I had to check our bag to make sure it's all good since we've had many mishaps (missing/wrong items) in other establishments, but what I noticed immediately was the packaging. Each box was beautifully and elegantly presented. Each item was placed with gentle and loving care. So so thoughtful that as busy as they were, the chefs took the time to translate their craftsmanship from their heart...It was truly felt. Our plan was to transfer the items onto our nice plate ware but that was simply not necessary. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful and amazing. Service was less than impressive, menu is horribly designed no pictures not enough descriptions. I ordered one thing for another. The only thing that was actually really good was the black cod from the appetizer menu, it literally melted in your mouth. I was headed to Tennessee Valley and craving sushi. This was the closest place to where I was at the time so I decided to give it a try. It's given better ratings on Google. I got the sushi lunch special to-go and thought it was really good! The rice is a bit too vinegar-y for me bit the fish was really tasty! I'm not sure I like the ambience enough to eat there (it's kind of heavy) but I'd definitely order a to-go meal again. read more

Came here after 8 years? Time flies! Still the same. On a hot day after the SF Giants game and taking the Larkspur Ferry to it, we came to this former regular hangout because of familiarity and they have air conditioning! The owner still seats you, the staff has all recycled, the menu offerings have changed to feature yada yada whateva rolls ( that's what most Marinites would call sushi) and just add a few dollars to the prices I quoted. Like a "glass" (actually a small bottle in a nice iced serving pitcher) of Otokoyama ("Man Mountain") is $10.50. The combos (bento) range around $21 and miso soup is not included. I am so sad :( I had a BUG on my hamachi sashimi today. I called over the wait person, she shrugged, took it away, came back with another piece. Needless to say, appetite ruined. AND at $22.00 for a 12 piece lunch, I did not get a sorry, or a reduced price, nada. When Shinosan, the hostess came by to ask how things were I told her. She went to the sushi area, came back and said, no, you wrong, it seaweed. Seaweed on cutting board. My response was, "since when does seaweed have little legs?" I have eaten many a lunch here, plunked down good money, but I won't be back. Still, no sorry, nada, just a stupid seaweed excuse when it was most certainly a bug, which resembled a flea! Sushi Ko was one of the first Sushi restaurants in Marin. I used to eat here often. But over the years I've moved and I've reserved my restaurant visits in Marin to newer places. But I had to get someone to the airporter and this was convenient. The first thing I'll say is that the mall really needs to enforce parking. It took 10 minutes to find parking at 11:00 on Wednesday because of the all the people parked(illegally) for the ferry. The place itself hasn't changed in 20 years. It still has the look of a sushi bar circa 1985. The food isgood, few crazy modern rolls, just decent, fresh sushi. Awesome sushi restaurant next to Brewco in Larkspur Landing for lunch take out - different pricing than dinner. It's always fresh, and the place is quite busy. The kids love this place while watching the sushi chefs make their favorites. We easily got carried away, ordering over $120 worth of sushi dinner. From combination sashimi, special rolls, nigiri, to desserts, everything was colorful and the service was attentive (lunch & dinner). read more

We love Japanese food and my kids ask for it all the time. I've tried many of the spots in Southern Marin and am always happy with the experience I have here. The waiters have always been kind to our family, the food comes out quickly and we leave full and happy. The prices are reasonable if you dine in or take out and they package everything beautifully. It took us more than half an hour to be seated then another half an hour to get our order. The service was terrible. They never refilled our tea and it took them too long to fetch some ginger and Wasabi that they forgot to bring with the sushi in the first place. Unless the menu says "raw" when ordering Maki rolls you'll get some type of cooked fish. It's more American than Japanese. Everything was drenched in sweet sause. Soy sauce at the table was almost gone and we had to finish our rolls dry. We got dragon, volcano, caterpillar and one more that i forgot the name of. Disliked all of them. read more

We tried 6 different rolls and loved each of them. High quality sushi that is comparable to what I used to get in San Francisco. Yum!!

Just a ferry ride away to Larkspur Landing. Maybe I'm just sentimental, maybe I really can't get over how good the sushi here is. Maybe its that an old friend of mines Mother owns it. Sushi Ko is the very first place I had sushi. I thought it would be horrid. I remember it clearly, hamachi with ginger and a teeny lemon on top. Melted in my mouth. I couldn't stop eating it. Ate there for years after while I lived over there. Then moved away. Went back not too long ago. Nothing had changed. But the newest appetizer......Halibut Carpaccio. Paper thin slices of halibut in a sweet but vinegarish sauce....was so good I could have made a whole meal out of it. But it was less expensive to order the sushi. The fish here is so fresh and so tender. If you have a hankering for sushi and you happen to be in Larkspur over in Marin County you should definitely try this place. read more

