i confess to having driven past sushi palace many times, wondering who in their right mind would eat fish from the middle of hempstead turnpike. i realized my mistake one day when i arrived at a friend's house and found her sitting in bed, rolls, edamame, miso, and a sushi palace menu spread out before her. what? so next fix, we went, and i took all that noise back. the space is nothing much - 5 or 6 tables, a couple of wall hangings, and a little sushi bar - but it's surprisingly calm considering the unfortunate location. the waitress gives you a little basket of hot towels when you sit down, and makes recommendations kindly. the menu has all your standard sushi options, as well as some specialty rolls and cooked dishes like rice bowls and noodles. you can get a nice boat with a bunch of chef's choice sushi and a special roll of your choosing for $40. if you're trying to impress someone, i would suggest venturing out of the general hempstead area, but this is good for lunch or dinner with friends who already know the deal. solids: - spicy white tuna, mango, avocado roll - LOBSTER MAKI (rolled in pretty red, green, black, and gold caviars) - spider roll - tempura soup - tempura green tea ice cream good, cheap sushi, and excellent service. plus a star for being near school, for delivery, and for a nice sit-down experience, thus saving me from standing in the subarctic star wok for 45 minutes for a lesser meal. dope. read more

Sushi Palace is the best. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. So many of the patrons speak with the waitresses by their first name, which shows they have true repeat customers. The 2nd time I brought my best friends family here they gave us a complementary appetizer, thanking me for my business. (I go there at least once a month). I usually get the same dish every time and it never disappoints. The menu is huge and everything is great. I am so lucky this place is close to home and I can walk there if I get a craving. I do still love Mikado in Lynbrook but since I moved to West Hempstead, this is my sushi place. I have turned some friends on and I cant wait to take more of them here. read more

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Quaint spot with a few tables, a couple friendly servers, and straight-forward menu. Between two people: Dragon Roll ($13), Rainbow Roll ($11), and Salmon Avocado Roll ($4.50). Dragon roll is served warm with wonderful dressing slathered all over. The rainbow and salmon avocado rolls were nothing to write home about - standard sushi fare. An okay spot in an area where sushi places are few and far between. Loved the Nabeyaki Udon which is noodles with chicken, pork, vegetables, egg and with shrimp tempura on top in a cast Iron bowl. It was hot, delicious and filling. Tonight was our first time here... took us a while to come because the outside is not very inviting, but after reading all the great reviews here on Yelp, compounded by the recommendation of a friend, we decided to give it a shot! I used to go to this place a lot (weekly). For years I was a regular because the food was good and the prices were great, not to mention it is a small quiet place for me an my husband to get away for a quick date. We often noticed that the woman (May) was selectively nice to some people and short (to rude) with others. She was always short with us (but not to the point of rude) and then someone else would come in and she'd be syrupy sweet (with a high pitched voice and a fake laugh). Because of the pluses stated at the top of my post, we decided to ignore her as long as she didn't take it too far. One evening, we decided to eat there and as we sat down she blurted out loudly, "You left here without paying the last time you we here!" Mind you there were customers present. Let me say that I have NEVER left ANY PLACE with out paying, NEVER. So we reply, What?!!!!! She says, "what you left was short by $9." OMG!!! My husband and I were highly insulted. We both looked at each other and decided we'd never return there again. So I asked her to repeat the amount. I then pulled out $9, dropped it on the table and then began to walk out. Seeing that we were highly insulted, she then tried to clean it up, "Oh I didn't say you were a thief." In a quiet voice I told her "You don't have to worry because we will not be back." All of this occurred as people looked on. She should be ashamed of herself. Is this how you treat your repeat customers? First of all, She could have pulled us aside to speak quietly. Second, none of this makes sense. As WEEKLY REGULARS, why would I not pay and then return a few days later. SMH My advice is to stay away from this place. The reason for the huge differences in the reviews is because the food is GREAT but MAY is all over the place. So it makes sense to me that some ppl think she's attentive and nice and others have experienced her abrupt and rude side. It's a really weird thing to watch as it's so random. I would say she needs to be fired but I suspect she is one of the owners or a relative - not sure. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. read more
