Quality was good and pretty delicious. The sashimi was very thick ( 1/2 inch) and kinda unappetizing because of it. The chef wasn't wearing a mask over his nose and mouth. It was just on his chin. I let the server know when I picked up my food and they were nice about it. Probably won't go again because their pricing was all over the place and the chef wasn't wearing a mask properly. read more

Way over priced! The sushi rolls are much smaller than other Japenese restaurants. You basically spend a bunch of money and never really get much food. Otherwise, the sushi tasted good and the service was good. read more

Popped into Sushi Garden yesterday for a late lunch...what a nice experience...very attractive fresh decor, superlative service from cheerful young ladies and really great food...the Bento Box special is the deal...many options to try and everything was super...BONUS is that they appear to have made a big effort to stay GREEN...there was no plastic to be found, straws made of corn starch and take out bags are biodegradable...I commented to our server how nice that they paid attention to this detail and she was proud that they were 'all in' as well...looking forward to a return visit and happy to Have Sushi Garden so close to our neighborhood read more

Love this place! Always consistantly delish! Recently took friends who were vegan and had an excellant tofu dish with sesame seeds! Sushi rolls are awesome! And bento boxes huge. Took some home. read more

It is a new restaurant, so still in boxes but it doesn't matter since there is no indoor dining due to the pandemic. The sushi was delicious! Will be back next time I am in the area. read more

So happy to have a great sushi spot in Aptos. We have picked up take-out several times in the past month and it's been fantastic. Fresh fish, tasty sauces and friendly staff. We love the decor and look forward to enjoying a dine-in meal here soon. read more

Put in our order in online around 5:10PM for dinner and selected pick up between 6 and 6:15PM. Got to the restaurant to pick up the order at 6 and was told the order was not yet ready but it would be done "soon". 40 minutes later, when I asked for an update I was told the food was still not ready and that it would just be "like 3 minutes". Multiple people arrived after me and both placed and received orders while I waited. Finally after another 15 minutes the food was ready. The whole time I was waiting outside in the cold mucky rain with only an overhang and never once given any update on my order unless I personally came and asked about it. At no time was I offered any type of communication. When I first arrived followed the signs and went inside a different door for the online order and stood there while every employee ignored me and no one even said anything about how that were only going to use the one door tonight. They asked if I wanted any drinks when the order was finally ready I assume compensated to make up for the hour I spent waiting on my food, which I did not take them up on, but nothing else and I'm sorry but that is not enough to make up for the horrible service. EDIT: The management reached out and refunded our meal. While it was still a frustrating experience I appreciate that they made strides to get in contact with me and make amends. read more

Ok let me start by saying I am a big sushi garden fan. I love the other locations and wanted to finally try the Aptos one since I live super close. I was first surprised on how the layout was. It seems like they could use more tables and maybe not have the community bar seating in the middle. I'm surprised they didn't pick a bigger space to call home here in Aptos. We got there right at 5pm on a Saturday night and were seated a quickly. If we would have gotten there around 6 we would have been out in the cold waiting. We got our drinks pretty quickly and also placed our order. We got one bento box for my daughter which came out super quick. We had to wait almost another 15 min for the rest of the sushi to come to the table. We also noticed other tables received their sushi before ours and they were seated after we were. I know we ordered 2 baked rolls which I know take longer but why did they come out before the other 4 standard rolls we ordered ? The rolls were great and the server did a good job after we got our food. She refilled our drinks and we got the check quickly after we were finished. It just really bothers me when food comes out so spread out like it did. Just makes the whole experience of eating together a little awkward. We will try again for sure. I know this is a new location and they are still working out the kinks. I just hope they can work on getting things brought out a little more organized. I think they should add heaters outside. We are in Aptos and it's usually foggy. If we had to wait we would probably go to a different restaurant to be honest because it would be too cold Update - we gave it a second try. Got there right at 5pm on a Saturday and everything started out great. Our server was excellent! Just seems like the kitchen decides to do whatever they want when it comes to how the food comes out. Sushi rolls were combined on plates and we had to spend time moving them to smaller plates since our kids ordered their own rolls that they were not sharing. Seems like the server knew this because she commented that the kitchen decides to combine the rolls into plates. Do they not have enough plates to go around? I don't get it. And once again one of the meals came almost 10 minutes after the rest of the food arrived. It seems like the other locations do not have this problem. And our baked roll was a little burnt on top. First time that has happened. We scraped the burnt part off and just ate it. Not sure why this new location cannot get this right. Sorry I think we will be going to the Capitola or Watsonville location next time. Even though we live within 2 miles of this location. read more

We are regulars at Sushi Garden in the Capitola and Watsonville locations so we wanted to try out this location. It was definitely going through growing pains as a new business (open 5 weeks at this time). The sushi was really inconsistent. The lady beside us has a rainbow roll and it was HUGE, and we got 2 rainbow rolls and they were thin and measly. Besides the inconsistency in the size of the rolls between our table and the table next to us, one of our rainbow rolls was cut into 8 pieces, the other one cut into 9 pieces. Some pieces too thick to eat, some pieces very very thin. I got sashimi and it looked like a 5 year old cut the pieces. No finesse, big chunks of fish, thick on one end and thin on the other. Size consistency just all over the place. None of those precise Japanese cuts or beautiful, uniform pieces of fish that sushi is known for. Oh, and the nigiri has the smallest little rice balls underneath, like hlaf of what it should've been. Very obvious that the sushi "chef" who made our plates did not know what he was doing. And the meal/tip cost around $125 for this sushi "chef" to practice on us. Will stick to the Capitola or Watsonville locations in the future. read more

I will not come here again. We went on Sunday and it was very crowded. No hostess was dedicated to seating so people were pouncing on tables with no regard for when they arrived. The floor was dirty under the tables. We ordered bento to check out both the tenpura and the sushi. There were four pieces of sushi, two maguro and two sake. The fish was large, but the rice was tiny. It was not good quality sushi rice and there was no wasabi. You couldn't get a bite of both fish and rice. They didn't fit together. The oil on the 3 pieces of shrimp tenpura tasted old. The two extra bits of deep-fried roll in the box were cold. I think it was too much for the staff (three of five sushi chefs were from other Sushi Gardens). If you are familiar with decent sushi, look elsewhere. My husband remarked that it didn't come up the the standards and a 7-11 in Osaka and it is relatively expensive. I don't mind paying for good sushi, but Santa Cruz needs to educate itself on the subject. read more
