So this was our first time here and we will definitely be back. You have been to other run of the mill yogurt places where it is pay by the ounce but this is on a whole other level. 10-12 flavors is my guess. I didn't count. It was time to depart the outer Banks for home until Fall and we wanted ice cream on our last night. We went to Booty Treats, forgetting that they are not open on Monday nights, at least at this time of year. On our way back to the condo, we stopped at Surfin' spoon for a first visit. We did not realize that the Spoon is one of those serve yourself places, which is fine. You can easily mix whatever you want and top it any way you want. We know not to overdo it as the cost and volume adds up quickly. We listened to the sales pitch from the proprietor and served ourselves. I selected two flavors; something called Carvin' Caramel and Cookies and Cream. I topped it with a little crushed Butterfinger. Now, we fully understand, frozen yogurt is not ice cream, and I will be the voice crying in the wilderness. This was tasteless, except for sweetness. The caramel had a little flavor, the Cookies and Cream had absolutely none. Blindfolded, I would never know what either flavor was. The texture was on the grainy side and they just seemed like they were watery. I don't mean melted, I mean just diluted. We certainly were both disappointed. I seriously don't understand the ratings. This is not exceptional or remarkable yogurt. I can only assume that people are impressed with the ability to pump a lot of the product. If you want something cold and sweet, this is your place. Don't bother selecting a flavor, they are essentially all the same, regardless of color. The only flavor I had in mine was the Butterfinger on top. This place is a complete mystery to me. read more

My friend and I wanted to grab ice cream and happened upon this place and loved it! It's cute with lots of indoor/outdoor seating. There were plenty of signs that helped explain everything and the process! I also feel like it was very fairly priced! I was actually shocked at how inexpensive it was haha. When I first found this I'm like oh it's just soft serve/frozen yogurt and then I came here and my perception changed! The vibes, the dessert, the clothes, lol! The frozen yogurt was sooo good and even though your cup is full, after you finish you feel light and fresh - that's how you know it's good!! I also got a T-shirt and it is so soft - love the quality (minus a hole in the shirt after less than a week of wearing it but I don't mind cuz it's so cozy). This was one of the best places i went to while on vacation in outer banks. the outside interior was beautiful followed by the inside interior. they had many ice cream flavor options as with a variety of toppings. the people there are all very nice and so was the flavors of everything. I got the cake batter and it was so good. it tasted exactly like freshly made cake batter. the stores merch was also so adorable. i would like to mention how they have multiple options when it comes to donations. they donate to local schools and for people with autism. When you Google "vegan ice cream OBX" this place is the first to pop up--and honestly, it's the only place you need. They have options for everyone, but thanks to my quick Google search, my family is obsessed with the ice cream sandwiches! I loved the Chocolate Dreams sandwich! The whole shop is too cute; they have merch like shirts and stickers, self-serve frozen yogurt, and other treats. They have vegan and non-vegan options, so it's a win-win. We went once as soon as they opened (noon) and loved them so much, we went back the next day around 7PM. Be prepared for a line, but it's SO worth it! After reading so many whopping... reviews on yelp in regards to how amazing this. Local fro-yo places myself and fellow yelpers. Kelly C. and her family decided to see what the rage was all about. It is a very fun and lively place... different and homey and pretty self explanatory in regards of what to do a this yogurt bar. A sign above the soup bowl like Styrofoam cups reads Here's How it. Works. Giving you 4 step directions if you need literal directions lol...I do however appreciate the disclaimer that the yogurt does dispense quickly so be ready. It is. 48 cents per oz. The flavors here are a bit on the generic side but they do off a decent amount of selections... always good for someone like me who is slightly indecisive with more flavor selections. I was amused by the small cartoon signs that list the flavors above the dispensers. I decided on the Offshore orange a vegan sorbet..very nice bright orange color bright flavor. Almost like an orange creamsicle pop..The Keylime Pie... a light mint green almost opaque in color tasted refreshing like liquid pie not that. Weird milky creamy business like most yogurt places. and the Salted Caramel Pretzel a light brown almost coffee with milk colored was creamy and not overly sweet.(personally I could've used a bit more of a saltines to it)..perhaps they should offer a pinch of sea salt as a topping lol. Toppings Bar... *Now if you have read my reviews before about fro-yo I strongly dislike softserve because I think that the topping selection is limited and weight wise fruit is about 10 cents which is a bit of a copy out with price..(personal gripe) So keeping that in mind the fruit. selection was very fresh..didn't look like it sat out for the whole day waiting for you to spoon it up. The dry toppings were nicely separated in clear candy like dispensers with spoons for each respective topping. Organized clean..no toppings mixed with others and clearly labeled. It was a nice display to look at oh and did I mention. The toppings weren't stale(thumbs up). They also offered warm chocolate chip cookies and warm brownies by request. Which I thought was an awesome small detail. Overall our dessert set us back about $26 for 5 people. The yogurt is 48 cents an oz. so if you divide that out its about $5.30. Which is not bad for 5. Yogurts with toppings. I do agree the quality is better here then at. Sweet frog. The flavor of the yogurt isn't over yogurt or too sweet it was light and refreshing and not overly creamy. My favorite flavor was the keylime pie because it really surprised me.The. orange was a close second and the sea salted caramel just need a pincer of. Sea salt and it would've. been golden.The blueberries and black. Varies that I got were fresh and tangy with a hint of sweetness. So i'll give it to yelpers...This is. There are lots of things to love about this little yogurt shop. The decor is super fun, with bright colors and a really nice beachy, surfy theme. We visit a good number of yogurt shops, so we feel like we have a pretty good feel for these types of places. Here's what I can tell you... Pros: -Locally owned and clearly a favorite with locals. -Clean, bright, fun to visit. -Reasonably priced at 45 cents an ounce. -Excellent (better than average) assortment of toppings... loved that they had Nutella and peanut butter options, plus a wide array of dry toppings and fruit toppings. Everything easy to serve and clearly labeled. -Friendly staff. -Yogurt was good... nice and creamy, smooth, tasty. Cons: -We wished for some more creativity with the flavors of yogurt. Maybe we've been spoiled but thought the normal chocolate, vanilla, cake batter type options could have benefited from something tart, something maybe salted caramel, something beyond just standard flavors. -Wished they handed out sample cups as most of these types of restaurants do. How do you know you want a whole cup full of something if you don't get to try it? -Wished they hadn't used styrofoam cups. -Parking can be a bit challenging but c'est la vie. But overall a nice addition to the options in Nags Head and a perfectly great place to stop in and grab a cool treat. read more

The frozen yogurt is good and there is a good assortment of flavors, toppings, and sauces for on top. The location is very cute and it is about a block over from a beach so it is accessible for before or after going to the beach. There is money in the ceiling which they collect in the winter and give to the cause Surfing for Autism. The workers there were very nice and friendly and offered samples of the yogurt flavors. There are tables, a large counter to sit at, and a wooden bench by the counter with pillows. It is air conditioned and has cool memorabilia and posters around the location. There is also an arcade in the back and they have a children's book and shirts about the location and the surfing spoon character. I would recommend it if you are looking for a chocolatey or fruity dessert in Outer Banks. read more

A couple weekends ago was my first time visiting the Surfin' Spoon and I absolutely cannot wait to enjoy more fro-yo from here all summer! I'm a big fan of fruity flavors, so my choice of Key Lime Pie hit the spot. Location is ideal- in a beachy neighborhood a street from the water. Atmosphere is clean, comfortable, relaxed and inviting. The money pushed into the ceiling is a clever idea that adds so much character and charm.
