The positives: the bagel shop is beautiful, the cashier was very friendly, and the iced coffee was delicious. The cons: the bagel was not very good nor was the cream cheese, and whoever made my bagel and cream cheese, did a terrible job putting the cream cheese on the bagel. One side had more cream cheese and then as you got to the other side of the bagel, there was no cream cheese. It seemed like whoever made my bagel was in such a rush took zero care in making it. Listen, I consider myself somewhat of an expert on bagels. Having had all kinds of bagels and being of Jewish decent where bagels are integrated in our lives, I know a good bagel when one is given to me. Surf bagel is not that. I would say their bagels are far better than Einstein, but not anything to run back for. They were too dense and didn't have the right chew. Beyond the bagel itself, the toppings were inconsistent and sad. I got cream cheese, avocado, spinach, and tomato on mine. The cream cheese was a cheap amount and not spread (just an off centered blob), and the avocado was literally 1/4 of an avocado just thrown on there. It wasn't sliced or mashed, literally just a hunk of avocado. I think it was probably the most carelessly made bagel I have ever encountered. Needless to say I don't think I'll be going back to the bagels. However, the redeeming qualities of surf. I got an iced coffee. It was unlimited refills. It was just standard iced coffee, but it was really good. Most iced coffees are acidic and not to my taste, but I kept going back for refills! I would go back for the coffee. I also saw many people have smoothies. It was probably every other table. I'm assuming if that many people got a smoothie it must have been good. Overall, if you're going for a bagel, there are better places in the beach area. If you are going for other menu items, it is a good place to relax with nice beach vibes. read more

Cute little bagel spot that had amazing service, they were extremely patient with all of my modifications, but also just efficient. I had an extremely fresh tasting bagel sandwich. Could've used a bit more egg, but the bacon was plentiful and the everything bagel was perfectly seasoned. We ordered from this place from DoorDash and I can say... tasty, fresh, amazing! My husband enjoyed their lox bagel and I ate the egg-meat bagel, my kid could not stop, she almost never will eat a full bagel and she did "mommy this one is my favorite", definitely next time we will make a visit in person. They have the best bagels in Southern Delaware so far! The only place that makes a salt bagel. This location is newly opened. I have been to one other location. Love the comfortable interior dining room! Service was quick at lunchtime. I was lucky enough to get the very last salt bagel of the day and enjoyed that with some plain cream cheese. Ugh - this was such a disappointment. For my last day in Ocean City, I wanted to pick up some bagels to take home. I had my eye on a shop, but when I got there, they weren't open - despite the fact that Yelp and other places online said they were. So I did a quick Yelp search and this place was nearby. I didn't realize I was actually going to Delaware, but well, when in Rome! This place had good reviews and the parking lot was hopping, so I figured I was in for a treat. I ordered the sundried tomato bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. And I'm glad I waited to taste-test before ordering the dozen I'd intended to order. This bagel was pretty terrible. It tasted stale like it was three days old. It took over 15 minutes to get it - with a simple toast and cream cheese, and even then, it wasn't toasted! The place is cute, they advertise hot bagels and have a drawing of a toaster on their wall but their actual bagels come cold? Who wants to eat a cold bagel with cream cheese? Hands down one of the best bagel shops I've ever been to. Great bagels! I'm not sure what makes a bagel a NY Style bagel. Seems like that's the only style people ever advertise. So I tend to consider all bagels as part of the same category. Within that category of all bagels, Surf Bagel is right at the top. They have a broad selection of bagels which you can have any way you choose, including my favorite sausage egg and cheese. The people are so very friendly and the place is bright and cheerful with outdoor seating as well as plenty of space indoors. I think parking could be tight in busy times but it was busy when I was there and I got a space immediately. They also have wraps and smoothies on the menu. My everything bagel was soft and chewy and delicious. The sausage and egg part were made to order. It was just tremendous! I'll go here every morning when I'm in town! Sorry no pictures! read more

Operates with the efficiency and courtesy of a NYC DMV office. Lots of folks behind the counter but apparently only a couple seem to be doing any work. While the bagels are far superior to any other bagels in the area the customer service is lacking. It should take no more than 3 minutes to receive a buttered bagel when a bagel store is empty and there are several employees lingering about. Also, when did it become good business sense to not thank a consumer for their purchase. If this is the level of customer service one receives in mid March one can only imagine when the area is overwhelmed with more people in the summer months. read more

This place is awesome for breakfast AND lunch!! Surf bagel is new, modern and bright with a fun beach vibe! It's way better than your typical bagel joint. They even have a cute patio outside and adirondack chairs. The bagels are fresh and delicious and they offer a variety of homemade cream cheeses and hot breakfast sandwiches. (The Old Bay bagel is amazing!!) In addition to breakfast, they also offer freshly made to order salads and sandwiches/subs on various types of bread, which I really appreciate. Food is top notch. Coffee is great. Things were a bit crowded and backed up the two weekend mornings I was there. First time I was a walk in. Order taken. A bit of a wait. Order came out correct and hot. I was on my way. Second time I placed my order on line before driving down. (About 5 mins away) Since I had never done this before. Waited 5 minutes and then inquired how one picks up their order. Nice gal looked up my order and then told me they did not have it. She asked some more information in attempt to locate my order. (About 15 minutes after I originally placed it) then OH! Here it is she exclaimed. It JUST came in. Apparently I move faster than the internet. She printed out my order and placed it in the large stack to be filled by the kitchen. After another 10-15 minutes, my name was called. Order ready. Filled correctly. Bottom line. Loved the place. Pack your patience and order before you get really hungry. Surf Bagel just opened and we were eager to try them. Friendly, quick service on a Sunday morning. I like the vibe: different seating options (benches and tables), all sorts of creamers, milk, etc. for coffee. (Quite a few coffee choices too.) There's seating outside for when it warms up. The bagels were very good - we had a couple breakfast sandwiches to eat there, and bought a half dozen assorted bagels to eat at home. We all had Everything bagels. The scallion cream cheese was good, although I had to scrape off half of what was on my bagel. Very generous schmear but way too much IMO (see photo). My family enjoyed their breakfast sandwiches; personally I was disappointed in the breakfast choices. It's your run-of-the-mill egg-meat-cheese menu. I much prefer the creativity of the sandwiches at Uber Bagel. This morning I had a jalapeño bagel - the pepper was so subtle I almost thought I was eating a plain bagel.
