We can easily check off all three items within an early afternoon. Some of our usual orders consist of: 1) Nabeyaki udon 2) Chicken katsu 3) Seafood stir-fried noodles 4) Spider roll 5) Shrimp tempura Despite the name, they are not the most authentic Japanese food. In fact, the menu has several Chinese dishes such as eggplant stew which we have tried and enjoyed. So I would say this is an Asian fusion restaurant with standard Asian flavors and decent portions. I love this place. It's a cute quaint place in a strip mall area. My husband took me here when we were dating years ago. We now have taken our daughter a few times here and she loves it. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, even when we brought her at 14 months. I think the sushi is great. My favorite is their bento boxes. It's casual and intimate. We have even ordered carry out on a few occasions. They're also super generous with their ginger which is soooo hard to find! Highly recommend. read more

This is our favorite Japanese spot near my house. There is actually another Sushi House closer to home, but we prefer the Westmont location more. The waitress is nice and the service is quick. I can't say no to a good bento box, so I haven't tried anything else on their menu. They make excellent cali rolls, their steak terriyaki is always cooked nicely and the tempura batter is light and crispy. To make it even a better value, I would love if they can add a small side of soup or salad to their bento box and also add a couple more bites of rice. Dropped by this one for an early weekend lunch and overall the food was quite good. I did the chicken katsu/cutlet served with a side if white rice and some steamed veggies. Very nice and crispy outside and juicy on the inside. Also shared one of their specialty rolls and took a few bites a chirashi bowl. I have to mention that the fish here is much fresher and better quality than some of the surrounding sushi spots. Being the first customers in, the service was good so no issue or complaints there. Went to Sushi House for lunch this week and overall it was good and I would go back. The restaurant is fairly small with a dozen or so tables and a sushi bar. It's not a super fancy place but does the job. They're open for both lunch and dinner. For food, I ordered the Spicy Salmon roll and Spicy Tuna roll. The salmon was ok, there was one tough piece that I had to work through. The SpicyTuna was really good though. We also had an order of Gyoza which were awesome. The staff was really nice, but my only complaint was that it took a long time for our food to come out and it wasn't that busy. That said, they apologized for the wait and luckily we weren't in a huge rush. read more

I had dropped by for a last minute dinner and was satisfied with my experience. The menu I was handed to read over was a bit confusing with no real clarification between quantity of rolls and serving sizes. For the price, the quality/quantity of rolls/food overall could have been better. It was a bit underwhelming as the prices are more reflective of a higher end sushi restaurant without the quality. Sushi House has the best fish in town-My partner and I strolled in here by chance and are so glad we did! The steak teriyaki is perfectly charred and juicy. The nigiri is freshly prepped with such love and care, you can tell the chef and staff here care about quality of food and customer service. Their variety of menu's offered us choices such as traditional piece sushi and rolls with a entrée menu with house special rolls and noodles. I ordered the sashimi lunch special which is the chef's 12 piece selection. The fish was decent which only the salmon and tuna was nice and the rest was super small, 1 crap stick sliced in half as two piece and 2 shrimp cut in half as two piece. This is the original Sushi House location. You can taste it in the authenticity of the dinner menu dishes. The fish is freshly examined by the head chef each and every delivery. Highlights for me were the 2014 Roll, Soft Shell Crab appetizer, and the Sexy Mexican Roll, there are literally too many great options to mention! Very generous cuts of Sashimi too! This review is based on my experience with carry out only. It's easy to place an order through their website. I ordered the best west roll and spring step roll with a side of spicy mayo. It was ready a little before the time I had requested which I prefer over waiting for my food. I had paid online when placing the order so it was a quick pickup. Both rolls were really good and perfectly sized- I hate when places make massive rolls and the only good way to eat them is to stuff the entire piece into your mouth and you end up looking like a chipmunk trying to chew the large piece. Average food, with a very romantic vibe! Potential to be a great restaurant if they had more cocktail options and more simple options for sushi. It's easy to get caught up in the trend of having sushi with a million different ingredients in it, but simple is sometimes better. THE FOOD: Not the most impressive sushi, but a solidly average choice. Ordered the volcano, Godzilla, rainbow, and Chicago fire rolls. Each roll came with the standard 8 pieces. If you're into sushi that has a lot of different textures and flavors, the Godzilla, volcano? And Chicago fire will do the trick! The Chicago fire had tuna and was laid in a hot sauce base-- never experienced that in sushi before but it was not bad. Out of the three Godzilla was the best and combined crunchy and saucy flavors. As someone who likes simple and fresh sushi, the rainbow roll was my favorite. Additionally I ordered three pieces of salmon, yellowtail, and red snapper sashimi. They gave generous portions of sashimi, which I believe is one of the better qualities of this restaurant since sashimi tends to be small and expensive. The salmon was excellent and I definitely recommend. THE ENVIRONMENT: Very romantic vibe! It's dimly lit and there are private seating areas where you can sit on the floor near the windows. Definitely recommend that dining option for a date night. The wait staff was friendly and although we had one main server, each person came to check on our table at some point. read more

I stumbled upon this place because it was super close to the hotel and I felt like sushi one evening. I ordered pork sticky rice, edamames and what I thought would be a hand roll (i.e. a Temaki roll). I asked twice "are you sure it is a hand roll?" because it was quite expensive for a temaki roll, to which the guy at the counter said "yeah, sure". Unfortunately I got a full-on actual roll (California Style) which was good, but I was given two pairs of chopsticks because I assume they assumed this was a dinner for two and not a very sad dinner for one lonely man in a hotel room. But I appreciate the gesture. Still, very good sticky rice, the pork meat was savory and the rice was flavorful and well-cooked. The edamames were gigantic and the portion was quite vast as well. The roll was fine, but I would not get it again (it was kinda battered with tuna, unfortunately the filling did not have the spicy option that day so I went for the regular one). Now here is a good place for sushi in the western burbs. Whether you come here for lunch or dinner or order take-out, this place has some of the freshest sushi around. This particular location is the one of 5 Sushi House's in the burbs. This is the original and has been serving up great tasting food since 1995. Since then, they have branched out to Wheaton, La Grange, Naperville and there is also one in Kansas (just a little past Naperville, turn left- Hah!!) I am a sushi devotee and I will put this up against any that I have had in the more expensive places in the city. If I am there for lunch, I usually have the sushi luncheon special where for about $15 you get seven pieces of the chef's sushi choice for the day along with a California roll and soup. Perfect for a break from work. For dinner- I like all the rolls- the spicy tuna and spicy salmon are my favs along with maguro and hamachi nigiri. I have yet to try any of the dinner entrees but they have a wide range of choices on the menu. All in all- there is a reason that this place got Chicago Magazine's 2005 rating for one of the top 15 sushi spots in the city.
