We got our order delivered through Uber eats. We got a spicy tuna roll, the bomb roll, gyoza, and a garden salad. The gyoza was cold but who knows if it's the delivery drivers fault or the restaurants but it was good and crispy despite it being cold. There was no dipping sauce included. The sushi was terrible. The spicy tuna was completely cut and mixed into the spicy Mayo so it reminded me more of canned tuna. I like when the spicy tuna actually has chunks of fish in it. The bomb roll was okay but the cucumber sushi casing wasn't even full so trying to pick them up was difficult. Finally the salad was advertised as coming with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and carrots with a ginger dressing. It ended up being literally all lettuce. Not a single other vegetable. And the sauce included was not a ginger dressing. Smelled similar to a gyoza dipping sauce so we used it for that instead. I saved the container of lettuce for another day. I have been searching for a good sushi place for over a year now. I have had sushi in Japan, Philippines, Hawaii, Florida and California, so it's safe to say I know good sushi. My wife and I have ate sushi at this place about ten times now, and it is amazing! Possibly the best sushi I have ever had. I come in here all the time especially with friends and my family. Customer Service: Always kind and smiling also never show any attitude so my experience here is always great. Food : I always come here for their two specialty roll and an appetizer for $20. The starburst (deep fried sushi) and dragon roll is always a must have in my opinion. Aside from any options in the menu, wait time is usually between 10-20 mins depending on how many people are there So the wait isn't bad at all especially because the food tastes so good. This is a fantastic little Japanese joint in Woodbridge. There R only 2 awesome restaurants in Woodbridge & Sushi Bae is one. The hibachi meals R delicious! We've had the chicken, steak & shrimp meals & all R done well, with lots of flavor. The sushi menu is a dream! I have never seen such a huge selection before! The vegetarian sushi rolls R phenomenal! The sweet potato tempera sushi is just dreamy! Crunchy, crispy, soft & chewy texture & sweet! Add a splash of soy sauce, some ginger & wasabi & POW! Major taste sensation exploding in UR mouth! Very nice staff. Our server was nice & attentive. Even funny. It's a family owned biz, so everyone works hard to please guests. As for the ambiance... They need to polish the sound system. Like, maybe employ a real one... The nite we ate in, there was just a radio blasting from the back kitchen... No real stereo system. The music was OK... Older rock songs... But, it gave a cheap feel to the place. Not a great thing when UR spending over $100 for dinner. I recommend giving Sushi Bae a whirl! When we moved to VA two years ago we thought this place was awesome. Last night not so great. The sushi was great BUT we ordered what the waitress suggested, after telling her we were gluten free. What did she suggest? Something with tempura lobster. I think it was called The World's End. I didn't have my glasses on so I couldn't read the very small print on the sushi menu. Hopefully it was made with rice flour. I'm getting allergy tested next week. I ate it thinking if it is in my system the test will pick it up. We brought our own gluten free soy sauce and asked the waitress to have the kitchen use it in our meal. It never left our table. Go figure. Maybe they don't cook with soy sauce? My husband ordered the Mango Shrimp which was cold. I ordered the Grilled Cod. It tasted a little like cod but was very fishy and flat, more like flounder. It was very overcooked whatever it was. We were in one of those eat to live situations. If the waitress had not been so sweet I would have sent my dinner back. Instead I endured it. To be honest, this was the first time I ordered anything other than hibachi, which was always very good. The place is looking beat, there were two different strains of music in the air, one probably from the kitchen and the other from the bar. Blinking Christmas lights at the sushi bar have to go. Moved here from San Diego in May and drove by this place many times. We were kinda turned off by the name Sushi Bae. We opted it for many other places many much more expensive and we're very disappointed. We finally decided to drive over and give it a try because what did we have to lose? Sushi Bae definitely going to be our go-to from now on. It was the closest thing to the traditional sushi that we found in San Diego and love so much. The actual restaurant itself is very nice. I like the very laid-back decor. The service was great and all of our items came out quickly and my husband and I really enjoyed everything that we ordered. Sooo i have had my fair share of sushi. I also happen to be in a relationship with a sushi chef. Haha i'm no snob, i dont expect the highest quality of sushi, i NEVER complain about the food even if i don't enjoy it. I never expect a discount, or even send food back. My boyfriend ordered a sashimi deluxe, and i got À la carte nigiri. 