Went by for some late night sushi. Tomo for 1 was terrific. These guys never disappoint.

This place is new to me and was a treat. The place is small but not tiny. The service was really good but not too consuming. I really enjoyed the selections chosen. The nigiri was fresh tasting and cut generally without being too thick. The roll was also good. The rice is the heart and soul of sushi, with that said, it was not bad but could be improved. I'm definitely returning.

Absolutely amazing. This has quickly become one of our favorite local spots. We have been several times and we have not ever been disappointed. Some of the best sushi creations in town. If you are a sushi fan, you need to try this spot! Friendly staff and always make us feel very welcome.

When Flower Mound welcomed yet another sushi restaurant into the fold I just knew they were going to be top notch. After all, it's risky business to open any restaurant in this town, much less a sushi place with competitors like Tsunami and Nori in the vicinity. So, they really have to be exceptional in order to survive. The dimly lit interior is cozy, and stylish. Plus, it's small enough so that it probably wouldn't even accommodate enough people to make it very noisy. The combination of 4 people who all have different preferences, and the fact that we were all famished, resulted in us ordering a substantial amount of food and a variety dishes. From the appetizers to the rolls, everything was beautifully and expertly crafted creating vibrant, unique flavors and textures. The salmon in particular was buttery soft and absolutely delectable. We were impressed by the quality and freshness of all the seafood actually. Not surprisingly, we made short work of cleaning each and every plate. My only complaint was that the food took a really long time to be prepared even though they had very few customers besides us. Our rolls sort of trickled out with such long waits in between each one that I started to wonder if they had been leaving to go catch the fish! I'm not placing any blame whatsoever on the server because I could tell that she was delivering our dishes as quickly as possible. But, if the the food had come out in a more timely manner, this would easily have been a 5 star experience. It's BYOB for now, although I'm not sure if they ever plan to offer alcohol. If you do arrive empty handed and want a drink, I would recommend stopping by Flurry's Market a few doors down to pick up some wine or a daiquiri to bring back here.

I would consider sushi one of my absolute favorite foods in the world so the soft-opening of this location in Flower Mound was eagerly anticipated. We went in on a Saturday evening, again soft-opening and were pleasantly surprised to see a few of our friends there as well. I also went there for lunch with work friends. Everything is new and nice of course, and the feel of the place is comforting. The staff is happy to see you and are very helpful in both selections and service. Basic blocking and tackling here when it comes to a sushi and grill place. Was informed that the place is Korean-owned after I asked about several traditional Korean style dishes on the menu (Bulgogi for example). However the selection is large and I think that it's a place where you can find something for everyone as they offer numerous appetizers, rolls, bento boxes, rice-less options, and nigiri/sashimi. Granted it's a soft-opening so I hope these comments are helpful, but here's what I observed at least this night and lunch a couple days later. Food was slow coming out but decent flavor. Atmosphere seems like a very fun place where it could be a family dinner or nice enough and spaced out enough for a romantic date. Love the wicker chairs at the entrance, so comfy. My work friends could talk about business during lunch so works for that too. For now I'd say the bento boxes are a good start for beginners as you can sample a lot of different flavors for a decent price. (Mostly around $15). The sushi does have a more common feel to it, and by that i mean it's the usual staple of rolls and nigiri that you might expect. Don't get me started on the direction sushi is going because all those sauces and mayonnaises, etc make me cringe. But I understand it creates a wider audience. This place has plenty of them. I didn't really notice any great creativity, and quite frankly was disappointed in a couple of the sushi cuts that came out for rolls we ordered. The fish is pretty average, it's not that high level sushi grade but with most at $5-$6 it fits most people's budgets and seems a fair deal as you're getting the level of fish you're paying for. Compliments as they did do ama ebi fried heads for us and my 12-year-old tried it for the first time after a drama-filled attempt at resistance.....LOL..but she agreed it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. The ikura, well it had that soaked flavor so it didn't seem as it was just served so I appreciate that. But it didn't make me want to order another one immediately. The rice had perhaps a hint of that all-important vinegar flavor, but wasn't at a premium level. Soft opening taken into account, I can at best say this place is average sushi and creativity. Staff is super friendly with great personalities and open to feedback which I think is great. And for certain I'm tough on sushi places cause it's one of my absolute favorite foods. But I think I am quite objective when I say this place is all about being average at a decent price-point and not much more at this stage. Aside from the ama ebi, other notable dishes to try are the ahi tower; the green tea mochi dessert with whip cream and coconut flakes and nuts; the sake tower; sushi and sashimi bento.

Overall had a pleasant experience here. The sushi was really good. I also got the udon which was very flavorful and the noodles were very soft. The miso soup was great. The atmosphere is very calming and they play jazz music which almost made me want to fall asleep. The waitresses were very sweet. I would come back if I were in the mood. Also, found a hair in my soup that's not mine (not my hair color)

We were greeted by the hostess, and nice waitress took our order & brought me this Bento Box that was YUMMERS!

