So it's been almost 10 years since I lived in this neighbourhood so it was a pleasant surprise to find this hidden gem so close to the new crib. It's a very small venue so if you're claustrophobic I recommend take out all day long once the coronavirus sanctions are lifted. My new go-to sushi place in Richmond! Their sashimi is so fresh and delicious. Specialty rolls are exactly as described, so if you like the ingredients, you will love the roll! And finally, foie gras nigiri! So delicious! I order at least two, every time I go. The chicken teriyaki is a favourite of my sons, and I love it because it's not fried. Ordered beef udon, chirashi don, salmon aburi, some individual nigiri. Soup in the udon was good, but the beef slices were quite fatty. Fish quality was alright but the sushi rice was tasteless.The salmon aburi was similarly underwhelming, lacked any sort of sauce or flavoring. We had to ask the kitchen whether they actually put mayo on it, and they said they did - we found a very minute amount, just under the jalapeno slice??). We had to ask them to strike the aburi off the bill as it was entirely unpalatable. There were only four tables all with booth seating, which did not seem to be the best use of space. As we waited 40 inexplicable minutes for the aburi order we calculated that they could have fit 25% more people if they had used normal movable tables and removed the waiting area by the door since there were benches outside anyway. For the very small number of seats they have, I'm entirely confused as to why the kitchen was exceedingly slow. The only saving grace was that the server was accommodating and rather apologetic (rightly so) but I'm not sure how much longer they could last at this location if things don't improve. We left feeling unsatisfied. We were even with a guest from out of town and I was quite embarrassed about the experience that I insisted we at least got some pizza so she wouldn't be hungry. read more

The poke bowls had large chunks of sashimi, avocado, and mango along with other fixings to make the bowls delicious! Need to go back to try some of the special rolls! I'm really torn on writing a review for this place - not because the food wasn't good or that the service was bad. I'm torn on writing a review for this place because it was really good and while I want to share that with others, I also don't want others flocking to this tiny restaurant which could result long waits, overworked staff and disgruntled customers and above all, it would mean that it would be harder for me to get a table. The restaurant only has 5 tables and when I went there was one lady taking the orders and two guys working behind the counter to prepare the food. Despite the limited number of staff, the food came out relatively quickly. I was impressed by their generous portions and their freshness and by their extremely reasonable prices. My one complaint would be their salmon oshi. I've had salmon oshi at a lot of places and theirs doesn't quite compare. I found that their cuts of salmon were too thick - it was even thicker that the salmon on top of my salmon nigri; and it was lacking the melt in your factor that I've experienced at Miku and Minami. I did find that if you separated the layers of their salmon oshi, eating the bottom with soy and wasabi and then eating the top portion on its own, the flavor profile was much better. read more

Yelp recommend this as hot and new and I was in the area so who says no to sushi? We were looking for a snack so we just ordered a couple the roll combos to go. This included a California roll, dynamite roll, and a half order of salmon and tuna roll. I mentioned we were looking for a snack, and we were rolling over after. The portions are bigger than average and there's a generous amount of filling and pretty tasty. The one thing they do differently here is the dynamite roll - we were expecting the fried prawn tempura inside but their prawns are not deep fried. Great little spot to grab a quick bite. I placed an order the day before for 3:45pm pick up and confirmed the pick up time 3 times during the call. The order was not ready until 4:15pm, 30 minutes after our original pickup time, even though there wasn't a line up or was the store busy at the time. We suspect that they forgot our order completely and only started making it once we arrived. Many people that came after us actually got their orders before we did. This place is amazing. I have tried it over 5 times and it's always been perfect. The ingredients are fresh, seasonal, local, and yummy. They sometimes have special pieces. I've also tried more expensive places such as Tetsu, Minami, Kinyo, etc. this is definitely on the better side of quality and the cheapest of all. Tiny little sushi joint run by a Chinese family. Good priced and decent sushi. My friends and I had the dragon roll, assorted sashimi, BC seared roll, the wild salmon ozhisushi, and engawa nigiri. Everything was very tasty. My favourite roll was definitely the bc seared. Not the best in quality but not terrible either. Honestly this place has gone down the drain. Used to be my go to spot, as the sushi was fresh and it was prepared pretty quickly! However I think this place took a hit due to the hype. They just couldn't meet the demand, in my opinion. They went from having 3-6 ppl in the restaurant to being packed all the time with numerous people waiting outside for their take out orders. If you don't order the expensive stuff, then you end up getting really low quality sushi, and you end up waiting at least 1-1.5 hrs, that is if they don't call you 30min later to tell you your orders cancelled, or that they ran out of rice! I would recommend not risking ordering from this place, there's a 50/50 chance it'll turn out good depending on how busy they are and how much quality/fresh fish they have left. The red roll does not taste like anything anymore, the mango Cali roll had tasteless pieces of mango, and the smoked salmon tasted like it was straight out of a can from superstore. Decided to check this place out as it was on the way to my friend's house, we waited for 20 minutes for someone to come over and take our order. Halfway through taking our order she ran off to answer the phone and we had to wait again. Sushi took over half an hour and when it arrived we were told that someone had reserved our table and that we needed to leave within 15 minutes. The sushi was about average, better than bulk places like samurai sushi but about the same as gami sushi and takeya. If you want to try their sushi here it's better to just order takeout rather than waiting almost an hour in their store. read more

Would give negative stars if I could. -nice waiters -pretty decorations -aesthetically pleasing -ordered udon and the noodles were undercooked but the meat was way over cooked. Soup base was salty as hell and literally nothing in the bowl but meat, soup and noodles. No choy, no chives, no sesame, nothing. Four pieces of meat were burned black. -ordered three different sushi plates and all of them were bland flavourless fish. The first plate was missing fish from picture on the menu, and when we asked the waiter she asked: "oh, did you want it to look like the menu??" YES BECAUSE THATS WHAT I ORDERED?? Raw shrimp was dry and sticky, salmon tasted like water, tuna tasted off and scallop and razor clam were fishy tasting and was basically just ocean gum -second plate was also flavourless and the rolls were 75% rice; the usual rice and seaweed on the outside, but on the inside of the roll, there was little filling and eVEN MORE RICE ON THE INSIDE. -third plate wasn't as flavourless as the others but I did not appreciate the flavour. It was watered down and sour, not the way fish is supposed to taste. I have zero clue as to why this place has such good reviews. -overall, no. Because I was a little on the hungry side I ordered some tempura. The sushi was nice and tightly wrapped, came in a timely manner and with good service.
