I went to this location twice, both times the customer service was lacking and I found the staff to be incredibly rude. I walked in at 8:45 for a late night bite since I live in the area and it's in walking distance . I was greeted all, the employees are just sitting their staring at me and finally and older gentleman finally walks over and the only thing he says is "we close soon, how many". I say to him, we'll it says you close at 10 .. and he then says they actually close at 930 . I chose to leave and left out. However I called back and they indeed do close at 10. Good food and excellent service but environment was so oppressive with the smoke and fried-fish smell that hits you from the first minute to the end. Sushi jin was recommended to me by a number of people before I got around to trying it. It's a tiny space in downtown silver spring so they often have a wait, but a cozy atmosphere nonetheless. Their gyoza and fire mussels are must try appetizers at a very reasonable price point. As for rolls, their lobster lasagna roll is unreal. It's baked to perfection and smothered with generous helpings of lobster, scallion, and house sauce. We also tried the burning love roll which had spicy salmon, avocado, tobiko, masago and a "flaming" sauce on top that was literally lit on fire. It was a fun presentation, but the sushi itself tasted a little bit like lighter fluid after the fire was put out... (not gonna lie I still finished it though). I would probably skip out on this second roll, not worth the hype! We also tried some of the vegan roll options which I was a huge fan of. If you are vegetarian/vegan/ just not into the whole idea of raw fish, I would recommend the Amazon roll, the April roll, the veggie futomaki, and the crazy jungle roll! read more

Aside from this location situated in the heart of downtown Silver Springs, there are two more in restaurants in Alexandria & Fairfax. This location underwent a makeover & now known as SushiJin NextDoor. The space is close knit with everything Japanese decorated throughout, with the overhead music playing a mix of Pop, Light Rock, R&B & movie themes. A wonderful & casual atmosphere serving up fresh, creative Sushi, including a nice variety of Vegetarian options. The Lemongrass Tofu was all that delightful & more. My Seaweed Salad wasn't just Seaweed in a bowl with its crisp combination of seasoned Wakame, Cabbage, Shredded Carrots tossed in a Ginger Sesame Dressing...another good choice. Our order was pretty simple as we were in agreement of Sushi satisfaction: -Boston Roll - Shrimp, Crab Stick & Cucumber -Mucho Bueno - Blue Crab, Avocado, Cucumber, -Coconut Flakes & Wasabi Drizzle -Sweet Potato Business - Fried Sweet Potato, Avocado, Cucumber & Sweet Soy Sauce Most of the Sushi comes out on one more board, request ahead of time for separation due to food allergies. I keep coming back to Sushi Jon and it does not disappoint. Today I decided to try something new on the menu so I went with the fusion salmon roll and the orange blossom roll - WOW! Out of the dishes we ordered, the takoyaki (appetizer) was surprisingly good, along with the miso ramen. The Burning Love roll was ok. Great little spot that's tucked in the heart of Downtown Silver Spring! We went on a Saturday night so it was expectedly crowded and of course parking was tricky. But, luckily, parking in DTSS in the garages are free on Saturday and Sunday. There are two parking garages that are conveniently close to Sushi Jin, and many more parking garages if you're up for a short walk. There's also street parking, but that's normally impossible on a Saturday night. My date got there early so he placed us on the waiting list, and we waited maybe a total of 15 minutes (when they told us 25 min)...not mad about that :) The restaurant itself is tiny, which kinda explains why the service isn't top notch, as others have mentioned in their reviews. You get the sense that they want to get your order, serve, and get you out--which is fine, but if you're on a date and want to sit around and chat, Sushi Jin is probably not the most ideal place to go. For the sake of business, it makes sense. Well, we still sat around and chatted for a little before leaving, and you could tell that the staff were glaring at us, hinting at the exit. Ok ok, I get it. We ordered the Burning Love, Orange Blossom and the Volcano Roll. Full disclaimer: After living in LA for several years, I've progressively gotten pickier about sushi because LA hands down has some of the best sushi places in the U.S.. So with that in mind, my sushi expectations