As we entered the hostess greeted us, and our friendly waitress took our order and first she brought me hot green tea, then the Miso Soup and then this delicious Bento Box ($17) YUMMERS! Grateful!

Spring Rolls - so good and crispy!

Overall had a great experience here! Loved our apps which were spring rolls, dumplings and edamame. Then we got some sashimi, nigiri and a couple rolls. This could be personal preference but I prefer to have sashimi and nigiri at least slightly dressed. So a bit of sauce or something -- also the sashimi was sliced quite thick, and while I appreciate all the fish, that thickness makes the taste and feeling of raw fish very apparent. I do love that it's BYOB though and I would definitely go back and maybe just make a few additional requests!

We tried Tomo Sushi for the first time when they had a deal (free California roll w/purchase). We were so glad we tried this place! We ordered the Better Together Roll and a Spicy California Roll... and were too full to order more. I enjoyed watching them make the sushi when I walked up to the bar area. They are also BYOB! The service was VERY attentive, nice atmosphere inside the restaurant, and the food was DELICIOUS. Best sushi we've tasted in Flower Mound. We will definitely be back!

I ordered it with the chicken and just requested that they didn't do the teriyaki (since it was not gluten free) and just had them cook it normally and it was delicious. I will say that the soup and salad that you get at the beginning of the meal required some modifications. No dressing on the salad (it contained gluten) along with the soup being changed to just broth because the miso came with noodles in it. Overall the staff was so kind and patient with my questions and needs.

A Birthday Celebration, Shopping, and Some Delicious Japanese Food!…read more Since it was my daughter's birthday, we thought, why not make a day of it? We decided to do some shopping and then grab some lunch. After getting all that shopping behind us, we headed over to Sushi Zen Japanese Bistro. As soon as we walked in, we were promptly greeted by Mr. Jay, who also happened to be our server. The Bistro itself was very elegant, quiet, clean, and well organized. Definitely a nice place to sit down, relax, and get our grub on! Mr. Jay was a very quiet young man, but extremely welcoming and polite. He promptly brought us our menus and glasses of water and gave us plenty of time to look everything over without feeling rushed. When he returned, I ordered the Yaki Soba Noodles Lunch for $5.95. My Yaki Soba came with chicken, beef, and a mix of vegetables, and let me tell you, it was delicious! It was well seasoned, full of flavor, and definitely hit the spot. My daughter ordered the Chicken Cutlet (Deep-Fried) Bento Box for $9.95, along with a Miso Soup for $1.95. Her bento box included steamed white rice, sushi rolls, gyoza, and a salad. Now, since I don't eat anything seafood-related, I had to take her word for it, but she said her meal was really delicious and well seasoned. She especially loved the salad and said it was outstanding. My wife ordered the Shrimp Tempura Bento Box for $11.95, which also came with steamed white rice, sushi, gyoza, and that same delicious salad, along with a Miso Soup for $1.95. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. All three of us enjoyed our lunch, and the service from Mr. Jay was excellent. The food was flavorful, the Bistro was clean and inviting, and the prices were very reasonable. What started as a birthday shopping trip turned into a delicious lunch, and that's always a win in my book! Everything was truly outstanding, and I will definitely return again. Thank you, Mr. Jay, for helping make my daughter's birthday lunch a wonderful experience. We hope to see you there!

Refreshing Surprise - Passion & Care…read more I was down the street getting a haircut and had a craving for sushi, so I opened Yelp, spotted Kanzi, and decided to swing by. I'm so glad I did. Kanzi is one of those refreshing surprises: an approachable neighborhood sushi spot that clearly cares about the details. They may not be trying to be an ultra high-end omakase destination with otoro and uni, but what they do offer, they execute with care, precision, and pride. The fish was clearly well stored and well cared for, and the cuts were clean and thoughtful. I tried the red snapper, eel, mackerel, yellowtail, masago, super white tuna with fresh wasabi, and one roll: the no-rice Cool Hawaiian. I'll post a few pictures as well because the presentation really deserves it. I sat at the bar and had the chance to talk with Hong, the chef preparing my food. I learned that he took over the restaurant from his brother and still visits sushi restaurants around DFW at least twice a week to keep learning, tasting, and improving his own craft. That told me everything I needed to know. There is real passion here. Hong believes the details matter, from a clean bathroom to the right Japanese knife, specially purchased for left-handed use. That kind of care shows up in the food and in the overall experience. Go visit Kanzi, sit at the bar if you can, and tell Hong that Tait says hello -- and thank you. Pro Tip: Kanzi is currently BYOB. There is a liquor store right across the parking lot, literally within about 50 feet. Walk in, head to the cooler on the far right, grab a cold bottle of sake, and bring it back with you. Kanzi has sake cups ready to go, which makes the whole experience even better.
