Called in an order tonight for the wife to pick up. Easy stuff couple rolls and some spicy creamy scallops, the gal on the phone had told me she has never heard of spicy creamy scallops which is weird cause we have ordered them here several times. My wife got there and the gal had not put the order in, told her it would be like an hour cause she had other orders to put in first. This was prob 45 min after I called. We will never go back, absolutely horrible service. Too bad cause I'd like Newberg to have a good sushi place. read more

I visited Sushi Hunter within a week or so of them opening and was very pleasantly surprised by the delicious food, and attractive decor. The prices were reasonable, and my sushi was fresh and delicious. The miso soup and spicy edamame were also very tasty. I would have given 5 stars, but the service took forever. I don't think I've ever spent 90 minutes in a sushi restaurant before. Hopefully this is just a temporary kink as the staff gets in a better routine. I will definitely return to give the service another shot. read more

I just found my favorite sushi place within 30 miles! The food was very visually appealing and the taste was so fresh and good. The winner was the Yamhill roll. It took about 30 minutes for our order but it was worth the wait. The restaurant is clean, visually appealing and while the decor makes you feel like you are in a fancier sushi joint it is completely comfortable and relaxed. It's not a crowded space making it even more enjoyable. Our waiter was great! read more

Best in show (in the area, without traveling to Portland proper). Fairly priced. Food was artful on every level. Freshness and presentation are as good as it gets. Service was very attentive and quite fast. The one very slight negative is that all of the staff we interacted with don't understand English very well. For example, we tried to ask about wine corkage policy for next time. Staff didn't seem to understand the concept of corkage. They interpreted our questions as wanting to take our open beer bottles with us when we left, which is of course illegal. I think if would be ideal if they had one staff member, ideally a front of house person, with better English skills. However, our experience was overwhelmingly positive. The quality of the food puts competing restaurants in the Newberg/Dundee/Sherwood area to shame. read more

We have been to sushi hunter twice now and were willing to forgive the painfully slow service since it is a relatively new restaurant. However, I have severe food allergies (anaphylactic reaction) to kiwi, and consequently I had them clarify on our first visit they did not use any kiwi in the restaurant. The second visit we ordered the exact same "salmon lovers nigiri" however this time it had a slice of kiwi on the salmon. When I brought this to their attention, and stated that I have a severe allergy to kiwi, one that requires an epi pen and a visit to the ER, there was no offer of a refund or even an apology. I am beyond disappointed in their complete lack of concern. Needless to say we will not be going back, nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

This place is awesome. People that complain about price... do you usually get your sushi at the gas station? The prices are comparable to every sushi place I've ever been to. The service was great! We've been in for their lunch special several times (ie practically 1x/week)--it's amazing and a fantastic deal at two full size rolls for $10. It's a lovely, clean space, never overwhelmingly crowded but still busy. They seem to do a fairly big carryout business as well. We've tried several rolls, a couple of bento boxes, and our kiddo went wild for the tempura shrimp and veggies. We're very impressed and will continue to come back. Highly recommend. read more

The sushi we've ordered was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented! The atmosphere is nice and the staff are very kind and attentive. I'm so happy to have a good sushi place in newberg!! For me they have always been very fast with my orders. Even when I order to go it's always ready 10 minutes later. Haven't tried anything ther than the sushi but I think it's far superior to icky (ichi) sushi on the other side of town. read more

Our server was very good, very prompt, food was not so good. Being raised in a Japanese household, I can honestly say that the chicker teriyaki was NOT teriyaki. The tempura looked cooked on the outside but there was still raw batter on the inside, this is done by cooking it in too high heat. Lower the heat, cook it a little longer then it would be great. The only redeeming feature was the tuna nigiri. My son said it melted in his mouth, for $5.50 for two small pieces is a bit pricey. read more
