    Cafe special roll

I've been here a few times. The place is pretty popular and their prices are decent. Recently, we ordered a last minute sushi platter to celebrate our friend giving birth (it's nice they're located near the hospital). They were able to accommodate our order within 30 minutes and were super nice about it! Pros: great service and friendly staff. They typically are good on checking up on you. Sushi is fresh and I enjoyed the rolls they offer. It's a pretty casual place and great for groups. Cons: it's part of a busy business area so parking can be tricky when it's around the dining hours. The parking is limited. If you park at the meters, the parking police come by pretty regularly.

Our daughter and her husband brought us here because our grandkids like sushi!! This place is busy!! Miso soup is good but could use a bit more tofu, the tofu in the soup was SO tiny and only a few pieces. We had the edamame both traditional way with salt (though there wasn't any salt on them) and spicy with jalepenos...these were delicious! I had the grilled chicken Don bowl and it was loaded with grilled chicken, steamed broccoli and rice. The rolls we had were good but I'm not used to the California roll being made with chunks of imitation crab, it's usually shredded crab.

We had an early dinner here last friday and we love the food. Me and my friends ordered the large sushi boat and it's worth the price! The sushi is all fresh and good. I also tried their oyako don rice bowl and it didn't disappoint. Love the place and service is fast as well. Very nice people and they have a happy hour of 3:30-5:30. Will try their other menu next time.

A solid place for affordable sushi. Nothing here will blow you away but it will definitely satisfy that sushi craving and achieve this in an affordable way. I went on a Saturday morning when the restaurant was not particularly busy. The staff were attentive and polite and the sushi chefs were busy. There are a few decorations that help echo that this place is a mid-tier Japanese restaurant. The meal began with free sunomono dish. I ordered two rolls, the Paradise and the Dream and both were satisfying. I didn't expect one of them to be deep fried but it was still enjoyable. The presentation was beautiful and I had enough to take home for a snack later. The fish isn't top quality, but neither is it bottom shelf. The rolls come with a lot of sauce and dressings, as is the case for a lot of Americanized sushi places.

Sushi cafe has been a favorite lunch spot for me in Sacramento for the past 6 years. Fresh and tasty food, with good service and nice ambiance. My favorites are the Bento Box with salmon teriyaki and sushi nigiri as well as the chirashi don.

New favorite sushi joint alert! My fiancée and I finally tried this place after passing by and saying to ourselves, "we need to go there!" Well I was nearby finishing up a workout at In Shape fitness and she was about to take her lunch break and floated the idea out there to meet. I said yes with the quickness! I got there early and got us a table and drinks. The lunch crowd was winding down as it was close to 2pm. The staff here were very accommodating and kept checking to see if I was ready to order. As soon as my fiancée said she was on her way I put in a couple appetizer orders. We started off with the stuffed mushrooms and mixed tempura. The tempura was absolutely delicious! The carrots were so crispy. The broccoli was on point and the one shrimp we got with the mix was phenomenal. Loved the entire plate. The stuffed mushrooms were huge, filled with snow crab and cream cheese and drizzled with a slight tangy sauce. We devoured all of them without regret lol. We decided to split a bento box with sesame chicken and tonkatsu as the proteins. Also ordered the King roll. The sesame chicken here was done so well. It was my favorite of all the things I ate. The tonkatsu was super crispy and the tonkatsu sauce was rich with flavor. Really enjoyed my experience at this local spot. It's in the shadow of Kru which is one of the top sushi spots in the Sacramento region. Parking here can be a bit of a drag but the food makes up for the hassle!

I cannot express how impressed and happy we are with Sushi Cafe's food, and their service. We had ordered a BBQ salmon appetizer one time that came with dairy, even though we had mentioned there was a dairy allergy and Sushi Cafe was so wonderful, offered us a credit next time we came in to have it made dairy free. We just ordered (during a VERY busy Sunday evening) to pick up a to go order, and they not only were so sweet on the phone taking our order, but they remembered the dairy allergy associated with our phone number, and their service was so incredible and impressive despite being so busy. The people working inside were working so hard, doing such an amazing job and they really deserve recognition for that. I am more than happy to recommend this place to my friends, but also to personally say thank you to this restaurant for being so wonderful!

