Had a nice patio lunch here. Their patio isn't that big, maybe 5-6 tables, so seating is real limited these days. During these Covid times, my sushi consumption has dropped significantly as I don't really care for sushi in take-out format. And very few mom/pop sushi places have outdoor dining, so it really crimps my cravings. Enter Sushi Ko. Full service and food that exceeded my expectations. I rarely go into a restaurant without scoping a few reviews at least. But here, we just took the plunge without looking, because 1) all other patios on this upscale strip were too busy for comfort; 2) dine-in sushi, in a relaxed fashion, just couldn't pass up the opportunity. But upon sitting and waiting for service, I then look them up. 3 stars, uh oh, and we were already seated, whoops. Too late, and was just gonna go with it. And after ordering a few things for a light lunch, I was more than satisfied. Way exceeded my 3 star expectations. All products were fresh and adequately portioned. Everything was presented nicely and cleanly. But the standout trait for me was the proportioning of sushi rice to fish here. The rice never overwhelmed the protein. Here even though things looked on the small side, every bite was totally in balance, and that is more of a thing for me by a mile, than straight size or quantity. Oshitashi ($6/4.5*) Perfectly vibrant steamed and chilled spinach is pressed and molded and usually served in a pool of dashi. I love getting this with a sushi outing and munch on it throughout the meal as vegetative break and palate cleanser. The spinach was perfect. The dashi was a little on the sweet side, probably due to Mirin, but still a decent rendition. I like smokier notes from dried bonito. Shiro Maguro Nigiri ($7/5*) As good as local albacore can get. They must use meat real close to the belly, as it just melts with the press of a really soft bite. Nice long slice also to encompass the nicely cooked sushi rice. Saba Nigiri ($6.50/4.5*) I use this as a barometer on the sushi chef's skills and style. We match! Love the cure here, a tad salty but cures the mackerel flesh. Oily without it being fishy. I'm ordering multiple of these on the next visit. Trust. 8 oz carafe of chilled sake (Meibo Yowano Tsuki) ($25/4*) Nicely chilled and nice little sipping cups. Pricey but so compatible with a sushi outing. Negitoro Roll ($11/5*) Hamachi belly meat, green onion, rice and nori. Nuff said. Ok I'll add perfecto. Hamachi/Tobiko Roll ($9/4*) For what it was, it was nicely executed. I wasn't expecting cucumbers in there, and there was just as much cucumber as there were fish, so... But the ratios were nice and all in balance. Long stalls with the service, but that's more common now than it ever had been in the past. With the sake and nicely presented food, there were no hurrying anyways. Thanks for the pleasant surprise Sushi Ko, you're more than 3 stars in my book. read more

We have been going to Sushi Ko for 10 years. Food was great, and had been for years. Our last visit before last night was mid April. We were disappointed by last nights dinner. We ordered the roasted mushrooms and each of us had a roll. My Catapillar roll was essential falling apart and the tempura shrimp inside was barely noticeable. The mushrooms usually have a deep roasted color and the flavor is of a reduced soy with garlic. It was undercooked and lacked the typical flavor strong umami flavor. After paying, per usual, we received the Toast receipt which stated our payment to Pizza Antica .... Odd. Of course, we will give Sushi Ko another try. read more

We came here to pick up a quick lunch. However, they had an outside dining area open, and we were the only customers, so we decided to stay. We ordered two avocado rolls and two salmon rolls. They were pretty good, simple sushi rolls. However, the one down side was overly salted rice. Our server was friendly, even agreeing to let more air by opening the side of the tent. They only have small packets of soy sauce, our waiter wore a mask the entire time, and everyone seemed to take social distancing seriously. Hubby and I went for lunch. I got the lunch special for $15 and it was perfect. Teriyaki chicken, Potstickers, panko crusted salmon, salad, rice, miso and salad. I could only eat half of it. The on and off policy on restrictions made life miserable for everyone. Finally we have indoor dining back!! Sushi Ko is one of favor lunch spot. Very very limited outdoor dining .... but the food makes up for it! Went there with my friend today (weather was not ideal, but it was very pleasant) Highly recommend the Demon Slayer sake & the Murai "Tokubetsu" sake! We also had the Goyza , Chicken Katsu , Philadelphia rolls, Spider Rolls , Taukemono and another dish that had fresh salmon, rice roe and a couple of other items. All of the items were freshly prepared and the service was great. Would have given it five stars had we known ahead of time indoor dining was not allowed (even though this is allowed in most places in Marin County) and if they put A little more thought/effort into the outdoor seating situation. There's no way the food price per value is worth the amount and size of items that you get. The rolls we ordered here are at least half or 3/4ths the size of rolls found at nearby sushi bars... I'd rather drive there than here. Plus, servers completely ignored my group for three other couples that were in line behind us. They themselves didn't have a reservation! What is up with that? Discrimination much? I won't go into too much detail but come on, have some class... Fellow ethnic background but doesn't even greet us. I had to approach them to get our party of four seated. Lost in Marin....again. I have to be completely honest and admit I would have never come to this place, but I was forced to find a one-hour dining option between seminars I was attending at Book Passage in Corte Madera. I just knew Larkspur Landing was at the next freeway exit up 101, so I thought I should take a chance. The other places in the center looked to be boisterous eateries full of baby-buggy-bumping parents looking to swill a few before their kids become alcoholics on their own. Sushi-Ko is not bad for the money. I was hungry since I missed my lunch break, so I went all out. I had the $12.75 Rainbow Roll (see my photo), a very nicely put-together cornucopia of bait, done in the style of a reverse-California Roll, very tasty. I also ordered a $5.75 Hamaichi Asparagus Maki, which did look like a California Roll (see my photo). It was good but the asparagus a tad too crunchy for my taste. As my sides, I went for the standard bowl of Edamame, which I thought was steep for $3.75 until I saw the bowl overflowing with the soybeans. Then there was the $3.50 Oshitashi (spinach), drowning in soy sauce, and a little too packed to eat with comfort. The place was buzzing most of the time I was there, though I managed to get a table for two with a minimum of stinkeye from the suburban trolls gunning for fish-eating real estate. I may even come back if I'm in the area. My husband and I are trying really hard to support local restaurants during Covid but this was just over priced and not great food. This was our first time getting take out from here and we were really excited. I got the Volcano roll which was 10/10 amazing. A bit pricy at $18 but delicious. When we ordered the Kelp salad I thought at $10 it would be big enough to share, I was wrong. It was very small. The kelp wasn't washed properly so it was really gritty as I was eating it. My husband got the teriyaki beef and it was tough, fatty and just disappointing. There wasn't enough teriyaki sauce and at $26 I expect the cut of meat to be better. Definitely will not be going back. Samurai and Robata are much better for better pricing. read more

