OK food. We were surprised by the NYC prices for this establishment. I thought that by ordering the Seared Tuna with Mango Salsa as an entree, we would have a nice meal, but it was about 5 to 6 pieces of tuna with little bits of onion and mango, for $20. And $30 for Yakisoba Pan Noodles with Tuna. It was okay, but not worth $30! Overall, with three soft drinks and 5-pc assorted dumplings, it was about $90 (including tip). Also ambiance was bright bright lights, expensive food, and just not worth it. I read the other reviews, and I really do hope the owner does not steal the CC tips from the servers. The worse sushi I have ever had. 3 different rolls with imitation crab meat. The miso soup was beyond salty. The only saving grace was the "ceviche" and salad, but for the prices of the sushi rolls (which were BEYOND overpriced) why charge 11+ for imitation is beyond me. The sushi was BLAND. I'm not sure why such negative reviews, we had a phenomenal experience there. We ate inside the restaurant (which was such a pleasure actually). We were 3 people for lunch, no one in the restaurant although eventually 2 customers did come in towards the end of our visit. The sushi and hot food came out quickly, was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The service was great. We haven't gone to Sushi Metsuyan in a long time and we were so happy we did. I like sushi. I live sushi. This was the absolute worst sushi I have ever had. Disgusting. Great excellent service horrible over priced food. For example -vegetable dumplings. Haha potatoe knish filled dumpling. Another -dragon roll hahaha they take one KanI roll ,wrap it in about 1/2 inch rice ,Soup De Jourwrap that in seaweed and deep fry. Some terrible garbage. I have no idea what is in the crab cake. I was afraid to feed it to my dog. We ordered over $100 worth of sushi , regretfully none of it was good. I'm a huge sushi fan, as well as a sushi snob, and I don't eat kosher unless the company I'm with dictates it. I had a business lunch here a few weeks ago. Service was good and mostly attentive, and the construction of the rolls was good. I ordered 2 rolls, and the fish itself was fresh enough and I enjoyed it, but it was just kind of ''meh.'' It's not a bad place by any means, and definitely a step above some other neighborhood places, but it's nothing to rave about. I wouldn't necessarily return unless I had to eat kosher. read more

This is the worst sushi i have ever had. I had the worst food poisoning the second I got home. The staff was rude and loud while we were looking at the menus. They didn't supply any plates, forks, or napkins when the food came. We had to ask them for everything even our drinks 2x. The dumplings had a dark purple filling and looked expired. The sushi was definitely not fresh. And when I politely asked them to change my order I heard the waitress manager and chef complaining about me loudly.The chef did not want to comply to my request which was to chop the yellowtail. I had been to Sushi Metsuyan before so I decided to take a friend who lives in Teaneck but who had never been there for lunch. Definitely NOT disappointed! The sushi was fresh and tasty and the portion generous. As part of the special, either miso or the soup de jour was offered. I opted for the spinach mushroom soup, described by one word: outstanding! I was at Filler Up and walked by here and saw friends sitting down. They beckoned me to come and join them and I did. Not being there to order, I sat and talked until they both convinced me to finish their large servings. They both had big sashimi dishes, and ate only have to 3/4 of the plate. Worst management ever. Lousy service in Teaneck AND Monsey. Ruined my son's Bar Mitzvah dinner: we pre-ordered 35 meals and STILL waited 2 hours for our food. The guests had to leave before dinner was even served! Disgraceful treatment of customers. Dishonorable owner; lies to his clientele. When my son's father complained about our disgraceful treatment at the Bar Mitzvah dinner, the owner didn't even apologize! He gave some BS excuse about the number of choices we offered our guests. How is that any different than if we'd just ordered right off the menu?! There was NO reason for how we were treated. It was unprofessional and embarrassing. To "make it up to us," the owner promised my 2 children and me a complimentary meal. That was tonight. After we ordered, he told his staff to offer us a credit of $100. I've already paid this guy $1800 cash! I've got his offer of a complimentary meal in writing. If you know what's good for you, avoid Sushi Metsuyan at all costs. Go find a GOOD restaurant where they appreciate their customers. The Torah says to treat people how you want to be treated. (This review is for Salsa Metsuyan, which is next door to Sushi Metsuyan.) One of the few great informal kosher restaurants in Teaneck. Mexican-Asian fusion. They care about