Who would have thought a Japanese eatery tucked in an inconspicuous, dinky strip mall serve such an outstanding food? Even though its Happy Hour allure was gimmicky which was advertised by a huge sign outside but only consisted of four types of drinks with no food, we gave it a try at late lunch hour to eat and rest from a road trip. Once settled in our booth, service flowed in smoothly. Server gave us pickled cucumber appetizer to showcase hospitality. It was delicious. Asked for a deep fried sushi as I am not a huge fan in traditional sushi per se but like everything deep fried. Give me a deep fried cockroach I'd probably eat it hahaha. Server recommended Paradise sushi and I took the suggestion. The Paradise sushi roll tasted absolutely divine! It contained crab meats boy that was so fresh. Crispy exterior contrasting with soft interior contents of seafood created such an unusual gastronomic experience. Everything was fresh and tasty. I enjoyed every bite, devouring it was indeed a Paradise as I almost lost myself in it. Their sushi set a high standard from that moment on for me to compare with any other Japanese restaurants follow suit. Highly recommend Paradise sushi. Husband dropped a tempura to my plate to try. It was crunchy to the nth degree. I have no idea shrimp tempura can be so phenomenal. It definitely had the WOW factor! I also tried a piece from my son's Godzilla sushi roll, deep fried with eel as MVP, it was very good as well. Dessert was delicious especially deep fried ice cream. Ordered vanilla but got green tea, I didn't contest as it was equally good or better. It was a huge ball, smooth creamy inside and crispy crunchy outside, I know it's not easy to make because of the temperature control but the chef pulled it off. Whoever's in charge of the centered open kitchen is a bona fide culinarian who has mastered the skill in Japanese cuisine. Kudos to him! Their price was very reasonable. Service was excellent. Our server was polite, kind and had this sweet cheerful energy. We asked for more cucumber appetizer and she brought us more with no charge. That was nice! She checked on us, cleaned empty dishes promptly, She was also respectful to me. I liked her service and my tip reflected that. Vibe was welcoming, warm and calm. Generally clean in a small space simply designed with Japanese prints on wall, some oriental elements and a lovely holiday decoration. It was not super tidy and the worn-out dirty menu can definitely use an upgrade. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Sushi Cafe and will return when we are in Sacra. Wholeheartedly recommend it!

This was my first visit here, my friend lives in the neighborhood otherwise I would have never found it. It's tucked into a nondescript strip mall behind OBO and Kru. It's a super cute and inviting place with fun artwork and a little sushi bar. We both had lunch bentos and wow, what a lot of food! They start with a little cucumber salad, then Miso soup and a huge box. You can pick two things from a very long list. I had hamachi sashimi and tempura. It came with salad, rice, and a couple small California roll pieces. The sashimi and the California rolls were great, as was the tempura. It was a great lunch and a good deal too. I would love to come back and have more sushi.

Very sad it took me this long to discover Sushi Cafe. This spot is an absolute gem and at reasonable prices too! The service is absolutely amazing and they have very high quality fish here. Don't sleep on this spot, check it out!!

Absolutely amazing restaurant. The food was incredibly good. We started with two rolls which were the big roll and the Freeport roll. Accompanied with a small sashimi mix. The food was so good that we almost forgot to take a picture of it since we started eating it. Super friendly staff and even though we came in nearly 10 minutes before they close they were still super happy to take our order. We did order to go although I immediately regret it since the atmosphere and ambience in the restaurant was extremely cozy and very relaxing. Highly recommend for a great night out. The food was very well priced. Staff was extremely helpful and kind and not to mention the bathrooms were impeccable. Super clean restaurant all around. They also have an outside dining area even though it was raining, the area still looked very cozy and well covered from the elements

I tried their sukiyaki set, both wagyu and seafood. I wish they had given some instructions on the approach or order I should eat the sets of food. It was a little chaotic trying to figure out how I could submerge all the ingredients in the broth so they would cook evenly. The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not. Would I go back to Azayaka again? 100%. This would not discourage me from going back there any amount.

Came here for dinner a couple of times, the first time I ordered the rainbow roll ($15) which is my barometer for sushi at restaurants. Decently sized, the fish was fresh and the roll was filling. Daughter ordered the ramen ($18) with the red option, which she enjoyed with the plethora of toppings. Dinner the second time, I got the teishoku set with salmon ($21). Two decently filets of salmon came with rice, miso soup, salad, deep fried egg roll and salad. You also get a choice of either croquette or chawanmushi. The chawanmushi was a highlight for me! I missed eating this savory custard when I used to live in Japan. Their version did not disappoint! This has spot has become a rotating staple for me and am looking forward to trying out more of their sushi rolls.

