"Rock N Roll" & avocado smoothie
    Ruby P.

I had one of their new specialty sushi rolls called "Rock N Roll" and avocado smoothie. Both were great. The fried sushi roll had good flavors and it was also crunchy. The avocado smoothie was creamy and delicious. It was a big serving so I drank half of it and brought the rest home. The price was on the higher end, but it wasn't too crazy, considering its nice atmosphere and quality. Would re-visit when I need to get some cheap gas near this place again lol they have other kinds of Asian foods (Chinese, Thai, etc.) and I'm interested to try next time!

Best fried rice ever. Sushi was great but the seaweed wraps were a little chewy. HUGE crab Rangoon. Literally the size of a fist. Pretty low key during the week. Gonna miss this place !!

Good service and really good sushi my new spot totally recommend. They were so nice and welcoming.

    Dragon roll and Chicago maki

It was my first time trying this local sushi spot and it was amazing. The food was great but on the pricey side. The overall ambience was peaceful. They played soft instrumental music and had a movie projected. Our server was very cheerful and kind and kept our waters full. I would highly recommend this spot!

    Sushi lunch special

The food is fantastic and the service kind! My wife and I have been enjoying a variety of Asian foods with consistent quality at Junki (rather an unfortunate name). For me, sushi is the main attraction. The variety, quality, and presentation has been consistently delightful. The salads are well dressed, the soups condimented perfectly, and the fish always tasty. For example, Saba or mackerel as nigiri or in roll seems to me that the chef has carefully cured and prepare the fish as shushi. The server we have had, a mid-age Asian-looking lady (sorry I did not asked for her name) has always been patient and very attentive to our needs at the table. Lunch is a good time to taste dishes from various regions in Asia at a reasonable price. Dinner has been a time for us to enjoy quality of food with families and friends. I do not recommend ordering food to take out, which you have to do through J Wok, the store next door. The food and service have discouraged our business at each experience we had with them. I encourage you to try Sushi Junki, which provides quality of food, great service, in a down to earth setting. Such businesses improve community life and we need to keep them around. Enjoy a culinary tour of Asian cooking!

Great sushi and excellent service. It is a nice hidden gem in a strip mall! I also enjoyed an iced bubble coffee which was delicious.

Best sushi ever. The dragon roll, rainbow roll, catapiller roll and the Godzilla roll are the best. You can also get stuff from J-wock

We tried several dishes from the menu, and everything we ordered was delicious. One thing I noticed was that the restaurant stayed pretty busy the whole time we were there. There was a steady flow of customers coming in, which is usually a good sign that the food is consistently good. Overall, it was a great experience. Good food, great ambiance, and excellent service. I can definitely see myself coming back again to try more items on the menu. Highly recommended if you're looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Oak Park

I was seated immediately upon entering on a Sunday afternoon, but there's only a limited number of private booths, so I was seated at a table that was right in the path of the breeze from the door. I asked if there was anywhere else I could be seated because it was very cold out that day and was told the bar was the only other option, so not the most comfortable dining experience. Staff and service were pleasant though. I also wish they had a full bar, they mostly only had bottled drinks that, which were kind of pricey. Overall, I would return if I was in the area, but it's nothing I'll be dreaming about. Maybe the other locations are more impressive.

Most…read moreof the food was up to its usual amazing quality, but the tempura shrimp appetizer tasted like it was fried in old grease and the smaller items were way overdone and tasted burnt. And the only desert available was lava cake - no mochi ice cream, but by the time we asked about desert, we really did not feel welcomed. Here is why. The thing that was annoying and uncomfortable was the feeling of being rushed and that we were keeping everyone there. We showed up at 9pm and immediately felt like we were putting everyone out. We even felt the need to reconfirm that the closing time was 10pm. People were trying to take our plates before we were finished. Waitstaff were saying they had completed their closing to the person who must have been the manager where we could hear it. When we advised the server that we did not want any more sushi, she turned at our table and yelled back to the sushi bar "no". Plates were being restocked noisily right behind us. All of this well before the 10pm closing time. This was a birthday celebration that we had hoped to relax and enjoy believing we had an hour to settle in. From the time we sat down we were given the impression that everybody could not wait until we left. This is unfortunate, since, in the past, we have enjoyed the food and the welcoming atmosphere. We decided to come to Sushi House because of the later closing time. My opinion is if the closing time is 10pm, diners should feel welcomed until that time. We did not.

What I love most is the versatility...you have the traditional sit-down dining area, and then on the other side (toward the back/left), there's the hibachi grill. Whether you're in the mood to relax and be served or want something fresh off the grill, you've got options. Now, I'll be honest, the line can get long, especially on Sundays right when they open at noon. But it's absolutely worth the wait. Everything is fresh and made to order, and I've never had a bad experience here. Some of my go-to favorites include the egg foo young, Mongolian beef, spicy egg rolls, and spicy crab rolls...but honestly, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is always friendly and welcoming, which makes a difference. The atmosphere has a little bit of buzz to it, but it's not overwhelming, you can still enjoy your conversation without feeling like you're shouting over noise. Overall, this is a five-star go-to spot for me. Consistent, flavorful, and reliable every single time. If you're in the Chicagoland area, especially near Elmwood Park, New Star is definitely worth checking out.

First, I was told they were waiting for a table to open up. Then they were waiting on a cook. Finally, a staff member said the people at our reserved table were still eating and they were waiting for them to get up. When I asked when our table would actually be ready, she laughed, threw her hands up, and said she didn't know. What made the situation even worse was watching other customers walk in and be seated while we continued to wait. From what I observed, Black families were waiting extended periods of time, while White and Mexican customers were seated much more quickly. A party of 15 that arrived well after us was even seated before my group. I am deeply disappointed and disgusted by the treatment my family received on my mother's birthday. This would have been her first hibachi experience, and instead it was ruined by poor customer service and what appeared to be unfair treatment. I will never return and would not recommend this restaurant based on my experience.

I'd ordered Homura, and stepped away to wash my hands. Just as I was sitting down, the bowl of hot fresh goodness was placed in front of me. Even when the place was busy, the service remains lighting-quick! friendly and attentive too! As for the bowl, it was absolutely fantastic! Upon mixing, everything went together perfectly. The flavors were tremendously savory and rich, with accents from the egg, seasonings, veggies, and a healthy amount of meat. The noodles were cooked perfectly too! The bowl was perfect as is, and needed nothing. I was worried the bowl would be dry, but this couldn't be farther from the truth, especially with the ladle of liquid on the bottom, everything was perfect! Now, there are various seasonings and flavor enhancers on the table, but they weren't needed, in my opinion. If you do choose to add some, be careful, as some pour fast and heavy! After happily slurping this thing down in record time, I also ordered a single helping of Chashu, as I generally love it and wanted to try. It too was brought to me in no time, and was thin, well balanced, and melted in my mouth. Where it comes to value, the bowl was $13.50, and the slice of chashu was $1.50, IIRC. Great, especially in light of what everything costs nowadays. Final verdict: Kajiken came, and it DELIVERED. Everything from start to finish was top notch, and for a very fair value of $13.50 for a fresh, tasty, and filling bowl of goodness.

But the ambiance of the restaurant was really nice and clean, decorated with lanterns and a wood themed interior The ramen was pretty lackluster - the noodles were very tough and under done and the broth was less savory than I would've liked for a tonkotsu. For a $20+ dish I felt the portions were disappointing, especially since I think I was missing some toppings Overall, id be down to eat here again and would probably have a better experience the second time around if dining in instead
