It's a food truck with a small parking lot but I had no problem parking I got the nachos with pork and they were amazing. It was a huge portion and I couldn't finish it. Ate here a few days ago. The tacos are huge, enough meat fell out of my taco that I was able to make tacos later for the kids dinner. They are so sweet, their location is really cool it just adds to the mill. However, I must say, the flies are insane but seems more like an area issue vs the food because it was very clean and the taco shells are perfect and homemade crispy, but if you let the taco shells sit more than a few minutes they get very greasy. I would eat there again if there were pest control of some sort. read more

It a shame, after 4 years of having a burrito every Saturday I can no longer recommend this place.... Today was our first visit since before the recent storms and we were surprised at not only the increase in prices by 3-4$ per burrito but also by how significantly smaller each burrito was. On top of the the proportions are all out of each with nearly double the rice and beans and less than half the meat and other fillings. This used to be a good value at being a little pricey but was worth it and now I can honestly say it is not worth it any way what so ever... $75 for 3 burritos and chips/gauc compared to was used to be $58. As a former Californian, I can tell you Mexican food is hard to come by on Oahu. Surf N Salsa is worth a visit if you're missing that. I got the surf and turf burrito which was big and full of all the fixings. My favorite part though were the carne asada fries - they are not to be missed. My friend and I came on a Saturday evening at 7:30 and had to wait an hour for the food to come out. Thankfully we weren't too hungry and the outdoor seating area was pleasant enough but that is a crazy wait I don't think I can justify for almost any meal no matter how good it is. read more

I was shocked by the inflated price of the tiny side of guacamole. The kids liked their chicken quesadilla, but might have preferred cheese only because it was very thick. The outdoor seating area is super cute - felt like we in a beautiful oasis in the middle of nowhere surrounded by huge cacti, large greenery, gravel ground, light shading, wooden tables and chairs, etc. Order at the front, they'll give you a number to place on table, grab some napkins and cold water from the side, and staff will bring out the order to your table. The tacos were delicious and the tortillas they used were fresh, made to order. Not your traditional street tacos but delicious none the less. The empanada was ok. I always tell people (in hushed tones because it's already crowded enough) that Surf N Salsa is the BEST Mexican on island. We've been coming here for years. The food is always consistent, as are their longer wait times (remember hushed tones). But so so worth the wait. Actually on this particular visit, the wait was very short, about 20 minutes. But at least they always give you an ETA on your food. It had been awhile, so if it has for you too, there are tables in the front and the back now, with lovely string lights to create an epic back patio (and front patio?) vibe in the evening. This was my first time coming for dinner - we live town, ok? And it was such a lovely experience. We shared tsunami fries, a shrimp burrito and I ordered a chile verde crispy taco. That taco was bomb. If you like spicy, highly recommend. If you didn't know, they make their own tortillas. It shows. They're amazing. The pork in my amazing taco shell was so nice and tender, tasty, slightly spicy, just chefs kiss. My friend that introduced me to SNS is from San Diego, where I think carne asada fries is their national dish, and she said these are legit. Add delicious grilled shrimp and you have tsunami fries. By the by, eating the shrimp on said tsunami fries years ago is what led me to always want to order the shrimp burrito when I visit SNS. To top all that off, I think they have the best horchata on island. And if you think I'm wrong, please tell your girl where it's better, we're taking suggestions. But SNS's horchata is so creamy and cinnamon-y. They do run out sometimes, so I always ask, and after driving all that way, if they got it, I'm getting it. Oh and they have a nice water dispenser for customers to refill their hydration vessels. Back in the day, pre covid, they used to give chips & salsa to dine in customers. This is a popular place. Very busy and a wait for food. But it's good when you're looking for Mexican food. I came for lunch and had their asada tacos with guac and cotija cheese and it was great! I came back for dinner with my husband and had chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. Not bad, but I prefer the crunchy taco. My husband had 2 chicken soft tacos, but they were out of guac... and I think the toppings play a big part in over all flavor. Either way, good place to try. One of our favorite Mexican restaurants on the island! So good! We love to get the crispy carne asada taco plate. We have tried the fries, which are good as well but we prefer the taco plate. While it is a food truck, there is seating in the front and back of the food truck. There has often been a line whenever we have gone so I would be prepared to wait. There is parking in the lot in front of the food truck, which can get crowded. The service is friendly and the outside tables and decorations are cute. We spent a day exploring the North Shore area of Oahu and came across Surf N Salsa. This is a permanent food truck in a courtyard with some others, serving basic Mexican inspired fare such as tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. There is outdoor seating in a small courtyard in front of the establishment, and limited parking available. We ordered a burrito, rice, and fries and were happy with the food quality. The burrito was freshly made and the ingredients had a good flavor. The rice was fairly standard, no spice and a more subtle Mexican taste. We got a large order of fries and they were hot, crispy and a lot of them! Check the photo but it filled up a carry out container, this was more than we could both eat and we ended up tossing some out (that we didn't feed to the birds ). We had a nice lunch and would definitely go back if we had the opportunity. read more