1 fatty tuna, 2 salmon, 1 white tuna, and 2 yellow tail. Basics. The nice server came back to tell me that there was no more fatty tuna, so i got regular tuna instead. When it got to the table immediately we looked up at each other and whispered "frozen" the color of the fish was off,The rice:fish ratio was off. We began to eat usual. I flipped one over to look at the rice and it was really sticky. Like, too sticky. I tasted the rice and it was extremely sweet. Way too much rice vinegar. I ate a whole piece and all i could experience was the sweet rice and bland fish (yellow tail). I tasted the fish (yellow tail) by itself and it was so bland and it was obviously frozen. I only finished 4 pieces and couldnt take it anymore. I peeled off the tuna and took a bite, and removed it from my mouth. It tasted like what the seafood section an asian super market smelled like. Horrendous. I look over at his plate, and they gave him a crabstick as one of the options of his sashimi. What? He gave me one of his salmon pieces, and i found a pin bone... A PIN BONE LOLLLLL how are you gonna get you fish frozen and find a pin bone. It wouldnt even separate from the fish because it had been frozen. Pin bones usually come out clean. I've honestly never had such bad sushi. Not gonna lie i'd rather have wegman's sushi. We asked for the check, paid $50 left a tip and then brought it up to the server. He apologized and we assured him that it wasnt his fault at all! We just wanted him to bring it up to the chef. Probably won't be back. read more

I am pregnant and told the guy on the phone that I am pregnant and need cooked sushi. If you're looking for a quick sushi fix, I believe this place might work. Their staff was incredibly attentive, quick and the place was VERY clean. The sushi however wasn't for me. I felt that the rolls were incredibly small and that wasn't an issue until I realized how much we would actually be spending. I did not feel full or satisfied however I didn't feel as if this was a place other people should be turned off to because of my own personal preference. I ordered take out last night and it took 2 hours for them to prepare our order. They did not have it ready for us when we arrived and told us it would be a few minutes. People that had come in after us had their entire meal and paid for their bill before we got our order. It makes me sad because their food is completely amazing, but their service is terrible! And on top of everything else, they tried to bill me twice for the same order! I was forced to prove that I had already paid. Ridiculous!!! I DON'T LIKE writing this, as I had high hopes for a local (less than a mile from home) sushi joint to adopt for my occasional binges. I am disappointed enough to cry, angry enough to spit. Worst sushi/sashimi I have EVER had...and as an Old Asia sailor, that is saying a lot. I actually left 3/4 's of my own solo $56 dinner order on the counter of the sushi bar. I don't know WHERE others have eaten that exclaim about the sushi here, unless they are overwhelmed by the "art" that makes up for the lack of variety. One look in the "Chef's" sushi bar display revealed three or four varieties of fish. I thought, "certainly, he must have more out of sight...", but no. Apparently, "yum-yum" sauce is supposed to make up for the sparse offerings, for it is LITERALLY on EVERYTHING. I should have recognized the first warning shot when the seaweed salad---a regular favorite appetizer---came drenched in that god-awful pink-orange "yum-yum" sauce. For those of you who might not know, "yum-yum" sauce is that orange mayo/"secret sauce" crap little kids ask for in Japanese steakhouses to hide the flavor of their food. Who the hell puts THAT on SEAWEED? Oh, but I was just getting my introduction to SUSHI BAE's love affair with that stuff.... I