I had an amazing business lunch here of about 8 people. They were wonderful to work with ahead of time--putting together a family style meal for my colleagues. When we arrived the table was already set for us, and they even had printed little menus at everyone's place! We loved that the servers were ready to go with the meal as soon as we arrived, bringing our appetizers and giving short descriptions each step of the way (including the proper way to eat soup dumplings!). A few of the standout dishes to us: Eggplant nigvzit--loved how fresh it tasted, and as an eggplant lover it's always great to see eggplant on a menu! Elarji--I mean corn fritters?! Delicious. Sokos khachapuri--this was sort of like an amazing mushroom pizza. By far the biggest hit at the table. It was very memorable. Pelamushi--a very interesting dessert. Honestly kind of tasted like a fancy take on PB&J which is a nostalgic favorite of mine. Definitely recommend generally and if you want to entertain colleagues and clients. O M G! Bread, cheese and eggs, what more could you ask for?! We recently visited Supra for the first time! We went for brunch on a Saturday and there was a ton of availability to make a reservation (only booked it a couple days before)! We had heard great things, so we knew we had to try it for ourselves. We definitely over-ordered and were stuffed by the end of our meal, but I was not complaining! We tried the Eggplant Nigvzit and Soko Ketse to start and the Ajaruli (a MUST) and Morning Iamis Khabizgina for our main entrees. For the appetizers, I liked both, but I will say the Eggplan Nigvzit was definitely the winner for me, the flavors were elevated and delicous! For the mains, I loved both breads, but the classic Ajaruli was just amazing! It's definitely reallllly rich and creamy so a little really goes a long way and fills you up. The restaurant itself was beautiful, traditional decor with a modern twist giving it fun and cool vibes. Our waitress was also very friendly and patient when we needed extra time to decide what we wanted. She was also really helpful when we had questions about the food and drinks. Everything felt very COVID safe (staff was wearing masks, tables were distanced, etc) so I did feel comfortable dining there. Since the moment I saw a pic of a khachapuri, I knew I needed it. I ordered the ajaruli khachapuri for pickup online, and was so excited to try it when I got home. Upon first opening the box, I was disappointed. No egg! Or the egg had dissolved into the cheese. Either way, it was not the picture perfect food I was hoping for, and it was also smaller than expected. But then I tried it...and I would not change a thing. The cheese was flavorful, perfect texture and not rubbery at all, and the bread was that fresh chewy/crispy combo. The size was deceiving as well; I ate half and was too full to go on. I was told to eat it not like a pizza, but instead to rip off pieces of the crust and dip them in the center cheese. A bit reminiscent of fondue that way, but no complaints here. This place is such a surprise. I come from Central Asia and when I see this Georgian restaurant, I was definitely intrigued. They have Georgian wine here. I got a Sangria and it was very good. We ordered a lot of food. Honestly I don't remember the name. But the bread with cheese and egg was incredible. The stewed beef and short ribs were amazing. One disappointment was the potato soup dumplings. There was no soup in it. And they tasted like the polish dumplings. Also they were very filling. The portion was huge! This place specializes in Georgian cuisine (basically Russian food). Super unique and strong flavors that may or may not catch you off guard if it's your first time trying it. It definitely shocked me! No wait to be seated on a Thursday night at 6:30pm. Our server was very kind and informative. Apparently, Georgian has the best wine in the world. If you're a wine connoiseur, this is the place for you! My boyfriend and I ordered an assortment of dishes to share. The cheesy breadboat (Ajaruli) was fun and they offer to mix it tableside for you. The Supra tasting board was interesting. The vegetable spreads and the eggplant nigvzit were delicious! This platter had 3 types of cheeses. The soft and smoked cheeses were fantastic, but the other hard cheese was so strong and salty, we were unable to handle it. Also was not a fan of the bean spread on the platter. I never had Georgian good before so I give this place 5/5 stars for being the best Georgian food I've ever had. I've seen their khachapuri on instagram so many times (you know the cheesy bread that keeps coming up in your feed!) that I had to do. I got the Sokos Khachapuri, which had mushrooms on it. A+++, would and will order again, tastes like fancy pizza. Next, I got the Chicken Lyulya which is chicken kebab and I would also get that again. It had little pomegranate seeds on it which I loved. Lastly, I got the Khinkali Kalakuri, which are dumplings. They were so-so. I think I have been spoiled by shanghai soup dumplings and prefer a more moist dumpling. or maybe less doughy. I also got a bottle of red wine that was so fabulous I cannot remember the name ;) Next time, I will definitely try the amber wine which Georgia is famous for. Never having had Georgian food before, I was stoked to be here but didn't know what to get. So I was like, heck, I'll go with the flow. But then I couldn't haha... I had to seek my ultimate resource - Yelp. Unfortunately, cellular signal in there sucked! I had to go outside. When my husband and I walked in at 7:30pm on a chill Sunday, the hostess said the earliest availability they had is 8pm. I wasn't too happy about that but my husband was cool with it so we decided to wait. While waiting, I sought Yelp for some tips on what to order and photos of what looked good. Fifteen or so minutes later, we were able to be seated. But also shortly after, a huuuge party came in. So when we were greeted by our waiter, we immediately ordered the Ajaruli and Khinkali soup dumplings, per Yelp's suggestions and photos. He suggested a couple other items since we told him it was both of our first times. Good thing we ordered a couple items right away even though we weren't decided on what meals to get yet. It was hard for our server to come back often because he was servicing the big party. When the Ajaruli and Khinkali was brought by a table bus man, he mixed our Ajaruli for us. I honestly would've been satisfied with just that alone for the evening. It was scrumptious! Eventually, our server, with the help of a few other table bus workers, were able to take and deliver our orders, along with a pitcher of water as slower service was expected with the big party nearby. I can see other customers getting mad about something like this and I've read some of the reviews stating lack of service but I certainly didn't feel that. This restaurant is the only specifically Georgian food in the city and it's close to the convention center so naturally, it'd get busy! As always, good food makes a lot of other little things matter less. Our meal consisted of the following: 1. Ajaruli, boat shaped bread with cheese, egg, butter 2. Khinkali beef soup dumplings 3. Eggplant Nigvzit as recommended since the Beets Tkemalit was sold out :( 4. Soko ketse cheese stuffed mushrooms 5. Wild Caught Blue-Catfish 6. Chef's special GF Chocolate Coffee cake 7. Yogurt Murabit, that preserved black walnut tho- yum!! After leaving, I looked up Georgian cuisine and learned that a "supra" is a Georgian cultural feast that consists of a big assortment of dishes, accompanied with wine, led by a tamada, or a toastmaster, who introduces each toast. Sounds like a nice tradition. I'm sure our waiter would've been able to tell us more had he not been so busy with the actual feast happening next to us. While our experience wasn't quite a feast, it was definitely an assortment of fine dishes. Can't wait to see this restaurant make it even further as it's currently the only one that is specifically Georgian among the numerous modern European and middle eastern restaurants. Delicious Georgian food. Supra was busy on the Saturday afternoon when we dined, but we still had a good experience. We ordered the sokos to split and I ordered the Lobito ajaruli ketse for myself. Based on our experience, the style of the restaurant seems to be to serve the food when it's ready and not necessarily serve everyone together, so I waited about 5 minutes after the first food arrived for my food. The sokos was excellent with perfectly baked crust and well proportioned toppings. The Lobito ajaruli ketse was heavenly with scrumptious crust and sauce. I ate every morsel and was completely stuffed. I would highly recommend Supra. read more

