Stopped by Planet Sushi with my teenage son for dinner our way back to the Valley. Vibe was sorta Manhattan with an upbeat playlist - lost of black and neon. Wait was short at 8pm. We ordered an Oh My God Roll, a Rainforest Roll, a Spicy Tuna Roll and an Eel Avocado Roll. They were all good, but the Rainforest Roll was the least-good value but probably the most difficult/time-consuming to make. It tasted fine but I definitely would not order it again for $13.95. The other roles were good and fairly priced. Our ticket was $43.33 before tip. This is a decent place and I would come again, but not necessarily a top destination. Came here for a late lunch. Staff is really friendly. As for the food, I thought it was okay. I've had better sushi. The Yakisoba was good. I ordered with Tofu. The beef was delicious too. You can't go wrong with any choice. The picture on the menu is deceiving. I thought it was a small plate because the picture was of a small plate of Yakisoba. The gf and I love sushi. We've tried every sushi place from here to Timbuktu. So it was about time we made our way north on the 101 to Camarillo to try one of the other sister restaurants, the others being in Westlake Village (our fav), Newbury Park, and Moorpark. The menus are the same at each. This past Saturday night at 745pm, this place was packed. It's a small 2 room place with no outside seating (I don't think). The first room has a tiny bar, and the second room has a long sushi bar for dining, and about 10 tables. Note: it's definitely doesn't have the hip & fun feel that Westlake Village has, but it's definitely more neighborhoody. We have our favorites (so we didn't venture too far), and they didn't at all disappoint. Among them, are the Deluxe 911 [$13.95, 5.0 stars], Sumo Roll [$12.95, 4.5 stars], and the Samurai Roll [$12.95, 4.5 stars]. On this night, I had draft Sapporo [$3.95/glass], but normally we love the unfiltered Sho Chiku Bai Nigori sake [$11.95, 4.5 stars]. We a small parking lot of their own (10-12 spaces), and free & easy parking on the street...this is a no-brainer for in/out great sushi without a hassle. read more

My husband is Japanese and has some pretentious (annoying) standards for sushi. He scoffs at "Americanized sushi" places like this, but I just love me some deep-fried cream cheese sushi with mayo sauce on it, so I make him take me here. What a hypocrite -- he scarfs down the rolls here as fast as I do! We typically order 2 rolls each and leave quite full. Here are some of our favorites: MR. TOMMY $10.50 = shrimp tempura, cucumber, and avocado, topped with spicy imitation crab salad and tempura flakes BAKED SALMON ROLL $11.95 = imitation crab salad, cucumber, and avocado, topped with salmon GALAXY ROLL $13.50 = spicy tuna and cucumber, topped with avocado and your choice of salmon/yellowtail/albacore/tuna SUMO ROLL $12.95 = shrimp tempura and avocado, topped with tuna Service was friendly, attentive, and FAST! We got our first roll within 4 minutes, and then the remaining rolls were served in 3 minute increments after that. Definitely appreciated when you're hungry! Only annoyance was when the lights suddenly dimmed and a birthday song blasted. It was obnoxiously loud. I love to celebrate special days, but damn, my ears were ringing afterwards. For a moment there, I seriously thought the space was turning into a nightclub. Location is in Old Town Camarillo on Ventura Blvd across from Bella Capri Inn. The place is off the freeway! The service is great and fast. The fish by the way is what gets the 5 stars!!! Quality is absolutely over exceeding at this place. Presentation, cut of the fish, and quality. The price wasn't bad at all and happy hour is daily until November of this year. Been there numerous times and have never had a bad experience. The staff always have the warmest of welcomes and are very attentive. Seating can be tight at times but they do their best to accommodate and have to seated quickly. They also have bar seating if that's your thing. A few TV's with some shows or sports on. I'm not sure if this is family owned but it feels like it in the good way. The waiters/waitresses are very quick and check up constantly to make sure you're good and check if you need anything else. I'm no sushi aficionado but I think it's pretty good, always enjoyed what I got, though my palette is pretty limited due to my shellfish allergy. If you like fast service and good sushi I highly recommend this place. Next time I go I'll try to get some images of the food for yelp viewers. read more

