The service is great, the fish is fresh. They have a very extensive menu so no matter what your preferences are there's something for everbody, from more tradishional to americanized rolls and specials.they also just expanded and have mixed drinks with sake and beer on tap now. read more

In town on business. Wanted some dinner and a few drinks. Sat at the sushi bar and had great service. The place was bustling on a Monday night which was a good sign, everyone there seems happy and poised. Our sushi chef helped us order our food, which were two delicious rolls I don't remember their names. We could not help, however, but order drink after drink off their (new?) sakintini menu!!! Our service was timely. Our waitress even offered to split off our 'drinks' from the check since it was a 'work' dinner. Awesome. Thanks for an enjoyable evening!! read more

Came here twice to have dinner. The first time the food and the service was great so i came back a second time because its in a nice quite place. However this time my waitress took longer than before to take my order and to bring me my food. My waitress brings me my plate after i hear the kitchen ringing the little bell when an order is ready. i got a plate with cold beef teriyaki and salmon teriyaki I'm not sure about everyone else but i like to enjoy my meals hot i think that's how it should be served if your going some where and paying for their food. I never complain but this time i nicely told my waitress the food was very cold never did she offer anything except an apology and I'm stuck with paying for a cold meal. I will not come back here again. I would suggest to check your food before might be cold. read more

Really? This is the third time I have tried to get a Togo order, which they do and which they have a Togo menu on there website for. But each time they say we aren't doing Togo orders now, if u call back in an hour or so we can do them. Call back an hour later with the same response. Oh well, the sushi is sub par to most other sushi places in Santa Cruz area. Slow service, higher prices for the size u get. Used to enjoy it just because its walking distance from home when we're a little tipsy. But how often they say they can't do Togo orders is a joke and finally pushed me to actually write a review. This used to be our favorite sushi place where we came regularly. In the past few months we have seen the service steadily decline and so have our visits. The food is always good so we thought we would give it another try. Tonight we were completely disappointed and will not return for a long time. We decided to eat in the bar. There were a few people sitting at the bar and one other table eating in the bar area, so not too busy. Service was horrible. It took 10 min for someone to greet us. We ordered the udon at the same time we ordered our drinks. It took 30 min to get the udon which came after our sushi order (which we ordered 20 min apart). We had to get up and ask for bowls, no serving utensils came with the soup. My husband had to get up and ask for soy sauce, and wasabi (none came with the sushi) and to pay the bill. He was up trying to get what we needed more than he was sitting at the table. No one ever checked on us once. The food was tasty but the experience was horrible. It will be a long time, if ever we come back. The waitress avoided eye contact with us whenever she walked by. read more

Dec,16th,2011. My wife and I live down the street from Sushi Garden have been for over 13 yrs. We made a decision to have dinner at Sushi Garden so I looked at their website and found that they close at 9:30pm we walked in at 9:00pm a man behind the counter said to us Sorry we take are last call at 9:15 I said ok its not 9:15 can we have a table he said no and sorry we're closing? This is sad for both of us and will be sad for anyone planning a dinner. I will never go to this place ever sad for them they lost a local customer. Good luck in the New Year. Disappointing. Previous reviewer nailed it. For a Sushi restaurant to be great, the Nigiri must be excellent. While my Sake and Hamachi were Ok, the Maguro (generally my fav) sucked. Took over 30 minutes to get it, with a not that busy restaurant, too. I'm moving on. read more

Amazing food and great service! So much sushi to choose from, it's a sushi lovers paradise! You have to try the "what-the-jal" stuffed jalapeños and the squid rings are fresh with a crispy, delicious tempura batter. The sashimi has huge portions of thick, fresh fish! Got the carry-out sashimi combo...about $27 bucks, 15 pieces of high quality fish. I requested more salmon than tuna, and they obliged happily. UsuAlly, it's "chef's pick," so it can be difficult for them to accommodate this request. I will definitely be going back. read more

Great Sushi!! My favorite place in Capitola/ Soquel area for Sushi. Not the cheapest Sushi, but the freshest. Not real expensive, but maybe slightly above average in price but worth it. I hate going to a commercial Sushi type restuarant that taste like you bought your Sushi from a grocery store. I would give a rating for their food (4 stars) and a separate rating for their service and servers (2 stars). THE GOOD: The vegetarian rolls, sushi, sashimi, and noodle dishes are really tasty, fresh and filling; the miso dressing and many of their sauces are really tasty, and the place is clean and has a good vibe. The servers can be really knowledgeable and on point with the menu; prompt service, checking in with you table side to make sure you are enjoying your food, or asking if you need anything, making you feel welcome and appreciated. THE BAD: I find their service and servers to be hit or miss and extremely inconsistent, leaving me apprehensive to eat there more often... at times, waiting 45 minutes to an hour for our food, which I'd be willing to overlook if the servers would check in on occasion and for drink or edame refills (whether it is busy or not); even when our food has arrived timely, servers not checking in with you, and having an attitude - they make you feel like you're bugging them (eyes rolling, shoulders bristling, irritated tone of voice, short answers and not interested in your questions). I even hesitate to call in to order pickup - sometimes the phone will literally ring a full minute and/or I have to call several times before anyone answers, and then I'm treated like I'm bugging them. Anyway, the good servers and service are really, really good but then you can get treated really, really bad, making you feel like you don't want to come back. Overall, the food and the restaurant itself make me want to eat there more but the inconsistency in good professional service and servers leaves me hesitant; otherwise I would rate this restaurant a 4 or 5 star. read more

We arrived at 7:30 wrote in on the wait list and watched people wait for service,orders and checks our party was seated at 8:00pm and ordered after waiting for another 20minutes we were able to order. . Rolls and drinks started coming out after yet another 20 minute wait My combination dinner of beef teriyaki was cold,fatty and nearly raw. the rice was dry and the shrimp dry By the time I was able to find a staff member to attend to this it was 9:30pm and my appetite had departed . I would say if you cannot keep a manager or owner in your resturant to attend to service you should not be open for that shift. read more

The food is good, but do not even bother unless you have over an hour to wait for your food. Takeout orders from this place take just as long - even if you place the order an hour ahead, you'll still end up waiting when you arrive. Better off at any of the other sushi places in SC area. I have been dining here once a week with my girlfriend. Tonight was the last time. Their busboy sprayed table cleaner all over the table next to us but it was in our direction and the cleaning solution got all over me. I asked him to stop because it was getting on us and our food, but he kept on spraying like he didn't comprehend my words or hand motions to stop! The spay got in my hair, my face, all of the side of me and all in my food. After I got up to move away I told the busboy that he was an idiot for not stopping his spraying. He squared off his shoulders to me and said "don't call me an idiot in my restaurant". He would not move away from me and kept saying the same thing over again. I walked away and asked to speak to a manager and as I was speaking to our waitress the busboy walked over and stood in front me and said the same thing "don't call me an ..." The guy postured like he wanted to fight. I had to tell him several times to move away from me. The waitress offered to sit us at another table and bring my food to us. Really!? The food that was sprayed and would have gotten us sick!? Really!? F@$& this place and their pea brains. I would caution anyone going to this restaurant. Feel free to go if you want to get sick, get sprayed with cleaning solution, and be physically threatened by a busboy. And yes, I should not have called the busboy an idiot. Rather, I should have said his behavior was idiotic. Live and learn. read more