Happy Hour was the start of an excellent evening. Tried multiple appetizers and a cheese wrapped in dough. The sausages were also uniquely spiced and flavorful. And discovered new tastes and dishes. Supra is Georgian cuisine, as in Eastern European. While I know that Georgian wines are unique and reasonably priced-but expect some sediment, previous experience left me unclear on what to expect. Sat at the bar, and a gentleman there was very helpful to guide my selections. The bartender also encouraged tastes of new wines. Happy hour has 4 Oz pours of wine so you can create your own Georgian flight. And enough food choices for a few people to have a full meal and try different things. The cheese pastry was excellent. Filo dough wrapped soft yellow cheese. Sausage onion and pepper was terrific with strong mustard on the side. Croquettes were small and tasty. Bar was neighborly and comfortable. Full disclosure: I had never eaten Georgian food before. And after this experience at Supra, I'm excited to try more of it and learn more about it! I was visiting DC with my husband and in-laws, and we're all very interested in trying new cuisines. And we can't get Georgian food in Nashville or Memphis (where we all currently live), so Supra was immediately an exciting prospect for dinner. First of all, we started with the Ajaruli khachapuri, because you have to, right?! Khachapuri is a Georgian bread - shaped like a boat and filled. The ajaruli is a traditional kind of khachapuri, which I most associated with Georgian food. It's filled with cheese, an egg yolk, and a pat of butter. You stir everything up, tear off pieces of the bread, dip, and enjoy. It was amazing. Sensational. Delicious. Honestly. We thought about ordering a second. We also tried the Pkhlovani (a bread stuffed with spinach and cheese). This bread was good, but didn't blow my mind like the khachapuri. Next? Khinkali (soup dumplings). They offer two different kinds each day - on the night we visited they had a mushroom khinkali and a traditional beef and pork khinkali. Soup dumplings are exactly what they sound like - rather dumplings sitting in a broth - the soup is INSIDE the dumpling. They're happy to explain how to eat them the traditional way, but I'll tell you what they told us: crack black pepper on your dumpling, dip your fingers in the water bowl, pick the dumpling up the stem, flip it over, and bit in, and suck the soup out (so it doesn't pour out onto your plate). The mushroom khinkali was good; the beef/pork khinkali was amazing. Amazing. We also got a side of lobio kotanshi (red beans stewed with traditional species and served with pickled red cabbage and cornbread mchadi), which was delicious, and one of their large plates to share: Chkmeruli (whole roasted chicken in a creamy garlic sauce with traditional breads). When they say garlic - they mean garlic!! It was very good. Based on the quality of everything else we ate, we had to try desserts, too: yogurt murabit (yogurt panna cotta with candied cherries and black walnuts) and pelamushi (grape pudding with walnuts and caramel and chocolate sauces). The yogurt marabit was delicious. Light and classic. The pelamushi blew my mind. It somehow tasted like childhood? Maybe because of the grape flavor? I giggled as I ate it. In a good way. We also got a bottle of Georgian wine, after asking our waiter to walk us through the selections. Great wine. Surprise, surprise. Everything about this meal was delicious. When I'm back in DC, I want to eat here again. I want the khachapuri again. I want the beef/pork khinkali again. And I want to try new things! Two thumbs up. Being one of DC's hottest new restaurants, I was surprised by how easy it was to get a last minute, prime time brunch reservation. The restaurant is a gorgeous nod to Georgia with a cozy feel that is absolutely perfect for sharing conversation and good food with friends and family. We went a little bit over board in ordering, but hey -- small plates are the must try item here! The most beloved dish by everybody was of course the ajaruli because how can you go wrong with bread, butter, cheese and egg yolk? It was so creamy and sumptuous that I did not care that I took the last bite at all! #NoBreadLeftBehind We also sampled the eggplant nigzvit, potatoes ojakhuri, beets tkemalit and spreads makho which all had a distinct taste and texture that made every bite taste new and exciting. Also, extra bread is a must. By the time we got to the main course we were absolutely stuffed -- so beware! My friend and I shared the lyula kebab (super dry -- I'd skip it) and the chirbubli which was basically shakshuka. They also have a menu of skin contact wines that I was able to try and they were super light, fruity and delicious! Service was efficient although a bit aloof -- it took a while to greet us and they did not really offer to go through the menu unless prompted which I thought was a missed opportunity to really educate us about the whole