Went to Surin about 6:30 on 3/30/19. Food was really good. Sushi was fresh and tasty. My Cosmo was good and strong. The appetizers that I ordered as my meal were spot on. My husband had chicken fried rice and my daughter had Thai noodle. As always, the portions were huge and the food was good. Took home enough for at least 2 additional meals. I would have done 5 stars but the place looked dirty. My feet stuck to the floor and I had to have my table wiped off before I felt comfortable using it. Water glasses were cloudy looking as well. Did you know? They have lunch specials -- 4 rolls for under $15. WHAT?! Whenever I go to a new sushi restaurant, I've very picky about the freshness of the fish. However, it turned out really well and I'm glad I went. It's probably one of the best sushi places I've gone to. I was on a company trip, and so I had gone for lunch. The lunch specials are pretty good for what you can get. 2 rolls for about $12 and they're specialty rolls -- not your average california or spicy tuna roll. I had gotten the volcano roll and the sashimi appetizer. It definitely exceeded my expectations! The sashimi appetizer has a variety of different types of fish, which are all very good. It didn't come with mackerel which I dislike because of the fishy taste. It's a good sized portion for 2 people as an appetizer, but also big enough for be 1/2 of my main entree for dinner. I got the volcano roll just because I do like raw fish in my rolls. It was soooooooooo delish! It comes with a spicy aioli sauce on the side so you can limit the amount of spiciness you can take. I also ordered a cup of jasmine tea with lemon which was good, but I had wish they offered green tea. Overall, I'd definitely return for the sushi. It's great! read more

I've had the Spicy Beef Salad for lunch here on several occasions and the flavors are amazing. The contrast of the warm steak on the cool romaine doesn't seem like it work but it's so good. It's so hard for that not to be my standard order. However, I also have had the Pad Prik with shrimp and chicken. I love the peppers, onions and mushrooms in it because it's so bold in flavor. Today I tried the Thai BBQ chicken. Going in totally blind and didnt really know what to expect... it was a pretty excellent lunch. The 1/2 chicken had kind of a sweet sauce on it and of course it was more than enough for lunch. It wasn't just sweet, it was delicious as well. It was served with what was supposed to he shrimp fried rice but it was really fried rice and they put like 4 shrimp on top... I didn't get how the chicken was so good and the rice was done crazy like that so that's why it wasn't a 5 star rating. But overall, my lunch experiences have been very good and as long as I give them the 20 mins they require, lunch is ready when I arrive for pick up. read more

The food here is always fantastic and the dine in experience is good. The Surin Special sushi is one of a kind and truly unique to them. My complaints are trying to order take out. The food here is always excellent and the lunch prices are pretty reasonable. I love their Thai basil rolls with the dipping sauce for an appetizer. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu here over the years, and you really can't go wrong. Went to dinner on a Friday night at 8pm. I sat at the sushi bar. The guys behind the counter were great. They kept checking on me and also suggested things to try. One plate was unagi and the other was sashimi and unagi. They were amazing and tasted just as good as they looked. I will definitely be back to get me some more soon. read more

I have been a customer of this location and its south side sister since they both opened. I will not go back to the 280 location sadly after tonight. Delivery hustling in and out the building. Management has seemingly decided that in house diners are not as important. Seated early for dinner and halfway through dinner a 25 top arrives. As some people may have mentioned before, this places is an only-slightly renovated O'Charley's. It's a little funny to walk into an O'Charley's and see a water-wall fronted by some kind of Thai statue. I don't get into Thai food. The heat and the spices aren't usually to my liking. After all the sushi I've eaten this passed year, though, I am looking for places that might mix it up a bit. This place did just that! I pretty much skipped over the Thai portion of the menu (although there is a lamb entree that piqued my interest and may meet my taste buds before I leave) and went straight to the sushi. They have a broad selection of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls and, like I hoped, they mixed in some interesting spices and sauces. I got the Kaboom roll and Double Shrimp roll and a couple pieces of nigiri. I've been to fast-food sushi places before and NEVER got my sushi so fast. I barely had time to send a few text messages! The Double Shrimp was tasty, but the went a little overboard on the eel sauce and a little underboard on the rice. The Kaboom roll was just about perfect and the sauce they plated it with was really very good. You'll definitely want to have some breath mints or gum after eating here though...haha! Bottom line, after a couple more boring, run of the mill sushi dinners I'll head back to Surin to wake up my taste buds once more. read more

