    You like old school interior and fresh sushi? If you do, this place is for you. In the late 90's this midtown sushi restaurant was right next door to Tse Yang. They were the midtown one-two punch with great high end food for their respective regions. Sushisay (old name for Japanese and Tse Yang (upscale Chinese). Tse Yang has since closed their doors, but this place under a new name (Sushiann) is still going. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised how fresh the sushi was. We had a warm greeting from the sushi chefs and great service by the servers. While it wasn't busy, which surprised me, the food soared and it was a pleasure to eat the fresh toro to Santa Barbara uni. Scallops were amazing and the mochi ice cream in the end sealed the deal. Ambience is old school...with the interior the same as it was 20 years ago. The sushi? Fresh, amazing and with great flavor. If you try this place, revel in the history but don't forget to appreciate the great food as well.

    Great atmosphere, it is a very unique and individualized experience where the staff attend to clients closely. They made us feel that we are almost haing the restaurant by ourselves. The quality of service was great. The food was good but I must say I have had better quality fish in some of the other top sushi omakase spots. Their sake menu was not as extensive as I was expecting. Overall a great restaurant.

    Never heard about this place but turned out it's been around for a while. Went there Monday lunch, it's very empty because I showed up at 1.30pm. Service is neat, I don't know how the server hold the ceramic tea cup because I can't even touch it for solid 15 mnts but she can do it flawlessly LOL I have no food allergy and restriction. That's why I wanna do omakase. Bring it on and I will eat it. The scallop is so so sweet, that's how fresh is the fish. The quality of the fish is excellent. Have to order a side of sushi rice on the side and please have miso soup after u are done with your meal

    Wonderful Japanese sushi restaurant frequented by true sushi fans and Japanese New Yorkers. I enjoyed the sushi set b that included fish from Boston and from Japan. Can't wait to go back.

    This spot was so wonderful! Our waiter was so kind and took us through each fish and its origin. I highly recommend the 15 piece Omakase. Each fish was fresh and clean. My favorite pieces were the botan ebi, toro, golden eyed snapper, green eyes, amberjack, octopus, and uni. The only piece I didn't care for was the mackerel.

    I believe this is a great sushi restaurant. The service is outstanding and very knowledgeable. The ambiance is old but welcoming. The sushi is always fresh. I have been here many times and of course will be back again.

    I had a midweek crave for sushi so I made a stop at Sushi Ann! There were only a few tables available outdoor, and the heater wasn't really working so well, but I did appreciate the wait staff trying to adjust it and making sure they did what they could with what they had. I ordered sushi a la carte - getting some of my usual favorites like uni/sea urchin, toro/fatty tuna, king salmon, amberjack, ebi/shrimp and tamago/egg. The sushi quality was decent, but don't expect this to be your 2-michelin stars type of sushi joint - you pay for what you get. Service was prompt and courteous, and the bill ended up to be about $100 before tips (including 10 pieces of sushi and a beer). I would recommend this for a quick sushi fix if you are in the midtown neighborhood.

    The fishes are very fresh and tasty. This time we tried $145 Omakase sushi and Sashimi. Next time we will try $180 chef's tasting menu, should be more sushi. This is pretty good portion, because is evening, we didn't want to see a lot. It's good price. Should try

In terms of food, I only ordered from the seasonal menu, so I'm not sure how the rest of the dishes are, but from what I had, I would go back for a light traditional meal. My appetizer was the Dashimaki Tamago/だし巻まき卵たま, or sweet savory omelet with daikon for $6.98. This came with three pieces along with a little dollop of grated radish. The pieces had a light sweetness to them along with a bit of savoriness. They were juicy and a bit bouncy while maintaining some softness. This was standard and good. My main dish was the $19.98 Beef Tan Tan Udon, or ground sirloin beef, spicy broth, baby bok choy, kikurage mushroom, scallions, and sesame seeds. While I have preferred udon from spots like Raku, the udon had a mild chew to it, and they were still good. The broth had a mix of sweetness and spiciness with a nice depth of flavor. The vegetables inside tasted fresh, and the meat added some richness. This was good as well. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go here, but the food was good. If you're in the area and looking for no frills Japanese dining in a more comfortable atmosphere at pretty decent Midtown East prices, I would recommend this place.

They have an extensive sake list and they also have the casual cocktail options like lemon drops you would find in Tokyo. The atmosphere really transports you straight into Japan if that is something you are looking for. Expect to pay a premium for small-ish portions, but at the same time very well-made and authentic food.