had ordered the "Ariang special" ("Ariang" is the name left over from the failed "Japanese" steakhouse that used to occupy this spot). It's their sushi/sashimi combo. It was a mere 3 types of fish ...salmon, tuna, yellowtail...with one 4rth item...a mangled, single bit of SMOKED salmon thrown in as some kind of insulting exclamation point (If I wanted a nasty, mangled slice of smoked salmon, I would have bought some at the Food Lion next door). I almost didn't recognize what it WAS. Not the worst part: the rice was a sweet, mushy, nearly translucent paste. Sushi rice is supposed to be slightly firm and warm and a touch vinegary (just a teeny touch)... not a cold, mashed-up, sugary, gummy paste. AND YUM-YUM SAUCE. Dribbled all over the Nigiri and the little forlorn collection of "California roll".... I gave up eating this after about 3 pieces. I was aghast. The sashimi was the same 3 fish. I noticed a definite "fishy" smell to the tuna...noticeable perhaps because there wasn't any $%&@! yum-yum sauce on it. I ordered a salmon skin roll, which I normally LOVE. It's usually made with crisp, crunchy smoked salmon skin surrounded by fresh, firm rice and wrapped in seaweed. THIS thing was a also nasty !*$^# mess. All of the rice was the same gooey, sugary gunk. The salmon skin was chewy and barely discernible mixed with soggy cucumber bits. It reminded me of a mushy, sweet, seaweed-wrapped rice triangle "onigiri"-like thing that old-fashioned Japanese samurai-type parents give their kids instead of candy. Of course, it came with ...you guessed it...it's own puddle of "yum-yum" sauce. The whole meal was GROSS. ANY SELF-RESPECTING SUSHI CHEF WOULD HAVE BEEN DEEPLY ASHAMED. It's all about the FISH. It's ALL about the RICE. Flashy squirts of drizzled goo and yum-yum do not make sushi. Reading other reviews, I can't help but wonder if someone was playing some kind of joke. This really sucked. I have been known to drop a hundred bucks eating sushi... I am REALLY disappointed. I have been eyeing this place for months for a night to myself, so I could check it out and later bring my boys---who also love sushi--- for special nights. I have very little $$ for dining out, but dropping a good chunk of cash for good sushi is part of what I enjoy in life. I walked into this place at 7:00 PM on a Sunday night, expecting to enjoy myself over sushi,a few bottles of Kirin beer, a bottle of hot sake and a good book for at least an hour and a half, maybe two. I was OUT of there in 30 minutes. I EVEN LEFT MY FIRST BEER HALF FINISHED. Let that sink in... an old US NAVY sailor with a very few dollars in his pocket ...left a half-full 22 ounce beer and half flask of sake on the counter. THAT'S how bad I wanted out of there. The gruff teenager who took my order and did little else didn't show any promise for an attempt at resolving my dissatisfaction, so I just left cash on the bar and walked out. This place is either for people who DON'T KNOW sushi or who will pour Diet Coke in a glass of 100-year-old Scotch. As I have said before, I'm not happy about writing this...but the sooner this place is gone the better. Late edit: When I informed my sons about my experience, my youngest...at 14 years old, a great fan of good sushi... told me, "I could have told you it was bad, Dad. I loved this place last year.. But since my first great experience, the service/staff have been on a downward spiral. The lunch prices were a steal and the sushi was delicious! But now, the place is hardly open for lunch, they are changing the restaurant hours every week, the hibachi grills in the back are never/ and never will be open, and the service is just terrible. Do not bring a large group, it is a smaller restaurant because the unused grills take up half the place. ********If you decide to go- get there an hour after they "open." They are constantly late. I have been to Ariang a few times. Their sushi is always fresh, and they have a huge selection. The place is sparkling clean and the staff is very attentive. The front of the restaurant caters to sushi mostly with a small sushi bar and a few tables. The tables up front are quite close together (my only negative on this place), it's a fairly small eating area. The steak house resides in the back area. I have eaten in that part once, and would say it's on par with any other good Japanese steak house. It's always on my list for a nice place to eat, but it's more for a special night out then a regular place to eat. read more
