Overall, great social spot for after work or for dinner to get some sushi plus more in the Galleria area. I can't compare this to the same level as MF Sushi and Uchi, but it's definitely up there on my other top sushi restaurants. Menu: Great range of hot/cold items, raw/cooked rolls, large/small plates, and hand rolls. It's a great menu for a group with mixed food preferences. Specialty rolls all sound unique (see menu). They also have lunch specials as well, which means it can be good lunch spot in the Post Oak/ Galleria area. Keep in mind it is sushi/Galleria prices. Location: This is slightly tucked away in the Post Oak Shopping Center with Dick's Sporting Goods, Maggiano, Container Store, and Starbucks. With it being tucked away, it does make it easier avoiding cars going in and out of the outlet. Next door, there's a cool modern Irish pub if you need a place to hop to. Parking: Plenty of parking since it shares a lot in the shopping center. Food: - Sushi was good, but I thought the small plates were even better for some reason. We got two specialty rolls (Shoi and Lickity Split, see pics). Both were delicious and topped off with the house trio sauce. Since they have the same sauce, I wished we had gotten one different roll. I would recommend getting one or the other (not both) if you are just trying to taste as much on the menu. In addition, we got two toro pieces, which I couldn't complain about. I've been to places like MF Sushi and Uchi, and I can't say it's at the same level but still good! - Other items: We also ordered the Truffle Tuna (light, bright, fresh with crispy garlic) , Dynamite Shrimp (crispy tempura, perfectly cooked shrimp at a good size), and Lobster Crab Puffs (crispy but light, warm, creamy). I would highly recommend all of these! Drinks: We got the Lychee Martini (not overly sweet, just the right balance of sweetness), the Dragon (bright magenta colored cocktail, instagram worthy, tasty). I would recommend both of these! Service: I couldn't complain much about service especially for just being open. Staff kept checking up on us once in awhile. Ambiance: Modern, clean restaurant with and added touch of fun with their pink neon signs "Here For the Sake". Notes of blue, white, warm wood ceiling, and velvet chairs. I would recommend this for a date night especially since there's a bar next door with darts and games. Also, it's would be a good spot for after work as well. Outdoor Seating: Available outside that's is under a covered area. read more

I was really impressed with this place just walking in. There is cute signage, and a good atmosphere going at all times. They even have a connecting door with the bar next-door. My server was so incredible. I cannot say that enough he was so attentive and so friendly and kind it's exactly what I needed to wrap up my business trip, the sushi was amazing and of course the sushi was so good. They ship in their sushi at four times a week and I find that incredible. As someone who is coming from Utah. This place was a must go. I grew up in California having the best access to fish, and this definitely rivals some of the best places like Nobu in California. I had the martini and it was delish! read more

Absolutely wonderful. Gabby was a wonderful server. Her recommendations were fantastic. The food was so good. Definitely the best sushi we have had in ages. We will be regulars. Uber-modern, great location, and fast service! I had dinner with a couple of friends here and really enjoyed my meal! I got the Volcano roll, which showed up on a little skillet (on fire!) and was amazing!! I was not expecting it to be a warm roll, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. It was stuffed with crab, salmon, and topped with scallops-- very unique, but very tasty. I washed it down with the Dragon cocktail, which was beautiful and tasty. read more

Love this place! The food is so good and the service is awesome. We had Jacob and he was so kind and gave great recommendations. The most amazing dish we had was the blue crab fried rice, such amazing flavors! The Volcano roll was also really yummy as well. The sushi and dessert were excellent. The ambience is nice... low soft date night lighting. The seating and tables are a little cafe-ish and less upscale, but it's not a big deal. I've gone a couple of times and would gladly go back if I happen to be in the area. The service was great as well. read more

We sat at the bar and the service was amazing! Ordeee the sopo roll and the seafood tower was amazing! I had a lychee martini which was a bit strong, but they gave me a second drink in the house with lime and jalapeño tequila which was soooo good! They even hooked us up with some yellowtail sashimi. The inside had a nice vibe with blue led lighting and cute signs. They showed us the next door pub which was also connected to this open party area which was super neat. Only ordered the specialty sushi rolls (5 rolls in total) it isn't necessarily bad but it's certainly disappointing when you consider the other options around Houston not to mention the at they're pricing their specialty rolls around the $20 range. Not bad but wouldn't eat again and will be sticking to other spots in the Houston area. Edit: just had a few more bites...this sushi stinks. Great service and delicious food! We had the lobster crab puffs, tuna & salmon tacos, salmon & toro nigiri! We also had the salmon crudo which was perfectly paired with Champagne Madame Zero Rose'! We also had the Choo Choo rolls and the Unforgettable rolls which had the foie gras on top. Yum! My kids had the burger off the kids menu. And let me say, they make this amazing delicious soft bun in house and it's so good! It's the same buns they use on their kobe burger. You can also access the Irish Bar next door. read more

