Still one of the BEST omakase in the County!! If you LOVE sushi...it does not get any better than Murasaki. Authentic, delicious, and amazing. Every bite is a journey through your senses. Cannot wait to come back. Service is TOP NOTCH.

The first time I discovered Sushi Murasaki was back in my early 20s. I would go often for their comfort meals. The menu back then was very extensive. For a while, I stopped going because I was working quite a distance away in the other direction. Now that I work a few doors down from the restaurant, I finally made a quick visit there for lunch. I ordered the chirashi zen, which comes with a wide variety of food on a tray. It comes with your bowl of chirashi (and there is a good selection in the bowl outside of the typical salmon and tuna), chawanmushi, tempura, and, miso soup for $40. The inside looks the same as I had remembered it to be. It's a nice place for a date or solo dining.

Great spot for sushi! I called in advance to get a reservation and was able to come in Saturday for lunch. The quality of the omakase sushi was really good, each piece melted in your mouth! So delicious. I paired it with a sake flight and it hit the spot. It wasn't too busy when I went and the food came out pretty quickly. Would love to come back!

Weird location, zero regrets. Authentic Japanese-owned, all Japanese staff - the real deal, not a costume. The $130 omakase was worth every penny. Attentive, friendly, and the kind of experience where you lose track of time in the best way. Already planning the return visit.

4.5 stars. One of our favorite sushi places in OC. Love that every nigiri sushi comes with its own seasoning to create its own unique flavor profile. It's a bit pricey ($110 for the 12-piece omakase) so this is more of a splurge meal rather than a casual luncheon. Service is prompt but the sushi chef doesn't talk much...some might prefer this. :)

Located in an unassuming strip mall as it was the only dining establishment among other businesses. Inside is small where the bar seats about 10-11 people. They have a few spots for table seating. I called to make reservations for 3 and requested the sushi bar area and was advised it's for omakase dining only. They accommodated my request even though it was only 2 of us partaking as my daughter won't eat omakase. It was a great experience having a combo of small dishes along with nigiri. Fish was fresh and flavorful and portioned well with rice. This will be another add to my rotation of omakase places I frequent. Hopefully we come often enough as the chef was quite stoic and serious.

I first visited Sushi Murasaki nearly 20 years ago, and the fact that they're still here says a lot, they must be doing something right. I haven't been here in many years. Coming back after so long sent me down memory lane, thinking about who I was then versus now. There's a strange softness to moments like that, realizing time moves whether we're ready or not. Funny how a familiar doorway can remind you of everything you've gained and everything you've quietly lost along the way. But let's get to the food. The place sits in a business-style plaza, not exactly surrounded by restaurants, but it has its own understated charm. Plenty of free parking. Inside, it's calm and cozy with just a few tables, and ~10 seats at the sushi bar. The decor is simple, and so is the menu. Nothing fancy, just as I remember from two scores ago. Kay was our server. Warm, attentive, and pleasant. I ordered a 6 piece sashimi, and everything was tasty. The one downside: they were out of sweet shrimp during my visit, which was a letdown since it's usually a must order for me. Still, Sushi Murasaki has that quiet, enduring consistency that keeps people returning, even after decades.

Love love love this place! We always go for the Murasaki course. It has enough omakase sushi pieces and warm dishes. Highly recommend! Best price for wonderful omakase in OC.

Our very favorite omakase spot. The nigiri is consistently good (fresh and springy as my husband would put it) and all the staff is so kind and wonderful. The two japanese chefs (and I think owners?) know their craft. I've taken a few people here and they all love it. We're not from the area but every time we visit so cal, this is one of our go-to spots because of the quality of food and the prices are so reasonable ($95 for 10 pieces, $115 for 12 pieces, or $135 for 8 pieces and 6 appetizers). Drinks are also really spot on. Make a reservation and ask to sit at the bar so you can enjoy omakase. Can't wait to return.

