the next person in the seat NOT professional by any means! I stick with three stars for this place. I have never gotten a haircut at Supercuts... just not my thing. However, the husband goes here since it's relatively fast and you don't have to make an appointment. He used to go to the one in Aiea but well, there's no reason to drive that far if they turn over their staff so fast anyway. He never has anything complicated in terms of hair... so it's safe to go to a Supercuts... most of the time anyway. He always asks for a fade and such stuff... idk I'm not a dude so I'm not well versed in dudely haircuts. He's been here three times... two times with me and once without. Sometimes they get kinda crowded here and there's only two girls working so we normally have to wait a bit. The first time he went by himself and apparently some girl tried to trim his eyebrows... so he's got sort of a unibrow (don't tell him I said so...) but he's really proud of his eyebrows and thinks that they're his defining features so I don't bother with trying to trim them or wax them for him. If he likes them, so be it. I love him all the same. Anyway, he wasn't too happy especially when the girl asked to trim his sideburns and went STRAIGHT FOR HIS EYEBROWS... oh my what was she thinking. He was FURIOUS. Next time we went, it was an average experience. Was what he wanted and wasn't too bad of a wait. Last time we went, the girl took FOREVER. The husband wanted her to not talk so she could work faster but it still took her awhile. He took like half an hour which is how long my haircuts take and I'm a girl! Jeez. She was really nice though but I got all antsy waiting for him and she really didn't cut off enough hair for his liking but he was kinda getting annoyed with her taking a year. Other than that, what can you expect? It's Supercuts so it's pretty normal... nothing fancy and be prepared to wait. read more
