The 2.5 stars, as of 7/5/19, don't do Surf 6 justice. Not sure what the poor ratings are for... This place 100% delivers on exactly what it should be known for: good food, solid drink selection, great live music outside on the deck, and amazing views. We had beers (nice and cold), excellent lobster stew, spicy haddock tacos, and fish & chips. It was all really good. If there was one drawback it would be our server, who was very friendly and competent, was struggling to balance tables inside and outside and the wait for some things took a little longer. That said, as long as you have your drink, some music, and that view a few extra minutes are fine by me. Enjoy! read more

September 28, and Surf 6 has a sign that says it's closed for the season (it is still signaling to Google Maps that it is open, hence long trip to try it out). I visit old orchard beach every summer, and have for the past 19 years. Surf 6 is always a restaurant I frequently visit during my stay. Surf 6 used to be one of my favorite places to visit for food. Unfortunately, I have seen a decline in the food quality the past two years. When I visited tonight I was very displeased with the service and food. It was a very busy night, but that is no excuse to have our lobster cakes thrown at us on the table with no utensils. The plate actually slid with no word from the waitress. Speaking of the lobster cakes, they have changed dramatically from previous years. They are extremely smaller with a higher price! Lobster stew was also ordered, with less meat then previously. I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese for the first time, and it was absolutely delicious, however, the portion size was rather small and disappointing for the price. I think the most disappointing part was that the staff said less than 5 words to us in our visit, and tossed the check on the table when dinner was over. After spending so much money and time at this place for so many years, it's really disheartening. read more

A tourist trap for sure, the "rum" buckets were basically a juice box in a bucket. The beach nachos were frozen fries with jarred salsa and queso, even if there wasn't a hair in them we wouldn't of ate them, they didn't even offer to get us new ones, or take it off the bill. We left and went somewhere else for dinner. The view is nice and the waiter was okay too. read more

My girlfriends and I tried this place on a whim, and it was pretty good. We came for lunch time, and I got an $11 Haddock Basket, my friend got a $14 Lobster Roll. The haddock was crispy and had a nice flavor to it (needs lemon though). Our waiter was friendly and menu knowledgeable. This place is right on the beach. It's perfect for people watching, The Pier is in full view, and the ocean breeze that wafts in is perfect. The decor sticks with the nautical theme, and the front of their bar was from an actual lobster boat (so cool). They had a bunch of flat screens, definitely seems like a fun place to catch a Sox game. I would love to come here at night some time, it seems like it would be a fun hang out spot. read more

Review is for fried clams and beer! We hung out at OOB for a while. Friend bought the fried clams, which were delicious but tourist-priced. We then decided to grab a few beers here - I tried a blueberry one for the sake of trying a blueberry one. Sat outside on the patio area. If you're adverse to the smell of bleach, wait a minute after the girl finishes cleaning the tables. There's also a live band in the weekend afternoon. read more

This is a fun seaside restaurant right on the beach at Old Orchard Beach. We sat on the deck outside. The Cajun fried shrimp appetizer featured baby shrimp in a zesty Cajun seasoning and we gobbled that right up. We ordered the fried clam plate. It was piled high with perfectly fried clams, fries and onion rings. The baked scallops were delicious. The lobster roll was very good. I thought it was a little skimpy with the lobster, but the table next to us ordered the same thing and it looked as though they got a bit more lobster meat. It was served with yummy home made potato chips. You can't beat the location. We will definitely be back. read more

Great views, good local draft beer selections. Servers are mostly younger kids hustling on summer jobs. Ate Wed (8/26) early evening, seated immediately (thanks!)...server came by in a reasonable time, delivered a beer in a reasonable time and took my order. Sea scallops. Here's the problem - the food here, after multiple visits, is a bummer and completely inconsistent. On Wed the dinner portion of 'sea' scallops was $24, I asked to sub out the fries for onion rings - no mention of any additional cost (and didn't see it on the menu). 2 things here - 1a) what they are calling sea scallops are the very smallest sea scallops you can find; I don't think they're bay scallops, but these aren't what any restaurant should deliver as seas. 1b) they were over-cooked and it's evident the oil isn't hot enough to turn out properly cooked fried foods, *during a dinner service*. 2) when I got the check it included $4 for rings - I said - there's an upcharge for rings? (btw - if you ordered a side of fries or a side of rings - guess what - SAME PRICE!). She said yeah, sorry, and took my card, walked away. I'm done with S6, mediocre food, no willingness to think about preserving customer goodwill, there are other places to eat in town. read more

This restaurant I had high hopes for considering it's beach front and central location to the boardwalk however both my partner and I were terribly disappointed. We started with the bang bang shrimp appetizer per the waitresses recommendation and were brought out a few dry fried shrimp on limp lettuce. We asked where the sauce was and she said 'oh those do look dry'. She brought them back and still they had minimal sauce on them. Then we bought the twin lobster dinner and split it (65$!). When I tell you that this lobster, upon cracking, poured out so much water that the dish it was served on was half full I am not joking. The lobster meat was so mushy I didn't need to chew any of it. Truly disgusting. Just the day prior we had had the same dinner at the restaurant Myst next door (was delicious). When it was noticed by staff we were looking dissatisfied with our clump of lobster that looked like wet paper they delivered us another one... it was exactly the same. It was very obvious that they had been boiled, not steamed, and left long enough for the meat to turn into mush. I even heard the table behind us complaining about their food. I would have listen to the reviews but my boyfriend insisted three years ago when he last went it was awesome ;) steer clear especially when there are SO many other options read more

