We visited Sushi Maki and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. My rice was served, but my husband's lunch arrived about 30 minutes later, which meant I had already finished eating by the time his food came. The delay wasn't communicated to us, and no one apologized for the wait until we brought it up ourselves. When we finally raised the issue, the staff prepared his meal immediately, which made us wonder if the order had simply been forgotten or possibly prepared for someone else by mistake. The lack of acknowledgment or basic apology for the delay was the most frustrating part of the experience. The food itself was average, but the service really overshadowed everything else. The food was good but the service was poor. I sat down and there are 2 servers and it took 10 minutes before they even brought me a menu. They walked by over and over again without even looking over and acknowledging I was there. We ordered miso soup, edamame, chicken gyoza, crab Rangoon, Cali Ocho roll, spicy tuna roll, University roll, tempura ice cream, Thai donuts, and fried Oreos. For the most part, everything was good, but my favorites would have to be the crab Rangoon, Cali Ocho roll, and Thai donuts. I wouldn't order the tempura ice cream again, as it had too much batter for my taste. I've also had better fried Oreos at other locations. The service was great. We ordered the Cali Ocho Roll, the California Roll, University Roll, and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Then we moved on to the Aloha Soy Poke Bowl which was absolutely amazing paired with a side of Eel Sauce. Due to the COVID there is outdoor sitting available and fans located right next to every table. Staff is taking extra precautions wearing gloves, masks, face shields, paper disposable menus and contactless payments online when dinning outside. I give this sushi Maki a 5 out of 5 never seems to disappoint. The food was very good and too good I forgot to take pictures haha. My boyfriend and I we order edamame appetizer, 2 JB Tempura rolls, and 2 Cali Ocho Rolls with some diet cokes on the side. The total came out to $50 which truly isn't bad for all the food we got. This is such an underrated gem in Kendall. Stopped in the other day for so sushi and I was presently surprised! In terms of decor it looks like most other sushi maki's, but it was clean and good size so you don't feel crammed when eating. In terms of service, we ordered take out so I can't say much, but the staff member who took my order over the phone was very friendly and my order was 100% correct! Not the food: 1. My dragon roll was PERFECT. I know that's a basic roll, but it was perfect and tasted so fresh, I was so happy! 2. The friend rice was the weakest part of the meal in my opinion, it was good but a bit on the dry side. Could have used more sauce or less cook time? 3.The veggie spring roll was so good! Absolute garbage customer service for trash sushi. They are worthless they will only mess up your order blame you and inconvenience you. They gave us the wrong order. We had to bring back the wrong order and then we watched them rebag it and then give it to the right customer. Absolutely disgusting. Mind you we touched it thinking it was ours until we tasted it and then realized those idiots gave the wrong order and still refused to acknowledge my wife. Also they're racist. They only referred to my wife by skin color instead of acknowledging her name (which is on the order). Do not waste your time with this place. I want to like everything about Sushi Maki: sushi, close to where I live, and ability to sign up for rewards. I keep giving them a chance, but nothing ever goes right. Every time I go, they make the order wrong: leave out ingredients, make it according to an old recipe that is no longer on the menu, make it according to a new recipe that is not listed online when you order, run low on an ingredient and try to slyly make it with half the normal and half a substitute without telling me. That's right; they knowingly subbed a very different ingredient and did not tell me because, "they were running low." One time they made my meal without several ingredients and after sending back already for making wrong, I was starving and didn't notice the missing ingredients until late in the meal. When I asked the waiter about it he kind of blamed me for not noticing sooner because "now there is nothing [he] can do about it." They also tend to wrap things up and staple the bag shut on to go items, making it even harder to check the order to see which thing they inevitably left out or subbed. Oh, and that rewards program? We tried to sign up one time and the waiter took our information amd then never signed us up. Each time I think maybe the issue is a fluke or because someone was new, but there are only so many times I can assume that. I think I've given sushi maki enough chances and won't be returning. read more
