A go-to lunch spot for years! Never disappointed when we come here. Staff are super friendly, attentive and accommodating. Especially Elaine, who's the best and our most favorite server. A moderately priced casual Japanese restaurant that serves delicious food. We often go for the lunch bento which comes with soup, salad, California rolls and your choice of two item protein. The sashimi is fresh and good slice portion. We rolled out of there each time full and satisfied. read more

Came here to grab a quick Nigiri and a roll. Waited 40 min before getting getting spicy edamame, which somehow had a burnt taste to it. An additional 10 min later, we got the rest of our order and they gave me masago instead of maguro and the gave me attitude when I said my order was wrong. Taking over 50 min for uncooked dishes was unacceptable. Won't be back to this location. I'll stick to the one on Freeport. Still haven't been disappointed with the service over there. read more

Bento boxes have a good variety of food and also available during lunch and dinner. Decent prices (starting 12.95), comes with 2 sides, if you want 2 sides that is steak, salmon, sashimi, or nigiri, it is additional $1.50 each for item. Service was fast, seated right away. I enjoy coming to this place for lunch. The bento boxes are delicious and reasonably priced, with some vegetables mixed in. Most recently I ordered a bento with NY steak and Sushi Nigiri. It comes with cucumbers and Miso soup while you wait. The bento box includes rice, salad, and a couple of pieces of California roll. You can get a lot of food for under $20. The service is excellent and the seating comfortable, they get a pretty good lunch crowd, but I always seem to find an open parking space. The sushi is not high end or high priced, if you want that, Kru is about 200 feet away. read more

Another day at my favorite sushi spot!! Saturday night sat at the bar and had super quick service and got to watch our sushi be made. I always get the salmon nigiri and double salmon roll but we tried the veggie roll #1 and it was incredible! Great flavor and a nice little crunk of the yam tempura. read more

This is my absolute favorite sushi restaurant in the area. Very fair pricing and great quality food. The service is very kind and attentive. This is a great place for a little date or a family meal. I was picking up my sister from the airport around dinner time. We decided to go get Japanese. We went to the one located by Alhambra blvd. Place was crowded but we were able to get a table pretty quick since we just beat the rush. I got a bento with spicy chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura. I also got a paradise roll. The food looked great and Both tasted great. This is one of the few place to offer spicy teriyaki sauce. I add sriracha to teriyaki bowls at other places, so this wasn't too much of change for me. I think I like this location better then their Freeport blvd place. read more

Stopped in to Sushi Cafe after learning the wait for Kru was 2 hours. We sat inside where physical distancing was enforced and staff all wore masks. We ordered a gyoza, pepper fin and 4 rolls. They were good. Nothing knocked our socks off. We were happy to not have to wait to be seated but Service and Food was good. Atmosphere was good. read more

Our experience is limited to the lunch bento special, but we were very pleased with the quantity and quality of food we got! My husband and I both ordered the lunch bento special to go. I got pork katsu with hamachi sushi and he got chicken katsu with nigiri. We were pleased by the portions and the crispiness of the breading of the katsu. I had high hopes for this place after reading all the positive reviews and checking out the pix. Looked spacious and comfy upon walking in... All downhill from there! Service was rushed, not friendly just matter of fact. Took over 30 minutes for us to get our food and they weren't even busy! The frost on my beer glass had melted already!! When our food finally arrived, it looked nice; however, they were tasteless, with nasty rice. I couldn't stomach another cut of roll, filled with the huge slab of cheap, mushy, flavorless rice! Glad we didn't waste our time or money ordering anything else. I see the pix of nigiri with the terrible cuts of fish, PASS!!! I wouldn't trust the freshness of sashimi from this place. Came in for a quick bite while waiting for a friend. To be honest, I wish we ate here as they had a great menu with a wide array of sushi and other dishes. I sat at the bar since it was a light bite and was gonna be out pretty quickly. Also, I've made sushi in the past and worked as a chef so I love watching the intricacy of seeing the chef prepare the roles. It didn't seem to be super busy, but with one chef behind the sushi bar and a single server, they did great. The escolar nigiri was buttery with a light char while the hamaco temaki was nicely minced with very fresh, crisp green onions. 10/10. This environment seems perfect for a date night. Will look forward to my next visit in Sacramento and hope to stop by again! read more

Sushi Cafe offers some solid bento boxes. I've dined here countless times for lunch. Usually, the sevice is good: my order is taken quickly, food arrives after a short wait, and water refills are provided without having to flag someone down. I often get the salmon teriyaki and salmon sashimi bento box. It comes with a bowl of miso soup, sunomono and green salad, rice, California rolls, and an orange slice. The quality of the fish is good as is the rice. These are the two basic standards that I look for in a sushi restaurant - if these aren't decent, I'm not likely to return. My favorite item from Sushi Cafe is their Beef Sukiyaki. I love the combination of lightly-sweetened broth with delectable slices of stir-fried beef, napa cabbage, onions, and ample clear noodles. Parking can be a hassle since they're located in a small outdoor shopping center and the number of spaces available aren't enough given the other places' patrons competing for the same parking spaces. Come earlier than 11:45 am or later than 12:30 pm for an easier time scoring a spot during weekday lunches. Otherwise, street parking is the alternative and you might need to park a few blocks away. read more

I am a frequent customer of Sushi Cafe at Freeport since it is near my home. The food is 3-4 stars (Alhambra's is a solid 4). As of Sunday, 3/31/22 I will NEVER patronize Sushi Cafe! I ordered 2 Sushi Rolls, Goyzas, and Miso Soup online. Total price $43. I had a 5 dollar coupon. I ordered online, and it went through Doordash for an option to pick it up. When I arrived to pick it up, I presented the coupon. The rude girl with the face diaper on refused it. I told her that there was no area to enter the coupon. (The coupon came from a mailer). I said it is ONLY $5!!! What the Hell!! .... I left pissed. Then when I got home, I felt even more pissed off! The 2 rolls were 4 in x 1 1/2 and the Miso soup was a quarter of a cup! I scarfed up the overpriced Goyzas because I was both hungry and pissed off! Summary: Since the COVID BS / Inflation BS ... Sushi Cafe is a TOTAL RIPOFF and the help that works there SUCK! This place got two stars because it was edible, no one got sick, and their kids menu is a pretty good value. Otherwise the fish is pretty poor quality; I think they use strong-flavored sauces on their rolls to mask the flavor of the mediocre fish. The tuna in the rolls were actually mushy instead of a firm, solid chunk. Their tempura was heavy and greasy. Like I said, edible and no one got sick, but that's about all I can say for it. The kids liked their meals but they aren't too picky. A pretty good value for $6, you get a generous helping of rice, 4 (small) California rolls, a few tempura veggies and a couple potstickers in a bento box. read more

I moved to Sacramento just couple of months ago. One of my co-worker told me about this place so me and my husband decided to visit this place on Thanksgiving weekend. This place is little hidden to the side. Staring at the menu for over 5 mins and we finally decided to order the large mix sashimi plate, a dream roll and a snow white roll. It is excellent with a fair price tag. I highly recommend the dream and snow white rolls.