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more Would I come back? Yes, friendly service. They can accommodate their broths for vegetarians. If you can handle it, always ask for a medium spice level. Tips for first-timers: 1) Plenty of free parking 2) They accept reservations The Food: Vegetable Tempura ($18.95, Grade A): I like how they cut the vegetables--not too chunky. There is nothing worse than a chunky carrot that isn't cooked to its core. The tempura batter doesn't pull off when you bite into it, and it isn't oily at all. Yasai Ramen ($17.95, Grade A): Asked for a water broth to make this safe and vegetarian-friendly. You would think it would be tasteless, but it was surprisingly packed with flavor. The medium spice level definitely helped, but even for people sensitive to heat, this would be a tasty dish. It says water-based, but it still has a deep, eye-appealing dark color. The noodles have a great bite. Not overly mushy. And they stay that way for the entire meal. Broccoli, zucchini, bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms, and cabbage. The cubed tofu is fresh and wasn't spoiled which often happens with tofu in restaurants that a lot of people don't order daily. Jungle Roll ($14.95, Grade A): Avocado and cucumber, topped with a seaweed salad. Most Japanese restaurants fail to understand that vegetarians also want a fun roll! We asked if they could include a vegetable tempura inside the roll so there would be a good textural component, and added a drizzle of teriyaki and spicy mayo. Good news--they were able to do it, though having to check with the sushi bar is always an adventure ($1 extra for each request). Sidenote: Why do all Japanese restaurants need to ask the sushi bar? One-hundred percent of the time, we eagerly have to wait for the sushi court to give a "rolling." (Ruling if that was too vague). The rolls are made fresh and many meat-based rolls include a tempura element rolled inside. I could understand if we're asking to deep fry the roll, but just adding a tempura and a drizzled sauce? Ok, hopping off my soapbox. Bottom Line We've been coming to this place on and off for over ten years. It's been at least 2 years since our last visit, and there are some noticeable changes. Portions are smaller; the ramen bowls used to be the size of a food challenge. The restaurant itself is looking older and not quite as cared for, but the flavors remain excellent and the friendly, attentive service is completely unchanged.

My friend watched the waitress stack the 5 trays and left to process payment. Waitress returned and told them she was missing one payment. The party insisted that they all paid. The manager came to the table and told them they had to pay before they leave. Again, the party insisted they all paid. One of the ladies asked,"Are you saying that we're lying? There's security cameras in this room. Go review the footage and you can see the proof that we all paid and the waitress took the trays." Apparently the security cameras weren't functioning as he wouldn't look at the footage. The manager wanted to charge the missing payment to the person who used a charge card for her payment and the group told him that was not acceptable. The dispute went on for 30 minutes and customers at a near by table kept turning around and looking at us. The manager stepped away again and returned shortly with the missing payment saying that he found it under the cash register! There was no true apology, no effort to compensate the group for the embarrassing behavior and accusations. Clearly it was the waitress' mistake and she didn't apologize to the group. This is unacceptable behavior from the manager. Knowing this happened yesterday, I will no longer dine at Akebono. Very poor customer service.

It's the kind of place that quietly becomes your favorite before you've even finished your first dish. ‍ Service That Feels Like Home From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, enthusiastic "Irrashaimase!" The hostess was exceptionally engaging--personable without being overbearing--and guided us through the sake menu like a seasoned sommelier of umami. Her thoughtful recommendations led us to a beautiful tasting journey featuring three types of sake: * A classic hot sake for comfort, * A crisp cold sake imported from Japan, and * A smooth and unexpected bottle from Vernon, CA (yes, Vernon--who knew?). Although the tall glasses were emblazoned with Orion Beer branding, we stuck to the sake. No regrets. What We Ate -- A Love Letter to Flavor Every dish was visually stunning and bursting with freshness. Here's what we devoured: * Truffle Hamachi Carpaccio: Thin slices of hamachi bathed in a rich truffle soy, topped with microgreens and salmon roe. Silky, aromatic, and sublime. * Shishito Peppers: Perfectly blistered and dusted with spice. A simple dish that delivered big on smoky flavor. * Sake Nigiri & Tobiko Gunkan: The sake (salmon) nigiri was melt-in-your-mouth fresh, and the tobiko gunkan had just the right briny pop. Clean, classic, perfect. * Negihama Roll: Yellowtail and scallion in delicate harmony--refreshing and elegant. * Spicy Tuna Roll: A fiery flavor bomb, dusted generously with shichimi. Spicy but well-balanced. * Jade Roll: Wrapped in seaweed salad and sesame, this one was fresh, crunchy, and full of herbaceous notes. A standout roll. * Cucumber Sunomono: A palate cleanser and a beautiful contrast to the richness of the fish. Light, crunchy, and seasoned just right with sesame. Ambiance Kumi Sushi's atmosphere is refined but intimate--dim lighting, soft jazz playing in the background, and warm wood tones throughout. It's got date-night vibes without trying too hard. Final Verdict Kumi Sushi is everything you want in a neighborhood sushi spot--just elevated. Thoughtful service, stunning presentation, fresh ingredients, and a sake list that deserves its own night. Whether you're a seasoned sushi snob or just looking for a delicious evening out, this place delivers. 11/10 would truffle hamachi myself into oblivion again. Highly recommended.

It was nice that they had some vegan rolls that weren't just avocado rolls. My sister was happy to be able to order at one place with us. I'm not sure when the grand opening was, but the sign was still hanging up when we got there. The Uni pasta was good, but I wish I had it fresh. I think I would have loved it more. The rolls were decent and we had a little bit of variety. I always cautious going towards 29th St. because of the limited parking but was really happy that they had their own parking lot. I was also able to walk down to Pushkin as well. Inside the restaurant there wasn't an abundance of tables. I hope they get busy, because I think they previously took over this restaurant.

We like to sit at the bar if there's just two of us, and will grab a table when we have friends.
