A surprising find outside of the Richmond business/food district and in a strip mall in the middle of Richmond in the residential area. A tiny 3-4 table mom and pop restaurant. Service was quick and efficient. Food was fairly good. I'd compare it equal to any small restaurant in any local neighborhood. The nigiri and rolls were pretty good. My best commendation for it is that I'd definitely come back here again. Edit: I read some of the 1 star reviews and they mainly had to do with slow service or friendliness. We came on a weekend (either Sat or Sun) and it wasn't busy at all. There were no lines. We got a table right away but have to say the other tables were filled within 10 minutes or so. Far from the bustling Richmond downtown, a little sushi place hiding in a tiny strip mall located in an almost rural residential neighbourhood. However, the food definitely did not disappoint so it was worth the drive. And it was very affordable since they are situated so far from the city. There were no dine in options but the takeout service seemed very efficient. We ordered a aburi lovers set and some variety nigiri. The portions were very generous and affordable and fish was very fresh. I really enjoyed their saba and toro with the fattiness of the fish coming through very well. Hotate was plump and sweet. The tamago was a nice end to the meal with an almost cake like taste, very comforting. Only disappointment was the tako which was on the chewier side. I had this place on my list to try for over a year and I finally stopped by the neighborhood! At first glance the restaurant looks like a dive with the clutter and 3 dine in tables. But once you pass that and check out the the menu you'll know why you are here! They have a great selection for sushi and sashimi! We ordered the Chutoro Nigiri + BC Blazer Roll + Sebastian Oshizushi + Negitoro Cone + Chopped Scallop Nigiri. We were pleasantly surprised how good this place was! Very happy with each of the rolls and oish. The Chutoro was fresh but the cut could be slightly improved to truly enjoy this fine piece of fish. But for the price and quality it's a very decent! Starting off my reviews with one of my go-to sushi restaurants in Vancouver. This is a location that has been growing in popularity and one I first heard of because of my friends in Richmond. Although small, with only about 6-8 tables, it's mighty. [ My Order ] I don't think you can really go wrong with ordering any of the options on the menu. Some of my favourites are the uni, toro and chu-toro nigiri. They also have a nicely done salmon oshi-- although this is no Miku, it still satisfies my cravings. [ Vibes ] Again, it's a very small location so try to call-in to put your name in advance or, go before/after your lunch/dinner rush. [ Recommend ] Yes! Honestly, a no-brainer if you're ever in Richmond. It is a bit difficult to transit to, so I do recommend driving as they do have a decently sized parking lot available. It was definitely a hit, especially with the birthday girl! meticulously assembled and with great detail - not only did it look fantastic, it tasted better than it looked. All the elements were fresh and delicious - and it did not fall apart when cut. We also ordered their "wowk" party tray, and yes, it was also very well put together. Great find by my sister for her birthday! This small restaurant only has 4 booths and a small table so lots of people end up ordering out or coming early. We were able to make a reservation but I think they don't take reservations on most nights. We had the Aburi Lovers Set which came with 6 Aburi Wild Salmon Oshizushi's and 1 piece each of: Aburi Salmon Toro Nigiri, Aburi Hamachi Toro Nigiri, Aburi Spicy Hotate Ikura Nigiri, Aburi Saba Nigiri, Aburi Engawa Nigiri, Aburi Unagi Nigiri. Every piece was unique and full of flavour. The wild salmon Oshi was double tiered, and topped with a spicy jalapeno. The Salmon belly sashimi was so fresh and fatty. The saba nigiri was pretty solid but not as 'melt in your mouth' as the saba at Tentasu. Our favourite of the night went to the Engawa nigiri. Definitely a tiny little place with good prices and decent sushi in Richmond. I believe it is Chinese run but they have plenty of special rolls, bento boxes and nigiri that are all very well priced! My friend and I snagged the makeshift table (the only one with a reservation) and ordered a salmon/tuna sashimi, bc blazer roll, chopped scallop nigiri and chopped scallop roll. The sashimi was a little bit cold but slices were thick, well cut and fresh tasting. The BC blazer was a little bit heavy on the sauce and rice but the california base topped with seared salmon was a good combination and they did not skimp on the toppings either! The chopped scallop had quite a large piece of dense, flavourless rice as the base but they were able to top at least 7-9 scallop pieces in a mayo sauce on top for under two dollars! Overall, their rice could be flavoured a little bit better and its a bit thicker on the rolls than I like but the prices are really good and their menu has a huge variety. They are very very busy so its a bit slow but the service is nice and seemingly family run! read more