are a little 'unrealistically' high for the DMV. That said, all the sushi was decent. It wasn't mind-blowing good, but it wasn't bad either. I'd say it was good for this area. I've ordered the cha shu ramen and miso ramen recently and both came with generous portions of protein and plenty of broth. Everything was packed with flavor. My friend and I shared the sushi dinner A and the vegetable bento box. The nigiri pieces were large, taste and texture were amazing. Don't sleep on the bento box either. They put in a lot of food from the rolls, salad and gyoza. Did not expect quality sushi in Silver Spring at all. But everything here is fresh and delicious. The taste got saltier and saltier with every bite, to the point that I could not even finish the soup. The beef used was the cut that you would get in a Korean bulgogi dish, which didn't make the ramen dish look as authentic. The saltiness must have came from the marination of the beef. As it sat in the broth, it released a lot of salt and unfortunately made the ramen dish way too salty. The host and waitstaff did not seem happy to be on the job. Expected it to be better, but it was full of bamboo shoots and too much garlic and large pieces of onion that it was way too overpowering. Could not really taste the flavor of the broth. This is even after after I've called to confirm they have kimchi. Most of the waitstaff are friendly but seem like air heads. Literally only took 3 bites to figure out if I like it or could continue to eat it. notified the manager of how it tasted off to me and asked if I could exchange it for something different and possibly pay the difference for it if there is any difference. I came to Sushi Jin intent on ordering sushi, but when I perused the menu and read about their ramen, "Our chicken broth has a deep, well developed flavor that can only be described by experiencing it," I decided to give the ramen a try. I ordered the chicken ramen. Allow me to describe it for you: This ramen was super average, nothing special, and nothing delicious. The chicken was shredded, dry, and bland. The toppings were clunky. The egg was a hard-boiled disappointment. Moral of the story: stick with sushi at Sushi Jin. (Tip: Be sure to look at the menus posted up on the wall by your table. They have restaurant specials that aren't pointed out or listed on the menu anywhere.) For appetizers, we had the takoyaki ($7, fried octopus ball) and tempura ($8). Both came out quickly. I first tried takoyaki in New York. Sushi Jin's takoyaki is definitely not as good as New York, but I applaud their efforts. The tempura had a nice mix of shrimp, sweet potatoes, broccoli, onions, and green beans and came with a dipping sauce for flavor. Overall, my table enjoyed the appetizers. I also tried the bulgogi which was tender and flavorful. Service was excellent, which is why I'm giving them four stars. We came here for lunch today and had a nice time. They were pretty busy around 1 pm. The food is still very good but a bit on the saltier side-especially the miso soup and edamame. I usually love edamame but couldn't finish it and although miso soup is supposed to be salty, this just tasted saltier than usual. I had it twice this week and I don't think it's a batch issue. I ordered the same item I got this past Friday-the veggie bento box and it comes with soooo much for for $13 so you can make it into two meals. The display itself is beautiful- looks like a box full of edible gifts. I liked the dinner bento box better that I ordered to go because it had sweet potato rolls. I think my favorite items are actually the fried tofu and dumplings. The service was also a bit slow-we had to remind them for our water and refills and felt a bit forgotten by the end of the meal when it was difficult to make eye contact and ask for the bill. However, the ambiance is pretty cozy and calming. One table seats four people do don't come here with a large group. Overall, I really like their sushi and although the service is slow, they're still nice. I'll probably stick to take out from here though. read more

We have been to this place years ago when it just opened, thought it was so-so, but since it's been here for so long and so many good reviews I thought we would give it another chance. So today we went again. The food is still mediocre. But there is absolutely no excuse for this: see the photo of my chair. When I tried to move it closer to the table, I lifted the top part and my finger got caught between when I sat down. Inured my finger pretty badly. The manager could not care less.