Georgian feast experience. Supra is chic and posh, but also achieves a laid-back, casual vibe. Our party of two shared the Ajaruli (melted cheese and poached egg in a bread boat), soup dumplings and the Whole Grilled Fish. The Ajaruli hit the spot after a week of incessant rain. It was cheesy and creamy served in crusty bread. I mean, the dish sells itself. As for the soup dumplings, my search for them continues! I am not sure what the metric for Georgian soup dumplings is, but I like mine with a thin and soft skin and with enough broth to filling ratio that you could slurp the broth. These had a thick skin and very little broth. However, the mushroom filling was quite delicious! It was earthy with a great aroma and kick. I recommend this over the pork one, which was not as memorable. (TIP: apparently, in Georgia, you eat these soup dumplings with your hands rather than chopsticks and spoon) The Whole Grilled Fish was beautiful. It was served with herbs, pomegranate and red onion salad. The branzino was melt-in-mouth tender. I really enjoyed how it was infused with the lemon and herbs. One caveat is to watch out for bones! You would expect that a whole fish would have lots of bones and this was no exception. Just carefully inspect what is on your fork before diving in as I got poked a few times. One star off because the food took FOREVER to come out. It was about 30 minutes for the Ajaruli and soup dumplings to come out and another hour for the fish (then like another 30 minutes for the check). I was catching up with a friend so I didn't mind too much but the pace could definitely be improved upon. Our dinner took three hours with just those three dishes! read more

I tried taking my girlfriend here for her birthday on Sunday and had a terrible experience. She had been there before; I had not. When I made the reservation, only patio reservations were available at prime hours, not the dining room. (Side note: There are reservation options for both "Patio" and "Outside Patio," but there's only the one patio; I asked the staff and they had no idea why there were different options.) When we got there, there was no one on the patio and the dining room was half-empty. The hostess spontaneously offered (unprompted) that she could seat us inside instead, which we said would be great. To our surprise, the hostess took us not to a table in the main dining area, but down a side hallway to the bar area, which is isolated in a separate room around the corner (and out of sight/sound) from the dining room. It was immediately apparent that this is where they were trying hide away the apparent "riff-raff": two families with young screaming children, unkept tourists in ripped attire, etc. (For what it's worth, we are not tourists -- I live literally a block and a half down the street -- and were dressed somewhat casually but not sloppily.) Our server was fine, except oddly he jokingly bragged about not knowing how to pronounce most items on the menu (he told us the Georgian kitchen staff can do it but he has no idea). When going for uncommon cuisine, you'd hope and expect the servers to be super knowledgeable to help guide you through it. The server took our order, and stopped by once to check on us, but otherwise we didn't have much interaction with him. The food was brought out by bussers, who misidentified some of the dishes they brought us, like when they told us one of the dishes was duck when it was eggplant (the duck came a few minutes later). The food was fine, but not great, especially for the high price. We weren't motivated to finish it all and boxed some of it up to take home. Perhaps it would have been better had we not been soured by the rest of the experience. We were in and our in barely an hour, which is not what one expects or hopes for when going to a nice sit-down restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, but given the crummy atmosphere where they seated us we had little interest in hanging around longer. All in all, a really sour experience for someplace that holds itself out as an upscale restaurant. read more

