If you're looking for good vibes and amazing sushi, SOPO won't disappoint. We designated this as our "go to" sushi spot a few years ago and never looked back, which says a lot considering we eat sushi at least once a week and often try new places for fun. SOPO's food is always consistent and fresh. I highly recommend booking a reservation if you plan to visit on the weekend. We have brought countless friends here and everyone always raves about it. Our favorites are the Nando roll, any and all nigiri options with the executive chef toppings, Blue Crab Fried Rice, HTX roll (especially to those that think they don't like raw fish - it's a great intro to sushi), and the King Salmon sashimi. Their specials are pretty good too! My only nit is the inconsistency of service at times, but the restaurant industry generally has high turnover so I'm not sure that's attributable to the restaurant itself. My fiancé got a cocktail, lunch special, soup, and I had a water lunch special and seaweed salad. This came out to a hundo. Yep, $100. Now, that being said, food was very good and the portions were fair for the price. My only knocks were that it took a long time from sitting, ordering, and receiving our food. All of those processes took a while as we didn't see our server that often. We had to flag him down a couple times (and we were sitting at the bar). The people next to us came in after us, got their food before, and we kind of felt like we were a bit of an after thought. Regardless, you go for the food and enjoy your time. I used to love coming to this place, but my last experience will prevent me from patronizing at all, going forward. I come on lunch, often, and have always ordered the lunch special "Two Specialty Rolls," with one being "Miso Happy" and the other "Phili Squared." On my last visit, I was told I couldn't order the Miso Happy roll because it was "a part of Happy Hour menu, not lunch special." I asked why every other time I've ordered this exact combination of rolls with no issue, to which she responded "I just work here." That's one of the worst responses to give a client in any situation. I explained that I was seated at a time that the lunch special and Happy Hour coincided (2-3p), and that even the opportunity cost of having the Miso Happy was less because it only sells for $16, period. They would be essentially discounting the Phili Squared roll and any other I'd have chosen because those rolls are menu-priced at $21+ and the special gives you two for $32... not the most sound decision on their behalf. I eventually left the restaurant without ordering, but was sure to contact management as I left. I was handled by a lady, who, while nice, stated she was only filling in as she works at the sister restaurant. I was assured I'd be contacted regarding this, and I was, but only to say "they said this is the rule and I don't know much more that I can tell you." Another poor response. I asked for someone to contact me who actually works at this restaurant concept to better understand why I've only run into this issue this one time, never in my many previous visits, and she assured me I'd be contacted within a couple days. That was one month ago, and I have not been contacted since. Such a shame because the food is tasty, and usually service is prompt and courteous. The rolls came with a bowl of miso soup. The miso soup didn't have a strong miso taste. Funnily, the soup had lotsa slices of mushroom but only one or two very small cubes of tofu. The SOPO roll was just ok. No exciting flavors in the roll. The Blazing Tuna roll wasn't spicy. I was expecting bursting flavors from this roll because of the description. I stopped in here today for happy hour because I was craving sushi. Waited for about five minutes to be seated as the hostess wasn't at the stand, then as I ordered, two rolls off the happy hour i noticed one contained sesame. I have a sesame allergy and when I told the server that I had one, he rudely just grabbed the roll off my table and didn't say anything and walked away. He later came back to say that they can't make it without sesame, but if he had waited and let me finish and didn't rudely walk away, he would've known that I no longer wanted the roll. This was my first visit here and I must admit it's a nice space, friendly vibe-fun spot with great sushi bar seating where we sat, and also plenty enough tables considering the place isn't very large. We ordered a number of nigiri sushi , crudo options, and various rolls , and all were quite good and very fresh. And what makes it even more appealing is the very reasonable prices . Started off with the miso soup. I would say it is the perfect blend of salt and soup.. if that makes any sense lol. It was lunch, so light and on the go was what I went with. The place is a