My husband and I don't usually choose Sushi Garden when we crave Japanese food, but our kids were hoping to eat from the buffet, so we relented. Needless to say, the buffet doesn't exist anymore, which is fine, I get they're being cautious. We ordered 4 lunch boxes: 3 teriyaki salmon, 1 shrimp tempura. While we were waiting, we couldn't help but notice the weirdly sticky tables, dingy furniture and music that kept cutting in and out - all things that could have sent us away, but we stuck it out because we were hungry. The waitress was lovely, but we should've left when we had the chance. Our salmon boxes came, and I felt like Goldilocks with small, smaller and smallest portions of salmon - mine was smallest, probably about the size of the box you present your beloved's engagement ring in - 2 bites tops to finish. I've never ate at an all you can eat sushi place because I've always thought it would be low quality sushi yet I tried this one because it was recommended to me. Let me just say I will not be back. First of the service, I wish I would have gotten the waitresses name because she was so rude since the very beginning. They forgot 2 of my orders and they came out when I was already getting ready to leave, this didn't happen to just me because the people sitting next to me also had the same issue. Never really been a fan of sushi garden but when my friends dragged me here for dinner, I reluctantly agreed... First off, we sat at a table that barely fit our party and then they FORCED us to move because it was a safety concern....???? After they put us at a table with horribly uncomfortable chairs. We then placed an order and waited for our food. I ordered the fried rice and asked for no peas. Guess what? I got extra peas. Then they brought out all of the food except my edamame and oh I don't know just my friends whole entire meal. Our waiter never checked on us and my friend never got his food. TL;DR: This place basically robs you when it's time to tip - we spent about $58 dollars after tax, and the tip options at the register said "15% tip" was $20! That was more than 30% of our bill!! The food on it's own was hardly worth what we spent for it, and I'm definitely never going back after witnessing that kind of blatant dishonesty. So, I've only been to Sushi Garden once before, for its lunch buffet, and while I wasn't super impressed, it was definitely good enough to consider come back again to try their all you can eat sushi. So my boyfriend and I did - as an early celebration for my birthday. I'll be totally honest here: I wasn't expecting too much, and that's exactly what I got. Okay food with an okay atmosphere and okay service. I wasn't disappointed but I certainly wasn't impressed. What pisses me off is what came after the meal. Generally speaking, I've never really felt like I've had to question the automatically generated tips you can select at cash registers nowadays. Naive, I know, but I hadn't noticed anything amiss until tonight. My boyfriend selected 15% for the tip (pretty standard for us - we're both college students and outings like these are treats) on a bill that was about $58. Do you know how much 15% of $58 is? About $8.70. Do you know how much these godforsaken people were trying to pass 15% of this bill off as? NEARLY $20! That's almost 35%!! If not for the fact that my boyfriend usually calculates tips based on the bill before we go up to pay, I doubt we would've noticed before it was too late! What a joke! Not Dog Friendly. I have eaten at Sushi Garden several times and have brought my dog on many occasions. We had always eaten on the patio like many of the other restaurants in Tucson. Apparently, they do not allow dogs anymore. The first issue came when the hostess tried to seat me indoor. The reservation I filled out explicitly stated I wanted a patio seat because I had my dog with me. Then some lady came over and freaked out yelling at me telling me I could not have a dog in her establishment, "You, no dog allowed!" The disgust on her face towards me for bringing my best friend out to dinner was appalling. I have eaten there with my dog 2 other times I know of and I will never lock him in the car so I can eat a meal anywhere. The anger I felt towards her rudeness ensures I will never return to Sushi Garden with or without my best friend. The service was wonderful! The drinks were fun. We also had the tuna tots and they were really good. A bit unwieldy but I enjoy the challenge. The sushi left much to be desired. When we first ordered the customer service wasn't off to a great start. Then when we started to order we realized the prices were horrible for some of the things we wanted to get. If we ordered the boat or giant plate of sushi with all the basic sushi on it. It would be the same price to get the sushi we wanted to try with the exact same amount so it was a rip-off. I ate at Sushi Garden on Broadway multiple times in the part few years. I am a bit puzzled by the 1-star reviews, because I don't think they deserve that kind of beating at all. I have never been disappointed by the food or the service at any time in all these years. That's not to say that from time to time, service has a down day. But why not give them another shot before writing a