Had dinner here last night with my family. We have been here before a few years ago while vacationing in Old Orchard Beach. This is a typical family friendly beach town restaurant that you would find in this town. It's clean and nice inside with arcade games for the kids to play. There is a full bar that serves a variety of beer and a decent wine list. They also have signature cocktails. It was nice to sit by a window and watch the ocean waves while having dinner. Outdoor seating is available on the deck. As for food my wife and kid had chicken tenders and fries as they typically do. They are not really foodies lol. I tried the lobster mac and cheese. My food tasted good. The only complaint is that for what I paid, I was hoping for a larger portion with a little more lobster meat. The service was good. Our waitress was very nice and the manager walked around to talk to customers and check in on them. Good place to visit in Old Orchard Beach. read more

Simply the worst. I ordered a mojito without the simple syrup (bc sweet drinks upset my stomach) and the bartender made it with sprite instead. I ordered the lobster stew (excited!), and it was lukewarm milk with a hunk of lobster (the server had never tasted it and had nothing to compare to). My partner ordered to lobster linguine: utterly flavorless (server had also never tasted...). Like not even salt. I'm reminded of that episode of Worst Cooks in America, where a contestant says "Chef Anne loves salt!!" And she retorts, "No, I love food that tastes good." #saltyourfood In fairness, the fish tacos are good--my friends shared them with me since my stew was so disappointing, and I was happy to eat them. My family and I have visited Surf 6 for about 5 years now. It has become a family tradition to go for dinner after a long beach day. We always loved the live music, beach view, and decent food. This year however, we experienced a drastic fall in food quality. We have 6 total family members. Two got the tacos, one had the lobster tacos and the other had the other tacos available and they were the most decent on the table but still very overpriced. One family member ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese and got a less than kid sized portion meal. It consisted of 3 pieces of lobster and around 15 noodles. This was the most overpriced item we had, $27 dollars for a few pieces of lobster. I had baked haddock and although the mashed potatoes were fairly good, my asparagus was undercooked and my fish appeared to be warmed up in the oven or microwave, with oyster crackers as the "bread crumbs" We also have two young kids in the family and they ordered noodles and a grilled cheese, both extremely overpriced. There was also no live music while we were there, something we always look forward to having. My step mom left a note at the end of the meal saying how disappointed we were with our meal, but i felt like the management would not care so i took to yelp. The other reviews are very telling of this place. Overall this place has declined in quality of food and increased their prices dramatically. This used to be a tradition for our family but we will have to find a new place to go next year. read more

this place is so bad don't go, we waited 30 mins which is typical because it's 4th of july weekend, once we get inside we wait 20 mins at our table. No one says anything to us until i have to basically flag down someone, our waitress was so rude, barely even talked to us. The food is so mid. Surf 6 was OK, but I was not a tremendous fan. Went there once for dinner and got a table on the outdoor patio, which was nice enough. I ordered a large lobster which was unusually tough, both inside and out. They were super-busy and as a result service became atrocious, it took forever for us to get our check, and then to pay it. We went again for lunch another day, and had a slightly better experience. That time we stuck mostly to the fried clam & fish dishes, which were good but we could have done just as well, at lower prices, at one of the carry-out places by the Pier. One of our group was sick of seafood and ordered a burger instead, that ended up being the biggest surprise of our meal, and probably the best dish that I tried there. Surf 6 seemed like a fairly family-friendly place during daylight hours, but they do have bouncers at the door so I think the place changes character quite a bit after nightfall. read more

The best part of my meal was the pickle. Save your money and go somewhere else. Tourist trap. Ordered the drink special mojito, it was pure sugar and watered down vodka. Yummo. For lunch, I ordered the spring salad mix and asked for red onion, tomatoes, and carrots to be put on top, just like the garden salad they offer. I was told absolutely no substitutions allowed. Do not go here if you have special dietary needs. Instead I chose the haddock sandwich, and asked for lettuce, tomato, and red onion. Completely reasonable request for a sandwich. Instead they brought out a fried hockey puck of very fishy tasting "haddock", and the saddest piece of lettuce I have ever laid eyes on. No tomato or red onion allowed. Between the Mr. Toad's Wild ride economy and the goram condo developers you never know which spots will be open, renamed or shuttered from one summer to the next. Alas, a few years back we lost our lobster roll spot at OOB and had to choose a new venue. The Surf 6 has both indoor and outdoor seating, depending on how much sun you can handle. We usually sit outside to hear the band and watch the tide, I find the most shaded spot since I have a complexion nearly paler than milk. The lobster roll here torpedoes the one at the Pier. Unlike that hunk of junk that looks like the meat was minced, at Surf 6 the butter grilled roll is chock full of whole lobster pieces with just enough seasoning and mayo to hold it together. I liked the fried scallop plate better than the clam strips but overall the fried items were crisp and fresh. We roll with a party of eight or more and the staff handles us well. The Corona bottles don't stay empty for long and nary a recession lime to be seen. read more

