Best sushi in town! I was worried, stopping at a sushi place in the suburbs, in a strip mall, but the reviews were good. I am glad I stopped to try it! I went right when they opened. Saturday. The sake was second to none. I like mine cold and a little sweet. It was $20 so we shared one. Next time I might skip the edemame because it was kind of a small portion. The specialty rolls were so fresh and full of flavor. We also got the smoked squid, for something new. It was good but I don't think I would order it again. I have heard about Sushi Fix for a while now with some people calling it the best sushi restaurant in town. I have eaten at some truly amazing sushi restaurants all over the world so I never have the bar set too high because we do live in Minnesota. That being said in my opinion there are 2 types of sushi. There are the "Jiro" sushi restaurants where there are 12 seats, the fish was caught 10 minutes ago, reservations take 3 months and you are going to need to take out a second mortgage. Then there are the "American" sushi restaurants. I love both. I love sushi rolls with shrimp tempura, spicy mayo and avocado and other fun americanized ingredients. Before eating at Sushi Fix as far as I was concerned Masu in Northeast was the spot to go for sushi in Minnesota. After trying out Sushi Fix I'm very conflicted. I went into this meal very skeptical. Wayzata Minnesota with great sushi? I stand corrected. The service was great. The sashimi was no question better than Masu's. Thick, luscious, perfect temperature and cut perfectly for tenderness. It tasted extremely fresh. However, Sushi Fix is more expensive and their menu outside of sushi does not compare to Masu's. At the end of the day if you are strictly craving sushi I think you have to go to Sushi Fix. Sushi fix is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in the Midwest. My favorites are the George Clooney, WAYZATA and the veggie roll. All the fish is super fresh and the chefs are always on. I have dined at sushi fix weekly for a couple years and I crave it. read more

If you love sashimi as much as I do, this is definitely a place to try. The difference between Sushi Fix and other japanese restaurants is that you can actually taste how fresh the fish are. The Mr. and I started with the tuna poke and the grilled squid. They were both really good and seasoned just right. Next we ordered the assorted 10 pc. sashimi platter, naughty ninja roll (yellowtail, big eye tuna, snapper & avocado wrapped with red and black tobiko, unagi sauce, spicy aioli and tempura flakes) and a spicy tuna roll. The sashimi tasted so fresh and it was so satisfyingly good. If I could, I would've made the boyfriend order his own but he was lucky I was feeling a little full already =p . The naughty ninja roll was huge and oh so good. I really like that they do not chop up the fish together and left them in chunks so we could taste the freshness of it. That was a definite plus with the Mr. The spicy tuna roll, as simple as it is, I always order this roll at every Japanese restaurant I go too just because, but even with this simple roll, you can still taste just how fresh it is. I am a really tough critic when it comes to sushi so to say that this place beats every other sushi restaurant, maybe not price, is definitely a place you want to try. read more

Erin our waiter was excellent as well as the rest of the staff. My companion drinks a LOT of water and not once did the glass get empty. We started off with the veggie tempura. Was light and delicious. I like to see what the chef can do by asking him/her to be creative. The sushi I received was amazing. We also ordered 3 other sushi rolls and was very happy with those too. The menu is creative and tempting. I love the fact they give you a picture for almost everything. The sake suggested was very smooth. I will be coming back to work my way down the menu and see what else the chef can create. Definitely worth the stop. My only regret is that I didn't get any pictures to share. I can't stop thinking about Sushi Fix. I went there on Friday and I met with my friend who I dined with the next day, and we both agreed we need to go back ASAP. Like this coming weekend ASAP. Sushi Fix is a straight-ish shot from downtown Mpls, located in a strip mall by Wayzata Bay. We got there on a Friday afternoon and were seated promptly. The service could've been nicer, let's get that off the table. It was brief but not rude, efficient but frosty. When we were wondering aloud when our food would arrive - which did take a while to prepare - instead of checking with the kitchen, she acknowledges the food is taking a long time then walks away. Whatever. Thank goodness the food is so good that I forgot all that. And all my memories are just that of great sushi... and other stuff. They have plenty of sake options in both 8 oz and 14 oz servings, and I got junmai daiginjo, which had a nice, crisp taste and was on the drier side. There were four of us and we ordered quite a feast: grilled hamachi cheek, veggie tempura, agedashi tofu, and a bunch of nigiri and specialty rolls. I also got the unagi bowl. My mouth is watering just writing down all this delicious deliciousness. Where do I start? The grilled yellowtail was