Cute little place to try out in the north shore! This place is in Haleiwa town, fairly easy to find. There is a parking lot with a decent amount of free parking and someone there to guide you to a stall. We ordered quickly, and there was a decent amount of people waiting for their food. We quickly got our chips n guac, they really filled the bag of chips. We waited maybe 20 minutes for our food but it did not disappoint. The street tacos were HUGE! I thought $5.50 was a little steep until it came out, and the tacos were well worth it. Flavorful, good amount of sauce, and a little spicy. Our favorites are the Surf n Turf Burrito and Al Pastor Crunchy Tacos! Chimichangas are great too - just heavier! Fish tacos are good if you want something a tad lighter. Comes with great green and red salsa too. They updated their seating since we last came here! Outdoor seating in the front and back. Boho rustic look. Sink located in the back near the tree to wash hands. Water refill station is handy. Utensils out. We came in veteran's day and it wasn't as crazy during the afternoon. Weekends - expect a wait 30 min- 1 hour sometimes. It's always worth it though. Free customer parked in the lot! Just don't eat here if you're in a rush - they are usually doing their best!! Priced by the protein. Six inch corn tortilla. Soft or better still, crunchy. The fresh corn tortilla blisters and bubbles in the oil creating a crisp airy shell. Opting for the fresh pan fried mahi, excellent. Gently seasoned, perfectly cooked, fresh toppings and salsa. Chimichangas - Giant, deep fried, stuffed flour tortilla goodness. Loaded with your choice of protein served with greens, sour cream, a picante guac and for a slight upcharge, slathered with their house made cheese sauce. The cashier recommended it with lengua. She was right! Uber tender, well braised then grilled, beefy goodness. Epic. Burrito - Heavy (over a pound), good girth, warm and feels so good in the hand. Constructed from a freshly made 13" flour tortilla and stuffed full of rice, beans, onions, cilantro, sour cream, melted cheese, guac, salsa and a huge amount of protein. Opting for well grilled, juicy but incredibly aggressively salted carne asada, it just works. Do note, the salsa used in the burrito has some kick. Salsas are extremely fresh and flavorful but bring the heat. Tomatillo is the mildest with great chili flavor and heat. Their red salsa kicks up the spice level further. The habanero is thermonuclear yet still has the fruity chili flavor of the pepper showing through. Friendly service. Lots of seating. (Take advantage of it if you ordered a crispy taco). We've been coming here pretty regularly for the past year and a half or so. The line and wait is usually pretty long, so we place an online order way ahead of time so that our food is ready or close to it by the time we get there. Yesterday we ordered take out through the website at 4:30pm with a designated pick up time of 5:15. My order wasn't ready until 6:20! Was told by one employee that take out orders don't get made until you check in (since when?!). Even so, I DID check in upon arrival. Honestly feel like this place is overhyped. Guacamole lacked lime and salt, pretty important ingredients to me for a guacamole. I recently got in to multitas so I ordered one with carne asada. It had tons of meat and cheese, the meat was pleasantly tender and juicy but nothing super flavorful. I feel like it lacked seasoning but it was hot and freshly cooked. My partner got a fish soft taco and a shrimp soft. He said the fish was bland but the shrimp was pretty good. He tried to enhance the fish one with the 2 spoonful of salsas they give you but he still didn't like it. The salsas had good flavor and the chips were hot, crunchy and delicious. He's from Texas so his standards are high. I expected a decently high price but I also had a certain level of expectation for food since this place is pretty popular. It was just ok to me. read more

We grew up in California, and Mexican food in America doesn't get better than the South-West. So we had moderate-to-low expectations when we moved here nearly 3 years ago--we've been disappointed by quite a few places around town and even up North. But these California natives know how it is DONE! Their menu is diverse, expansive and everyone can find something to enjoy. Their made-fresh frescas & horchata pair well with every dish! Might be the best mex food on island... until I find a better one of course... I like how they take their plates seriously. Refried beans and tomato rice are spot on. Having lived in Southern California for 10+ years, i think their food here is comparable to what you can find on mainland. I really enjoyed their crunchy lengua taco, and how they can do that for my 2 taco plate! The tongue was flavorful and tender! Their carne asada was a chewy and tough so I wouldn't get that next time. However, their refried beans and tomato rice really made up for it. Also their guac and chips were amazing. The chips were hot and crispy, the the guac was fresh and well seasoned. I think next time I'd like to try their taco salad with lengua. Hopefully they can do that! They're busy but the food came out at a decent time. The person who delivered our food was very nice and friendly as well. There's picnic table seating but not every single spot was shaded.
