We love Superior Auto! We took our car to the dealership in Auburn for a safety recall, at which time they did an inspection. They let us know we had some issues, quoted us over $2500 for the repairs, said they would have to order parts and they would need to keep our car about 3 days. We had gone to Superior Auto before moving out of Seattle, and thought they were worth calling even though we assumed they would be fairly expensive due to higher costs of running a business in Seattle. We called and they said they would only need 1 day and quoted us about $1400. For all the repairs. Car is fixed, they did a great job as usual. We will definitely be continuing to make the drive into Seattle to have our car serviced here! read more

First time in but had heard good things. Dropped my car off early AM with request for specific service after having made an appointment the week before. Called early afternoon for a status update, was told they were just doing the "inspection" and I would get a call shortly. This had me concerned because obviously things were off the track. Should have retrieved my car right then and there but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. An hour before their closing time I get a call with a mile long list of things they recommended with a hefty price tag and no they didn't do the work I requested. AND - they charged me an hour labor for the "inspection." On top of all that they parked my car on the street frequented by meth heads and didn't even bother to lock it. Never - again. read more

It takes a lot for me to put my trust in a shop to work on my truck. I had a problem that I'd been pushing off for months and was finally able to nail down a date to get it done. The biggest issue was finding a shop. I didn't want to go to the dealership because they'd charge me way too much for "authentic" parts. And for my 20+ year old truck, aftermarket is fine by me. After some searching and asking around, came across Superior Auto. They're a bit of a drive for me. But what the hell, they're a AAA approved shop, might as well get the most out of that membership. The day I pull in, they are busy. Which I guess is a good problem to have. While the work may take some time to get to, they do what they say they'll do. And I appreciate that. Jay and Scott are so knowledgeable and have the best customer service skills I've encountered in years. I thought those skills were a total lost art, but they're alive and flourishing at Superior Auto Service. I called to find out the cost for replacing the front ball joints-upper and lower in our 2002 Toyota Tacoma Pick-up truck. They quoted the entire job including the alignment and tax without my having to ask. They did the job in a day and a half, just like they said they would and the bill was exactly what they quoted. They were also super friendly and personable.We are so happy with the entire experience that from here on out, we will be using Superior Auto Service for all of our vehicle service needs. read more

I hate to complain or write bad reviews, so I've sorta put off writing this. It's been a year since I went to Superior Auto, and I chose them based on their reviews, but I'm afraid my experience wasn't the same as most others have expressed. The staff was really great, at least until I had problems, and then they were still good sometimes even after that. But the replacement clutch they installed smelled and slipped during city driving from day one. And the process of getting it corrected was extremely frustrating. At first I thought maybe the original replacement clutch just needed to be broken in a bit, so I waited. I ended up waiting a while since I don't do a lot of city driving. The car is mostly used to go hiking or go on road trips to national parks. Eventually though, after realizing the problem wasn't going away, I took it back and asked them to take a look to see if it needed adjustment or if there was some other problem. I ended up going back 3 times before they finally said they'd replace the clutch again. I'm grateful that they did replace it, and I understand it was expensive for them, but it was very frustrating getting them to that point. The worst part was that they were insulting in the process. Their written invoices criticized my vehicle maintenance including making the assumption that I hadn't changed the oil since I'd seen them (which I had thru another shop) and criticized my driving including saying I drove the car like it was a sports car. In their defense, I am a somewhat aggressive driver, but I didn't change my driving habits when I got the replacement clutch. When I pointed that out they did become a bit more understanding and in the end I'm glad to say they did concede and warrantied the clutch. I don't know if the first replacement was defective or if it was just a cheaper sub-standard clutch, which does concern me a bit. I'm not sure if they know either because I insisted on paying more for a better quality clutch the second time. And the reason I insisted on that was because they informed me verbally and in writing that they wouldn't warranty the second replacement clutch for the slipping or smelling. I'm happy to say the second replacement clutch, while still not seeming quite as good as the factory original, is much better than the first one they installed. So the eventual outcome is ok. I just wish it hadn't been such a hassle getting to that point. Of course I know the majority of the expense for a clutch replacement is the labor so I understand their reluctance. In summary, I did eventually get a decent replacement clutch, but I won't be going back to them. And I'd never recommend them to others. That's partly because of the first defective or sub-standard clutch and questions surrounding the quality of their parts, but it's mostly because of the hassle it was to get the situation resolved. They didn't create a positive customer-service experience for me that would encourage me to return for more work. In the process they also lost the chance to do more work for me that would help recoop some of the money they lost. read more