their ingredients. Nothing fake. Nothing canned, processed. It all looks and tastes like it was made from scratch. My wife says it's like eating at her cousins' house in Jalapa Mexico (without the Asian fusion). Really interesting handmade pickles, peppers & kimchi. Wide variety of tastes and textures to satisfy all palates, even my picky vegan-eating wife. Fun seating. Good traffic flow - seating area is undisturbed by take-out. Great photo wall. Great flamenco music. Artful and happy chalkboard. The food is delicious. Daniel and his team make you feel welcome. There's one thing to keep in mind here -- Don't come for the ambiance. It is small, and the tables are close together. The sushi is expensive, and sometimes the service is, well, Israeli... (You know what I mean by this) However, the sushi is good, and this restaurant does grace us with good kosher sushi in Teaneck! Any other restaurant providing kosher sushi merely has sushi as part of the greater whole. Sushi doesn't really belong in pizza places, but this is a rant for another review! They offer lunch specials, which are actually pretty good deals. They also do take out, and are relatively prompt. Despite the few complaints above, somehow we keep coming back again and again! The best kosher sushi - hands down. Feet down, even. Peanut crunch roll is really creative and the mainstays are all executed flawlessly. The specials are real nice, too. For a while you really had to check your take-out orders because they'd consistently screw it up - but that doesn't happen anymore. This is my favorite local lunch spot for three reasons. 1) It's got generous and inexpensive lunch specials, 2) It's small but cozy- you can have a business lunch and not be surrounded by screaming kids, and 3) The food is consistently good and always tastes the way it's supposed to. The worst aspect here is the service; there have been some truly awful waiters in the past, however recently they've improved. Came here on A Sunday for my husband's birthday. We sat for 2 hours and didn't receive our full order. We were not given our cups for soy sauce nor refills on drinks. I have been here in the past and I am extremely disappointed in the service. The food that we got was "okay" but I am disappointed that we never received our full order. I have never in my life experienced such rude treatment in a restaurant, or any other service based business for that matter. We ordered our food at about 1:30 pm, a tilapia wrap, and an order of sushi. By about 2:10 our food had still not come out. I saw what looked like either the manager, or the owner, clearing tables in the now nearly empty restaurant. I asked him, " Could I please have my side salad I ordered until my entree is ready. I'm very hungry." He replied, "Ma'am, you'll get your food when it's ready. We're not trying to keep anything from you. What did you order anyway?" "Your response is unbelievable," I told him. "You should be apologizing to me for your horrible service, and instead you have insulted me." "I'm sorry you feel that way," he said. I never take time to write reviews but I felt I needed to because I was so offended by the service I received, or should I say, did not receive. I went to this place with my husband who loves sushi, excited about the selection of vegan food on the menu. I was not seated for ten minutes, despite the fact that it was not that busy. After being seated, me and my husband were not given menus, water or even spoke to for 25 minutes. The servers were not incredibly busy, and even had time to stand and talk to other customers not being served or helped. They had menus in their hands as they walked around but completely ignored me and my husband. After 25 minutes of being ignored for absolutely no reason, my husband and I got up and left. I had to stop my husband from saying something because I felt it was better to just leave than to make a scene. I have never in my entire life been treated so terribly at a restaurant. The Grilled asparagus sushi was the best asparagus sushi I've had...ever. Grilled? Who would of thunk? We also ordered the bagel sushi with tofu cream cheese (cool for the lactose intolerant) I normally order a Philadelphia roll.(yum) So it was a nice change. The lady next to us had ordered the fish on top of noodles- Looked good I think it was a lunch thing, we came back for dinner and order what I thought was it..It ended up being Salmon with noodles and vegis it was ok..(something I may be able to make) The sushi we had at lunch was really good and I am comparing it to non-kosher sushi/Japanese places. read more

This place has recently come under new management and I can't wait to get there. I ate sushi at a place this guy ran during my last visit to New York and it was by far the most delectable experience I have ever had eating sushi. Delicate but rich flavor, melt in your mouth texture, exquisite freshness.