Usually, there's not enough room on the table for the grub I order. I have a huge appetite. As you've read, they have quality sushi here. No worries about the food...The only thing I was worried about while at the sushi bar: MY LOW-RISE G-STRING LOW ENOUGH? UPDATED April 1, 2007! The recent revisit DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Try the Hamachi Kama next time you stop by for dinner. If you're thinking King of the Roll (also in Larkspur) to save a little...spend the extra $20-30 on your bill and drive to the Larkspur Landing instead. They shouldn't even be in the same sentence, but I'm writing this for those who do not know. I'm giving Sushi-Ko five (5) stars because the quality of sushi has never been compromised. We've been going here since 2000 (when we moved to Marin), and Sushi-Ko has never disappointed us. The chef is quite inventive, too. You can bet on traditional Japanese fare, and also experience Japanese-European fusion. Well, that's how I'd describe the pan-fried oysters. The sauce has Spanish chorizo, I think. I should verify. It's yummiest at its best. Please also try the baked scallops. This will be updated next time I visit. Sometime this week. Service is good. Came here with a few colleagues for work. Pretty solid, though nothing special. Two of us ordered the sushi lunch meal, and one went with the deluxe. I spied a few teriyaki and tempura lunch specials at other tables, which looked huge and more exciting than the sushi. Might go with that next time, if I visit again. :p read more

Waitress was all smiles and helped us pick the best rolls (my interpretation is big, body beautiful deliciously packed with flavor for my Adele figure rolls lol) sooooo... We ordered edamame, x2 miso soups and 2 waters. We got the Junmai Otokoyama (mans mountain) sake (COLD... De-lici-ous !!!) Funny, I forgot that I reviewed this 9 months ago. Again, I was there with the daughters and sat at the bar. The crowd was good but not full and it allows you time to converse with the chefs, I learned a few things. Generally, my review is the same. The King Salmon nigiri was really good as were the rolls that we had. I would say that it's probably not as good as Kirala in Berkeley but it sure is easier to get in which, to me, makes for an enjoyable meal. read more

With the rude customer service, expensive average food, and with many superior options, I will never go back. I politely asked one of the servers (not ours) to please close the front door because of the very cold breeze directly hitting us; or to kindly move us to another table. With very little acknowledgment, she closed the door. Minutes later she re-opened the door without saying anything or giving us an option to move. I again asked her to please close the door and she rudely said that she's very busy and has to go in and out of the door to serve outside. probably my favorite sushi place in marin! good fresh ingredients and tasty japanese fare. my party got the salmon teriyaki, kani nigiri, a shrimp tempura roll + a lobster tempura roll and everything was delicious. it's also a really elegant environment with a nice outdoor seating area and it's open pretty late which is a plus as most marin restaurants usually go to sleep pretty early. location-wise, it's perfect if you want to grab a dessert or pastry from the market. would recommend if looking for a sushi place to go to in marin! read more

The chicken teriyaki was tough and dry. Definitely frozen consistency. What Japanese entree does not come with miso soup. They charge you an extra $3.50 for miso soup. Pork cutlet with Plum sauce? I have been going to Sushi Ko in Larkspur for the past 10 years and found it enjoyable. I went last week and was assaulted with very loud music. I asked them to please turn it down or I would have to leave. They responded: "we aren't turning it down. Feel free to leave." Rudeness to customers is becoming the norm in Marin. read more

The entire set up was incredible, the staff also was more than great, I would love to give this place a full five stars, however having the place packed (amazing for business and a boost in confidence about the food ) and only had one server on duty did cause a long wait time to be sat down and finally get to order and receive a glass of water. Great sushi. Been here a handful of times and have always been impressed by the freshness of the fish and the flavours. My biggest con is the price. Three (non-specialty) rolls rack up to around $40. Their average price looks to be about $16 per roll, which is quite a bit on the high-end. We have been repeat customers since the 1980's. After Fleet Week, we decided to make a reservation on our way home. On the phone they barely spoke English and in person spoke it fluently. It took several minutes for the waitress to take our order. In the meantime water was served. Then when we finally ordered, my husband and Son-in-law ordered teriyaki dinners. My daughter and granddaughter and myself ordered sushi rolls. My husband and son-in-law were served first..handed their dishes across the table (serve from the left remove from the right) . By the time the men finished, our super skimpy sushi rolls showed up or at least mine and my granddaughter's did. My daughter's roll showed up after ours were finished. Nobody stopped by to see if we were enjoying our meal just if we wanted dessert or the bill. We weren't rude customers, we were just hungry. The bus person made sure dirty dishes were taken away and our water was filled. Kudos to him. I don't know if it's under new management but definitely new help and possibly inexperienced in the food industry. read more

Incredibly overpriced. The most creative roll on the menu is a dragon roll. And it's $16.00. The rolls are small and fall apart, and the flavor is bland. Even the edamame was expensive. Do yourself a favor, and head 10 minutes North to Yushang. Wack-attack. read more

My family of five stopped here on my way to Muir Woods. It was three adults and two kids one of them being under five. five-year-old did not even eat. Sushi was OK. Nothing out of the ordinary.When we were ready to check out I noticed a 20% gratuity added to our bill. I know as a rule of thumb 20% is added for a group of six people and over. When I asked our server, he said it was for groups of five people and over. I knew for a fact I had seen a sign at the entrance that stated that groups of six a gratuity fee would be added to the bill when I mentioned this to our server, he pretended to go check the door. I paid the bill and walked out of the restaurant, hoping to see the sign again, to my surprise they had taken down the sign before they had given us the bill I would have added the 20% gratuity anyways but the way they did it was very shady.