This tiny sushi joint serves super fresh fish at a fair price. It gets packed and does a ton of take out orders so definitely go super early or at odd hours (ie. in between lunch and dinner times). I've tried their nigiri and their specialty rolls and although specialty rolls were decent, I think their star items are definitely the nigiri, which showcase the freshness of the fish. Their chuu toro is so fatty and melt in your mouth I'm drooling just thinking about it! If only it wasn't so far away from me, I'd be there every week! Pro-tip from my friend: If you eat in and feel like your order isn't enough (because you always want more of that toro!) make sure you put in your add-ons as soon as you can because the chefs work solely based on bill order; they won't prioritize your additions just because you're eating in. The only thing I had to complained about are the albacore tuna toros weren't quite toro, first time this happened. Its dine in is a hit and miss so whatever, but definitely recommended this place for sushi take out. The rice is perfectly cooked and the seafood here is fresh. The Mermaid Oshizushi was my absolute favourite as IT WAS TOPPED WITH UNI ! The oshi had hamachi, hotate scallops, uni, and tobiko to make for a seafood lover's perfect bite. The Beluga Oshizushi was still delicious, as it had blue fin tuna, mango, and chopped scallop, but it didn't leave as big of an impression on me, as the Mermaid had. If you just want to stick to regular nigiri and maki sushi, their assorted sushi nigiri was delicious as well. I highly recommend their IKA nigiri! I love squid anything squid . [Items Tried] Aburi Lovers Set (5/5) - $28 Taste: They do aburi really well here and this set is pretty encompassing as a trial platter - they serve this with salmon oshi aburi and assorted aburi nigiri. The fish is seared to perfection and all the fish is flavourful with the right amount of dressing and sauces. Portion Size: Good for two people to share. Engawa (4/5) - $2.25 Taste: Seared engawa is one of my favourites - flounder fringe is a fattier part of the fish that is rich in that fishy flavour. Uni (4/5) - $3.25 Taste: A good portion of uni on this one - not the freshest I've had but for $3.25, a reasonable price point nevertheless. Bluefin Chu-toro (5/5) - $4.95 Taste: One of the best tasting fishes they serve here, I love bluefin tuna and the fatty texture of the tuna just melts right off the tip of your tongue! Lots of good stuff have been said about this shop especially the aburi. I tried some normal stuff just to test out - california roll, some nigiri and a salmon/tuna don. The California roll is a little bigger than other stores, but the nigiri is thin. The don is very deflated - it fit only half the bowl... very disappointing. The biggest let down is that they do not season their rice. And I agree with others that the fish is very fresh but it did not save the tasteless rice. I usually eat sushi without soy sauce as the rseasoned rice itself is flavorful but I had to use quite a bit here. If you are an avid soy sauce user or someone who doesn't like the vinegar/salt/sugar taste in sushi rice then maybe this is the place for you. Very cozy restaurant in a small plaza. I really liked the cherry blossom decor that was surrounding the seating area. It was pretty and romantic. I only ordered the salmon oishi as I didn't have much of an appetite. Their menu consists of a variety of sashimi that can't be found in most sushi places. Sushi Lovers is a very small Chinese-run Japanese restaurant, serving average quality sushi for very cheap prices. I've lived in Richmond for years, and I've always been curious about Sushi Lovers since I've driven past it on the way to and from work more times than I can count. Finally, today I decided to go and check it out while catching up with an old friend and fellow sushi-lover. Unfortunately, I don't have very many good things to say about my experience. I mean, it was okay, but it wasn't great. Let me explain. Sushi Lovers seats about 10 people, booth-style, at maximum capacity. It is decorated with fake cherry blossom trees and there were also a few cute paintings of nigiri sushi with smiley faces on the walls, like on their restaurant logo banner, which added to the uniqueness of the restaurant. In terms of overall presentation and ambiance, it felt very kid-friendly and family friendly, which is what I think they were going for, and felt more or less welcoming. The servers were decently friendly and did a fair job in serving my table during my visit. The tea, unfortunately, was never hot for the duration of my visit. In terms of pricing, Sushi Lovers is probably the most inexpensive sushi restaurant I have ever been to. Big kid's meals for ~$8.00, decently sized bento boxes for ~$10.00, nigiri sushi pieces starting with tuna and salmon at $1.25/piece. If you're really strapped for cash and you want sushi, Sushi Lovers has you covered. Where Sushi Lovers kinda kicks the bucket for me is in the taste and quality of its sushi ingredients. I mean, yeah, it's not fair for me to rate Sushi Lovers against other higher-end restaurants in Richmond, but at the same time if something doesn't objectively taste good then I feel obliged to tell my honest feelings about it. I ordered several pieces of nigiri sushi, including tuna, salmon, ikura, uni, tamago, unagi, and inari. I also had one order of their salmon oshizushi and two tuna rolls. My total bill came out to about $40.00 after tips. Overall, all of the sushi I had at Sushi Lovers was just, at most, okay. The most disappointing part of my meal was easily the piece of ikura nigiri sushi that I had, for $2.25/piece. It was way too salty and had too much of that fishy taste. The ikura also didn't "pop" very