scathing piece? I usually have nirigi (tuna, yellow tail, salmon roe), and more rarely sashimi (cost is a factor). I tested spicy tuna rolls, california rolls, dragon rolls. It's all good. I never had a piece of fish that didn't taste good or was chewy. The rice is cooked correctly, not soggy not dry-ish. Sure, if I compare with sushi I ate in Japan, that rating would suffer... But we are in Tucson, you can't compare apples and oranges. Compared with other Japanese restaurants in town, Sushu Garden is a solid 4-star. The service is generally good and well-intentioned. I get all the hot green tea I want (their tea is green, it tastes better than the usual hojicha served in other Japanese restaurants in town), and the waitresses/waiters are polite even when the place is busy. The place itself is nice, with a wraparound patio. I prefer eating outside than inside, but it's not always possible. Price-wise, that's where I remove a star from a 5-star rating. I think it's a little on the expensive side. Lunch for two, with one extra roll and tip, will hit $50 pretty quickly. I keep coming back, so I'm still a happy diner, but I can't make Sushi Garden my cantina, or I'll eat ramen noodles the rest of the week. Big PARTY of 14 people. Half of our group took on the Challenge for all you can eat. And the other half took on regular orders. Birthday gatherings can be so fun, when you've got so many people to accommodate for one waiter. I ordered the Aloha PoKE bowl, and green tea. Others at our table ordered spiked beverages and so forth. They were pretty good, drinks always come out aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Sushi was not bad, fresh ingredients. Some teriyaki sauces are too sweet for my taste, but this one was okay, even for a piece that had been sitting in the sauce. Veggie medley was really oily. Veggies were okay, I think I ate a piece of dirt or something in the broccoli and I personally like the cabbage cooked longer. Chow Mein is okay, a little too sweet, noodles are really chewy. Salmon skin roll has pickle in it. Can't decide if I like it better with or without, but if you don't like it, it's pretty easy to poke it out. The shrimp tempura roll on the other hand has cream cheese which I could not poke out...didn't really like it, but I usually don't like cream cheese in my sushi. Crab puffs are cream cheese, imitation crab, green onion, and I think a few other things mixed together. Visited Sushi Garden with my daughter since it was one of our favorite restaurants. Been a loyal customer for years BUT the service lately is not good at all. First of all, I went to the restroom and there was no soap or paper towels. My daughter and I were seated in the first high table nearest to the restrooms. Immediately after coming back from the restroom I notice one of the cooks go in to the restroom and come out a few minutes later. Keep in mind, there is no soap or paper towels. I bring this up to the manager who proceeds to go into the restroom and says the soap and paper towel dispenser is working. Which is weird because I was the only one in the restroom and they weren't working. I even tapped gently on the dispensers and nothing. Then there was the wait time for the food. Our waiter, a bald gentleman did not have a sense of urgency nor did he care that it took more than 35 minutes to get our food. He didn't even apologize or acknowledge the wait time. He simply dropped off the food as if nothing had happened. There are other sushi place with better service and better quality of food. It's kinda hidden on the corner of the street but there's a lot of parking in the back lot. I like the interior decoration. Very trendy! They offer an all-you-can-eat option, with a specific selected menu. Downside: you must eat everything you order, and if you leave anything behind, even rice, you get charged. The option is priced around $25ish, so be sure to come with an appetite. Also, you're only able to share rolls or items between other people who opt for the all-you-can-eat deal. The area that this restaurant is located in is fairly nice, with other dining and drinking options. If you come here when it's busy, you can add your name to the electronic list, where a text message will be sent to you to notify you when you're table is ready. Expect long waits on weekends. The service was really good, and we didn't have to wait too long to order. Our water cups were always filled and it was easy to get a hold of a waiter/server. The seating options vary, from very high sushi bar seating, tables, booths, and outdoor patio seating. I tried to come here one other night and the wait was about 45 minutes, however all the outdoor seating was empty...I assume it was a waiting staff issue, since clearly there was enough seating outside and it was a cool Friday evening. read more