Just as a preface, I order with less rice and no wasabi. I absolutely love eating here. It's a very nice environment, cozier but not small, with a great consistent team. Fish is delicious, with many options for the omakase and different price points and you can order outside of it as well. Great appetizers as well!

Hi BluGummites! You know this little gummy bear doesn't like to have to do this... but Sushi Murasaki was a big disappointment why didn't I leave when I walked in? why didn't I leave when the two male chefs - (who I believe are the owners from the quick BG research BG conducted) - gave off an unwelcoming, judgmental vibes? quite literally looking a bear up and down why didn't I leave when salmon sashimi wasn't on the menu? ...at a SUSHI restaurant? The only welcoming thing about the joint was the kind female server thank you, madame thank you for your light in an otherwise dark pit of ego, pretentiousness, and VERY average sushi your target was eclectic-ness and uniqueness - I get it but you missed now, this lil bear wouldn't have been so harsh just now if those two behind the sushi bar were kind if they gave off even an iota of warmth or gratitude that I spent my time and money in their establishment (also... WAY too expensive) Anyways - please do better. Get over yourselves. and so I've gotta give a 4 out of 10 blue gummies

The sushi here was really high quality for a decent price. I went with the 10 sushi omakase and definitely wasn't disappointed. I'd recommend getting an appetizer or two to go along with this to really be full. I also got a sparkling sake that paired really well with the sushi. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The sushi bar gave a very private feel. I'd definitely recommend coming to check this place out.

Sushi Murasaki was a delightful surprise with a wonderfully warm atmosphere, thanks largely to the incredible staff. Everyone there greeted us with genuine smiles and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. But the real star of the show was Chef Dai, whose kindness shone as brightly as his culinary skills. Watching him prepare each plate was like watching an artist at work--meticulous and utterly attentive to every detail. His interaction with us wasn't just professional; it was genuinely engaging, adding a personal touch that made our dining experience truly special. Overall, Sushi Murasaki isn't just about great sushi; it's about great people making great food. Which happens to be the essence of omakase in my opinion.

    Do they take Apple Pay?

    Yes

    Is this place kids friendly?

They don’t discriminate against kids But let’s be real here… nobody wants your little rug rats ruining their nice evening out at a high end sushi joint. Take em to the go…

Can they accommodate for a gluten allergy?

Does the omakase also come with appetizers?

When we were there in March of this year, the omakase did not include appetizers nor dessert.

When we went in late March, we paid $100 for 12 pcs.

Would you be able to bring a toddler here?

    ABSOLUTELY NOT.

no outdoor dinning....they did takeout during covid but not sure about now.

This place nickel and dimes customers for everything. We were charged $6 just to add cucumber to a roll, $4 to add gobo, and even an extra charge to add lemon. The biggest issue wasn't even the prices, it was that our waiter never mentioned any of these upcharges when we ordered. If you're going to charge premium prices for simple additions, customers deserve to be told beforehand. We've eaten at countless sushi restaurants over the years, and we've never been charged these kinds of fees for basic add-ons, especially without any warning. It felt deceptive and left a terrible impression. Restaurants don't lose customers over a few dollars. They lose them when customers feel misled. Transparent pricing builds trust. Hidden charges destroy it. We won't be coming back, and unfortunately, we can't recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an honest dining experience.

The food still tastes just as good as before. They've changed the menu slightly but my go-to rolls are still there. The waitress was very helpful in introducing us to the new ordering system, and we worked out the kinks pretty quickly. We came in at around 2pm on a Friday, so ordering was quick and the food came out just as fast. I saw some people coming in wanting to order a la carte, but the waitress said they weren't able to do that at the moment. I know this might be a rough transition to a new system so I hope people will give them a chance to figure it out. Overall, the food is still great and I'm happy I can try some of their sides I've been wanting to try, but now it comes with all the rolls that I can double and triple order! However, something has really changed in the last few months for the worst. The last two times we've ordered take out, there have been huge delays and quality issues. Last night was the final straw. Myself and several other patrons were waiting over an hour for our to go food. Apparently the owner has instructed the chefs to exclusively prioritize in person diners and ignore the tickets for to go food. We also all got texts saying our order was ready - when it hadn't even been made yet. We waited well over an hour after getting the "food is ready" text and arriving. Even after we asked multiple times about our order, the chefs just didn't make it. They were clearly focused on the in person diners only, per the owner's instructions. The poor wait staff were very kind and trying to help, but ultimately their hands were tied. I'm not sure if it is because of this new AYCE concept or if they have new management...but this problem needs to be addressed. Not to mention, the quality of the rolls has also seemingly gone down. I really want this place to remain our go-to sushi spot. I just don't know if it can be unless something changes.

