We were here back in April. Were looking for a place where we could get poke bowls, but ended up ordering sushi rolls instead. My husband liked the Udon soup, which he'd never had before. We were very satisfied with the freshness and the flavor of the three rolls we ordered: Cheesy Dragon, El Dorado, and Beverly Hills. The staff was also friendly. We're not in this area often, but would be happy to stop in again if the opportunity arose. read more

I've been going here since 2008 (when they were next to Voertmans)and haven't tried much more than their rolls and miso soup. That being said the California Roll is BY FAR the best California Roll I've ever had....I know California Rolls aren't "sushi sushi," but they hook it up with larger sized rolls than most restaurants and have set the standard for me. also, in comparison all other California rolls look and taste like they are from the grocery store. read more

This place was sooo amazing! Such a pleasant lunch. I've been craving sushi lately and decided to get my fix. I am a UNT student and walked from the union here it took about 5 minutes! I sat down and my extremely friendly and helpful server, Cat- or Kat- recommend me a few rolls upon request. I got the In & Out Crunch Roll which was fantastic. There's nothing wrong with looking like a little hole in the wall when everything else goes right. Unfortunately, it didn't. Our waiter, bless his heart, seemed new and very inexperienced. (He was very nice and we still tipped well) He left off part of our order. He was unfamiliar with the menu items. The menu is very unclear. There are multiple items that show the same description with different names and different prices One of our rolls didn't say on the menu that it had a sauce--that had to go back. The fried veggie roll seemed to only have little crispy onions in it We had gone bc we saw a review that said it had good vegan options so that was one of the things we wanted for our vegan. Again, the menu didn't specify what was in it and the vegan doesn't even like onions so that was a bummer. The fried tofu was sad, too. I had 2 other rolls that were pretty good, but that's about all I can say here. To improve this business I'd start by updating the menu to be more specific and then I'd add a few truly vegan friendly options. There's potential! read more

I have a couple of things to say... The tea and miss soup were very good. I was quite pleased with them. The shrimp tempura roll was lacking on the avocado but was otherwise pleasant to eat. The California roll however was incredibly tasteless, a result of not using fresh products. I would expect this place to be busy based on it's location in relation to the school so there should be enough influx of money to purchase at least acceptable ingredients. When you walk in you seat yourself and they bring you a menu. I came here at at 11:05am and it wasn't busy. I got the spicy noodles and it comes with four California rolls. The noodles are really spicy but I can handle the heat. Since it was not busy I was able to get fast service. I like the food here and it's not expensive. read more

We stopped by around 5 pm. The waitress let us sit for over fifteen minutes without coming to the table (maybe 6 guests total in the whole restaurant). I ordered chirashi and the pieces of fish were frozen.... So frozen my teeth crunched the icy center. My husband got the pork, and the pork arrived in a commercial BBQ sauce with frozen peas and carrots. It took another 10 minutes to get her to our table to refill our water. I had dinner at "Sushi Cafe" the other day and it is was one of the WORST dining experiences that I've ever had. I ordered several of their rolls such as the Rainbow Roll and the Dragon Roll and the fish was definitely NOT fresh. It tasted like it had been sitting out for at least a week. When I sent it back, the waitress was extremely unaccommodating and was NOT helpful even remotely. Eventually, they gave me a new roll that was equally BAD. Not only was the fish not fresh but the rice was also not properly cooked. Seeing as the two main ingredients in sushi are fish and rice one would think that the chef at "Sushi Cafe" would learn how to prepare at least one of the two. In the case of "Sushi Cafe," their chef had no idea of how to prepare either one. In conclusion, NEVER dine at this restaurant. read more

I've been here twice, both times I had the same problem. The first time my friend and I stopped in, ordered a coke and a water. We were one of two customers so we didn't think it'd take very long. We waited an absurd length of time to get our drinks. He drank his coke and we left figuring that if it took that long for drinks, that food would take an eternity. I went back today with another friend, thinking last time had been a fluke. We sat down and each ordered water. This time, out of curiosity I started my stopwatch. We waited a literal 10 minutes, the water never arrived, and our waiter never came by to apologize for the wait. The waiter did however make it to several others tables. Not worth the price. Every plate is at least $10, which would be okay if the food was actually good. I ordered the chicken teriyaki. The chicken was ok, a bit hard to chew through and didn't have much flavor. The veggies were warm but also tasted as if they've been sitting in the freezer since forever. It took awhile for the food to come out, I normally wouldn't be bothered by it but we were literally the only people in there. The interior is ok, looks run down, but it wasn't completely terrible. I love this place. We live in Dallas but still travel all the way to Denton to visit Sushi Cafe over and over. I'm a vegetarian and I have about 4 or 5 rolls that are absolutely delicious. We've gone here since college and even though we've moved an hour away, we still make the trip out every few months because it's so good. We don't eat meat (or fish) and they have an unmatched selection of delicious vegetarian sushi.