well in my mouth as they do when you bite into a quality piece of ikura nigiri sushi. The uni was decent, but of course the price was too good to be true so I didn't expect much to begin with. The tamago was sub-average in terms of flavour. The tuna and salmon I had throughout my meal didn't feel like it was frozen at all so props to the staff for preparing the fish nicely. The unagi was barely warm when it was served to me and did not come with any sauce on top. One of the better parts of my dinner was the salmon oshizushi, which came in six pieces for about ~$13.00. The pieces were torched nicely, the sauce was creamy, but a little too salty for some reason at the front-end of each bite, and the slice of jalapeno pepper on top of each gave quite a nice kick. Portion sizes for everything I ordered were decent - not too small and not overly large like Samurai Sushi or Banzai Sushi. Anyway, I probably will not return to Sushi Lovers. I felt that I could have spent $40.00 at many other places and would have had a much more satisfying dining experience at which to quell my sushi cravings. Maybe my expectations were too high? I was really looking forward to trying Sushi Lovers having seen pictures of the food on various social media platforms and it being so heavily recommended by quite a few food instagrammers. The food is good, but necessarily worth it as you risk dealing with awful hospitality. While we were seated very promptly, the wait times for the food was completely unacceptable. We waited 45 minutes for our first dish to come out - it was sashimi- and probably about another 20 minutes or so between each dish afterwards. The restaurant's 7 tables were full and it looked like they were fulfilling a lot of togo orders that night too. There was only one person working the kitchen, so I am not surprised the service was this slow. However, a proper explanation from the wait staff regarding the slow service would have been nice, if not a fair warning before we were seated. The two servers were well aware that diners were getting impatient, yet chose to avoid communicating with diners throughout the night. This only made the situation worse in my option. There was no acknowledgment at all that people had been waiting a long time for their food. The food itself was not bad. The sashimi was good - fresh and decent portions. The presentations of all the nigiri and rolls were very nice, as they should given how long we waited. They did aburi oshi sushi (flame seared and pressed sushi) quite well too. However, so do a lot of other establishments in the Metro Vancouver area. You can't expect diners to return, no matter how good the food is, if you don't have the kitchen team to fulfill prders in a timely manner. Lastly, if a restaurant is going to have an open kitchen, I would suggest it limit its use of the microwave. Everyone could see and hear the chef constantly using the microwave in Sushi Lover. It is not very apetitizing to know that a restaurant is using a microwave to prepare the food. I was never quite sure what was being microwaved, but definitely not to comforting to know that an establishment that services Japanese cuisine, which emphasized freshness, relies on a microwave. read more

They were $24 per dozen.These plump little oysters are topped with some yellow tobiko, maki, and green onions served with a side of ponzu sauce. They were fresh and had a nice firm texture. While it's not considered "traditional" Japanese (I have many Japanese friends as well as sushi snobs), the sushi is super fresh and the dishes I've tried were all excellent. Even the most picky sushi eaters will enjoy it here. The quality to value ratio is one of the best in Richmond and even Vancouver. The poke bowls are a definite must try as they are fresh, vibrant and tasty (yes I know, not Japanese). Compared to the other poke specialty places around, Sushi Lovers is top of the list. The beef udon noodle soup was flavourful and well seasoned. The noodles had a great consistency and the broth was delicious. This place is now one of our top go to spots in Richmond when a sushi craving hits. Try it but don't tell too many people. This is a true hidden gem and my favorite sushi restaurant in the area! I feel torn writing this review as it is a tiny restaurant and it has already become very popular, resulting in long waits for a table. Is there any way to keep this gem a secret?? It is apparent that thought has been put into both the decoration and design of the menus. They are family friendly, with children's meals served in plates shaped like cars or planes (I wonder if I can put in a special request to get my meal served on one of those!). The sushi here is always fresh and served with care. On this particular visit I ordered an Alaska roll with engawa nigiri, chopped scallop nigiri and aji nigiri. Everything was as delicious as I remembered and the servers always polite and smiling. My friend particularly liked the chopped scallop nigiri, describing the scallops as looking like "fluffy white marshmallows". I have yet to find another Japanese restaurant that has more generous portions of scallop (or as sweet and fresh). Warning: this restaurant is amazing and their prices are also super reasonable. So be prepared to wait for a table and be patient after you've ordered. Otherwise, order take out! read more

