They are located on Valley, a smaller plaza that isn't connected to the 99 ranch market. They have a small one way parking lot that you must reverse to get out. They also have a back entrance that you can enter from. If the parking lot is full, you can find some street parking or do what I did and park in the 99 ranch plaza just behind their small parking lot (or behind the brick wall). They have amazing artwork and "relics" throughout the restaurant. It is also dim creating a more intimate atmosphere. They have their own sushi chef who makes their rolls and sashimi. Their staff are completely top notch service! Even the owner came around and asked us how our service is going. I ordered some yakitori and Im new to the scene so I haven't seen many variations. I had to try their chicken skin. Like my friend described it to me, its like eating pork grinds because it is soooo crispy! Their pork belly was good, not too salty. We also ordered their stir fry noodles and it smelled delicious and looked great! We also ordered some sushi rolls and when we couldn't finish them, they gave us a sushi box to take home. It was very cute! However, the highlight of our dinner was their ube mochi!! Highly, no, MUST recommend getting this little piece of dessert! They do offer it as part of their catering option. You get a whole sheet pan, about 40 pieces for $75. They require a 24 hr notice for this order. The ube is grown in Hawaii and is only made in-house. We came to No 1Kazoku on for Sunday lunch because we were craving sushi in the Valley Blvd area. We got seated right away and were pleasantly surprised with the lunch special menu. We got the Monkey Brain and spicy yellowtail roll, which were on the normal menu. The spicy yellowtail roll was ok to me, I think i expected more of a spicy tuna mixture, but it was more of a yellowtail cut roll with spicy mayo in the roll. The Monkey Brain was one of my favorites, as it was warm and flavorful crabmeat on the inside and crispy and saucey on the outside. If you're looking for a restaurant that has delicious yakitori AND sushi AND Japanese cuisine, this is it. Service is always kind and speedy. However give more time for yakitori. Cavin, the owner, always greets each table and is so personable. The whole staff here is so attentive, friendly and professional. The yakitori always comes out piping hot and tasty. Hope They Improve We found this place through Yelp and were excited to try it because of all the glowing reviews from elite Yelpers. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected. The sashimi slices were way too thick, which made them unpleasant to eat, and the rolls were also cut too large, making them difficult to enjoy. The edamame was overcooked but served cold, which was confusing. One of the sushi pieces was so off-putting that the fish literally came right back out of our mouth--and that's never happened before. To make things worse, both of our stomachs were upset afterward. I'm not writing this review to discourage people from coming here--I'd honestly love to see improvements because this place has potential. But right now, the quality and execution just aren't there. From my one omakase experience, each dish was delicious and worth the price. Service was excellent with the workers checking in and explaining how to eat each fish. I could also tell that this place has a lot of regulars as well based on the warmness and familiarity the workers+sushi chefs have with some of the customers. I came here on a Sunday lunch and the vibes are great if you want to hang out with a small group of friends or on a easy, casual date. It's not too loud so you can hear your friends. The lunch menu is more limited compared to the dinner menu. I got the Chirashi Regular which came with 8 fat cuts of sashimi, 2 sweet eggs, 1 piece of fried chicken, masago, and seaweed salad all on top of a bed of sushi rice. I loved the sashimi, they were generous cuts. The fish didn't taste as fresh as I would've liked and the fried chicken piece wasn't crispy. I was last here approximately 10 years ago, the yakitori was normal size. Not sure why so small, if your trying to save money you'd be better off raising the price and have normal size yakitori. My friend and I have been going to this place for years now. Consistently good service, good quality fish, and good vibes. The first time we ordered Nigiri here, I was blown away as the quality was so good. I've been used to all the ayce or budget sushi places where the freshness and quality of the sushi wasn't as high. I've been drinking at a lot of high end sushi places in the following years and I think the freshness and quality are comparable. Of course the cost is higher here compared to other local joints but the quality and flavor reflects that very fairly. The rolls, yakitori, noodles, and other dishes are quite good