Keith went out of his way to keep me in the loop, sourced a used replacement saving me a few grand, and did a full check on all drivetrain fluids letting me know what needed changing and what could wait. I was anxious about finding an honest shop after some bad experiences elsewhere, and Superior has won my repeat business. read more

SO disappointed! I will be clear, after getting a quote for work on the brakes of my vehicle I got a second opinion and had the work done elsewhere. I was quoted a fair price from Superior for the work they proposed, HOWEVER, the mechanic who actually performed the work informed me that roughly $900 (!!) of Superior's proposed work was completely unnecessary! Superior told me my pads and rotors needed to be replaced (fine, that was what I expected) but that in addition my brake fluid was dirty and needed to be flushed AND my calipers needed to be replaced as well. Also, that my back brakes were low (not yet in need of work), but that there was a fluid leak and they recommended I replace the pads rotors and calipers on the rear as well! (wait, replace parts when I still have pads left?!) All these repairs would have been in excess of $1200... Now, my car is fixed and I spent a total of $350. My mechanic said that my calipers, back brakes, and fluid were completely fine. Bottom line, always double check. I hate feeling like just because I am a woman or might not know much about cars that I cannot trust a professional to be honest. These guys left a bad taste in my mouth and give mechanics a bad name. They showed me exactly what was wrong with my brakes and helped me understand what needed to be fixed. You can tell how dependable these guys are just by looking at the certificate frames as you come in. They're AAA recommended and members of the better business bureau. Like 99.9999% of people with a pulse, I dread getting auto work done. I've owned an Audi, BMW, and now a Lexus SUV. Dealership service prices for these cars are ridiculously expensive. And like everyone here, I'd rather find an independent mechanic that's skilled, fair, honest, and reasonably priced. But every time I tell an independent mechanic I own a luxury brand, I can see the dollar signs in their eyes light up while they start greasing the shaft they're about to shove up my a**. Everyone's had that pit of their stomach feeling when you're about to get ripped off by a mechanic. This was not the case at Superior Auto Service. My RX330 needed full front and rear rotors and brake pads. I researched a few Lexus forums online, and found that $800-$1000 was the going rate at most mechanics around the country. After 27 previous recommendations and high star ratings, I took the advice of my fellow Yelpers and set an appointment with SAS. The good: * Their service manager Charlie is courteous, knowledgeable, and respectful. * Work was quoted over the phone at roughly $800. Ended up paying only $740. People on the Lexus forums were paying up to $1k for the same brake service!!! * No pressure for 'add on' or additional services. They did the work I requested and gave me recommendations for services needed in the future. * After 24 hours, no squeaks, grinding, or noise. Quality work, with warranty included. * Comfortable waiting area. * Their shop is on a bus line to downtown Seattle (bus #28) and to the University District (bus #46). No need to ask friends for a ride to/from the shop. Its also a nice option if your car needs to be at the shop for longer repairs. The bad: * I wish I found Superior Auto Service sooner! Their reputation for quality, fair priced, honest work is well earned. Honesty in an auto mechanic? If Hell has frozen over - I'm getting my snowboard! read more

This place does adequate/good mechanical work, but I have issues with their inspection and servicing salesmanship. I went in for an oil change and a standard inspection. They recommend services preemptively. Substantially preemptively. They recommend I get my transmission fluid changed when the vehicle only has 35K miles. The manual recommends such at 150K and the dealership (Ford) recommends 50-60K. Proposed cost of air filter replacement was exorbitant for the price of the part and the labor involved. Finally, they recommend that I get my wheel bearing repacked. After checking this out, I found that my bearings are sealed and should under no circumstances (per the manufacturers warning) be unsealed, and are instead fully replaced with time. Car maintenance is a proactive venture, but the practices of Superior Auto, in my opinion, cross a line where they seem to be more concerned about pressuring you into services that are really just normal wear. That, and they proposed something that should not be done on my vehicle. In all, I simply went with the oil change and a drive belt replacement (also done early), and didn't opt for anything else. I would not return or recommend them. read more