Delicious lunch and amazing service! We came on a Saturday and found a restaurant which wasn't too crowded. Perfect for my loud friend group. We started with some potstickers and holy yum they were amazing! Everyone went with a lunch special which to our delight came with the delicious and addictive coconut soup. I could eat a massive bowl of that! I went with the chicken masaman and loved it!! The sauce is so tasty and the chicken was cooked to perfection. My only request would be to add more avocado because duh. Our server was the bomb and I wish I could remember his name. He was so helpful with a surprise I had for my friends. Surin is always a great choice for Thai food. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and the wait for a table is never very long. The restaurant and the restrooms are always clean. The sushi selection is very decent. I recommend the Yumi Yumi roll, Bagel Roll, and the Wasabi Maki. After having tried most of the rolls on their menu, those three are the best. The Bagel Roll is a great place to start if you're new to sushi. There are better sushi places in Birmingham, but Surin is a great place if you're with a group that wants menu options other than sushi. The non sushi menu is amazing. The Thai Noodle is great, as well as the Thai BBQ chicken and the Ka Proud Lamb. All excellent choices. My absolute favorite dish from Surin is only available at lunch. If you're grabbing lunch be sure to try the Noodle Bowl Lunch Special. It's a large serving of rice noodles served with your choice of meat in a peanutty lemon curry sauce, and it's to die for! read more

I asked for Basil for which they charged me an extra buck and when I opened the package the rice didn't had any Basil in it. Overall food quality sucked and so did the taste. I like their Pad Thai, catfish, roasted duck with red curry, chicken noodle bowl, and chicken Masaman. I've had both the spicy beef salad and yum yai salad and they are both great. Very nice place, really good food. Really liked the double shrimp roll. They have a soft shell crab in an asparagus sauce that I will definitely get again but will have the sauce on the side next time. It's very heavy & strong & soaked into the crab. Do not eat the duck!!! I repeat, do not eat the duck! It is quite possibly one of the worst things I have ever tasted! The shrimp coconut soup is so flavorful. It's slightly sweet but spicy and has huge shrimp in it with fresh green onion. The sushi here is actually really pretty good. The curry is sweet but so good with the dumplings and goes great with veggies and rice. Service is almost never any good and honestly the owners are known for being very rude and extreme penny punchers (translate to if something is wrong with your meal, prepare for it to be your fault). Dinner prices are too high for the quality and quantity of the product but it's totally worth the lunch prices. read more

This location is not concerned about your eating experience. Food had so much preservatives in the food it made me sneeze. Then before I was done, they asked me if I wanted a Togo box. I simple said no so they took half my unfinished meal away and gave me the check. Shortly after my sneeze went away. Example of why Restaurants won't recover, in my opinion. I have been to Surin 280 three times now and none of my experiences were that wonderful. All three times I thought the food was overpriced and hurt my stomach after eating. The Pad Thai and Pad See U both taste okay, but are a little steeply priced. The coconut milk soup is delicious and is definitely worth ordering. The service was okay, though I had my water glass sit empty for a while. I have not yet tried the sushi, but if the Thai dishes are any indication, I would go elsewhere to feed my Asian cuisine cravings. read more

Finally! A review back home. I tend to frequent this place alot with my family. The service is quick and friendly, which is a great plus when you're trying to get a quick bite to eat with two children in tow. The Pad-See-U is one of my favorite dishes, so that's what I end up ordering. The egg rolls are also a great way to start off your meal (and get the kids to eat veggies. nice trick). This review only relates to the Sushi, specifically the Sashimi combo. This was at best grocery store grade sushi. The Squid was flat out not fresh. Literally I had trouble chewing it. The rest was OK but pretty tasteless and obviously not very fresh. The rice was not properly cooked and broke apart easily. I'm sure some of the other meals are fine as they looked pretty good, but if you're going for Sashimi avoid this place. read more

I love this restaurant but I have to say, today the hostess was absolutely horrible. Please, please do not let her be the first impression when customers walk in. Her attitude was horrible and was just downright rude. I watched her seat other customers after we were seated and it was the very same treatment that we received. She VERY MUCH looked as if she did not want to be there. No greeeting, threw the menus down on our table and walked off. She did this for everyone I watched her seat. THIS is what your guests are experiencing right when they walk in the door of your business. Not good! it's november and I'm in a "giving" mood. overall, this place deserves 2 stars. but the food is always consistent and so I'm raising the star. we've been going to Surin since since we moved here almost 20 years ago - prior to that, i frequented (and i mean frequented - like 2x a week) Surin in Atlanta since 1990! when we moved "out 280", i was happy to learn Surin 280 was opening. but this place pales in comparison to the wonderful feel of the 5 points Surin and the Surin of Thailand in Virginia Heights. the bar is always empty here (and i get it - we are in the 'burbs - people don't hang at the bar out here), and more times than not, i feel like we're bothering the staff. it seems like its a "task" for them to have to wait on us. and we tip handsomely. so the atmosphere at Surin 280 is, well, bleh, my friends. just bleh. and who wants to dine in ... bleh? the food is, however, on point. and very consistent. i can always count on my pad se u pork being tasty and HOT. we like to start with the spicy beef salad (i get all the cucumbers!) and basil rolls then it's pad se u pork for me and thai noodle chicken for mr ss9. we have had their sushi, and while it's not the best in town, it will do. we like the food. the atmosphere is "bleh" ^^. so we're glad we have the option of a delivery service ... and they're on the menu! read more
