I was thoroughly impressed by this place! I've been looking for a good sushi spot in the area for quite some time now and I'm glad Sushi Joint finally opened up. I went in for lunch and it was fairly empty, but that was not an indicator of the quality of food. I personally ordered two philly hand rolls, and as soon as I remember the name of the two specialty rolls I will update my review to let you know. (Might just "not remember" as an excuse to go back!) The ponzu was excellent (always a big thing for me) and the fish tasted extremely fresh. One of the rolls I ordered came with baked scallop on top and it was baked to perfection. Everything I ordered was delicious, it was my first time here after being referred by a friend and it brought me here to share with you all how satisfied I am at the moment! I placed my order over the phone and the worker gave me a 15 minute eta, I asked her if she can have it ready in 30 minutes as I'm a little further from home. As I arrived, she let me know the cook was about to be done, brought out my meal in less than a minute. I really appreciate when a business really considers their clients experience, they separated all sauces for all the rolls I ordered so that my rolls would not be soaked in sauce when I got home. I'm somewhere between a 1 and a 2, settling on a 2. I don't know where to start but it was by far the most bizarre food I've eaten at a sushi place, if I didn't know any better I'd almost say it's as if they tried some sort of whacky fusion type of cooking. There wasn't a single part of the meal that I would have called good, but there were some outlying parts that were just plain terrible. Chicken Yakisoba: Came out like sloppy chow mein that came from a can, just terrible overall, you couldn't even grab noodles with your chopsticks, it was a literal pile of mush. It was also served over a large leaf of lettuce and it just wilted into the mush pile. Gyoza Dipping Sauce: it was syrupy-sweet plum flavored and did not in any way match up with Gyoza. Salad: Dredged in sesame oil and not much else, maybe a hint of dressing. Sushi: We had Seared Tuna, Yellowtail and Albacore. Both the Albacore and Tuna were dredged in so much of some acidic sauce(almost like ponzu but not quite) that you couldn't pick the Nigiri up with chopsticks, so not only was it difficult to eat but it had a very off-putting flavor. Rolls: We had a Cheese Ebi roll and a Full Moon. Both rolls had "Shrimp" tempura in the roll but there was very little actual shrimp and more tempura batter than anything. The cheese ebi was so incredibly sweet it tasted almost like it could have been a dessert. The Full Moon was again dredged in sesame oil and fried onions so it was extremely oily and just came off as a pile of mush. The only saving grace of this place was the service which was slow, but there were 5 tables with a single server and people waiting and the phone constantly ringing. Given all this the server was working as hard as she could and we saw that. I can't see why this place is so highly rated, this is by far my most bizarre sushi experience I've ever had and I definitely won't be back for a second try. read more

Truth is, my wife and I have been patiently waiting for sometime to try this place. We live down the street and were immediately intrigued when we first saw the "coming soon" sign outside. This part of Norwalk lacks dining options and discovering a sushi place was going to occupy the space was music to our ears. Like everyone, we continued on about our business while construction took place. I even read about it in the Norwalk newsletter. However, information was limited and I didn't research the other sushi joints in Glendale and Fullerton. Fast forward to the afternoon of 08-12-19 and while on our way home, we see the "open" sign. We definitely weren't dressed for the occasion but I told my wife I wanted to pick up a menu to take home. Being the awesome wife that she is, she gave me the green light and I pulled in. To my surprise she agreed to accompany me inside despite her looking "too casual". When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by what seems like the entire staff. It was rather slow which is expected for 4:00 PM on a Monday afternoon and on opening day. I told the waitress, "Dia" that I was there for a to go menu which she graciously provided me. I reviewed the menu and was pleasantly surprised with the diversity they offer. We agreed to order a roll to go since we weren't properly dressed. However, "Dia" assured us that we weren't all that dressed down and reeled us in when she told us it was happy hour. After choosing to dine, we ordered the Norwalk Roll along with two other rolls, which I cannot seem to recall the names at the moment. We received our order very quickly and the presentation was spot on. We then proceeded to savor the rolls which were fresh, flavorful and hearty. After tasting the second roll, my wife poked me with her elbow and a whispered, "dare I say this will be our new favorite place". Needless to say, we both enjoyed our meal very much. "Dia" was super attentive and answered all our questions. We even got to meet the owner who was also warm and welcoming. Sushi Joint is a fresh breath of air to the city of Norwalk. It's clean, modern and delicious. I fully expect to see it attract more patrons as time goes on. I'm sure city workers along with courthouse employees and other sushi enthusiasts will soon discover this gem and patronize it. I for one am happy I don't have to travel to Downey, Cerritos or Artesia for a decent meal. But most importantly, I am happy that Sushi Joint made a fantastic first impression.