This little sushi place is a real gem and great addition to Richmond . And in that corner or Railway and Blundell there really isn't much around that area in terms of eats . The fish was and the sushi terrific for a very good prices Do note there are only a few tables so one needs to be patient if they plan to eat in and this is definitely not the place to bring a big group. They took some great attention to detail to their dishware . The kids car or plane tray combo is a terrific deal at $7.95 & $9.95 . It comes with toy and ice cream too . A new Gem in richmond. I found my new regular dining diner!! Saw many 5 star reviews and saw 1 star review. Decided to try it out. I m a bit detailed so please read on for my review. There are only 4 tables, family owned business. The restaurants was busy with the guest at the table and many take out orders. We waited for 15 mins, and the guest were very kind to ask for the bill after dinner seeing people waiting. The environment is very welcoming with cute sushi on the walls. When we sat down, we were given tea right away. The Tea wasn't too hot, for it is a hot summer day now. Just the right temperature to heat up the mouth and get ready for dinner. The nigiri sushi price on the menu is great. Haven't seen $1.5 piece in ages. I wondered how good were the sushi? To my surprise, the sushi was great. (See pictures that I post.) We ordered a lot of food and only worked out to be $20 per person. You can spend that at an all you can eat but the quality was way better then expected. It was very busy so if you asked me, service is good enough to give 5 star since only one server. I had doubts with this place when I saw a 1 star and the rest 5 stars. (Probably friends helping out) but hey, I don't think it deserved the 1 star rating because it was busy. I owned a dessert house in Vancouver and understand long working hours by myself serving guest and may have missed orders from time to time but the food is super duper awesome. Anyways, the salmon sashimi was very fresh, the magic roll was very refreshing for summer, miso soup didn't taste like regular ones u get from Richmond sushi type. Every roll, nigiri sushi pieces were big enough and just right. With the sushi rice have just the right rice vinegar amount. Brings out the correct sweetness without any sour taste like samurai or banzai sushi. I can tell the shop is using very nice quality Japanese vinegar like kiyo and hapa. The rice was sticky enough to taste the rice texture piece by piece. Something that you need to determine from good sushi chef cooking the sushi rice. The plates are used mostly black slate, making it taking pictures of sushi much more contrast. Pictures are better than words, so please check out my photos. The choice of soya sauce was not too sweet nor too salty. Just good enough to bring the flavor of the fresh raw fish. The Uni, ikura and topiko was awesome and fresh. There was even a sushi with all three combined!!! The Udon we had, the soup base was very tasty and flavorful. We were very full when we finished. I would of given it a 3 to 4 star because of the seating but felt it deserved a 5 star due to food quality and didn't think the 1 star rating was justifiednwih just ordering one simple roll and waiting for that long for the meal and the table. Everyonr can tell this restaurant put a lot of time and effort into the food quality, the renovations and choice of plates serving with the sushi so people can let the camera eats first. It may not be a grand grand sushi shop, but hey look at the awesome price and outstanding food quality!! Many places in Japan that have good food are small, hidden and line up. I can tell, I will come back again and again for their nigiri! I urge everyone to try and if you feel my review is good enough to get you coming. Give some likes and out your honest review. Really small restaurant with only 5 or 6 tables. After ordering, we waited for almost 40 minutes before our food came to the table. It seems like they were prioritizing on all the take out orders before the in restaurant orders. We were so hungry and slightly annoyed for waiting so long that when our food finally arrived, we were not that excited to eat anymore. While we were waiting, I overheard another customer had ordered take out and she had been waiting for 45+ minutes already and it still wasn't ready so she requested for a refund. But nobody in the restaurant knew how to refund, they had to call the owner for assistance. They really need to work on improving their time management and prioritizing. 2nd time to go here. first time the chirashi deluxe was fresher and prettier and they had fresh lemon though the rice lacked flavor and softness. the 2nd time ,the rice flavor improved a bit but rice still not so soft. had to request for flowers and gold for the chirashi , the young server was nice enough to add it for a nicer shot. they ran out of fresh lemon. the sexbomb not bad just really small oysters, the otoro so so too. the foie gras aburi was so yummy! the rest of the aburi lacked flavor and it was quite bland. place a bit cramp and small. service ok too. read more

I had become an avid fan but...last week their website was down (It still is as of this review). I knew something was up. So I made my usual order. I went to pick it up and found their prices went up 20%!!!! That's too much!!! The tuna salmon combo was $9.95 is now $11.95. The Wild Salmon Nigiri was $1.85 is now $2.65. Their portions were also smaller. They were small to begin with as I had to order extra Nigiri on top of the combo. Sad read more