The tempura was good as well, but thick slices of yams (sweet potatoes) were too starchy; would have been nice to have some mushrooms or onion rings as well for variety . . . Wow. I can barely wrap my head around how bad our experience was here tonight. We hadn't been here in a number of years (this is an updated review) and went tonight to celebrate a birthday dinner. To start with, our gyoza appetizer had a hair in it and the water glasses weren't clean (lip prints from previous diners) - serious ick, especially in a pandemic. This was followed by half of our order being wrong and then waiting a rather long time for the correct rolls to come out. After the meal we ordered dessert (hard to mess up mochi right?) but literally mere minutes after bringing it out the restaurant gave us the check and asked us to pay quickly and leave because they had "another reservation". We hadn't even been there very long and had spent a chunk of that time waiting for the correct food to come out. The kicker was that the check was incorrect (overcharging us for multiple items we didn't order) but we paid it just to be done since they were hustling us to leave. But then after we'd actually gotten up, they came with a second check as they'd forgotten to charge us for dessert. After the whole thing, that felt like missing the whole idea of customer service. The food was mediocre at best and the service left quite a bit to be desired. The meal definitely felt overpriced for what it was. There are many better Japanese options in Marin and those cost less to boot. To cap it off I found something sticky and brown on the kneecap of my pants which apparently was something on the underside of the table (just eew!) Sadly this is not all that went awry, just the really notable stuff. My husband and I agree this is one of the worst dining experiences we've had in many, many years. read more

Stay away from ordering delivery as it increases the price at least 30% of the order volume. First time I've Eating sushi Ko LLarkspur Landing/marine country Mart in years. I give five stars for the Cordiality of the gentleman who waited on me. The chicken was not fresh chicken breast. Seemed like the stuff you buy at Costco that's shaped perfectly and has pho grill marks on it. Then gets thrown on the Sushiko grill for additional grill marks. Barely broccoli. Went with my coworker after a long day. It was quite crowded with 3 or 4 guests waiting for tables. I asked the hostess if the bar was open seating and she said yes. As we were heading for the bar a guy said to the hostess I changed my mind I want to sit at the bar. She stopped us and said he needs to sit there, I will have a table in 5 minutes. Definitely overpriced for the portion and consistency of food. Miso soup doesn't come with your meal like it does at many other Japanese restaurants. If you want miso soup here it's an additional $3.50. Chicken was dry and tough. Tempura was mushy like it had been reheated. Tonkatsu came with plum sauce instead of the usual sauce it comes with. There's a 20% gratuity for parties 6 or more. Service was awful, never refilled water once not even when we asked. Heading to Shake Shack next door for better food. read more

I have been coming here for years. Always my go-to sushi place in Marin. The sushi chefs are masters. The staff is always doting and polite. The fish is always perfect. Their miso is unassuming and simple in the best way. They have changed it is true, but not the chefs or the quality. I prefer a finer more refined presentation of sashimi, sushi and maki so their present style suits me just fine. Family friendly and yet appropriate for a first date, I'd highly recommend them. read more

We went for lunch at noon on a Tuesday and were seated immediately. We opted for the bar. We ordered a rainbow roll & salmon nigiri and Miso cod and tempura shrimp & vegetables. The entrees came with Miso soup which was yummy. The stand out dish was the miso cod. The sauce was a little too sweet for my preference but my friend loved it. The temperature and texture were excellent. The sushi was high quality, delicious and beautifully presented. Service was good. I was very happy with it for a quick and delicious lunch. read more