This review is for service. Came here to meet a friend and celebrate his birthday so we were excited! I had been before but not him. I came in, waited in the lobby for my friend without a single acknowledgment from any staff member, paced back and forth for a few minutes, continued to wait then my friend joined me and we continued to wait together. A woman came in a few minutes later and a server quickly appears to acknowledge her but not me/us so I step up and let them know, I was there first. The server then ignores me and continues to help the woman. I ask....did you have a reservation? No. Did the server then ask who was there first? No. Did we stay...heck no. We left but it just bothered me considering I had just told her that I had been waiting first so we went back in to ask her why she would do that. It happened so quickly that when we walked back in, the original hostess and patron were still at the hostess stand bit another hostess is now also standing there and proceeds to try to gaslight me...and she wasn't even there the first time...They were busy, didn't see me, etc. Miss...that doesn't upset me at all. Of course you are busy, it's lunch time and I can see you're busy. You didn't see us behind the wall, that's okay too. When you have more than one person waiting however, the protocol is usually to ask who they can help next...no? Maybe I'm wrong and this is all normal now. I just expected more and it bummed me out to have a place we chose for a celebratory meal actually make us feel like they didn't care about our patronage at all. We ended up eating at the corner and it was fabulous so the celebration was a success and we didn't let anything or anyone ruin our happy occasion! I gave two stars because I did call the manager to let them know that first door staff should be trained properly on how to greet multiple guests so as not to turn anyone off. He was gracious enough to hear me out which I did appreciate. So why the bad service review? This was our second less than par service issue we've had here but came back because we did love the cod dish....just not enough to have mediocre service at any price...again...and definitely not at after that first time encounter for my friend. Review based on history: Ambiance: fun, lively, chic Food: Hit or miss depending on what you get. Did not love the sushi rolls but did enjoy the sashimi and cod. The cod is best ordered at lunch in the bento. Service: meh to no way Jose Does service outweigh food? Sometimes for me it will. In this case...yes. Will we try it again? Maybe but it will be some time. If we do, I'll post an updated review! read more

I went for happy hour and I think I found my new spot! The service was great, it's super cute inside and the food was amazing! I got the lychee martini, Brussels sprouts, Chili yellowtail and crab fried rice. The yellowtail was sooo good and spicy, I'll be back specifically for that! Everything was 10/10 except the fried rice only had a tiny amount of crab. Also happy hour is from 2-6 which is unheard of in this area. read more

Second time visiting this establishment & I tried something new & everything was fresh and delicious! The customer service was outstanding! My server was very knowledgeable and attentive, one of the managers checked in just to make sure everything was ok, & their was someone always prebussing! For starters, I had the truffle tuna and Thai chili yellowtail! Yum! I was indecisive between the HTX roll and Blazing tuna! The manager told me the blazing tuna was his normal "go to" and I'm so glad I trusted his opinion! 10/10 highly recommend! read more

The food and service at SOPO is amazing!! Our server Victor was very friendly, took his time to explain the menu to us and give us some of his recommendations since it was our first time here. The dragon cocktail is a MUST if you come here. We got two rolls, the Black Widow and the Shrimp O'Licious as well as the Dynamite Shrimp for an appetizer. Everything was 10/10. The manager Natsuki stopped by our table to greet us and make sure everything came out perfect, he was so kind and welcoming. I would rate this as average. The location and decor of the restaurant were attractive enough to visit. The service and food lack a better rating. We were not well attended to - I noticed that they did a great job of greeting new customers but really disappointed in the ongoing attention. The rolls were beautiful, but lacked flavor; likely more of a chef problem in the construction of taste. The fish was not super fresh. read more

Great experience! I had a reservation and ended up coming in about 2 hours earlier and they were able to accommodate me since their were open tables at the time. The server was friendly and attentive, food and drinks were delicious, and we even went to the Irish pub next door! The decor in both the restaurant and pub was so cute and both places were very clean. All in all I would recommend. read more

