You couldn't pick the pieces up with chop sticks, dip it, and get it into your mouth without it falling apart. The environment is nice enough. The service was a bit casual. Plates much too tiny. I love the food. Amazing. I ate lunch and dinner there in the last week. There were very few people at lunch and the service was terrible. I had to get up twice to ask for water. Dinner was very crowded and the server who seated guests was confused overall and we were finally allowed to sit at the counter. Terrible service both times. Firstly, We got a $100 take out order from this location today, the person that took my order had little knowledge of the menu and it took me explaining my request thoroughly, than they still gave me the wrong food. All I ordered was sashimi hamachi instead of tuna for my $30 entree, & the employee did in fact input no tuna on the order, but the kitchen still put tuna,And the Chicken katsu were dry and overly deep fried, & the Gun smoke roll felt apart very easily, every thing else was ok. Secondly, I am a regular customer in Scotts Valley location. We dine in or get take out order all the time & never have had a problem before. Today we were on a trip to seaside-Monterey & decided to get some take out order at the Capitola location instead, but since they gave me the wrong order i can't really drive back to get a different sashimi or fix my order. Eventually, I just had to get something else on the way, because I can't eat tuna. Thirdly, I have a reward card since 2016, but never used it. So we had a dinner in Scotts Valley location last night & the manager told me that I have $100 rewardpoints saved and I can use it in any location for take out or dine in order. But when I picked up my take out order, the floor manager told me that I cannot use it, so I paid for that and left. But when I called back and asked about my sashimi and asked about the reward card, the man said that they've had this new policy that initiated a day ago (BS!) & that we can't use reward card for take-out. And then I talked to the floor manager about my sashimi and asked about the reward card, she gave me a different answer again!!!! She said that they never use reward card for take-out order, and they had this policy since 8 years ago. And she said maybe the manager in SV don't know the policy. I know sometimes restaurants don't like serving single individuals (smaller bills, less tips etc..) but The staff was very nice including the chefs at the sushi bar. I'd give the place a higher rating, but the waitress service seems a little inexperienced. Service could be a little better --- which is true of almost every restaurant in Santa Cruz --- but I'd rather have inexperienced servers and good sushi. I've been coming to this restaurant for almost 4 years now, but over the past few months their service and rolls haven't been up to par. Its been 3 times already that I've called for take out and they forget about my order and i have to wait there for them to complete my order. (about 30 mins) Last night i also called in an order and asked for spicy mayo on top of my roll and not only did they forget to do that but their rolls were made super sloppy. I have been going to Sushi Garden for years, and I completely love the renovation and the new specialty rolls were amazing!!! Contrary to another Yelper, I have had the server Linds on several occasions and she always greets us with a smile and attentiveness! The suggestions she had on sashimi, rolls and saki were right on! The food was delicious, the timing of food being served was impeccable and our group had a lovely night of saki, sushi and conversation! We've been going to Sushi Garden for the last 10 years and the service has steadily gone down hill for the last 4 months. The last 3 dinning experiences have been the worst of all time. We tired again tonight and this was the experience that proves we won't be back for awhile. We waited for 50 minutes for our order or Sushimi (cut raw fish) and 1 row. We watched while people on either side of us received their orders. They gave us our order on the way out and when we got home,the food was not worth it If you don't mind being ignored and treated with no respect, go there. I was working overnight in Santa Cruz and stayed at the hotel across the street. Their rolls, salad, soups, tempura and sakis were very good and fresh. I go there about every week or so when I stay 2 days in Capitola for about 4 months and have been eating there every time I stayed. I'll sometimes dine in or call them to get my stuff to-go (takes about 20 mins to get your food ready). It's a pretty good price for a sushi joint. read more

yummm! i went here with my boyfriend on valentine's day and it was amazing. there were a few people waiting in line who seemed like they had been waiting a while but we had made a reservation and were seated immediately. We got the magic dragon, the disney roll, and the spider roll. All of them were amazing, especially the magic dragon. We also got a side of mixed tempura, which was pretty good. I eat a lot of sushi and this is my favorite place to eat! They have a great selection and great service. Good prices and friendly people make it my #1 choice. The only problem is if you go for dinner make sure you get there right when they open because there is not much seating which makes the atmosphere cozy but it makes the wait long. read more

The Worst service EVER! I would say they made there place bigger but did not add any more servers! My server place a plate on my table and I asked what rolls were these and she said I don't know .. and had to go grab menu and read through them to figure out which rolls they were .....On top of it we waited about 45 minutes to a hour for our food and we went on a week day ... This place is awesome. I go once a month, and am always taken care of. The quality of fish is great, and there is a huge list of rolls to choose from. The specials are always great as well. The last time I went, they ran out of hamachi for the sashimi plate I ordered, so they gave me a double order of the more expensive selections!! Then they brought the table an extra hot sake on the house. There are only a couple good sushi places in Santa Cruz among a plethora of mediocre ones. This is one of the good ones. read more

Great place to eat, ambience is casual nothing fancy just good seafood. I love the salad with miso dressing, fish is fresh, the rolls are really tasty we've had a few different ones: Grinch, Spicy tuna, Caterpillar, Dragon, and Crazy rolls. It's great to go for a casual diner, prices are a little higher but they give you a decent portion. They have $10 off coupons sometimes in the paper which is great. If they had coupons out regularly we would definitely go more often. Yum! read more

Best sushi in Santa Cruz. Yes, the menu is extensive. Think Sushi Garden Guide to Sushi. I love the green tea- it is a-mazing. Miso soup is on point, the miso salad dressing- you could slather it on shoe leather, I'd eat with gusto. YUM! My favorite is the Midori Michi (tempura yam, avocado, mac nuts & cucumber). Their tempura is the bomb. It's in a weird business park strip mall, but has a soothing atmosphere somehow. I heart you Sushi Garden! read more