I grew up in Eastern Europe and ate Georgian food almost every weekend, so I do have a fairly decent idea of what it should really taste like. I was a bit skeptical about trying it in the US but Supra was a delightful surprise! Khinkali (giant soup dumplings) were well constructed and juicy, all 3 kinds of khachapuri (cheese breads) were great, especially the one that is boat shaped with an egg on top (Adjarian). All the sauces that were offered tasted exactly how I remember them and brought me back to my favorite childhood memories. Service was great! A few of my close friends raved about this place and insisted I try it, so I took advantage during COVID by ordering delivery. I was intrigued as it is DC's first (and still only, if I'm not mistaken) Georgian restaurant--as in the country. I had the Lobio Kotanshi, a red bean-based stew that was full of flavor. The handful of times I've had Georgian food, I've always found the spices to be powerful and enjoyable, and this was no exception. I also enjoyed the Lyulya Kebab, because lamb is always a good option. While I thought the flatbread was a little hard (probably mostly the result of it having been delivered, which really isn't their fault), the green satsebeli dipping sauce was a great pairing, and I plowed through it quickly. If only there were more sauce! I'm sure this would be a great place to visit in person, and I look forward to doing so once we are back in a post-COVID environment. read more

I do remember the good tasting bread and red wine. They have a good variety of wines from Georgia. Can't go wrong. I started out with elarji, which consist of corn fritters and sulguni cheese. It was good. But I had miscalculated with my ordering. I know I wanted some khachapuri (boat shaped bread with various fillings). I chose the ajaruli, which is sulguni cheese and organic egg on top. Supra is my first experience with Georgian food! I'm glad we randomly walked by it otherwise it wouldn't have been on my radar to even look on Yelp or try. When we walked in at 5pm on a Sunday, I was surprised that they were fully committed for tables for the evening. So, make reservations! However, the bar is first-come-first-serve & it has the full menu so we opted for that. We had the: *PICKLE ASSORTI (Peppers, cucumbers, red cabbage, jonjoli) - nice & tangy! Good starter. *SALAD "TIFLIS" (Salad greens, cucumber, tomato, fresh herbs, house dressing) - between the Pickle Assorti and this, we had SO much red onion ahha but i still enjoyed it. *IMERULI (Traditional stuffed cheese bread) - we opted for the 4 piece ($12) one and it was plenty between the two of us. The best way to describe this is like a cross between a quesadilla and american cheesy bread (a la Pizza Hut, etc.) It's delicious, gooey and a little oily but worth every bite. *BEEF KEBAB (Marinated in Saperavi, with ajika and tkemali) - Eh, skip it. Weakest dish of the night in my opinion because it was a little tough. It also came with a salad so I felt like at this point I was overloaded with red onions & cabbage because we also ordered the Assorti & Tiflis. *BEEF & PORK KHINKALI (Soup Dumplings) - THIS ALONE IS WORTH COMING TO SUPRA!! I wasn't sure what to expect because I know soup dumplings but only the taiwanese kind (smaller, steamed). I was thinking it would maybe be like a momo (tibetan dumpling), but I'm not a fan of momos because the typically skin is too thick and filling is too dry. But, wow Georgian soup dumplings are fantastic. The skin is perfect for the size - not to thick or thin - and the dumpling is filled with soup! We only ordered three and were STUFFED. But, I really wanted more. WHERE HAVE GEORGIAN SOUP DUMPLINGS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! We ended our meal with a PELAMUSHI (Grape pudding, walnuts, caramel, chocolate sauce) - we wanted the most "traditional" Georgian dessert on the menu and this fit the bill! It's unlike anything I've had ever. The grape is quite concentrated and reminded me a bit like a grape jolly rancher, but it went surprisingly well with the caramel & chocolate sauce. I also tried some Georgian wine for good measure - the PHEASANT'S TEARS SAPERAVI (organic red, blackcurrant, black tea, Q )& it wasn't what I expected. I thought sweeter profiles, but the wine was surprisingly dry. Q stands Qvevri, a traditional Georgian vessel used for making, aging and storing wine. After Googling Qvervi, such vessel makes a difference because "[the] wine doesn't get excessively influenced by seeds, skins and stems (chacha in Georgian) while stored is due to the inverse conical shape of the vessel. The seeds sink first, and are then covered by chacha (until it also sinks after fermentation is complete). As a result, we get wine with character and good ageing potential, rich in tannins." I made reservations at Supra about a month in advance (which is what you must do if you want to eat before 9:00pm) for my husband and I after hearing so much hype about the dining experience. The hype, for the most part, is real-this was a delicious dinner that I am