Tried this place based upon a recommendation from a family member. We were vacationing during the off season and the weather was like forty degrees the evening we went, so the restaurant wasn't very full except for quite a few old people aka snowbirds. So without further adieu, I'll just get right into the review. Fried Calamari - This was some of the best we've had. It wasn't too gummy or chewy like some places. It was tender and nicely flavored. Fried Crab Claws - I'm not a fan of crab at a restaurant as it's typically overpriced for what you get but my brother-in-law wanted to try. They were pricey as expected but my brother-in-law said they tasted pretty good. Grilled Flounder - We all thought the flounder was really good. We thought it was very tender and liked it better than the mahi mahi. Grilled Mahi Mahi - We all thought the mahi mahi was good. It wasn't as tender as the flounder and a tad dry. BBQ Pork Ribs and Shrimp Kabob - Ribs and shrimp were fairly tasty. The ribs were a little too slathered in barbecue sauce but were tender. The sauce was a tad too peppery for me but others liked it. The shrimp was just like any other shrimp I've had. The buttery sauce was too light and flavorless to know it was there. If the server hadn't mentioned the different kinds when I ordered, I wouldn't even know there was a 'buttery' sauce on them. Shrimp and Grits - The grits almost looked like mashed potatoes but were good. The shrimp was liked by all and the cheese(?) sauce was good too. Key Lime Pie - This pie was the only real disappointment of the meal. It seemed to me like more of a pumpkin pie consistency and the crust wasn't as 'crusty' as preferred. The flavor wasn't really that bad but I feel like this pie could have been found in the clearance bin and purchased from the Winn Dixie down the road. Overall, the appetizers we ordered were good. I wouldn't order the Ribs and Shrimp Kabob again but the other entrees were well liked. That being said, if you are in the area, I would suggest trying this place. read more

We were seated outside and even though it was hot and humid, it was beautiful. The waitress did a great job but the food was only average and very expensive. I'm not sure we would go back. My husband ordered the fried shrimp which came with fries and slaw. For the price, you would think it would come with more shrimp I had grilled grouper with baby shrimp on top and it had a very odd sauce on it. I had dinner tonight at Surf Hut in Destin and it once again did not disappoint. They have the best salads. The lettuce is always ice cold and so fresh and the homemade ranch is to die for. The pork sliders and fries were also delicious. Best of all was the server,Toad. He was so friendly and provided excellent service with a smile and maybe a few jokes! Definitely ask for him if you have the opportunity. The most beautiful sunset finished the perfect dinner. If you can, time your dinner around the sunset. You won't be disappointed. read more

This place has actual potential right on beach nice inside service was good and on top never had to wait long for anything. The menu was limited and the food was decent but a bit pricey for the quality. Drinks were good not great for a beach bar you usually get more liquor and flavor. I think this is more of a family fun don't expect much easy casual dining no different than a chain type restaurant that has so much more potential than that. I would give 3.5 stars because our server was sweet and most people enjoy places like this how it is, however on vacation I don't want what I can have at home. Had endless summer salad more iceberg lettuce than the actual toppings. Son had grilled mahi-mahi sandwich w fries, husband fried shrimp platter. We were staying on the far west side of Destin and decided to take a little drive east, so we could see more of the town and find a spot to eat on the beach. The address says Destin but their website says they're located on Miramar Beach. I suppose they're right on the border. What first drew us here was we were wanting a Pompano Joes kind of place (on the sand, tropical drinks, vibes) but without the crowd. Surf Hut seemed to fit the mold, and it was nice reading they were voted "2019 Best Seafood in Destin." We came for late lunch and it wasn't very crowded, and I kind of liked that. We asked to sit on the front patio (facing the beach) but the hostess said there are no servers for that area. What seemed to be the manager, was nearby and quickly chimed in saying they could send a server out there no problem. I really appreciated that and consider that to be exceptional customer service. I inquired about their fruit mojitos and was told they're fresh fruit based and not just flavorings. I opted for the strawberry mojito but didn't like it too much. There was too much soda water in it. My husband went the safer route with a rum and coke. For our meal we had the 6pc fried gulf shrimp with coleslaw and fries and mahi mahi tacos with white rice and black beans. The shrimps were a fair size and delicious. The mahi mahi tacos weren't my favorite, but they did the job. I preferred the rice and beans that accompanied it. Overall, very satisfied with my experience here. read more