You can have haddock any where or you can have the best damn Haddock you've ever had in your entire life. My girlfriend and I took the baby up to some warm beach weather and wanted to get away. We came hungry and knew that OOB had little to no good food to offer... or does it? Listen, I don't know if this place is open year round, however... If i could drive there every day, I would. My father who is an average cook makes the meanest Haddock ever and this place topped it. This seafood/dive bar was better than I expected. The drinks we had ordered were great. Take down all the ridiculous advertising you have up for your vendors or make sure they're giving you free beer all year long, it looks tacky. Solid destination for reliably good food, great atmosphere, great view and excellent staff/service. Of the numerous restaurants near the pier, this is our favorite. Reasonably priced selection - from lobster rolls to burgers, we have never been disappointed. We like their lobster rolls better than the nearby Myst restaurant, which uses a large hoagie roll - making it too bready. Surf 6 uses a New England hotdog roll, which let's u enjoy the lobster more IMO. Great outdoor seating, right on the beach. read more

You are in the lobster capital of the world come at the roll properly toasted, give fries and slaw and charge an extra buck or two because this is America. Decent simple menu that would benefit from a fried combo speciality. My kids thought the pasta dish was bland ( yeah why are they ordering pasta) if these knuckleheads think it s bland it's bland. We went there for lunch; it features casual dining with a view of the ocean, and a limited but good menu. The clam chowder was very thick and delicious, possibly one of the best clam chowders I have eaten at any restaurant! The haddock sandwich was okay; the haddock filet was great but the bun they serve it with is a fast food-style bun. Also they serve it with ken's tartar sauce (in a single serving size packet) not tartar sauce made in house so I was not impressed - compared to the delectable clam chowder it was a let-down. I also tried the fried calimari - it was good but the marinara sauce they serve it with needs to be a lot thicker and a lot more spicy. Staff was friendly. They had the best food out of all the places we tried in the area. I'm tempted to rate it higher based on the staff and the clam chowder; the chowder is good enough to make you disregard the rest. If I ever go back to Old Orchard Beach, I'll definitely stop here for clam chowder! I have since been back, for their clam chowder and it was every bit as good as the first time! read more

I understand staffing is hard this year however when you wait for a half hour for a table and then they sit you and you wait for another half hour at a table watching everyone around you get service and no one has come over to even say hi....that's unacceptable. Went there for drinks at 4:30pm on a perfect beach day. Saw down; it was moderately busy. Waited 15 minutes. As it was clear no server was coming I went to the bar (alone) to order two drinks for my wife and I. Bartender rudely asked where the other person I was with was because I couldn't order two drinks. What?? Explained to her weren't being served outside; was told I had to order at my table; no apology, no nothing. Drinks were expensive and Pina Colada was not that good. We had been to Surf 6 in past years and we were happy with the atmosphere,service,and food. This year's visit was very disappointing. Although the bar is beautiful, and the outdoor seating is great, the food was horrible. We ordered a Caesar salad for $13. The salad came with NO croutons or cheese. When we asked the waitress about it, she said they were out. Nothing was said prior to our order being placed. We paid $13. For a plate of lettuce. We ordered two buffalo chicken plates. Both were undercooked. Both looked like Tyson frozen bag chicken. They threw sauce on them and served cold. Microwaved, and not long enough to heat through. The bang bang shrimp was not fresh. The onion rings were also undercooked and had an underlining taste of seafood, which pretty much told us they are using the same fryer or oil. All in all we walked away totally disappointed and hungry. I would not recommend this to anyone again. Sad, because we had raved about the place to the couple we were dining with. read more

I was nervous when I read the reviews for this place but the food that I ordered was delicious. The pulled pork sandwich tasted so good and the bun was toasted just right. Having the coleslaw on top of it made it all the better. Live music while sitting on the patio was also a huge plus. I just wish the prices weren't so high, to add on onion rings it would've cost $6! And fries were $3 up charge... luckily the potato chips that the meal came with were very very good. Nice place to go after a fun beach day. read more

Our family has been coming to Surf 6 for a number of years. It has kind of become a tradition after being in the beach for the day. We have Always loved the convenience of being able to leave our stuff on the beach within our view. The food was always decent with good portion sizes. We came again this year - earlier this week. The service was mediocre, portions were much smaller and a lot more EXPENSIVE! Lobster Mac n Cheese for $27 with literally 2 small pieces of lobster. My 13 year old daughter lest hungry as we all did. I had the blackened tacos- they were not as good as last year. My wife had lobster tacos- again not much lobster in them. Needless to say this family will be finding. I won't bore you with further details of the other meals because you guessed it- same old song and dance.