as well. I've basically had everything on the menu at this point and if it's me parents birthday and they have no special requests, I usually take them here as they like the sushi here after the first time I brought them. I'll close this with, while I don't want to set the expectation too high as there are better places in little tokyo or Torrance, or whatever higher end restaurants you may have gone to, this is a local sushi place that offers great quality and reasonable price. The first time I came here was on a Sunday night, and I was very pleased. Would have given 4/5 stars! But my latest visit on a Saturday night brought the review down to 3/5. Here's why... Yakitori- Gizzard and beef tongue- both were very chewy and not juicy! Ankimo appetizer- this was probably the driest and most firm ankimo I've had. The cucumber slices were thick, with one piece under each ankimo chunk. They should have been thinly sliced, which would have soaked up the ponzu dressing. What saved this review was the sashimi.... Their food quality and service is top notch. I would recommend: Squid Legs, Yellowtail Sushi, Yellowtail Collar, and Pork Belly Skewers (takes almost half an hour). Soooo impressed! Came here for a lunch omakase (13 course) left super fulfilled. Called ahead to make a reservation for later the same week. There were 3 cold starters, 6 nigiri courses, and 3 hot kitchen courses, wrapped with a dessert made in house. My favorites for each category were: fresh live scallop with assorted fish eggs, kinmedai nigiri, sea conch, and japanese plum ice cream. I won't go into the details of all the dishes and ruin the surprise but wow, just wow. This is my favorite go to sushi bar, since work is close by (literally one block away) ! I love all the servers and sushi chefs they are extremely attentive & welcoming. They're always upbeat with a cheery smile, no rfb. kikusui junmai sake is a must! If you order the 1.8L & can't finish it you're able to leave it at the restaurant upon request and come back to drink later on the week. (They'll hold it for you in their fridge). Salmon - delicious ! Uni - delicious! Kobe beef - absolutely must try!!! Live sweet shrimp - impeccably delicious! (I love messing around with them) Ambiance gets kind of loud during the evening, but no worries- after a few drinks you'll forget about it. Came on a Friday night around 8pm and there was a wait. We found that when we left around 10pm there was still a lot of people waiting. We also found out that the sushi bar is only reserved for those who are planning to do omakase. So I guess you could skip the line if you'd want to do omakase. We were surprised to see bentos were only available for lunch and they were around $40-$50. Pricey for a lunch but I've got to say their fish is fresh! I ordered the ooka roll with 3 different types of fish and topped off with masago. I enjoyed it especially the masago. We also had the albacore garlic roll. Fresh, nice selection of Izakaya style foods and sushi rolls. Small area with tables that fit up to 6 people max. Great place for small families. The servers are pretty chill, not pushy. Sushi is super fresh. The skewers are slightly cheaper than other places around here. Most dishes are on the saltier side, would recommend taking that down a notch. Went for the 12 course 120 pp Omakase. They also offered a 14 course 185 pp Omakase which has more lobster based courses and it their "premium" offering. Came here on a Tuesday night around 7pm. Parking was easy and no wait! Restaurant wasn't packed but they were definitely busy. Party of 1!! No weird looks from the staff:) Their menu is a QR code and the only thing I would change about their menu is what is in each specialty roll. Because how am I supposed to know what a Kazoku roll is without wasting the waiter's time lol! This restaurant is allergy friendly:) I am allergic to tuna and egg and they made sure my roll did not have that. I got the beef tongue, chicken liver, and shrimp yakitori. All were soooo good. I would probably get the liver and beef tongue again. I liked the shrimp but I rather get more small bites than a whole shrimp. Sushi: Salmon handroll-fresh and tasty, wish there were some sprouts or cucumber but this was still plain and yummy. Halibut sushi-soooo good and fresh Salmon Belly sushi- I couldn't really tell the difference between the salmon in my handroll and the salmon belly. Usually I can taste the difference so not sure if they forgot. Scallop sushi-amazing. I LOVE when they put salt on the scallop. Just tastes so dam good. I got the Salmon secret lover sushi roll and it was so good. The portion was a lot bigger than I expected. I had to sub the crab meat with cucumber and avo because I'm allergic to the mayo in the crab meat and they were super nice and weren't sassy like 75% of other places with their "no substitution".
