I was surprised by the quality of the sushi and fish to rice ratio at Sushi Martini! I didn't expect to do AYCE but went for it anyways since I was in the area with my friend group. The space doesn't remind me of a sushi restaurant and more of a sports bar, but the space was playing the World Cup and was fit for the occasion. Their AYCE is a great price ($39.99), excluding their premium sushi rolls. Since I refrain from ordering rolls at an AYCE, this part didn't bother me much. We maxed out all the limited items, which was very generous, however, I wasn't sure of how many rounds were available, or how many pieces total were going to be included in the limited items, so we ended up with a LOT of nigiri. Our service was great, but spotty at several times. I loved all the nigiri items, especially the peppered salmon, ikura, and halibut. I'd pass on the red clam nigiri, and the fried appetizers as they were big portions but very filling! Delicious melt in your mouth pieces of yellowtail and salmon were the highlights for me. The teenager was craving sushi so we came to one of the best AYCE sushi bars in Rancho Cucamonga. AYCE is $39.99 - not bad at all. Sushi Martini is quite large and has ample seating. They have a full bar area and two sushi bar areas in the restaurant. They can definitely accommodate a large crowd. They have tvs that highlight games and play music which adds a nice touch to the ambiance. Their bench seating in the front dining definitely needs redone. The vinyl like material is cracking and uncomfortable to sit on. Our waiter was great. He was very tentative and kept asking if we were ready, had questions, or needed anything. The sushi even came out pretty quickly. I ordered the double jeopardy hand roll and absolutely loved it. That peppered salmon and albacore is a game changer from the regular fish. It gives it an extra punch of flavor. The vegetable roll was refreshing and light. A nice bright option from the fish. The nigiri eel, peppered salmon, pepper albacore, and salmon were fresh and I appreciate it being nice size slices of fish to rice ratio. I love that all the rolls come as a hand roll option because it's a little smaller portion. I also tried the Halibut but no my favorite. For a premium fish it tasted slimy and had no flavor. The shrimp boats were not good. They were heavily bartered and fried. It was like biting into grease. I also didn't get shrimp from it, more imitation crab than anything. This has been my favorite sushi of years. However the sushi is rolls have more and more rice. Now you have to pay $1.25 per each roll if you do not eat the rice. It feels like a punishment to eat something you do not want to. I have always ordered the all you can eat. This feels as though you get more food but theres these rules to eat so much rice. Considering how busy it was I think the service was doing a pretty good job at coming out with the food/waters promptly. It's a pretty big interior there's lots of tables. In terms of the food, for ayce it was $40 pp before tax. I think the fish to rice ratio was great for the nigiri pieces. Depending on what you get, you can get full pretty quickly especially with those more premium rolls. I will say it's okay decent quality cuts for ayce, nothing too crazy. We frequented this place a few years ago and stopped going because the quality had really started to tank we just didn't enjoy any aspect of our experience. We were in the area and gave it a try again... I remember why we stopped coming. The staff was nice enough, nothing stand out. The peppered salmon was like play doh and the ratio of filling to rice in the rolls just made the texture kind of gross since they were overfilled. We only ate one round and then left because we just didn't enjoy our food that much. It instantly made us a little worse for wear. Unfortunately the hot entrees came significantly later compared to the sushi. Which I can understand since it's coming from a different kitchen, but I really felt they came late. Lunch spot I dropped into during extended jury duty break since it's right across the courthouse. Sushi roll lunch special was decent. 3 half rolls with soup and salad for $27. Nothing special. And the salad had some soggy bits in it so I stopped after a few bites. Other than that, the place looked nice and clean. (Bathrooms too.) The citrus was my favorite which does have a slight kick to it, I took off the jalapeño but was still something I enjoyed considering I don't do spicy. Followed by the baked one called home run and then the cream cheese one, Vegas. It's a bit on the darker side regarding lighting making it appear a bit on the old and dreary side, but appeared clean. The waiter checked up on us even though he was very busy. The prices are fair and they don't charge for the extra small things such as lemons or jalapeño slices like other sushi places might do. The baked mussels had a nice char but not enough sauce it was extremely dry which makes the mussel taste rubbery especially with seafood when it is overcooked , next roll that was an epic fail was the salmon skin roll typically it's super crunchy but this time between the 3 sushi chefs someone definitely missed the ASSIGNMENT completely it was mushy and overly saturated with sauce and just gross ... the bam bam & citrus roll was delicious and perfect amount of flavor and sauce & rice ratio and the shrimp boat was really good. Some of the other items we ordered was decent the other rolls that must of been made by the same sushi chef were all mushy and breaking apart & way too much sauce . Besides that , It's decent for local restaurant I did inform our server and she apologized and that was it & there was no solution if we wanted to place a new order for the same roll . My boyfriend and I came here for a double date with some friends recently to try the AYCE sushi (he and I are sushi fiends) Our friends are sushi Martini regulars and we were curious to see why. I had been to sushi martini once about 5 years ago and found it decent (long wait times, long times between rounds, poor service) and was excited to give it another try. We made a reservation for around 6:30 and were quickly seated on entry. The restaurant was very busy for a Saturday night so I definitely recommend making a reservation if you come on Friday or Saturday to make sure you get a seat. The restaurant was very loud and I didn't like that fact that their drink happy hour started at 9 (very late) but our waitress was good and quickly took our first round orders and kept our waters filled. The first round came out in a reasonable about of time and we were very happy with it! The rice to fish ratios on the nigiri were excellent, lots of fish and not too much rice. I also thought the sushi rice was very well seasoned and the quality of the fish was very good too. The baked rolls we very tasty and I liked the fact that they came with less pieces than the regular rolls- so we could try more. The baked scallop and the baked salmon were particularly good. The regular rolls and the fried rolls were also good. I'm not a big fan of rolls at AYCE since they fill you up fast, but if that's your thing I'm sure these won't disappoint. It did take a long time for our second order to come out. Maybe this is because our second order was big, maybe it's because the restaurant was very busy. We finished our first round and we're still very hungry and then had to wait what felt like about 20 minutes for the second. With nothing to do but sip our drinks in the mean time, we weren't as hungry when the food came. Overall it was still pretty good but I would recommend ordering more on ur first round or putting in your second order earlier. The AYCE was around 40$. For two people expect to pay around 100$. I'm a pretty understanding person knowing the spot might be busy, but to get your first order 20 minutes after ordering starts the meal off rough. The rolls were okay (ordered the bomb.com and crazy), but they were covered with sauce to make them better. The main reason for low stars is that the nigiri/ sushi quality was pretty low. The tuna and salmon didn't taste like tuna and salmon at all (thankfully not fishy), and was a let down. The yellowtail was the only one that tasted decent.
