We ordered the Moriawase dinner set and chicken karaage. Everything was perfection. Even the complimentary soup and salad were just a notch better than other spots. You can taste the difference in the freshness and quality of the food. If you got a craving for Japanese, this place doesn't disappoint! They pay attention to the detail, from the kawaii decor to the cutlery and sauce plate. The vibe is more on the quiet and peaceful side. So a great place to carry on conversations with a small group.

Aburi sushi

Was walking in the Leaside area around 11:30am and was looking to get some food at a neighbouring restaurant. That restaurant was closed Monday's and Tuesday's and saw Sushi by K. Did a quick Yelp review read and decided to go in and try this restaurant for lunch. They had a bunch of chef sushi lunch combo specials as well as chef kitchen lunch combos. I ordered the Aburi sushi lunch combo special and my husband ordered the teriyaki salmon lunch combo. Let me roll it back to upon entering the restaurant, the posted hours of operation at the store showed it was opened, while google and Yelp was showing it closed, I suggested an edit and will see when it will be updated. Once we entered the restaurant we were greeted by our server who allowed us to choose any table we liked. We chose the table by the window. She asked us for our drinks order, and we decided to have the standard green tea offering which was gratis. We were neatly presented with the menus and went on to decide our above orders. We also added a order of gyoza and a order of the tempura shrimp on the side. A short wait and we were both presented with our green salad and miso soup. The salad was very fresh with a generous amount of mixed greens and Japanese orange salad dressing. I really enjoyed the salad for the freshness with crisp greens. The miso soup was presented in the usual black plastic miso soup containers with the lid. Upon opening, the miso was still perfectly suspended below the surface of the soup which was great! The soup tasted good and was what one would expect from a Japanese restaurant. Now came my Aburi sushi plate which had a good variety of sushi's and torched salmon on the one side. It was delicious! The tempura shrimp was presented nicely, and tasted good. My wife thought maybe there was a bit too much tempura batter but I was fine with it. Gyoza was served hot nicely deep fried and had a nice beef filling inside. A choice of beef or vegetable filling is available for the gyoza's. My wife ordered the salmon teriyaki lunch combo and she enjoyed the moistness of the salmon on a bed of cabbage with the teriyaki sauce. Thank you very much for a very wonderful lunch, we will be returning! Highly recommend this restaurant for a affordable lunch with high quality ingredients that's crafted with care.

Hotate oshi

(Note: review is for delivery) Ohhhhhhh this could have been so good. And maybe it really is, but got done in because I experienced Sushi By K through delivery on a cold day. But what I thought would be amazing was just ok. I got the sashimi dinner and hotate oshi. Portion size was good, the variety was good, the premium-ness of the sashimi they chose was there. The big BUT was because some of the sashimi was unevenly cold. Not to freezer-burn degrees, but enough that it compromised the freshness and quality of the sashimi. And was a bit of a letdown for the price point. Too bad. Maybe when things open up I'll give it another try. Because the potential is definitely there. Till next time!

Packaging for to-go

I ordered this on uber eats so its a to-go order but even considering that, the presentation was amazing. This was a treat-yoself dinner after a horrible work day and I got the treat of my life. The thickness of the cuts were so worth it. The taste was so fresh. I can't wait to visit the restaurant in person!

64 piece maki platter

We were looking to try a new sushi spot closer to home and found Sushi by K. Ordered the 64 piece maki platter for takeout. The platter came with california, salmon avocado, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, sweet potato, avocado, and dynamite rolls. They also threw in two packs of green tea with our order. At first glance, the presentation of the platter could be improved, as some pieces of sushi were not cut evenly. The rolls were on the smaller side but it tasted fresh. Overall decent sushi at a fair price.

Excellent food and great prices! The staff was very friendly and service was quick! I didn't dine in but the atmosphere inside is nice as well. :)

Soup and salad with salmon teriyaki dinner

This is a brand new sushi restaurant at corner of Eglinton and Laird right beside Starbucks. It takes the location of the old Brunch Story cafe. Nice rustic interior. Came to try on a Saturday night at 7 pm and they already been through a few tables of diners. Service was friendly. They are still getting used to the new business I think. The menu has a good selection of a la carte sushi, sushi and sashimi combos and rolls. The menu has Korean influence. No liquor license yet. We ordered the sashimi dinner, salmon teriyaki dinner, spicy scallop roll, sunrise roll and jackpot roll. The rolls started coming out quickly. They forgot to put in the order for sashimi dinner. But by then all the items had arrived and we had enough food and cancelled the sashimi dinner. Portions are big. Liked the salmon teriyaki entree but there was too much sauce for this. Rolls were great. Everything was presented beautifully. Would've liked to try the sashimi here and wished they explained there was an udon combo which was only written on the sign facing the street. The server gave us free ice cream to make up for the missing order which was nice. They were very apologetic. They had a few kinks but food was great and we liked the restaurant setting. There's potential. Would like to see more specials and seasonal offerings. We would come back again. No take out menu yet available. Overall good sushi restaurant and nice addition to the restaurants in the area

The nigiri was decent on both deliveries with the rolls being a tad above average. I was tempted to order a bowl but wanted a more filling option. With my go to spot for sushi delivery not showing any signs of revival. This might fill the void for now. 3.5 stars

You can really tell there's a lot of care behind every course. What stood out to me most was how calm and focused the whole experience felt--it made it easy to slow down and actually enjoy each bite. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I want something a little more special.

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends. It's not overly traditional, but it's easygoing, shareable, and comfortable.. the kind of place you'd come back to when you just want good food and a relaxed atmosphere.
