These are seriously good bagels. I got the SLT - house made salmon bacon, tomato, lettuce, avocado . . . on toasted wheat berry bread. I know . . . no bagel? Not on the sandwich. It was hard to eat. The avocado slipped around, the "bacon" fell out, but it was really really tasty. The bacon was a little fishy and salty compared to lox, but it was good. I would definitely order it again. I wasn't impressed with the bread, it didn't have many wheat berries so it was missing the crunch. We got there closer to lunch than breakfast and some of the bagel flavors were sold out. I did get a half dozen including Old Bay, everything, and blueberry. All of the bagels were good. That perfect combination of soft and chewy. Coffee was good. Service was excellent. Prices are steep, but typical of the beach scene. read more

When I was looking for places to eat for our vacation, I happened to see the selection at surf bagel and had to try it. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a French toast bagel and it was TO DIE FOR. I'm traveling with a big group, so we ordered 10 bagels online and they had them all done in just 20 minutes. They have their own door for pickup, so I was in and out in about a minute. Definitely check it out if you're in the area. These were really good but they aren't a New York bagel. They could use a little more salt and a crisper exterior but are far superior to anything else I have gotten so far in Delaware. Today we did a plain bagel with sausage, egg, cheese and avacado with scallion cream cheese. The total was $8.10. Everything was tasty but the cream cheese was really melty. It still had good flavor but it caused the other ingredients to try and slip out. This was a minor issue as everything was tasty. We will absolutely be back to try more. Came here before heading to Cape Henlopen with some friends ! I've read so many good reviews about this place that I had to check it out for myself :) I got a bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. The bagel itself was fluffy and very good. You can tell that they are super fresh. My sandwich overall was amazing. Fair warning, these are NOT New York bagels. But despite that, they taste pretty good! The bagels are small, but they have an overall chewy texture that makes the bagels taste fresh and very easy to eat. Not bad. They also make their bagels on site, bonus points for that! The service is also pretty good and the employees are nice. If you order a lunch item you get their homemade chips which for the most part also taste pretty good. I definitely feel this is how you can make a bagel without having to feel you have to go all New York on it. read more

Great bagel price! The bagels are fluffy and tasted great. I got the breakfast jalapeño bagel with bacon, cheese and egg with a side of homefries. When I opened the wrapper, it was oozing out with cheese. Delicious bagels! There are so many flavors - garlic , spinach, jalapeño, even chocolate chip. I tried the Malibu Bunny breakfast sandwich on a garlic bagel and was not disappointed. The bagel was so soft but slightly chewy and it has a great flavor. I substituted lox spread for veggie cream cheese and it was really good. The only downside is that the sandwich was really thick so you have to be careful when eating and I also didn't like the combination of cream cheese and avocado. NJ/NY people have a rep for being snobby about our bagels. So when my friend was bragging about Surf Bagel, I was skeptical. "Delaware" and "great bagels" never seemed to fit into the same sentence. I took my first bite into an old bay bagel smothered in lox cream cheese and was immediately converted! The bagel was huge, soft, and doughy. You know when you can taste the homemade? Yeah, that's what this bagel tastes like. The old bay seasoning on the bagel complemented the fishy taste of the lox spread. (While you can also just order lox with regular cream cheese, I recommend trying the spread, which has actual bites of lox in the pretty, pink mixture.) After my first bite, I knew I would have to take some of these home with me. They have a wide assortment of flavors, from your standard plain, egg, whole wheat... to some more adventurous bagels, including spinach, old bay, and (my family's personal favorite) the "beggy" - an egg bagel with bacon bits in it! If you're not feeling the classic BEC, they offer a variety of cream cheese spreads, such as sundried tomato and raisin-apple cinnamon (and the lox, my personal favorite). They even sell their own, house-roasted coffee! By the name of Swell Joe's, their roastery is located just a few doors down from the bagel shop. I have been eating here for years. It is a slower lower Delaware tradition. The bagels are fresh, breakfast sandwiches are great, many coffee selections and they they often have fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juice. It can get busy, but the counter service line goes very fast. I recommend an Old Bay Bagel breakfast sandwich with two eggs and scrapple. Mmmmm! Good! read more

I'm that person - came to place called Surf Bagel for breakfast and neither wanted breakfast food nor a bagel. I asked if I could order off the lunch menu and was kindly told that I could order any of the cold items, so I ordered a Tuna Kahuna, which is their homemade albacore tuna salad, 3 cheese melt, with pineapple. I got it on multigrain bread. It was soooo good. I honestly considered ordering a second sandwich. Because it was a lunch menu item, the sandwich also came with homemade potato chips and a pickle. My boyfriend also ordered a breakfast sandwich, which took a while to cook. One of the guys at the counter noticed he had been waiting a while, and made sure to follow up on his order, which came out immediately afterwards.
