Came with 9 pieces total and was good but not like a I'd love it again kinda vibe 2. Calvine: 1 it was a simpler roll but still really yummy - it had a lemon slice in it and it was so refreshing! But again not a LOVE IT; it was just good Also, I ordered a Dr. pepper and felt that it wasn't really carbonated but it could've just been me. Maybe my expectations are too high. I'm from the bay and my experiences with Omakase in the bay has been great. Good prices and big fresh pieces of nigiri is what I'm use to. Now at Sushi Q, I ordered the 9 piece nigiri chef choice and a torch roll. The 9 piece chef choice is a big let down. Not only are the pieces not very fresh, they didn't even give me real Wasabi for my nigiri, instead huge slabs of horse radish. Came here on a Thursday night with about eight friends. Since we arrived around 7:30 PM, the restaurant wasn't too busy, and our group was already seated when we got there. Our server, Maybel, was incredibly attentive and friendly--we were sad to learn it was her last day. We ordered a variety of dishes (honestly, I can't remember half their names), so I'll comment on the ones I do remember! We asked for the chef's special and mentioned that we typically enjoy salmon and lemon in our sushi, and he definitely had fun with it. Just a heads up: chef specials run about $25 per roll, but in my opinion, they're worth it. We also ordered the salmon truffle carpaccio, which was fantastic. The salmon was fresh and buttery, and the sauce complemented it perfectly. As for the special rolls, one came wrapped in soy paper with microgreens, salmon, lemon, and roe. My current sushi go-to spot. For many years, I never veered from Mikuni's (not including Kru), but after my friends asked to meet for Sushi Q, I haven't looked back. I have my go to dishes, the chicken katsu, or the Torch roll, but I like a variety of other menu items. Their food always tastes fresh, and I haven't had anything I didn't like. I will say the service is more on the slow side. Leisurely, if you will. It's not bad, but just keep that in mind when you dine in. Also, it tends to be on the pricey side, but I think that's just our current economy. Even though I feel like this, I keep coming back and dining in and ordering take out. So, it's not really an issue. And I know it's a hot personal take, but the serve Pepsi products and I LOVE it! I honestly wouldn't come with a group larger than six, maybe eight. They have a decent amount of table seating, but it's not a lot due to the space of the restaurant. They also have a bar area, which is great if you want to engage with the sushi chefs. My first time visiting Sushi Q for lunch, and the food was very good, and authentic. I had the Lunch Box (bento box) with chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura for my two choices. The chicken teriyaki was delicious, charged perfectly and the sauce was rich and the right thickness for the best flavor. The shrimp tempura was nice and crunchy and a good size. The salad was generous and very fresh, and a nice scoop of rice. The roll in the picture was shared from my friend's box and not a part of my order, but to try, and that was good too. It took quite awhile before we got our meals but that could be because we were one of the first to arrive when they opened at 11:30 and there were several tables waiting for their orders already. the interior of this restaurant is very nice; cozy with warm ambient lighting and lively music that is at an appropriate volume. we ordered quite a bit for our first time, we got the salmon truffle sashimi, the big papa, the bob marley, and the chicken teriyaki plate. the salmon truffle sashimi's plating was gorgeous, but it felt like the flavor was very heavy on the truffle. the salad they put on the plate is definitely required with each bite, it helps cut down the flavor of the sauce. the salmon itself was delicious, fresh, and buttery. the big papa was good, but it was on the sweeter side of a roll, it was filled with crab mix and the roll itself is sitting on a bed of crab mix, so it was a lot. the texture of the roll was nice, crunchy on the outside with the soft crab mix inside. the bob marley was subtle in flavor and clean, i wish i could taste the shrimp tempura more in the roll but the overall taste was good. the standout dish to me was definitely the chicken teriyaki plate. the salad it came with was delicious, just a spring mix with a sesame dressing but the dressing was addictive. the chicken itself had a deep smoky flavor, the char on it was amazing, it tasted like it was cooked on a charcoal grill. the service was also quite good, we got seated immediately and the waiters were very attentive and kind. overall i would come back but maybe for a special occasion as it's quite pricy. read more

Our friends wanted us to try this location. We asked them for their opinion such they dined there already. But they didn't want to influence this Yelpers opinion. So here we go. First Impressions: We were greeted with stares from the Sushi chefs..No hello, no welcome, just some serious stares. Given the fact the entire dining room only had one table of patrons. I don't think they were too pre occupied to welcome us...but no...just some death stares. The ambience is modern m, not what you would find in a traditional Japanese restaurant and they play hip hop music in the background. I asked our wait staff her recommendation for either grilled saba or their unagi donburi. She recommended the grilled saba. We ordered: 1) grilled saba 2) plate of chicken katsu 3) plate of chicken teriyaki w/sauce on the side. All entrees arrived with a spring mix salad with a light sweet dressing and bowls of miso soup that contained mushrooms and tofu. Both were nice. 1) grilled saba: the saba arrived grilled and a little dry. Generally Saba is an oily fish (mackerel) so it shouldn't have been so dry...hmmm and the amount of saba also seemed frugal for $24. But if it had arrived not so dry, i would have forgiven the meager size of saba on my plate 2) Katsu chicken $22: there was an abundant amount of chicken. But this item was also over cooked. the chef should have noticed the dryness of the chicken and not served this dish- you can see the stringy layers of overcooked chicken. This item had to be re-fired. The replacement came with moist chicken. 3) Chicken teriyaki $20: this item arrived late. The wait staff apologized and advised us it would be late. I didn't ask why. but when the dish finally arrived, it was moist and flavorful. The chicken seemed pretty marinated. Those with allergies to soy, beware. Observation. We were the second table at this restaurant. Other patrons arrived 10 minutes after we arrived and their rolls of sushi arrived before our entrees. We didn't order any sushi, the sushi rolls passing by our booth did look appealing. perhaps only order sushi from this japanese restaurant and forego the other items. would we return.....probably not. two dry entrees, receiving our food later than other patrons, and experiencing non welcoming greetings....Why again? read more

We went for lunch and arrived around 1145 when it wasn't busy at all. The table was little dirty. After we ordered the food, it took a good 40 mins for both items to come. In between I asked the waitress, she said the sesame chicken took longer to make bah bah bah, then the second time, she admitted that they forgot the order. People came later already got their foods but she didn't even bother to check. There were three waitresses but two of them spent more time chatting with each other than helping the customers. Other than the one time one of them brought over the wrong order, zero service from them. I've heard so many great things about SushiQ. I've been to their other location and it was ok. My experience at this location was the same. Both times I've been here, it's been for an early dinner. The restaurant was not very busy. We were seated right away and our order taken quickly. However, our appetizers took a while to arrive and our rolls took even longer. We got the Big Poppa, Bob Marley, Monterey Trail and Kings Roll. The Big Poppa and Monterey Trail were both deep fried rolls, which may account for why it took so long. The Big Poppa is a large and unwieldy roll. It's hard to eat and had too much going on to be truly enjoyable. The Bob Marley was nice and refreshing with the salmon and lemon slices. The other rolls were not very noteworthy. There was nothing remarkable about the service. Pricing was average for sushi rolls ($15-$20) The restaurant is small, but cute with a sushi bar and a small dining area. Parking was not an issue.