phenomenal and everything I hoped it would be. The skin was crispy so I tried a little bit of it, but I basically stripped that thing to the bone, picking the littlest bit of meat I can and relishing it. It was smoky and fatty and flaky and meaty and all the things. Just all of it. The veggie tempura and agedashi tofu were solid appetizers as well, but really what has kept me up all these days after is that sushi. According to my discerning friend, the chutoro (medium fatty tuna) was very, very good. Like, NYC sushi good. Daaaaaaamn. I tried a little of it - it was pretty luxurious, and luxuriously priced - and pretty much melted in my mouth. They were out of the toro, sadly, but maybe they'll have it next time. Or the next time after that. The uni was good, but not the best, per feedback from two folks that got it. My unagi bowl was great; I loved the grilled eel with the sticky sauce, perfectly cooked rice and the tiny pieces of sweet, light tamago pieces. I also tried the tiger maki, which was a delightful specialty roll with soft shell crab, spicy tuna, burdock root, eel, salmon, and chili oil. As their menu says: Boom! Although I think I like what my friend got a bit more, which was the Naughty Ninja. It has hamachi, tuna, snapper, and avocado topped with red and black tobiko. YUM. We came in here Wednesday night and had the best experience! Even the bathrooms were awesome, decorated with sumo wrestling wallpaper! We sat at a table in the dining room, our server was Cody and he was awesome! We wanted to try new things so cody recommended the Silly Billy. There were 4 types of fish plus eel and some type of sauce. So good. He also recommended the yellowtail cheeks. OMG, so good! Grilled to perfection. Lately the sushi rolls have gotten smaller, I'm always told they are out of some type of liquor to make speciality drink orders and the staff do not seem to care as much. One flighty waitress said they were out of vodka. Really? Then another staff member said she was "absurd" and. Fought me the original cocktail I'd requested with all the ingredients intact. I'll give it another whirl to see if they stay Sushi Fix or turn into another has been story post management / owner change. After making the trip from south Minneapolis, we arrived at Sushi Fix to find a note on the door saying they were closed and off on the lake enjoying themselves. Well, that's well and good but extremely rude. The website lists the days they are closed, including the 4th of July. They could have had the common courtesy to update the website before heading out and locking the door. Rude. Good news? SAKANA SUSHI just 0.3 miles down the street was open and we had a FABULOUS dinner! Can't recommend them enough! Let the chef prepare your assortment at SAKANA SUSHI and you'll be very happy. One of the best sushi spots in the area. Prices are a bit higher than other sushi places I've been to, but you get what you pay for. You really can't go wrong with any of the specialty rolls (I highly recommend the #9 and the Jackie chan). Everything is so fresh and on point. The sashimi! Oh My! They are as fresh as they and others claim! The Sea urchin (uni) is the freshest I've ever had! Even way better than Origami's. Billy, the owner & head chef, is very friendly and greets everyone that walks in the door. I know it's market price and seasonal only, but the only downfall was they didn't have the Toro (fatty and best cut of a tuna), because I was really hoping and looking forward to some since the ones from Origami's were really fresh. We have eaten at Sushi Fix at least 50 times now. The sushi has been consistently fresh and exceptional. Whenever we are celebrating a special event, my 13 year old picks Sushi Fix because the service is excellent and the staff is so friendly to her and readily takes time to answer her questions when we sit at the sushi bar. I'm really glad to see the restaurant is expanding because it has gotten busier and busier as people have discovered it. The rolls are flavor sensations - but if you dare to go outside of the rolls, there are so many creations to try that will make your taste buds happy! Absolutely horrible experience - we were greeted rudely when we entered the place. As they don't take reservations we decided what we wanted to order while waiting so that we could order as soon as we sat down. Despite our quick order we waited for FORTY minutes as we watched multiple take out orders being prepared rather than ours. We asked for the manager who was not there because he was out in the food truck so there was no one able to address our complaints - nor did anyone really bother trying to provide customer service. It was a pretty busy Friday night and we didn't have reservations, however there was only two of us and we were able to get seated right away. The waitress was prompt and provided some insight on recommendations. We started off with the seaweed salad and the octopus salad. We also tried the yellowtail cheek. All were delicious. For our sushi, we did the silly billy and the Jackie chan. The sushi tasted really fresh and the flavors were perfect. The only downside is that this place is definitely on the more pricier range for sushi. I don't believe they even have a happy hour here.