Three stars because this was the first night we had a bad experience. Normally things are quick, servers are attentive, food is great and all around I am left satisfied and smiling. The waitress was extremely awkward when my husband asked if we had to pay for the AYCE for our 14 month old. All I wanted was a yes or no answer so there were no surprises but she wouldn't give one. Our first round of rolls comes out and everything is lovely. Then we order our second round of 4 rolls. My kid is getting restless. I am hungry. My husband is looking around. We see trays of food go by but nothing. 20 minutes pass and our waitress is saying something about not finding the ticket and then doing a "rush order" and it would only be a few minutes. Another 15 minutes pass with a waitress that won't make eye contact and ONE ROLL comes out. We were irritated, the manager would only give 20% off and told us this isn't a "McDonald's". He brought my bottle of wine. A short while later my dinner guest arrived. We had wine and talked. We finally made our dinner choices and ordered. I realized the bartender had been busy, but his wiping of his hands on his face and hair three feet from us was a turn off. He may have washed his hands soon thereafter, but still not appealing. The food was average and slightly over median priced. We enjoyed ourselves though. The next afternoon I noticed a seperate debit from the Sushi Garden. - $57.00. I called the restaurant a few times and finally spoke with the accountant. He said their point of sale system with cards made the extra debit charge - a fluke. I had not wanted any discount because of their error, but none of the management offered at all. Sucks to be you attitude as if it was a common practice of their P.O.S. My main beef involves what happens when 20 customers have their 50 or 60 dollars tied up with their P.O.S. for 7 business days? Whose making the interest off of the taken money from customers? It's not much interest, but after many POS discrepancies, who knows? What if a customer has a bill due elsewhere and his money's tied up by a P.O.S. process and he incurs a late fee because of a lack of funds in his account? Who pays the late fee? Not the Restauarant whith the P O.S. The manager's attitude was flippant. I am never eating there again. Nice sushi bar to watch sports and eat and hang out with friends. The only reason I take away one star away is because the service is hit or miss. We have had some awesome servers and then some who just don't seem with it. Tonight we had sushi brought to us with no plates or chopsticks to eat it with, slow acknowledgement and fulfillment of our needs (drink refills, GF soy sauce, bill etc), leaving when we were ready to order (sheet filled out, but he picked it up, looked at it, and put it back down on the table and left) and when we were ready to pay, credit card in hand, leaving the bill, walking away, and taking a long time to come back to collect. The all-you-can-eat sushi is def a good idea when you're really hungry for sushi. It seems expensive at first but it's actually a good value ($22.95/person) once you take into account the quality and taste of the sushi rolls especially the caterpillar roll and S.G. roll. The lunch buffet ($10.95/person) is also a great deal and there's a huge variety of delicious Japanese food offered. They also have a bar! Naturally, we didn't go back for a while. But, we decided to give Sushi Garden a go once again for lunch today. This time, in my fried rice, there was hair. I told our waitress, who apologized. I figured the bill would reflect the fact that I didn't eat my meal, but alas, it did not. So, I flagged down a manager. He was VERY defensive from the get go. He questioned me like I was trying to scam him, though it was clear that I did not eat. He walked away to find our waitress who took the hair away. He offered no apology, just a skeptical attitude. He returned with our check, put it in front of me without looking at me or speaking to me, and walked away. What the fuck man? That's how you treat a customer? HOLEH MOLEH!! i knew i'd be back eventually for their lunch buffet. the husband and i's first choice for lunch wasn't quite open at 10:45 in the morning after doctor's appointments and i was superrrrrrrr hungry for some grinds. luckily, due to some conveniently placed advertising, my husband shouted out "sushi garden!" and off we went. the buffet is $8.95 and has a large selection of choices. start off with the miso soup (as we would say in hawaii, "broke da mout". it's literally perfect). there are fresh assorted rolls (california, etc) and they even have a fried roll. there's japanese food (shrimp, vegetable tempura (the tempura dipping sauce is in the coffee-looking-canister), chicken & fish. there's chinese food and i think some korean vegetables. everything was delicious. hit the spot. then we had the biggest kanak attack (the feeling of intense laziness that one gets from eating too much) when we were finished. i think that this will be our favorite spot to come back to for a quick, easy, fast and fresh lunch (not to mention inexpensive!!!) read more

Before my recent experience, this was my go-to place for sushi whenever I was in Tucson. The food was great, and the sushi chefs were always friendly. This last time I came in, however, was a totally different story. I've ordered the tempura roll before, I know how it turns out. However, when I ordered it on Saturday the 3rd, my waitress, Prisilla, assured me my tempura roll was normal, that there wasn't much tempura on it usually. She told me to order the California roll with tempura next time, but that's not what I wanted to eat.
