It's a one man shop, they've had staff come and go to man their register but they don't stay long. I recommend calling ahead to place your order or you will be stick waiting for a long while. What a quaint place! It's a one-man operated sushi hole-in-the-wall near the 60 freeway in Monterey Park. I tried calling right at 9am but couldn't get through so I tried again at 10am. Cash is always better for small businesses but they do take credit card. I believe there is a surcharge of $2? Let's take about the food-- I called today and wanted the yellow tail and salmon bowl but no dice. So I just got salmon. Good quality cuts that are cut professionally. Not sure how to explain it. But sometimes places cut their fish weird. The California roll was great. You can tell it is freshly made. They also include a miso soup with the bowl. I'm looking forward to ordering party trays for get togethers from here. Overall a great find. Under $15 for a sashimi bowl is unheard of these days. This place is made to order so call in advance to place your order. No room for seating, strictly takeout. The prices are also amazing. They offer party platters and offer a small discount if ordered 1 or 2 day in advance. Pay in cash to avoid any credit card service fees. You can park in front on the street for a quick pick up. Honest review. I really love their fish quality and our go to meal is the spicy tuna bowl. That's an amazing meal right there. Second would be their tasty CA rolls. One major complaint and flaw of this restaurant would be that they're so busy that they didn't care if some customers didn't reach them for phone orders. What I mean by it is that they have a non working phone number on both yelp and Google. I love their food so much that I even go out of my way to drive there to place an order but to only find out they asked if I was willing to come back 3 hours later. That defeats the purpose of trying to come back for dinner to order food for lunch. So food wise I would say 5 star. Trying to get your food though is mid. I give it 2 star. If you do get your food, you'll be happy with it. I think since this is a small mom and pop, they probably would do better hiring a little more help. read more

We love Sushi on Garfield! We live within a 7 min driving distance, and so it works for us to call first thing in the morning to schedule a lunch order pick up. We usually get the salmon bowl and an order of nigiri and California rolls. It's not the best sushi we've ever had, but for the price and local distance, you can't go wrong with it. It's a small, no frills mom and pop type of shop, so make sure you know what you're getting into. If you pay with cash, you save some money. And note that their hours have changed and they aren't open for dinner hours anymore (unless you eat dinner before 5pm). read more

It's so soft that it just melts in your mouth. I love this place. They serve fresh fish (salmon and spicy tuna) with yummy sides (croquette and tempura!) and soft soft rice, plus the presentation is so perfect. The Spicy Tuna roll is also sooo soft like the California roll. The bentos are so skillfully prepared as you can see the detailed work they put in with the salad and tempura sides. Bonus is everything is such an affordable price! To-Go only, though they have two small tables outside. There is only one chef and lots of customers, which is why you usually need to call 45 minutes to an hour in advance of picking up your food but boy oh boy is it worth the wait. GYAT this was so damn good. We called in the order at 3pm, but they said they were too busy to take on anymore orders. We left our number and they called us back at around 4pm. We placed our order and asked us what time we would like the food ready. We said 530 and it was ready for us when we pulled up. Crane and Chicken teriyaki bento was so damn good. The chicken was tender and flavorful. Potato croquet was fried perfectly, california roll and tempura roll was on point. Like seriously the calfornia roll was so damn good. Parking is available on the street or on fernfield, they have a small lot. I had called in my order at 3:46pm thinking my order might be ready within 10-15 minutes but said my order wasn't ready until 4:30pm. I didn't think it was an accurate time so I decided to come early at 4pm and they definitely weren't ready. My order was 15 mins earlier than their quoted time. Expect to call in ahead before your lunch. Even a gentleman who walked in wanted veggie tempura and was quoted 20 mins so he even left. I ordered the salmon sashimi bowl and spicy tuna roll since I've heard their spicy tuna is really good. Their food definitely was made fresh. My spicy tuna was not the typical red color. It was a bright pink color that was abnormal from what I'm used to but it didn't stop me from devouring it. Texture is well minced and didn't have a fishy taste. I would say that it did not taste like spicy tuna. No spicy flavor what so ever for me so could explain the neon pink color. Rice to fish ratio was great and roll was quite big. I didn't even eat the roll with soysauce or wasabi which made it that good. Their salmon sashimi bowl was even better. Salmon nigiri was generously sliced. The rice definitely was different from the roll. The lemon slice complements the vinegar rice soo well. Overall would definitely try again. I have given this location a try several times and although the quality of the food is very nice, the rest of the operations are problematic. After my experience last weekend I won't return. First off if you haven't been here trying to reach someone on the phone is impossible it's a small one man show, paper ticketing system handwritten. You have to go in make an order and come back to pick it up later. I went in on Sunday wanting to order one handroll. Visibly I could see there were a few orders but after talking with the cashier he said it would be over an hour wait for one handroll. What's clear to me is this owner/chef is stuck in his ways doesn't know how to prioritize but I've seen this behavior before. Truthfully it's just stubbornness and aversion to change in modern times. Not having an efficient ticketing system or POS for that matter can make things challenging. That being said their bowls, rolls and tempura are quite good, but making an order to this place shouldn't have to be this much of a hassle especially given the other Japanese restaurant competitors in the area. There are better options. That being said I'm all for supporting small business not something this archaic. Such a shame. read more

The total came out to be less than $20!! Talk about good sushi at a FANTASTIC PRICE. You can tell it's made fresh: sushi rice was NOT hard at all.
