BYOM- Bring Your Own Meat. Pretty fustrating paying $15 for a sandwich and getting 3 and a 1/2 slices of meet for a foot long sandwich. Better offer paying $8 for a sandwich at sprouts and getting 2-3x the amount of meat or going to jersey Mike's and getting your moneys worth. Finished my sandwich, did not feel satiated.. only felt ripped off. I knew times were rough and economy was bad but dammnnn, looking at the photos that other people posted.. they definitely did me dirty

This little gem in the heart of Point Loma never disappoints. They have amazing sandwiches, super fresh ingredients and very well-balanced flavor profiles. The sandwiches are also huge, you really get what you pay for--one order can almost be two separate meals. My favorite sandwiches are the USS Nimitz, the Rockslides, and the OB Longhorn. They have really good potato salad as well as a nice selection of chips and sodas. Highly recommend this spot! Update: Came back for the first time in a couple years and have to say I totally loved it again. I brought my great aunt and mom. They enjoyed the USS Nimitz, while I tried the Admiral's Avocado Delight for the first time. It was pretty tasty! Though I think I'll go for a meat sandwich next time. The potato salad was really good too--we were all surprised by how delectable it was. Still a sandwich champion of San Diego, and a must-try in Point Loma's culinary scene.

Stopped by Surf Side Subs in Point Loma and had a solid experience. The sandwich was good, nothing fancy, but definitely enjoyable. I liked the themed names on the menu, gave the place a bit of personality. It also seemed like a real local favorite, which is always a good sign. Overall, it's a reliable spot if you're in the area and want a straightforward sub. Not something crazy I'd go out of my way for, but I'd happily stop in again if I was in the area.

My bf and I split two sandwiches here, and they were both extremely disappointing. The #1 barely had any turkey on it, and there was one strip of bacon in the entire sandwich that seemed like it wasn't even cooked. The #12 barely had any pastrami...like 3 small pieces on the entire sandwich, the pepperoncinis were so old & dry and you couldn't even chew them - both of us had to spit them out, pretty gnarly. Thought the menu sounded great, and we'd rather give this place our business than a big chain...but unf we won't be back. $16 each for sandwiches that were mostly shredded lettuce and bread! I'm so sad to leave this review! But also mad that we paid $30+ when we could have made these sandwiches better ourselves. I feel ripped off. The pics here on yelp make the sandwiches look packed with ingredients, and very fresh - that's not actually what you get! Save your money and go somewhere else.

I love it here! Calling ahead is best because it does get busy, but the staff does manage it well. There's plenty of room to sit and an outside area too. The sandwiches are GREAT!

Such a nice group of guys working at the Surf Side Deli. They make each sandwich to order and the bread is just the right amount of squishy. I prefer shredded lettuce over leafs on my sandwiches, so extra bonus star for that. Plus, the smoker out back tells me they actually smoke their own meat. They have warm and cold sandwiches, plus the option to have them as a salad. Some of the names pay tribute to the local Navy, others to surf culture. Hidden gem: There is a nice little patio out back that I never knew about before.

Though this place might seem small it is mighty. Very unassuming though the signage is all around this establishment has some personality. Though was not busy when I walked in, I was greeted immediately and given some of the most professional yet friendly and welcoming customer service. I decided to get what was explained to me as their popular sandwich "Just The Tip" I mean who doesn't like a good Tri-Tip. And yes I got it just the way it comes for my first. Also be aware it comes hot. They use a buzzer system though it was given to me they brought my food right out to me. Service this trip was top tier and fast. I plan to go back and I recommend

Some pastrami while turning my sandwich into a salad. Swiss cheese is somewhere in there. Mustard based dressing could've saved it.
    John L.

Almost one star. Turn any sandwich into a salad. Not really. I ordered the forgetaboutit sandwich as a salad. Doesn't hold true to the sandwich at all. The sandwich is supposed to have Pastrami, Stone-Ground Mustard, Swiss Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Herb Mayo and Pepperoncinis on an Artisan Baguette. Salad didn't have herb mayo, or mustard. Pastrami without mustard or mayo? Also the sandwich doesn't have carrots, cucumbers, or red cabbage. The Swiss cheese was almost a no show. This salad wasn't near the sandwich very disappointed. A mayo mustard based or just mustard based dressing could have saved me regretting my bank account having $19 less dollars. Sorry I love Surfside Deli, usually...