Just had a racist experience here from the manager NASHUKI (Nasuki). My friends and I came here for dinner on Saturday night March 16. We ordered a few appetizers, such as the Brussels sprouts and the crab wontons. About 5 minutes after putting in our order, a lady comes by with the happy hour menu saying happy hour started. We asked our waiter why weren't we told about the happy hour because some of the things we ordered were on the happy hour menu. After asking the waiter if he could fix it, he went and got the manager (Nasuki). Nasuki came to our table with a disgusting attitude. We simply asked if our order could be placed for the happy hour price since we weren't told about it and he said "it's nothing I can do, have a nice night" and literally rolled his eyes and walked away. It was the most shocking and unnecessary experience I've ever had from an employee let alone a manager. Even the waiter looked shocked. I then asked the waiter if there was another manager that i could speak to and he said no. My friend went to Nasuki after noticing him talking about the situation to another coworker. My friend explained to Nasuki that the way he handled the situation was rude and that we don't have a problem paying the price difference but we would've just liked to have known about the happy hour. Nasuki pointed towards the door and told my friend "if you don't like it you can leave" my friend then came back to the table and said she was asked to leave and we all left. Nasuki needs to be fired. Sushi on Post Oak will lose a lot of business because of his poor management skills and nasty attitude. Won't be back. The encounter felt racist because of his seemingly preconceived notion that because we were African American we wanted to skip out on our bill. read more

The food was good. Sushi was nice Everyone should double check your tab. We were overcharged on drinks. McCallan 12 yr. Price on menu $22, price charged $24 dollars. I brought it up to the manager. He stated "Industry Standard for on the rocks drinks". I inquired more. I asked him how many people order expensive whiskey with coke? No good answer was received. I had it on the rocks. When I asked why the wine was $15 dollars a glass instead of the $14 listed he stated that was their mistake. Frustrating end to a decent meal. Just remember to review your checks. The list price and the actual price are not the same. read more

This may go down as my favorite sushi meal of the year. It was THAT good. For cocktails, we had the dragon and the strawberry basil drinks. Both were good. We then had the Brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Very delicious and cooked perfectly. Our phenomenal server, Victor, suggested the Kanpai and Blazing Tuna rolls, and they were delicious. Generous size, and the 2 of us were full from 2 rolls. I also highly recommend the carrot cake, which is not a traditional carrot cake. Definitely coming back . We came for happy hour had a lechee martini. Edema I. Chicken wings and one roll. We got full so fast that we couldn't try the sushi. Edemame and chicken wings where great ! Found out about this place through an Instagram account, so I decided to come for lunch with my girlfriend, and SO glad that I did. We came starving, which gave us the opportunity to try several dishes, all which were delicious! We had the blue crab corn soup, chili yellowtail, spicy edamame, truffle fries, bbq short ribs, the SOPO roll, the HTX roll, and the "not yet on the menu" bread pudding. The Karaage was too sweet for my liking and had too much fish sauce. The Steak Frites were good, but they would have been much more enjoyable if they had arrived on time. I'm not sure what happened with the Steak Frites, but considering they did not come out until after we told our server we were finished with our meal, it felt like the order may have been forgotten or not entered in a timely manner. To make the experience even more frustrating, when we received our bill, we noticed that we had also been charged for an extra burger that we never ordered. After everything that had already happened with the timing and service, seeing an additional item incorrectly added to our tab just made the overall experience even more disappointing. Overall, this visit was disappointing, especially because my previous two experiences here were genuinely amazing. I know this restaurant is capable of providing much better food and service, which is why this experience stood out so much compared to my previous visits.

The katsu kare don was one of the better tonkatsu I've tried and very reasonable for the price too. I'd probably go with that one if I come back.

Also, there was like Tofu on the bento box and we asked if we could get subutuite that and we were told no. Really, so we are paying for something we don't want; like or even going to eat. Wow. However, I will not return. Houston had good food, but this place failed Houston.

My last visit was particularly poor with long wait times between courses and I had to politely flag down our server several times to ask for another drink or to order additional food. The waiter didn't care to offer any food suggestions or recognize it was my father's birthday after I mentioned that early on. Our meal took almost 2 hours for a party of 2 people who eat sushi quickly. The waiter seemed overworked/busy yet didn't make any apologies for the delays. I was also disappointed by the wagyu clay stone dish. It was $95 (market price) and I don't recall it being nearly that expensive the last time I had it. They didn't care to remind us how to properly cook it until I asked, and I'm not sure the stone was hot enough because it took a couple minutes to get the meat medium-rare. Usually 20-30 seconds on each side does the trick because the meat is thin. I still recommend this place and will certainly go back because I live nearby, but I hope they improve upon the service issues because if this happens again I'll think twice before returning. There are so many other places that offer great sushi and service in Houston.
