A true Spring Branch hidden gem! Open for 51 years, their sandwich expertise shows. Just a simple small sandwich shop, but the service felt like true small-town southern hospitality. Ordered an egg sandwich and sliced ham and cheese sandwich- the total for both was under $8 and they were the best sandwiches I have ever had! I'm really glad to support my local businesses. Definitely another Spring Branch gem. You can easily drive right by this location and not even blink. As already mentioned before, it's a definite "grab and go sandwich shop." I agree. I usually gravitate toward the 9" Italian sub but just started trying & liking the Philly Cheesesteak which is always hot and cheesy. Don't get me wrong I love the chicken salad sandwiches and the cheap ham/cheese but my issue is with the customer service especially the young lady that runs the cash register. I think she's the daughter of the owner. She seems to always be grumpy and not very friendly she seems like she hates her job. I have encountered her at this location and mostly at the original location on 18th street. I had an issue one time with a piece of plastic that I found in my chicken salad and even sent a text picture of the piece after I called in. When I went to receive my replacement sandwich 2 weeks later the young lady said I was getting anything. But like I said it's never pleasant when I see her. You don't come here for some spectacular sandwich or fancy meal - you come here for a good ole, homemade sandwich. They're very well priced as well. You can get two combos for roughly $8-$10. The snobby girl at the front however .... If you can get past her rude demeanor and lack of personality; its a great place to grab a quick bite. I'm in utter shock a place like this can stay in business. See pics and you'll likely agree. So I order a turkey sandwhich and they don't have sliced turkey today. Ok so I get another sandwhich. Price was far if not cheap. Bread was hard, lettuce was the cheapest you can possibly get and yes there is a difference. I get my food handed to me and I asked for a plate, well believe it it not that don't even have plates! No crap! No plates. Eat off the table with your sandwhich on a napkin or take it to go :-/ The ambiance is non exist ant and 1960s like absolutely never updated. I tried this place for the first time today. The Mr actually introduced this place to me, as he sorta grew up eating here. I had the egg salad on a French roll with lettuce and tomato. It was fantastic! Quite literally the best sandwich I've had in Houston. There was a difference in quality and freshness (which usually is the case when you eat local). I found this place confusing. You walk in and there is a counter with plenty of sandwiches ready to grab, but then the lady behind it was asking if she could help someone. Um, with what. I didn't even see anything that resembled a menu. I guess to really partake in this place you have to know how it works. This little spot is not far from my home so I occasionally stop by when I want something quick and not too heavy. The sandwiches can be a hit or miss as the bread sometimes be hard and the meat dry depending on the type. Today I got the cheese steak with mushrooms and it was fresh and hot. Guess you have to know what to get. I often get the chicken salad, tuna, hot link sandwich. The ham , turkey, roast beef is least of my fav but the prices is cheap and service it quick. The new-ish guy at the register complicates the process. For YEARS, I walk in and hold up my fingers to the girl at the grill to indicate how many of my usual I'll be having. Then I walk over to the register and tell whoever is there what I'm buying. The new guy (I'm guessing daughter's boyfriend) makes me verbally tell him my order so HE can tell the girl on the grill. It's an extra unnecessary step that complicates the process so that he can feel as though he's helping? In addition to that (and this is a BIG problem for me and the 8 other customers that were there the other day) They close at 3:00 and HE SHUTS DOWN THE GRILL AT 2:45PM!?!?!?!? As a customer, I'm not the least bit concerned with him getting home quickly. How much time could it possibly take to clean the grill after the doors close at 3:00? I've been going here for a VERY long time, and the VAST majority of my visits are within the last 15 minutes. I was there the other day and there were literally 8 customers who wanted Philly cheesesteaks, but were turned away. New guy needs to adjust for those of us who have been coming to this location forever. On the upside, the sour faced daughter no longer seems to be there. She was rude. I think this place is amazing and a friendly staff. Chili is great,cookies are great, sandwiches are fresh and simple. Great place if your on the go. I see comments below of people complaining yes I see the place is a bit old but it has to pass inspection to stay in business and so what if you can't use there restrooms. Go before you come in. People can be so dirty at a public restroom and this is probably why they made that decision to not gave public restrooms. Employees want to remain clean while handling our food. 10 years ago, I was a regular here and would have put up their cheesesteak against any other in Houston, or Philly or that matter. Went back yesterday after more than 8 years living across town. First I asked to use the restroom, which requires a trip through the kitchen, and when I got in there had no lights in either the bathroom and the hall leading to it, so I used my iPhone flashlight. Broken urinal, a smell that would knock you over, and a sink that only dripped water. On to that legendary cheese steak, or should I call it cheese gristle. There were about 6 gristle knobs in the first part of the sandwich, and I ended up throwing away the second half after getting another one with my first bite. The meat was the lowest grade imaginable. Used to love these guys, Im sad for them that it went so far downhill. read more

You'll see the suit-n-tie folks as well as those in trucks with ladders hanging out of the tailgate. Shares a parking lot with a conv store, and parking is a challenge at times. They make a mean hot philly-cheese steak sandwich. They have assorted FRESH ready made sandwiches-- think tuna, chick salad, ham, turkey, roast beef on assorted breads. Fresh made and ready to grab and go, I hate soggy bread and I've never had that problem here! Misc bags of chips and a cooler of drinks for you to pick over. There is limited seating, but most folks are in and out in a jiffy. Also, they make great sandwich trays. read more

This place has slowly gone down after Homer left. I have been eating at the place for over 40 years. After moving a few years ago I have visited this sandwich shop about once a year. My recent visit will be my last visit. The sandwiches are about half the size they use to be, lower quality meat, hardly any mayo on the sandwich and bad bread. Their selection of chips is terrible. The woman who works the cashier has always been rude but now she is VERY rude. Its sad to see a long time neighborhood favorite turn to crap. Might as well close the doors rude woman! read more