When my crap-ass '98 Saturn sedan started freaking out (lights flashing angrily at me) today at University Village, I panicked. I'm new here to Seattle, and without a mechanic. My poor husband had to deal with an insane, crying banshee. What's a poor girl to do in a situation such as this? YELP, of course!!! I had read about Superior on Yelp previously when looking up the Dish. So glad I remembered that I saw the listing. I called there in a panic, spoke with Jay and discussed my issue. He said "let me guess, Ford Focus, right?" I told him it was a Saturn and he said that was his next guess. He told me most likely that it was a minor issue but that I should bring it in post haste. So I did. I showed up and even though the lot was full, they dropped everything to diagnose my car's problem. They never once talked down to me (as many a chauvinistic mechanic has) or tried to get me out of their hair. One hour later- my car was checked out- part was ordered and I was told exactly how much this would cost- $107 with tax. PHEW! These guys rocked and turned my shitty panicked day into a happy one! They obviously deserve every five star review they've recieved. And they are SO proud of their Yelp 5 stars. Seriously. They love Yelp. How could anyone not? read more

Top to bottom, this place does it up right. I was having many problems with my car for several months, no one seemed to figure out what exactly was causing these problems, all they knew how to do was keep misdiagnosing problems, forcing me to pay thousands of dollars in unneeded repairs. Well, the guys at Superior figured it out and now my car is back to it's normal self, running like a champ. Their customer service is second to none. Jay, the owner, made it his personal mission to help me get my car running good once again. He spent hours figuring out what exactly needed to be done and gave me a price that was reasonable. The day my car was set to be repaired, Jay was calling into the shop from the hospital, where his wife was in labor with his first born son, to let them know exactly what needed to be done to fix my car. Now, if that's not above and beyond, I don't know what is. A good mechanic is worth it's weight in gold and Superior Auto Service is pure 24 karat, all the way! I HATE taking my car into get serviced. I dread it more than going to the dentist! It's always expensive and usually inconvenient since most places are not open on weekends. So when my car started making a horrible sound when I put it into reverse...needless to say, I got scared! After looking through all the auto service reviews on yelp, I decided to take my car into Superior Auto. A lot of yelpers claimed they were honest and fair with good service. I took it in for an inspection and they not only found the problem I took it in for - but a few other issues. I agreed to get almost everything on the list fixed, since once again - I trusted the yelp reviews and believed that they were an honest business that wouldn't suggest services I did not need. When I got my car back, it was as good as new! Fast forward 2 months later...and it's time for my 60,000 mile service. Eeeeek! Time to go back to the auto shop. I call Superior Auto to make an appt. After I make the dreaded appt and hang up, I get a call back 2 min later - turns out, they checked everything on my car during my last appt and it wouldn't be necessary to bring it back again for the same service. WOW! Thank goodness for honesty! It really made my day! :) They could have easily let me bring my car in and had me pay again for something I just had done, but they didn't. I was very impressed! So impressed that I felt the need to write this review 15 minutes after getting off the phone with them! I would not even consider taking my car anywhere else. I took my car here after Midas told me I needed to spend gobs of cash on my breaks. You only have 5% left on your break pads said the monster behind the counter. I am glad I did not pay them. I took them to Superior Auto and told them I needed my breaks fixed. Not so, said the gentlemen behind the counter you have at least 40% left. At that moment I did not know what to do. I was pissed at Midas and thrilled with Superior Auto for not taking my money when they could have. Holy crap, Yelp was so right. The owner, Jay, took my Friday-just-before-closing phone call, in which I was despondent because Betty had a broken mirror and Civ's "check engine" light had just come on. He asked a few simple questions, told me that my engine would be fine for a few days ("If you were my sister and it came on while you were out of town, I'd tell you it's okay to drive it back") and that they could replace Betty's mirror in the mean time. Now, I hate to say it, but I was skeptical: how *much* would said mirror be? How long would it take to order the part? Once Betty was done, could I swap her out for Civ and have both cars by the end of the week? Answers: a hundred bucks including labor, one day (ONE DAY!!), yes, and hell yes. While they were at it, they welded Civ's exhaust panel, which was rattling like the dickens, and gave us their 15% "new customer" discount, which Jay applied to Civ's bill because it was bigger (even though Betty came first). He also didn't bitch when I didn't want Betty's oil topped off, since we had some at home. With their fast, friendly, down-to-earth business, Superior Auto Service just got two more customers for life. I suggest you take your car (whether she's named or not) next time she needs a little love - Jay and his team will give it to her. read more