I don't like raw fish much but I love salmon sushi here ., so fresh ., feel like it could melt in my mouth ..., and garlic edamame is the best , so tasty , full favor ., I could eat it with rice on its own & taste is just right ... I LOVE this place!!! Stumbled in on my day off for a lunch special. I am brand new to the fish & sushi world and my server was extremely kind and helpful guiding me through the different rolls. I decided to try the Chicken Teriyaki bento box lunch special. It came with the best Miso Soup I have ever had and a healthy green salad. I also had a California Roll with it (my first time) and really enjoyed it! He even brought me a free appetizer with crab in it and I loved it. The entire experience was wonderful. He was very attentive and sweet. I ate alone and felt comfortable here. I have tried a dozen other similar places in the area and this is by far the best tasting sushi place. Every time i come here i wait 30+ regardless if it busy or packed. i've been here a hand full of times before i wrote this review, but this place makes you wait and absurd amount of time. Once i FINALLY HAD TO COMPLAIN AND GET MY ORDER of an avocado roll, it was so sloppy three (3) pieces fell on the floor. but i honestly didn't even care solely because the service was so short between all of my and my friends i just wanted to get out of their. Extremely small sushi rolls in a dark little dungeon of a restaurant with absolutely no ambience at all. I am a small person who fills up quickly but I felt like I could have had 10 rolls and still would have left hungry. It was offensive tiny. This was my second time here and we had a horrible experience!! We were by Camarillo so decided to stop by for some sushi since our first time was a great experience. This time around we didn't have a good experience. The waitress took our order and on her way back with our drinks the waitress dropped 4 iced cold waters on my back wetting my entire back of my sweater, my son's pants since he was sitting next to me and my purse, not something I was happy about since it was a very cold and windy evening. I understand accidents do happen and I didn't let that ruin our family dinner. We waited for the mess to get cleaned up, they didn't offer another table we simply stood around while we waited for them to clean the mess. We didn't make a fuss about the whole situation, we wanted to enjoy our dinner. We finally got to order our food, got our rolls and had a peaceful dinner. At the end when the bill came the waitress said she would give you the edamame on the house for wetting me with iced cold water. We were thankful we didn't say one single thing or complain, but for a mess up like that I would expect at least 10% discount off our bill, but instead removed the cheapest thing off the bill. We were able to escape the madness of the Camarillo street Fiesta by dipping into Sushi Planet for a light meal. We were seated right away and we're immediately served our delicious garlic edame. I highly recommend this appetizer, and in fact we ordered a second round of them. The service was good and the staff is very friendly. The food was hot, fresh and very flavorful. The portion size is large and and worth the price it's listed as. I love sushi and have high expectations and sushi planet passes the test. My friends were also pleased with their dishes, and enjoyed the whole experience. I definitely will be back to this location when I'm craving that edame and fried rice with tuna on top. So disorganized. Limited English spoken. So placing an order for pick up I was told 30 minutes. Opening the door the vestibule is big enough for 1 person and the guys in the kitchen had the music up loud and were dancing. Most of my order sat ready to package (including the baked scallop roll that had been kissed by the salamander and was stone cold by the time I got it home). I was told 5-20 minutes more and to wait in my car. Twenty five minutes passed and I observed others come and go. So I got out of my car to be greeted, you guessed it but no hostess. She was running around looking stressed. She raced back to the kitchen to check on the rest of my order and came back to tell me 10 more minutes. When I finally got home about 2 hours after placing my order everything was cold. Even the two hot rolls we'd ordered. I told my wife when I got home that we should have known there would be trouble after she had a hard time placing the order with the hostess. Ah well, so much for trying something new. We always see this restaurant from the 101Fwy on the way home from the Outlets. We decided this time to stop here and pick up dinner. Because of Covid there is no indoor or outdoor seating, so we just parked in their parking lot and ate our dinner in the car. The hostess was really nice and the ordering process was quick. She allowed us to eat in our car in the parking lot. The food was really good and is at a reasonable price compared to other sushi restaurants around the area. While shopping in Camarillo today, I decided to drop in give their food a sampling. It was about 1:00 pm and I was the only non-employee in the restaurant, so I was a little concerned about the popularity of this restaurant. Yellowtail - tender & delicious Tuna - thick & clumsily cut, but sufficiently fresh Albacore - tender & delicious In addition, I ordered a roll that consisted of tempura shrimp & cucumber inside, spicy tuna & spicy sauce outside. It was very tasty with a long-lasting spice, so be forewarned. Here's my guess: The people over at Exotic Thai realized their business was dwindling with their mediocre repertoire of Thai cuisine. To