I invited a couple friends and made them come right when they opened so we could properly attack this menu lol. There are different tiers, and we went with **Premium** because that's where you get the nigiri, carpaccio, sashimi and some of the higher-end items. Some premium items like bluefin toro, uni and sweet shrimp are limited to one per person, but there's still A LOT you can order. And we ordered a lot. We tried the tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore and octopus carpaccios. They were okay across the board. Nothing bad, but none of them really stood out either. The menu can be a little confusing. Some things are ordered through the QR code, miso soup you have to ask for separately, and there are a bunch of rules and different sections to figure out. I did appreciate that some rolls are available as four pieces instead of committing to eight. I'm not a huge roll person anyway, and the rolls were probably one of the weaker parts for me. My nostalgic order is always a Philly roll because I love cream cheese, and there was barely any cream cheese in it. They also use mustard-based sauces on several things, and as someone who HATES mustard... why are we doing this? Where I'd focus next time is the **nigiri and simpler items**. We tried a ton of those along with salmon belly, baked mussels, crispy tuna, udon, miso and more. The salmon belly was way fattier and larger than I expected -- more like an actual grilled belly portion than sushi -- so ordering three was definitely our mistake. We were cutting fat off trying to survive by the end lol. One thing I wish they did better was tell us what they were dropping off. We ordered so much that when plates started coming out, we couldn't always tell what was what. Service itself was attentive, but food came out at an interesting pace. We'd think we were almost done and then suddenly another wave would appear. Afterward I calculated what everything would've cost à la carte, and **we absolutely got our money's worth** with Premium. Would I come back? Probably. I'd order completely differently now that I understand the menu -- less experimenting with all the sauced items and rolls, and more stacking up the nigiri and things I actually liked. There's definitely value here; you just have to learn how to work the menu.

Despite the staff's claim that the restaurant was extremely busy, we observed that it was only approximately 50% full at 4:30 PM, and our order had been submitted at 4:10 PM. We were initially informed that we would need to wait 10 minutes by a female staff member, but upon calling again at 4:40 PM, we were told to wait an additional 10 minutes by that same female staff member, at this point the restaurant appeared to be at full capacity. I'm not sure if everyone was dining in or waiting for their to go order. The service we received was unsatisfactory, as my family was ignored and subjected to rude remarks under the breath of one of the female staff members, who said, "Take me outta here." This behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the level of service one would expect when paying for an expensive meal. I am not dining here for free... and the staff acts like they are paying out of their own pocket to buy me a meal. Furthermore, when my daughters went inside the restaurant a second time, they were informed of the extended wait time. The sushi we received was poorly assembled and had wasabi all over the rolls. My daughter doesn't like wasabi on her rolls and raku sushi has never done that before. Typically there's a barrier between the food and wasabi like a green leaf. This seemed to be an act of retaliation for our complaints. Additionally, I was hung up on the phone during a follow-up call by an employee named nick, which is highly unprofessional. Kevin was kind enough to take my message and give my request to upper management. This incident is not isolated, as I have experienced similar issues in the past, although they were not as severe when I was the one waiting alone. However, the treatment my family received was unacceptable, and I am left questioning why our presence was deemed a burden on wait staff during a period of supposed busyness. customers should receive respect NO MATTER HOW "BUSY" THE RESTAURANT IS. I hope people stop coming here until management recognizes an issue with their wait staff.
