The Surfing Deer is hands down our favorite restaurant in Seagrove Beach. After eight years of dining throughout the 30A area, this is the place we return to again and again. From the moment you arrive, the service is exceptional. The maître d' and wait staff are not only efficient but genuinely kind and welcoming, creating an experience that feels both polished and comfortable. The attention to detail throughout the meal is impressive. What truly stands out is the level of care from management. During our visit, the manager made a point to stop by many tables--not just for a quick, routine check-in--but to sincerely thank guests for visiting and ask thoughtful questions about their meals and service. Ambiance was nice but service was not great for our group of six. We started by ordering drinks and four appetizers. Four of the five drinks arrived, then the appetizers came. Our server never checked on us so we couldn't inquire about the missing drink. We ate all of the appetizers with our menus still on the table because he didn't come back to take our dinner order until we had eaten all of the appetizers and had to flag down someone else to ask if we could place our entree order. Have never had that happen at any dining establishment let alone a higher end restaurant like Surfing Deer! It took a long time for the entrees to arrive and to get our drink order corrected. The original adult mocktail was given to one of the kids and it was unclear that it was her kids drink that was never brought to the table. Our truffle fries were cold, the pad Thai was chewy and oddly salty. Those things could have been overlooked but we just felt overall that we weren't really being cared for at the table so we skipped dessert. It was a very disappointing experience. I ordered a strawberry cocktail and he fig and the bee and both were delicious. We started the meal with the fried oysters elite and the chilled jumbo shrimp. The fried oysters had a corn salsa that really brought out the flavor. The jumbo chilled shrimp were good, but the sauce it came with was amazing. The bar area is stunning with deer statues and a really sweet backstory about a man and his pet deer that adds a special touch to the vibe. We weren't super hungry, so we ordered a few things to share. The hushpuppies and bread rolls were both really good. I had the chicken soup, it was very flavorful and the summer panzanella burrata salad -- both were fresh and delicious. My husband had the filet of beef tenderloin, and unfortunately, it didn't impress. The sides were better than the main -- overall, we both felt the menu was kind of limited and didn't blow us away. Both entrees were excellent however the Pork Chop may have been one of the best I have ever had. What a lovely dining experience we had here! We sat on the patio and from start to finish, were well taken care of. The food and drinks were absolutely on point in quality and flavor. I had the grouper which was delicious and I am not normally a fish person! My friend had the salmon, the other friend had the pesto with shrimp and they were incredibly happy with their meals. It's one of the few places it seems that you can actually make a reservation which we appreciated with having such a large party. The prices here are high- but what else is there to expect in this area for a nice restaurant. The kids meals are around $15 but they do have some good options with fries and fruit as a side. The calamari appetizer is huge!! The sauce i think needs some tweeking that comes with it. It was fine, just needs more flavor. We split the tuna small plate and the salmon plate- we both liked the salmon more! The tuna had too much sauce and i wasn't a big fan of the sauce- it was overpowering and you couldn't really taste the tuna. The salmon was delicious- would have just had that- it looked different than other people's photos as it wasn't in a skillet. Funny enough, that plate needed more sauce hahaha. The lady who brought our drinks was so confused and switched them up. Typically not a problem except I gave up drinking and was the only one who ordered a mocktail. They do require valet for such a small parking lot. I personally think just another way to make more money. I enjoy this area however not the extra taxes and service fees labeled AE fee (art & entertainment fee) Not sure what that's about? Not all restaurants in the area adds on these extra costs. Seems like the more upscale restaurants because they know their patrons will pay just to eat well. This doesn't seem ethically right. Visited Surfing Deer with another couple. The atmosphere is nice but pretty everything else was pretty disappointing for this supposedly "high end" restaurant. The food was OK but nothing special for the prices charged. The service was quite average...a drink order never came, the food came OK but it took forever to get the bill and I had to track down the waiter. I did not know what the charge called $10 NCA was for...it was for using a credit card. Well, I guess you have to bring $300-$400 cash to restaurant to avoid this charge. The menu had a good variety of different options and everything sounded so delicious. We decided to start with the Clothesline Bacon and Surfing Deer KFC. Both were very delicious! The bacon was one of my favorite items we had. We followed that up with the jalapeño corn bread which was moist and flavorful. Served with a warm gooey butter. For main course, we had scallops and the blackened grouper fish special. Both dishes flavorful and delicious. We finished the night with an espresso martini and brownie skillet. Overall the food was 10/10. Fresh, flavorful and so so tasty! The waitstaff was also very attentive and patient with us. They made the experience even better. We ordered the pesto pasta with shrimp and lobster and then one with chicken, and two got the steak special of the night-I think NY strip. We all shared a bit with each other and it was all sooooo good. The martinis are delish as well. We had the coolest table on the patio and the atmosphere is perfect. We had the best time and this is by far the best restaurant in 30A. There are some others that are good but not great. This was incredible. We were also pleased with the kids menu with real food options. We made reservations (5 adults and two kids) the day prior and were seated immediately. Fantastic drinks, food, and service.