bougie atmosphere where people dress up.. Even for lunch which always blows my mind but that is a rant for another day. The service was excellent and very attentive. It is a very upscale, chat with your friends, and catch up on life kind of vibe. 5 stars for food, service, and ambiance!! I saw this place was hot and new so we wanted to try it before it got too busy and crowded! The lychee mule was delicious! We had these for our drinks all night and they were refreshing with just a hint of lychee so it wasn't overly sweet. Our waiter had informed us that they recently expanded their menu, so I'll have updated pics with my review since it's more current than what's online. For the apps, we got the fried calamari and the eight wonder. The fried calamari was seasoned well and it was actually a huge portion! The eight wonder was SO freaking good. It's a tower of spicy rice, avocado, chopped scallops, spicy tuna, salmon, snow crab, habernero masago, wasabi tobiko, and homemade wonton chips. Highly recommend this app! For our entrees, we got 3 rolls-the nando, millennium, and midtown roll. I enjoyed all 3 of them. The millennium is great for tuna lovers-especially with the peppered tuna. The nando roll had spicy tuna, yellowtail, and salmon but I really enjoyed the spicy citrus miso on top. The midtown roll with the chopped scallops went well with the salmon and snow crab. Hit and Miss I really wanted to love this place - the service was excellent and the sushi bar is welcoming. The basics shined - you won't be disappointed in the miso or the sake. The shrimp starter was delicious and incredibly flavorful. The batter is too thick and not crunchy enough but the dish still earns 5 stars. Unfortunately, I didn't love my spicy yellowtail or spicy tuna rolls. No complaints about the fish itself but that got overwhelmed by other bland flavors. Sushi on Post Oak is an excellent restaurant, the sushi is always fresh and and food is incredible. They have the best Lobster Crab Puffs ever, so delicious, I order them every time I visit. The Korean Steak & Eggs with kimchi fried rice, the Kobe Burger with sautéed mushrooms and truffle fries, and the Glazed Salmon with green bean tempura are the best. The speciality rolls are so good and they also make the traditional rolls, sashimi, nigiri, and hand rolls. If someone in the party isn't into sushi, there are plenty of Japanese style entrees too. If you're looking for a place for a nice lunch special, they have Bento Boxes specials and lunch sushi combos from 11am to 3pm Monday to Friday. In addition to their excellent food, their back bar and liquor selection is one of the best in the city and really matches the vibe and decor of the restaurant and the wine list is really elevated. It's a really great place to bring a date or have a night nice out, or if you're in the town or by yourself, there's plenty of bar seats and a TV to enjoy whatever current sports game is playing. Natsuki the area director and Andy the GM are always there to make sure your experience is excellent. We are a once a week sushi kind of family. How we have never been to Sushi on Post Oak until tonight is beyond me. For starters, the service was excellent. Our server, Kalyse, was spot on with her recommendations. She recommended the Kanpai Roll, which was spicy yellowtail, cucumber, avocado, and a candied jalapeno on top. This may be one of my favorite rolls ever. We followed up with the Blazing Tuna, the Surf and Turf (the kobe was fantastic) and the SOPO. As delicious and filling as it was, since it was our first time here (but definitely not our last), we also ordered the Rocket Combo. When it came out, it was already split onto two plates for us. Service was great. The vibe was busy and energetic, near capacity at 9:30p on a Saturday night. Drinks here are reasonable for HH 4-7 dollars cocktail. The drinks and food came out quickly and had no issues with the service. Great crowd and , it wasn't too loud either. We sat near the door and it got a little windy and cold as ppl went in and out the door. Other that every was excellent. Fish was fresh and the uni shooter was delicious. Was looking for a late night sushi place on a Thursday night and came across Sushi on Post Oak! We thought they closed at midnight because of the posted time on Yelp but they actually closed at 11pm . We felt so bad getting there 10 minutes before last call at 10:45pm but they were soooo nice, kind, and professional and never rushed us. Loved everything here from the ambiance to the service and the delicious food! Portions were generous and came out so fast! We arrived to Houston and stayed at the JW Marriott by the Galleria. We decided to walk around the area to find dinner. We decided on sushi! Walked into this cute spot! Upon entering, we were in awe.