present a curveball, they decided to jump into the fad of sushi joints in Camarillo. However, they grew too attached to their old menu, so they stuck with that too. The Thai food is forgettable. The sushi might have some promise. On the other hand, I guess you can give them points for being the only Thai-and-Japanese-but-not-Thai/Japanese-Fusion restaurant in perhaps anywhere for hundreds of miles. But you can definitely see how much more they market their sushi menu than the Thai. My order: Tuna special sushi (without masago) and cashew nut chicken. The sushi came within three minutes of placing the order. A nice ratio of rice to maguro was well-noted. Topped with a spicy red pepper powder, sesame seeds, scallion, and swimming in a very spicy ponzu (soy sauce and lemon) with hot chili sesame oil mixture. The first bite made my mouth numb, but I was definitely able to appreciate the well-seasoned order. I might also add that the presentation was attractive. One order consisted of two pieces. The damage? About six bucks. What else did I order? Hmm.... oh yeah, the cashew nut chicken. I already forgot about it. You would too. Get this order at Thai Chinese Food in Oxnard. It's better by far and you'll definitely feel better not paying the eleven bucks I had to pay here at Sushi Planet. Two stars. Would have been one if it had not been for the decent order of sushi I had and for their above-average presentation. Would have been three if it had not been for their blah Thai food. Last note: Strangely, the water they serve is very good. It's definitely not Camarillo tap. read more

Ok so my friends said this place is good but expensive. I didn't care about the cost of the sushi as long as it was good. So when I get there to pick up my order. $125 order. I asked for siracha and they said it's extra. I could not believe that. I've never been charged for sauce at my usual sushi place. Ever! Little did I know they'd already charged me for some. Seriously the most horrific experience I have ever had at a sushi bar. My girlfriends and I walked in to sushi planet on a weekday at 2 PM. We were greeted immediately by a woman in distress named Kai. She said I just want to let you know that the kitchen closes in 20 min. We said that that was fine and she again said "okay 20 minutes". We got seated at our table and handed menus, I kid you not... this woman "Kai" stood in front if our table staring at us with her pen in hand waiting to write down our order. It was SO unprofessional and irritating. After a minute of her standing rudely in front of us (making us feel incredibly uncomfortable I might add) she said "okay you ready?" We all replied with no we just started to look please give us a minute... I was so upset that I just picked something to get her out of our hair. Once we put our orders in she said "Ok that will be enough for you right? You don't need anymore." (Uh RUDE!?!) I then said didn't you say that the kitchen closes in 20 minutes? And she said yeah but you have to order now. Anyway, My girlfriends get their sushi rolls, and 20 minutes go by and I still hadn't received mine? I asked kai where it was and she looked at me and didn't answer. She walked over to the sushi bar and asked where it was. The sushi chef started laughing and joked about forgetting my roll. (Let me just add that there was only one other person dining in the restaurant, how could they forget anything !?! To think this place could get any worse... Not too shabby! I actually did not know what to expect from this place. My friends go here all the time and love it! This is a fairly small place, unless there was more seating somewhere we didn't see. Parking can be a bit of a pain, though they have their own lot, it only hold about 6-7 spaces. We came here on a Saturday night around 8, it will still pretty busy. The service was good, the staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable. They do have a 17% gratuity for groups of 6 or more. I had the sweet shrimp which I actually enjoyed! They fried it the "right" way and provided the head of the shrimp as well. Delish! The other dish I got was the special tuna (tuna tasted extremely fresh) two pieces with a nice spicy sauce on top. The last dish I had was the Happy Roll, it was tuna and eel on top. Visited this spot after a customer's suggestion. After reviewing on Yelp, it's not one of the regular sushi spots I'd go to. Limited on fish choices and it raises concerns on the quality of the fish. Ordered a quick salmon lunch special (only $10.95 so it was a bargain) --- came with nigiri, seared sushi, and a salmon skin salad. I'd rate the quality of the fish about 3.5/5 but Sushi Planet dresses it up with great flavor complements. I ordered a yellowtail nigiri and it was ok, they use a lot of green onion (which I usually like on dishes, but sparingly on my fish). I have to commend the Venus which was japanese scallops with a garlic mushroom topping --- off the chain booming with garlic flavor that worked well in the dish. Overall a solid experience and would def go with a big group or a quick lunch. read more