In the beach front restaurants catergory in Sandestin is where I found the Surf Hut. The eatery was near my hotel and featured basic beach bar food. The small parking lot made it difficult to find a parking spot. On a Sunday night at sunset the wait for an inside table with no gulf view was 30 minutes. Other people who failed to read the sign to check in with the hostess and sat at an empty table were never served and walked out. While waiting to be served customers can play games in the sand behind the restaurant where there is beach access. Surf Hut texted me when my table was ready which allowed me to walk the beach until it was. I seen probably 7-8 jelly fish at the shore line while walking the beach. After returning to the restaurant, I quickly learned the menu was a tad over priced and didn't really feature anything that separates it from other eateries nearby. I ordered an appetizer, mozzarella squares, which were practically mini size. I ordered oysters x3 for 1.75 a piece that come on a paper plate with a small chuck of ice beneth it with tartar sauce, cracker packets and a lemon slice. I asked my server if they would bake them and was told no. I ordered fish tacos for $15.99 that comes with rice pilaf. The tacos weren't anything special and had lots of cabbage slaw a top. I took wide bites to consume each tortilla, so it came with enough food, although the southwest rice pilaf was almost more appetizing and flavorful than the tacos were. I ate coleslaw as well which was eh. Prior to ordering the "fish tacos" with an un- named type fish inside, I asked if the restuarant served amber jack and was told no. At one point a sangria was ordered and that took 20 minutes to be delivered from the bar. The size of the sangria was laughable as it was served in a plastic cup a little smaller than a red solo cup although customers can keep the cup the drink comes in. My waiter was attentive for the most part but was busy serving multiple tables. The dinning room had lots of large TV's with great definition to watch sports on. As with many beach bars, customers are paying more for the view and the drinks on tap than the food or exotic fish available to consume. read more

Surf Hut has it's own private parking lot, easy access to the beach, tons of things to do like corn hole and jumbo Connect 4, and great food! We came for lunch and were seated at a covered outdoor table. The breeze was sufficient to make this outdoor arrangement cool enough on a reasonably hot day. There were good kid's meals for my two sons and they provide Wikisticks for them to play with while they wait. My wife got fish tacos and I got the St. Louis style rib lunch meal. Lunch special was a little pricey ($15), but it's probably a result of the prime location. Rib sauce was tangy and ribs were tender. This restaurant looks like it caters to lots of different crowds...the bar scene crowd, families, and groups that want to eat & play. The location of this place is wonderful. There is a beautiful view of the beach. The staff was friendly and we had no problems getting a table even with a group of 5. The only downside was that some of the dishes were not that great. Overall the food was mediocre. Other than the shrimp and fish tacos, nothing blew the group out of the water. I have no idea how this has 4 stars on Yelp! I took my daughter and 2 granddaughters for a girls' vacay - and we stopped here to grab a meal. First, the parking is shared with the local beach access parking so it took 30 minutes for us to wait in line and grab a spot when someone left. But that has no bearing on the review. It's about the food. Which wasn't good and was quite pricey. We had a great time sitting outside on the beach - so the view is great. But let's get to the food. Sat down and ordered a glass of Chardonnay. Server said he had to check if they still had any (it's "peak season"). Started with the 'hot crab dip' - supposedly the famous specialty but was more warm/room temp than hot. No crab we could see. Nice and creamy but the pita was a little greasy. I ordered crackers - which was better. My daughter ordered the $54 crab legs - which were actually good. All of her sides were cold. My granddaughter wanted steak - so we ordered the 8 oz to split - medium rare. Thought we could split among the table "surf and turf". It was cooked well - but the meat was so tough we could barely chew it. Again, all sides stone cold. Caesar salad was OK (it's salad). Just really underwhelming for a $150 tab for 2 adults and 2 kids....Don't expect high end food outside of the crab legs (which were still pretty pricey). read more

