Last night was my first time trying Superdawg. The just over 2000 reviews got me excited. Being honest... I just read the one food that will take years off your life is hot dogs. Yet it's been years since I had once and was craving it. If all 2000 plus reviewers think spending $24 on two hot dogs and bottom of the basket fries and a Diet Pepsi is normal or even acceptable it's pretty sad. Loved how you don't pay until after your food is in the bag and ready. Almost as if they know. I will not ever ever ever visit another superdawg. Superdawg, you've been on my list for quite some time... after heading north to Niles for a little bouncy castle time with the tot, this hot dog place was the closest & best rated nearby, so we decided to make a run out of it. First of all, I'm glad we were already in the neighborhood, not sure this place would have been worth a 30 minute drive out of the way. We ordered two superdawgs, the whoopskidawg, whoopercheesie, and two sets of fries + cheese sauce. Everything was mediocre and needed more seasoning, even though we got all the toppings. The side order or fries was very generous and we didn't need two orders for 2 adults and a toddler, plus their lack of flavor made them easy to put down. The food may not be worth all the hype, but the experience is pretty amazing. One of the few places I've seen where you can do curb site eating and they bring the food out to you. The only relic of the 60's that's missing is those roller skates. Plus the staff is accommodating and gave us an extra bun when the toddler screamed that she didn't want everything on it. They still have the drive-in arrangement, but now it is a small window you order at. No indoor seating, but it does look like there was space for it. Instead they have a few picnic tables and benches, or you can enjoy in your car. It was a sunny day so it got hot very quickly sitting outside as very few tables are in the shade. We got our food, I ordered the superdawg, and my wife ordered the super cheesie burger. Superdawg in the time of Covid... When we pulled up, the parking lot was packed! We wanted our food to go, so we didn't stay for the carhop experience. Instead, we went in and placed our order at the takeout window. At the window there was a plexi shield with slats so they could safely hear our order. After ordering, they handed us a tray with a buzzer on it and told us to take it. Of course, before we took the buzzer, we were ensured that it had been fully sanitized. Everything was contactless. They said to go back to our car and they would buzz us to get our food. We waited about 15 minutes, and then we were buzzed and went in to pick up our food. When we walked in, they held up a bucket and told us to drop our buzzer in it so it could be sanitized. For payment, they had a tap-your-card payment system so there was no touching of anything. The receipt was offered, but we politely declined. Back in the parking lot there were people sitting in cars and out of their cars in lawn chairs. Everyone was super chill and socially distanced.
