There aren't too many Omakase places in LA so I'm glad I got to try Sushi Bar in Hermosa Beach when they are still in pop-up stage. They are inside Martha's now and do a 5:30 and 7:45 dinner service. The place only seats 12-13 people and while it's Omakase, they do have a framework to the 16 pieces of sushi that you will be presented with. There is also a dessert course to make it 17. It's all delicious and I tried my best with the names of each piece of sushi. The sake sampler is also REAL good and recommended. If you don't want the sampler but want sake with dinner, get the sparkling sake in the blue bottle. I can drink it like it's water... I was told that they have found a more permanent location in Hermosa Beach. Just a 9-iron away from Martha's so keep an eye out for the official announcement. Check out my pics

I was so excited to learn about this pop up omakase experience in the South Bay. While the reservation was tough to get, it was well worth the wait! 17 courses of the most delicious sushi creations with each course being surprisingly better than the last - my favorite dish quickly became my last bite - again and again ... I can't say enough about the amazing food and service. Thank you, chefs! I can't wait to join you again when you open your brick and mortar restaurant in the area!

    17 courses + desert prix-fixe menu.

He was super helpful and made it super easy to plan my husbands birthday; from reserving the best table and set it up on time, making sure the bouncer had the guest list ensuring we were taken care of. Mia, our server, was fantastic too! The band and DJ were awesome, and we had a blast dancing all night. Several of our friends had never been here before, and now they know why this is such a great spot! Can't wait to come back - highly recommend!

If you are looking for a restaurant with a large menu, you will be disappointed. Sure, portions of La La Land were filmed here, and they have some movie memorabilia in the back of the place but they offer far more than jazz here, if that is your impression. There is rock, reggae, salsa, lots of tribute bands, and other stuff. While this may have once been purely a jazz club, I am certain the market simply won't carry (most) strictly jazz places for very long. Based on one photo I saw on the wall, this place has been around for about 76 years. That is impressive. For jazz aficionados, they offer a three hour Sunday jazz brunch (and this is the only time when folks under 21 can enter, by the way). For brunch, there are only four food items available on the menu: a breakfast burrito, avocado toast, one pancake (singular, not plural) and bacon, sausage, and eggs. Remember, you are here for the music, not the food. As for the food, my breakfast burrito was interesting. Knowing restaurants in California, it was probably cooked by a Latino gentleman but this looked like th emost Caucasian burrito of all time. It had chorizo, eggs, potatoes, and other stuff in it, and the tortilla had a nice cheesy skirt on it. It was also on the spicier side, which I enjoyed, but fair warning. I wasn't sure I was going to like it by its looks but I ate the whole thing. It was also a belly bomb and kept me satisfied for about 6 or 7 hours afterward. The avocado toast was actually very good and made with good quality bread. I thought the music was excellent. The members of the band (the John Kithcart Quartert) played their assess off and really seemed to enjoy themselves. True jazz (not that soft elevator music gunk) was popular at one time but let's face it, it is not popular anymore. Jazz certainly can be enjoyed as background music while you enjoy your one pancake but it is certainly not intended to be enjoyed that way. To fully appreciate it, you have to pay attention to it. That doesn't seem too much of an ask. After all, it is the folks on the stage who are doing the hard work. Our server was very good. She was friendly and attentive. My only experience here is with the Sunday jazz brunch so I cannot speak for the venue at any other times. At least for the Sunday brunch, whether you like jazz or not, this place is well worth a try.

The performance was in the larger room. The comics really connected with the audience because they had a bit more time to share their various experiences. The meal was delightful as it always has been. The service excellent. We met MIKE one of the founders of the club in the parking lot earlier in the evening, I had forgotten my tickets at home and couldn't find them on my phone. MIKE made sure that the front receptionist would accommodate us. It was wonderful. At the conclusion of the evening as we were driving home, my phone rang. It was the comedy club calling to let us know that one in my party had left her sweater on the chair. Did we want to come back to get it? We told them to just give it to someone who needed it because we were about to get on the freeway at that point. What a wonderful surprise that they took the care and initiative to figure out who was sitting at that table and to reach out to us, that's service ! I recommend this comedy club wholeheartedly. You'll have a great time and a great meal at an affordable rate. It's one of the best things going on the coast. Enjoy! Laugh!! Have fun. And do take the time to examine the wonderful collection of Hollywood memorabilia and comics' costumes that are on display. It's a special little museum its own right.

There seemed to be a serving difference vibe between the locals and those of us who weren't, including strength of the drinks. The floor in front of the stage is deadly, and while there is a stripe of carpet that maybe is supposed to make people aware of the crazy drop, it's dark and people don't know why it's like that and many just kept tripping and falling. I swear it's a lawsuit in the making. The metal ring game would be amusing if it hadn't been for some drunk guys at the table next to us thinking it might be fun to continuously toss it in our direction. I don't see any reason to go back.

We usually go to Fox and Hounds, but didn't have enough time to make the drive. I did a little research and realized there was a City supporters group meeting at The Slip Bar & Eatery, so we decided to check it out. Nothing beats the fresh ocean breeze, a brew, and football . We were the first ones there and were a bit concerned the doors weren't open yet, but the friendly hostess reassured us they'd be opening shortly. While we waited, City supporters started rolling in--and to my friend's delight, Arsenal fans showed up too, which made for an even better atmosphere. Once they opened, we were greeted warmly by the owner himself. We grabbed great seats right in front of the big screen, and from there everything just got better. The service was excellent, the owner and hostess kept checking in to make sure we were good the entire time. Drinks were on point too. We enjoyed a delicious Irish Coffee, a refreshing Moscow Mule, and some ice-cold beers. The ambiance was electric, everyone locked into the match, and every time City scored, the whole bar erupted. All in all, it was an awesome experience. Honestly, I'm even considering joining the City supporters group after this. I'll definitely be coming back to watch more Man City games here and to enjoy the ocean view from the open windows. Highly recommend this spot to any sports fan or anyone who just wants to kick back by the beach with a great vibe.