still thinking about today. We waited a brief time-maybe 5 minutes-until our table was ready for our 7:45pm reservation. The tables, as in most DC restaurants, are far too close together; it felt like we were eating at a communal table almost. We ordered: *The cheese board-Sulguni, smoked sulguni and guda cheeses, walnuts, roasted ajika, tarragon, cornbread mchadi. This was tasty, especially the smoked sulguni. I was not a fan of the cornbread mchadi, but husband loved it. The portion was a nice amount for 2 people. *QUAIL MAKVALSHI-Grilled quail, savory blackberry sauce. Absolutely fabulous! I loved the sweetness of the blackberry sauce and the quail was perfectly prepared and seasoned. I wish it was larger but it is quail. *SOUP KHARCHO-Bison short rib, rice, spicy tomato broth. This was one of my favorite items we ordered and I will absolutely order this again next visit! The bison was tender, the broth was just spicy enough but still had notes of sweet and tangy. This was very filling for the portion and was seriously hard to share. *AJARULI-Boat-shaped cheese bread, organic egg yolk. This was the other star of the evening! Just so rich and cheesy and buttery! Everything that is bad for you (carbs, butter, and cheese!) all in one-but it's worth it. *Khinkali-We had the 3 beef/pork soup dumplings. As some others have noted there was not much soup in them but still very tasty and not overly doughy. The beef and pork were well-prepared and seasoned. We spent about $70 (pre-tip) and left way overly stuffed! I thought we got a fair amount of food for the price. Service was on point throughout the night and was helpful in making suggestions (although we went in our own direction) too. I loved Supra and will absolutely return soon! read more

I love it when restaurants come to town with a cuisine you don't see a lot of, so I was super excited to have some Georgian food. I was so overwhelmed by the menu because everything looked so good! We ended up getting the cold sampler, which was an excellent choice to try a bunch of the appetizers. Then came the mushroom soup dumplings, which were delicious and surprising. I thought I would bite into it and find this huge pool of soup inside, but it was really just a regular dumpling, not really any soup. But that's fine! Misleading name, but still delicious. Next came the bison soup, which was the table favorite. The flavors were wonderfully sweet, tangy, meaty, herbal, and hearty, all at the same time. I love bison, and I was so happy to see it on the menu and have it come out so delicious. We also got the potatoes, which were fine, but we did order one dish too many, and if we had to pick one, this would've been the one to cut. Don't get me wrong, they were great, but potatoes. And of course we had to get a cheesy bread, which is a meal in itself! It was so heavy, definitely an artery-clogger, but oh so good in small doses. This was one that had to be taken home and savored the next day, too. Because we got there close to closing time, we didn't have time for dessert, nor did we have any room for it. Growing up in Russia living off of the Georgian street food, I've been waiting for Supra to come to DC. Restaurants like Compass Rose incorporate some Georgian food on its menu, but DC needed a dedicated restaurant to Georgian food. Enter Supra. It's in Mt. Vernon Square area among some of DC's top restaurants (The Dabney, Kinship, etc) and in very good company. The moment you walk in, you'll notice the simple Georgian decorations from the plants on the wall to the white fur hats on another. It's a large restaurant and can accommodate many including larger groups. My wife and I walked in at 7PM on a Friday and were seated right away (although reservations are recommended to be safe. It's DC after all). We ordered a feast and it wasn't until after we ordered that every dish we chose was vegetarian (take note, vegetarians). Here's what we ordered: -Lobio Nigvzit: It's red beans, a heavy piece of bread, and a collection of very yummy spices. -Elarji: Cornbread and cheese croquettes with red sauce on top. - Ajaruli: Fresh, warm bread with cheese, butter, and an egg yolk in the middle It melts in your mouth and don't worry about the egg yolk. Mix it real fast when it's hot and it cooks into it. -Mushroom dumplings: They are HUGE and three were enough for my wife and I. Each item was tasty and totally worth it. To wash this divine food down, we ordered two cocktails. Both were great and mixed well. As you dine here, you'll notice many Eastern Europeans here, a good sign it's authentic.