Worthy of an update. This place continues to not disappoint. While the hardest part here is getting in especially if you have a large party it's worthy of proper planning because the service and the food are epic. It's strongly recommended for parties of 6+ to arrive before 5pm for dinner seating. We had a group of 13 came late at 630pm and after 90 mins had to leave bc the estimate of 2.5 hrs wait was accurate. Their wait times are extremely accurate. We then returned the next day as requested at 5pm and were seated in 45 mins. If you're looking for true southern hard working folks all of the staff and service people are just that. Especially AL and BRIAN, they really go out of their way if able to improve your experience and make you a regular. Coming back! AL took special care from cook line to my wife for her soy and nut allergies. This place truly goes the distance on allergies so don't be fooled by their commercial touristy vibe. Food was good, but not excellent or terribly memorable. Our group ordered grouper sandwiches & a grouper platter & some peel & eat shrimp. The grouper was cooked well, but portions were pretty small - totally agree with the guy that said the tomato slice was bigger than the piece of fish! That's not an exaggeration! Lots of "filler" fries (not good fries at all - wouldn't recommend those). Slaw was soggy & more chewy than crunchy - although the dressing had a good flavor. Quick in easy guys if you're in Miramar Beach FL. this is one of the few places to eat near the beach. Restaurant has a great retro feel with its big bright signs and great views of the beach. The menu has lots of options and the food is surprisingly good and comes out fast. I had the Fried Calamari which were a little grease but good along with the Fried Grouper sandwich which was very tasty. So great we went two nights in a row. The food and service was wonderful. Love the beach area in the back for the kiddos to play.

Loved it here. Very comfortable and open, not noisy or crowded. The service was great. Friendly like she actually enjoyed her job. The food was pretty good as we. The raw oysters were smaller than expected. My wife and granddaughter devoured grabbers while I enjoyed a huge plate of jumbo shrimp. We had THE BEST time at Surf Hut! We brought our kiddos here for dinner after a long day at the beach, and while everyone was pretty tired, we had one of our best dinners of the week. Getting there at 5pm was the best idea, because it filled up quickly after. To not have a wait for dinner in Destin is a rare occasion! They have a ton of fun games in the sand, so if you sit on the back patio by the water, the kids can have a blast while the adults relax. It's a really fun setup. The food was great and I had the best mahi mahi of my life. We sadly didn't try any cocktails but those looked pretty great as well. We'll be back here on our next trip! First impression was... They have a very large parking lot! Then the hostess greeted us in a really fun and kind manner. We were quickly seated in an outside spot on a super busy time. Then the food was outstanding, the view of the ocean is gorgeous, and the best service we've had in our visit to Destin. Mark at Surf Hut in Destin is a phenomenal waiter!! The restaurant is on the beach, so they had a million dollar view, plus great ambience and really good food! We had Shrimp and grits which was simply delicious, Fried Grouper, Fried Calamari, Key Lime pie, and a Coconut Mojito! Highly highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Destin! read more

came here with a group that we met impromptu at our hotel during happy hour. So this was a good continuation after that since we'd already had a bunch of booze in us. I ended up getting a seafood platter It was pretty good and feeling but nothing amazing about it. It also came with gumbo which was good. Service was very friendly and quick had no issues here Whatsoever They have a parking lot which is free. It is very close to the beach you can walk within minutes we came at night time so we couldn't see anything but I imagine in the daytime you would have pretty good views. The water in Destin is gorgeous FYI. Price was great given the quantity and quality of food. overall I'm glad we came here because of the convenience but nothing really stood out about the food it's really more about the view and the convenience from our hotel that we came to Peruse.