Really enjoyed our trip to surf side deli. Ordered a #7. I really enjoyed the cranberry Dijon mustard, it added an extra depth of flavor. It was a good size sandwich for the price. Everyone in the building was super friendly and welcoming. I definitely want to come back to try one of the hot sandwiches!

Then, as the day progressed I wanted to have a good lunch so I would not be that hungry for dinner and just lightly snack. So, I was craving a deli sandwich. I decided to try Rubicon Deli in Mission Hills area. I kept hearing how their sandwiches were so good. I ordered a tuna sandwich, and the girl behind. the counter was helpful and friendly, but did inform me they were out of a few bread types. I order a Dutch crunch type of bread for a tuna sandwich. They serve half and whole sandwiches so I just ordered a half which was still a good-sized portion . I wish I would have liked this sandwich because I drove 20 minutes to try this place. The bread was too dry and super messy because it was so dry. The rest of the sandwich was okay. The tuna was bland tasting as it did not seem like it was seasoned. The veggies on it were the only thing that made the sandwich decent tasting. It was nothing to write home about or drive out of my area to try it . I was hungry and paid so I had to eat it. Although, I threw away the other half of it . It was not horrible, but it was not tasty either. The service was good and they had plenty of tables to sit down inside. But, I also noticed the tables were not being wiped down and under the tables there were food crumbs all over. Luckily, I had my trusty sanitizer for the table. The fact no one was cleaning as it needed to be done was a turn off. Restaurants and places of businesses need to take it serious and keep it clean everywhere so no one gets sick. Lastly, keep in mind when you arrive at this place, you have to pay the City of San Diego parking which I paid 2.50 extra just to come here .

I used to frequent Fatboy's because it was close and convenient for a long time, but I am rarely able to visit anymore... parking is a bigger challenge every day in North Park, and finding even a 15-minute spot takes way longer than the drive for me now (but the walk is too far to pick up a quick meal). Today I was down the street for something else so decided to order a sandwich. I was excited, then my jaw dropped when I saw the price increases. It's $18 for the North Park Club now, with no extras. I already had a hard time justifying $15 for a sandwich but I'm officially, 100% priced out now. I know it's not necessarily on the business owners; rent is exorbitant in NP, profit margins are small in the food service industry, and operating costs are high. Our city is eating itself alive, but thank you for the years of sandwiches!

At long last we beamed down, and the experience surpassed every expectation. From the moment we entered, the atmosphere felt like coming home to a welcoming starbase. The staff treated us with genuine warmth and patience as we navigated a menu full of storied classics. Their attentive service turned a simple meal into a memorable mission. My first officer aka wife enjoyed a superbly composed salad, and chose the Turkey Club -- both delivered with thoughtful care. I began with the biscuits and gravy, a traditional hit that tasted like comforting shore leave. But the true highlight was the patty melt: perfectly seared, with lush caramelized onions and melted cheese that achieved harmony at warp speed. It was, without hyperbole, the best patty melt I've encountered in this quadrant. Each bite was a cascade of flavor that felt like discovering a thriving new world. This kitchen knows how to respect ingredients and execute classics flawlessly. No extra condiments were necessary -- the craftsmanship spoke for itself. So we decided since we'd be in the Bay Park area, we'll check out the original location, Siesel's. Glad we did! I wanted to make a slow cooker brisket one weekend, so it was perfect. Siesel's is a bit larger than Iowa Farms and feels a bit more open. Same great cow awaiting outside the store. But they have a whole deli counter with all the sides plus more! They didn't have any ready made prepackaged bbq baked beans, it was better, made fresh daily and we were able to get as much as we wanted at the deli counter. They also have several different Siesel's signature potato salads and pasta salads that aren't offered prepackaged at Iowa farms, which I absolutely love! My favs are the Asiago pasta and deviled egg potato salad. We also decided to try their Tri-tip sandwich made to order at the deli and it was delicious! Fluffy bun piled high with Tri-tip covered in bbq sauce and have the option to add cheese and anything else. Love it! Staff is always very helpful.