I've been coming to Superior Auto for almost a year now, and they have always gone above and beyond when it comes to customer service. Here are a few examples: - One time I asked for an oil change + inspection, not knowing that an official inspection is different from the routine inspection that comes with an oil change. Even though they performed a complete inspection which was more expensive than an oil change, they waived the price difference even though it was my error. - Our car battery died over the weekend and we installed a new battery ourselves. We were concerned that it may be a bit loose. They let me stop by to dispose of the old battery that I hadn't even purchased from them, AND they tightened the fastening on our battery free of charge. I come here regularly for my oil changes, and the price is very reasonable - around $40. They have never tried to upsell me, which I appreciate. Make sure to call ahead of time to make an appointment, as they only have about 20 parking spaces. read more

It's not often that a visit to an auto mechanic reaffirms your faith in humanity, but after a visit to Superior Auto Service I can testify that it can happen. After telling my tale of woe about a Jiffy Lube visit which knocked out my dashboard lights, they promised they'd work my car in and take a look. I dropped my car off and after a few hours they were able to dig around and find that it was two blown fuses which were the problem. They replaced the fuses and declined to bill me anything for it saying that they felt guilty for charging for such a simple thing. Look who just got a new customer. read more

I went to Superior when I heard some squeaking coming from my brakes and decided to have them checked while getting an oil change. Luckily for me the brakes were fine, but they did recommend getting two new tires in the front as mine were apparently ready to shred and I was going to be taking a road trip to Portland in a few days. I am a frugal chick - so when someone says new tires I automatically think BUDGET BUSTER. Luckily for me the guys at Superior really are superior because they estimated the tires I needed would be $90 each including installation, etc. - which wasn't too bad. AND while wasting time at the Fred Meyers while they did the work I got a call saying they had done some research on-line and called a friend in the tire business and found quality tires for me - at less than $70 installed. My experience at Superior was excellent - and I always recommend them to friends. And now to the world through Yelp. read more

This is the only place my business uses for 99% of our fleet services. They are always very up front and honest with me on the phone in regards to cost, time of completion and if they can do the work or not. If they can't do it they can recommend someone who can. I have spoken with Jay, Charlie and Sarah and all three try to do whatever they can to get us in and out as fast as possible. From simple LOF's to full mechanical problems they are there to help. I am concerned with the fact they ARE so great. They will need to expand soon or else customers will have to wait longer and longer for services to be completed. I was traveling through town and found these guys on yelp. The reviews seemed good so I checked them out. Inside the buisness was neat and clean. The people working there were very friendly and genuinely took interest in helping me. What I thought was my wheel bearings turned out to be my rear differential. These guys tried and tried to find the parts but could not. They referred me to another company who was able to work on my car. They had every opportunity to take advantage of me, but instead went out of their way to help. They went above and beyond what was expected of them. I took my car here this week on the reccomendation of my boyfriend. My car needed a timing belt and an oil change. Jay was friendly and professional and quick to get me a quote. that was Friday. Monday morning I dropped my car off and got at call at 3:30 that it was ready! Thats it! They didn't call to lecture me about all the fluids I let get low, or sell me things I didn't need. (Jiffy Lube tried to sell me rear differential fluid - I don't have a rear differential!) The actual cost ended up being right in line with the quote. I would definitley go there again. read more
