Had a great experience when coming here for a date night. It's very nice and quite intimate spot for a casual date night. I wish the lighting was warming and maybe dimmer to make it more cozy and intimate but I understand it's probably because people want bright lighting. Food was great. My favorite was the Kamikaze roll! We also had the caterpillar roll which was very good and had a more savory taste and none of the spice hint that the kamikaze roll has. So I loved both. Also had the super Philly roll and it is very filling! Meant to be shared for sure if you're ordering a lot. We did 6 rolls in total and 8 orders of nigiri plus a seaweed salad. Wanted to try Sushi Koma for the price of $19.95 for lunch. Can't beat that. Sushi was ok, a lot of nigiri's had garlic sauce or some other kind of sauce. It was just ok to me. My kids also said it was just ok. The fish to rice ratio was a lot more rice than fish. Our usually spot is more fish than rice. I enjoyed the tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, salmon belly nigiri, tuna belly nigiri. They were edible. Service was good. It was a lady with Golden State Warrior hat. She was friendly and compassionate. We were very disappointed with our experience at Sushi Koma. The first issue was the restrooms. There was no toilet paper, no soap, and no toilet seat covers, which was concerning from a cleanliness and hygiene standpoint. The menu was also very limited, and unfortunately, the quality of the food did not make up for it. The fish did not taste fresh and seemed more like it had been defrosted. Several pieces were served at room temperature rather than chilled and refreshing. The nigiri was especially disappointing. The hamachi was warm and mushy when I expected it to be cold and firm. The salmon was also warm and tasted like it had been sitting at room temperature. The rice portions were excessive and the rice was falling apart, yet they charge for uneaten rice, which made the experience even more frustrating. Even the water was room temperature and had a strong tap-water taste. As far as the atmosphere, the restaurant was very bright and lacked much of a vibe or ambiance--it felt pretty plain and boring. Between the restroom conditions, limited menu, room-temperature fish, poor texture and freshness, and overall atmosphere, we left very disappointed. The server let us know that they were currently offering a $19.99 AYCE lunch special, which I thought was a really nice incentive. Their menu was quite extensive so we narrowed down our "must-have" items that we always tend to order when we go out for sushi. We started off with a few of their appetizers, nigiris, and sushi rolls. The food came out really fast and our server was very attentive to our needs. A range of appetizers, nigiri, and rolls. Would skip the fried apps as they're of the frozen pedestrian variety. But special shout out for the yellowtail nigiri which was very tasty such that we got a second round of just it. Salmon roe was satisfying. Last night was only the second time coming here and I don't think we will ever be back. If it wasn't an hour wait at smile shota then this review wouldn't even be made today. Called ahead and asked if we came a little earlier than 9:00pm if they would honor the $23.99 price per person. The gentleman on the line said that he would. We got there and we were in at 8:53pm and the waitress said that she would not honor the price.....even though the gentleman that I spoke to said otherwise.......strike one. Since we are pros ordering AYCE sushi, we ordered our usuals since every AYCE spot mainly has the same items. Food came and came fast. It was okay with a good rice to sushi ratio, but the only thing that bothered me was the lack of checking on our table for water and such and then as soon as we were done, they constantly asked if "we were finished", as if to tell us they were kicking us out. All while the table behind us had been there before we got there and is still there when we leave and I didn't hear anyone asking them if "they were done yet". That's a strike 2. Most annoying thing is we are with my daughter who is only 7 and she has to pay full price too.....strike 3. Now I know why they weren't packed like the other spectacular AYCE sushi spots in the southwest like It's Sushi, Smile Shota, Mr. Shota, and Sumo Sushi. Even though the sushi was ok, we will wait the extra 30 to 45 minutes going to restaurants where the customer service is impeccable and they do not rush you out so quickly. Plus, they have happy hour twice a day at $19.99 AYCE. I went at 1:00p yesterday. I ordered a few rolls, one of them a baked roll. The fresh roll was named the ponzio. It's a tuna and avocado roll wrapped with albacore and garlic ponzu sauce. The baked roll named the pania which had shrimp, tuna, cream cheese, koma sauce, drizzled with eel sauce. They both were good size and super tasty. Had a few standard rolls as well. I got a few egg rolls which were just okay for me. My son ordered a roll named the kamikaze which I highly, highly recommend. It's a spicy tuna roll wrapped with baked eel, avocado and eel sauce, prepared very well. I came for the $20 AYCE lunch, and it was pretty underwhelming. Some of the salmon nigiri came out still partially frozen, and a few pieces of rice were hard and dry. They had baked green mussels which were pretty good but overly cheesy. The deep fried oysters were bland. The bulgogi was somehow watery and the meat was minced into tiny, tiny pieces. The rolls were decent, but nothing that stood out. I also ordered the brie and grape quesadilla, which sounded interesting, but it came with whole sliced grapes inside..... A jam would've worked much better. Some of the staff was a bit standoffish, but the inside is nice. I think the only items that were excluded was the Uni and sweet shrimp otherwise everything else in the menu was available for the special. Pretty wide selection of Nigiri, rolls/hand rolls, and appetizers. They even had Halibut and Escolar which you don't usually see on an AYCE menu. The service was quick and friendly. Me and my girlfriend were excited for this place we love sushi. We've been to multiple sushi places but had never been here so we decided to give it a chance and ontop of that found out it was happy hour - We were very excited. Our server was an older Asian lady - Korean I think in her 40s or early 50s. She was pretty rude and unfriendly, barely made eye contact but I overlooked it initially as everyone has their bad days. Despite the rude treatment, we continued being polite to her, thanking her for her efforts and food. It's the first time we've gone to a food establishment and felt hesitant to.... ORDER FOOD. However she crossed the line when I was asking for an order and literally out of nowhere she asked me "iS tHeRe AnYtHiNg eLsE?" With a condescending tone as she shook her head and gave me a dirty look - as if I was an inconvenience.She was also rude to the customers sitting behind us. We were within our allotted time limit and it's not like we were ordering excessive amounts of food either. For reference I'm a 145lbs man and my girlfriend is 120lbs.
