Nice cute cafe that is open for breakfast and brunch. We had our dog and were seated in the side alley which was covered. That was nice as it was very windy outside. Coffee is good. Crab omelet was nice. I liked my Lox sandwich was well only wished it had more capers.. French toast was delicious and generous portion. The home fried felt under cooked and not to our liking. So full disclosure, I'm not really a "breakfast guy." My mornings usually consist of 2-3 cups of coffee. Only exception is when I'm back home in NYC, I'll have a local BEC (Bacon/Egg/Cheese) on a kaiser roll or an everything bagel + cream cheese since you know...bagels in the DMV are MID. So, it's some surprising that I rate Eggcellent a solid 4, as I rarely visit restaurants for breakfast. Located in Downtown Lewes, DE, I agree with some of the other reviewers who describe this joint as an "elevated diner." The interior dining room is teeny tiny; like shoe box size. Best bet for a table is the enclosed outdoor patio, which is where we sat. There were three of us, and in addition to our entrees, two of us ordered mimosas, while I had black coffee. I tried a sip of the mimosa. It was fine...a bit too sweet as the Orange Juice tasted like concentrate and not fresh...but fine just the same. Entrees arrived within 10 minutes of placing orders. My meat lovers omelette was good. A heaping portion of ham and sausage were folded into the fluffy egg mixture. The home fries could've been more crispy and were a tad underseasoned. The hot sauce and table S&P provided additional flavor. Classic dish of eggs, home fries, and sausage patties was quite satisfying. The sausage was the size of a hockey puck and tasted really good, especially with the slight char from the flattop grill. The bagel with cream cheese and lox was probably the best thing at the table. A toasted bagel was topped with generous amounts of smoke salmon, capers, and slivers of shaved red onion. I tried a piece, and realized I should've ordered this. Service was as expected. Staff would routinely stop by to check on us, and kept water glasses filled, as welll as my essential cup of morning java. We had an enjoyable experience, albeit felt a bit rushed towards the end of the meal. But I understand, since there was a constant wait for tables, and as a business, there is the need to turnover customers to make way for new seatings. For three adults, entrees with beverages, tax and tip was a bit over $75. read more

This is a cute spot for brunch in downtown Lewes. My wife, two sons, and I ate in the enclosed outdoor patio as the main restaurant was crowded. My wife enjoyed an omelette with home fries. One of my sons had a salad with chicken. My younger son and I had the artisanal sandwich (chicken with avocado and brioche). To be honest, it was kind of meh. Bottom Line: Quaint spot for pairs or small parties to have breakfast or lunch. My husband and I had a Sunday morning breakfast at Eggcellent on Market Street. We enjoyed the quaint atmosphere, whimsical artwork, attentive service and variety of breakfast options. My husband enjoyed a huge omelette full of veggies and I branched out form my normal high-protein breakfast for French Toast. The French Toast had whipped creamer, fresh berries, granola and cinnamon on it so it was surely a decadent treat. We washed all of that deliciousness down with black coffee. We visited Eggcellent on a Sunday morning in March about 8am and I was surprised that it wasn't very busy. I suspect the crowds come later. Hopefully those crowds come in parties of two or four because Eggcellent is rather small and probably only seats about 45 people between a few tables on the front porch, a back patio (I think) and the tables inside. In other words, I wouldn't bring my rowdy friends here for breakfast but I certainly enjoyed Eggcellent for a peaceful and delicious start to the day and I'd be happy to return. read more

Came here for brunch on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant busy with patrons. There were several specials on the menu that were seasonal and available for purchase. Since it was fall I ordered the pumpkin pancakes. The cakes were light and fluffy with a subtle pumpkin flavor. I could have gone for a bit more spice, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. We also ordered a BLT which came out with crispy bacon and a generous serving of avocado. The service was quick and friendly and we enjoyed sitting outside because the weather was mild for November. If you order Eggs Benedict, be advised that it will come with tomato slices, which is not traditional, and slices of broiled ham, which is, but not enough Hollandaise. We did not have the 4.5 star experience this place rates on Yelp. We were promptly seated in the outdoor seating area with our party of 6 and ordered water, OJ, and coffee. Service was fine, waitress was attentive, and the food and drinks came out promptly. The pancakes looked good, and the breakfast burrito was reportedly tasty. But the omelettes were dry, the toast warmed bread, and the poached eggs were pretty much hard boiled. We have several favorite restaurants in lovely Lewes Delaware, but on this day decided to try someplace new for a light meal. It was around 12:30 PM on a spectacular June day when we decided to try out Eggcellent. Being a gorgeous day, we chose to eat at one of the two tables for 2 butressing the main entrance. We were promptly waited upon and served expeditiously. I had the avocado toast with eggs which was delicious. There were about a half dozen cute little sparrows peering down from the underside of the veranda. We had to wait a bit to receive our check, but being in beachvibe mode on a perfect day, we weren't in a rush. The food was quite tasty, and the portions more than adequate. I can't comment on the indoor ambience as we mad a decision to eat outdoors. There is what appears to be an enclosed porch where diners can enjoy their meal on the right side of the restaurant. We'll definitely return. (As an aside, and nothing to do with Eggcellent, parking meters ARE closely monitored and strictly enforced. We saw a meter "maid" with no sense of humor, knocking on a passenger's side window to tell an idling driver to " feed the meter if you're going to park here, or face a $40 ticket." Upon the recommendation of a fellow yelper, we came here for lunch. We opted to sit outside, which was in a covered tent with fans, which was appreciated with the heat and it helped to keep flies away. Everything came out so quickly! Our onion rings came out first, and they were perfect. I really liked how even thought you bit into it, the onion wouldn't all come out in a line, if you know what I mean. Really really really sad about this.. When I came here by myself it was truly cool.. it was a great experience, flavorful pancakes and pretty on point service! Our server, may be the owner or GM.. I don't know but he seems more bothered that we are sitting here rather that being pleased to have us here this morning. He rushed us and while we were trying to modify our orders, he would look on to the next person. Didn't check in on us, didn't care to see if we needed anything else, didn't apologize for the food taking so long. (We didn't have a massive order)... The Crab Benedict didn't even have crab on it, it didn't have old bay and the hollandaise sauce was bland. My mom had to get salsa AND hot sauce to get any type of flavor. The pumpkin pancakes WERE NOT even pumpkin.. LITERALLY!! They were regular pancakes with some pumpkin spice sprinkled over the top (which is not what I had the first time I visited).. Super nice little place. It is tucked off the main street running through town and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Coming here for a late breakfast on a Sunday, I had the perfect meal of the Morning Burrito - Bacon, eggs, avocado and cheddar cheese in a tortilla grilled to perfection. It came with home fries, and they certainly looked like HOME fries that didn't come out a frozen bag.
